Yeah, I hope it's okay if I do one of these?
Feel free to ask me anything.
-
Glad to see you've decided to join the club! :smile
Which of your two main fandoms (The Land Before Time and The Lion King) did you get into first?
-
If only said club had a badge of membership.:p
Actually would you believe I got into both on the same day? We had to move from a small place down south (Kettering in England) to up near Liverpool because Mum wanted to be closer to my grandparents whilst she was going to have my sister. However, things er didn't go to plan and I had to live with my grandparents for a while. My Dad used to contract and would occasionlly come up to see me. Sometimes he would bring videos and on one of his visits he brought both The Land Before Time and Lion King with him.
Poor man...he didn't expect that they'd be a bit of an obession for me over the years.:D
-
Wow! :wow Well...do you remember which of the two videos you watched first? :p
As another question, how long ago was that?
-
I was four. My sister is coming up to sixteen now. So it's that long ago.:p
(joke)Your question is evil to make me use my brain(/joke):p
Seriously, I can't really remember. As they were played within an hour after each other, it was pretty close. I think it was Land Before Time first though since I was more into dinosaurs back then.
-
Very nice.
Do you collect items from either fandom?
-
I will admit that I haven't got a lot (anymore) with merchandise from the Land Before Time, with the exception of videos and DVDs. I used to have a small but modest amount. I had two plushies of Littlefoot and Cera and my Mum went everywhere to get some figurines that were on offer in Burger King at the time the second sequel came out.
Now (as you'll probably be aware) I have a lot of merchandise from The Lion King but that's perhaps because it's easier to get at that time.
-
Do you have any other fandoms besides those two biggies?
-
How are you doing? And how are you liking My Lion King? :)
-
I wouldn't call them fanbases because I'm not obsessed as I am with the Lion King but I like the Simpsons, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.
-
Doing okay for now..I was (guilty of not) supposed to be doing my room but I've gotten distracted.:p
My Lion king is interesting in the extent that there is something always going on. It reminds me of The Lion King Fan Art Archive, which something happens there nearly every day.;)
It's nice to see people I'm familiar with on there too even though I don't talk to them, I know them from TLKFAA.
-
Of all the countries you've lived in/traveled to, which was the best one in your opinion :)?
-
Oh that's hard.
Each country has brought quite a lot to the person that I am today.
I can't choose which country was the best in where I lived. I miss quite a lot of things in New Zeland. Yet if I moved from Switzerland now, I'd miss a lot of things here.
Best place I have visited so far is Rome. And, I think the answer is a bit obvious as to why.;)
It would probably sound odd but I actually felt quite at home among the ruins.
-
Where are you from originally, if I may ask? :)
-
Liverpool, merseyside, England....
No I don't have a scouse accent.
-
is there any place you would like to visit? the USA perhaps?
-
Greece,
Ireland,
Scotland,
Australia,
South Island,
Egypt..
I"ve aleady been to America when I was a child..
-
What are your favorite desserts and sweets? :)
-
Do you like eggs?
-
This might be an odd question, but do you believe in the term "guilty pleasure" as in having "LBT as a guilty pleasure" due to certain circumstances of what seems to be socially acceptable in society, or do you kick out the labels and just like what you like even if other people would call them guilty pleasures?
-
Sorry, I forgot about this...
Pangaea:Turkish delight but it's rather expensive to get here. I also like white ''chocolate''...
Rat_lady:Not really.
As to guilty pleasures...I am unsure as to what you mean but I wouldn't specify the LBT as a guilty pleasure, it is more a long the ''lines'' that it is something that I like. It hasn't caused as much problems for me in the past as the Lion King had done (in school) and it's not as obvious as liking the Lion King. As to socially acceptable...I do feel that sometimes society puts too much emphasis on that...people shouldn't feel that they have to conform to all society demands to ''fit in''...
Did I understand what you refered? Sorry if I didn't. :)
-
Whoops! It seems I'm not online enough to notice this response! :oops Sorry about that.
Well guilty pleasures are pleasures people have but often well a bit guilty liking them or uncomfortable about them if someone else knows about it.
What I am trying to ask is do you think LBT is a guilty pleasure since it's looked upon as a "childish" fandom by the rest of society, or do you not feel guilty about it and just like it for what it is?
-
There's already been a couple of questions similar to this, but I don't think this exact one has been asked on this thread yet:
What countries and notable places have you been to?
(Don't forget to answer Rat_lady's restated question, too! ;))
-
Sorry, for the delay.....I have not really had much chance to be on the computer....
Ratlady: I used to feel rather self concious about liking the Land before time when I was younger, as I often used to get a lot of ridicule for liking something that was dubbed a ''kids'' film....not as much as what I got for liking the lion king. So I suppose it is rather a guilty pleasure, I definetly didn't stop liking it because of the ridicule it caused...still haven't.
Pangaea: I will try to do this in order: England (obviously since I am english!), Majorca (first time I ever took a aeroplane was when I was about seven, not the last), France (Disneyland Paris!), Belguim (we past thorugh it, I suppose that doesn't count?), Holland (Went to the centre parks there), America (Disneyland Florida), Austria, Germany, Luxembourg (I have family there), Switzerland (first time, I moved there I was about thirteen), France (Paris again but we went with the school, best week ever), Spain (Tennis camp the first time, second time was Alicante were they were hosting a motorbike tournament, dad is obsessed with motorbikes), Singapore, New Zealand (Lived there between the ages of fifteen to seventeen), Hong Kong, second round of Switzerland and finally Italy (Rome).
I have been quite fortunate in the countries I have visited. Each country has provided some sort of cultural indepth understanding that I do not think I would have had if we had stayed in England. Despite all the travelling that I have done, I still do not like flying....I hate take offs and landing...;)
Hope that answers your question, and thank you for asking them...it's appreciated.:)
-
You’re welcome. :) And your answer was more than sufficient. It was even more comprehensive than I had expected. :DD I wish I were more well-traveled . . .
I wanted to ask another question as long as I was responding to you, and this one just popped into my head: How old is Mozart?
-
He is four. :)
-
Hey Saft, how are you doing? :)
-
Oh, okay I suppose. Things at home have been a bit difficult but it's something that we are all going to have to adapt to..not just me...er...other than that though, happy to be home..not so happy that I have had a bit of bad hayfever. Thanks for asking. :)
-
I'm not sure if I've asked this question before, but what is the best country you've been to in your opinion :)?
-
Hey thanks for the question.:)
Erm, I'm going to be diplomatic in my answer when I say that all the countries have their own merits. I did like Italy (Rome) as it's rich in historical heritage and as I'm interested in that sort of ancient civilization it was great to go and visit.
-
Can you tell me more about Mozart’s sock-stealing habit? :lol Does he take them straight from the laundry, out of the dresser, or right off your feet? :p And what does he do with them afterwards? Does he stash them somewhere, or just play with them?
-
Lol, sure.:)
Well, it isn't just socks that he takes but it is mostly them. He take them from the laundry, out of the dresser and if any are on the floor. Then he will lick, back scratch them and then take them to his little ''den'' that is under my bed. He normally sheds on them as well...it's horrible...because then those clean socks have to be re-washed.
-
Oh dear. :rolleyes :lol Is this something that he does at any given opportunity, or just every now and then? And do you have any methods of preventing him from taking the socks?
-
Usually given opportunity...he's an opportunist but sometimes he begs to go into the drawers, and he's rather persuasive (as you would probably know with Sasquatch).
Methods, aren't exactly working at the moment. He just finds ways to get around them. But then again, I think we are over-indulging him with it.
-
Is there a part of history you are most fascinated in?
-
Ancient civilizations. My main interest(s) in this area is the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks..shame that I can't take egyptology at university...
Thank you for the question. :)
-
Do you like lolcats? :)
-
Do you still go on MLK?
-
@Pangaea: What is lolcats?
@Rat_Lady: I haven't been on MLK for a while to be honest, not sure why either.
-
@Pangaea: What is lolcats?
Oh. I suppose that might answer my question. :oops
Lolcats (often pronounced “laul-cats”; I say “el-oh-el-cats”) are an Internet meme popularized by the site icanhascheezburger.com (http://icanhascheezburger.com). They are basically photos of cats with humorous captions, often written with deliberately (I hope) bad spelling and grammar. Here are some examples (starting with “Happy Cat”, the lolcat credited with starting the craze):

And here’s one that immediately made me think of your cat (it even looks like Mozart):
-
Lol, they are rather funny some of them whilst others have terrible spelling. Thank you.:)
-
Who are your favorite authors?
-
Tolkien, J.K.Rowling, Juliet Marillier, Garth Nix (I used to read his books when I was a kid), Bram Stoker, Homer, Aristophanes, Agatha Christie, Cricton, Dart-Thornton, Michelle Moran and many more...
Thank you for the question.:)
-
Inspired by a question (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=6185&view=findpost&p=9198434) I was asked:
How does Mozart react to thunderstorms?
-
Oh...sorry about the delay response.
Mozart is quite scared of thunderstorms. He doesn't like them and will hide under the bed till it's over. We have to comfort him quite a lot when they happen. Strangely he is okay with fireworks...
-
Aw, poor little guy.
Has Mozart ever caught anything? Rodents, shrews, birds, bats, etc.? (He's an indoor cat, right?)
-
He's indoor but he's caught a couple of insects and then tortured them before showing them to us.
-
Ooh…poor insects.
Apart from stealing socks, does Mozart have any other mischievous or quirky habits or ways of obstructing human activities? (Climbing window screens, walking on keyboards, sleeping on top of people, etc.)
-
^
Yeah, he's quite cruel with insects.
-Actually Mozart sat in a chair (as mentioned in the ''How are you feeling thread'') that mum and sister had gotten yesterday. He just sat in it...now it is his.
-Also he hisses and tries to swipe at the vaccum cleaner/hoover and puffs himself up to look bigger.
-He used to climb curtains when we lived in New Zealand, that the curtains would have light shining through little holes curtesy of Mozart.
-He's never actually slept on top of people but he likes his own space. I used to sleep on a sort of bunk bed (which I still have but I sleep on the bottom now)...and Mozart quite like sleeping up there too. I thought he liked it up there with me (perhaps at first) but not anymore...he's booted me out...and has been there ever since. I don't mind now. A cat needs his comfort.;)
-
How are you doing? :)
-
When I get around to starting that thread with the zoo photos I promised you, do you want me to start with the ones you specifically asked about (from the trip I took on my birthdayówhich, frankly, weren’t the most exciting zoo photos I’ve ever taken) or were you more interested in seeing pictures from the zoo in general? If that was the case, I would begin with the pictures from the oldest zoo trips I’ve photographed, and post them chronologically by date of visit. I’m planning on digging deep into my stash of photos to pick out the best ones anyway, so neither choice is any more of a hassle for me than the other. :)
-
I'm just asking this to some of the members here due to the fact this is going to be my major, but you don't have to answer this if you don't want to. :)
What's your opinion on religion as a whole? Or I guess to explain it a bit more, do you think religion is essential to human beings? Or is it something that you think doesn't necessarily needs to be around in life? It's just a security thing for human beings?
-
I'm embarrassed to say, that I forgot about this thread. Not on purpose but it's just not often questions are asked....and the thread is often pushed down by other more prolific threads.
So, I'm sorry about this lateness.
Pangaea: If it is okay with you the photographs that you took on your recent trip?
((I am unsure if I should respond to Amy's question, so I'll leave it for now))...
-
I'm embarrassed to say, that I forgot about this thread. Not on purpose but it's just not often questions are asked....and the thread is often pushed down by other more prolific threads.
Don't worry about it. :) You're not the only one who forgets about these threads.
Pangaea: If it is okay with you the photographs that you took on your recent trip?
Sure. :yes I'll get started on that.
Just out of curiosity, why are you so interested in the photos from that particular trip? (If it has anything to do with the photos being recent, would you like me to instead start with photos from my latest visit to that zoo?)
-
Animals would be the obvious answer.:)
If you have any lion photographs, they would be interesting to see.
It's been a while since I went to a zoo and we don't have a lot of animals in Bern zoo (well, the animal that I most like anyway), as it is too small.
-
There are a few lion pictures from that zoo trip I took on my birthday, but I'm afraid none of them are very good quality.
If it's lions you want, though, I could just start by posting several lion pictures, and then move on to posting photos of the other animals chronologically (by date of zoo visit). How does that sound?
-
seen any good movies lately?
-
..I can't really get to bed yet...I really should remedy it but I'm waiting for the inevitable fire alarm that goes off during this time period...hopefully there will be none...but, idiots beget idiots, who beget fire alarms.:p
As to Nick's question:
I saw Four Weddings and a funeral with two dorm-mates. As I hadn't seen it before, and mum told me to take the opportunity and see it with them, I thought there wouldn't be any harm. It was actually quite funny.
And I've been invited to be watching Labryinth sometime this week, although I *think* that is at the weekend....
I have actually watched a ''interesting'' film during Classics and Popular Culture...when I say interesting..I don't mean interesting as though entertaining to watch...it's more ''ow my eyes'' and ''must look anywhere but the big screen canvas''....we were focusing on Gore Vidal and a written screenplay that he had done for the infamous Caligula movie...the lecturer said it was the ''soft'' rating...all I can say is of it....that I'd hate to see what the ''hard'' rating is...*shudders*...I hope that doesn't come up in the examination..
-
What do you find most interesting where you live in Switzerland? I only visited Zurich when I was there. Awesome place, though.
-
^
Oh gee, this is a bit of a tough question and unfortuantely I don't think I'll be able to answer the question as well as I could but netherless, I generally do like Switzerland for it's moutians and lakes, to it's ''running like clockwork'' system and it's orderly methods. What I find the most interesting is it's history. I do find it interesting how each canton individually has a slighly different type of history that makes up Switzerland on a whole.
Although I do miss the Gl¸hwein right now...
-
I know that Switzerland is known for its chocolate. Is there any kind of candy that Switzerland lacks that you really enjoy? Maybe not necessarily candy that it completely does not have, but maybe hard to find as well?
-
No, not really. I don't eat sweets that much, so I am not missing anything through 'hard to find' types.
-
This one just popped into my head:
Well-traveled as you are, have you learned any additional languages besides English?
(For some reason, I have trouble remembering you're originally from England; I keep thinking you're Swiss. :wacko)
-
^
Oh I wish I was swiss, seriously but alas I have to wait ten years for that.
I have to learn German. i say that as if it is a bad thing, it generally isn't. It's just that I find it slightly harder than I do with french but there are some words I know, although not enough to have a full conversation as my sister can, but I'm getting there.
I also learnt french, although that is more able to read it than speak it.
I learnt some Maori in NZ school...but erm...I only know Kia Ora.
-
Wow. I took over four years of Spanish in grade school, and I could still barely make my own sentences. :rolleyes
I learnt some Maori in NZ school...but erm...I only know Kia Ora.
And what does that mean?
-
if you could do to any place in the world, where would you go, and why
-
Pangaea: It means like ''be well'' generally but it was taught to me as ''hi''.
Nick: No where were I haven't been, so I've been rather lucky on that front, although I would like to go to some historical sites in Egypt, Greece and Italy.
-
Are there any specific places in America you'd like to visit :)?
-
^
Don't really know how to answer this question to be honest. I know that if my family decided to make a trip over to Forida again, then I'd probably would want to go. But other than that, not really. I'm rather put off on flying by the heap amount of people that board the planes, it's just torture.
-
MERRYCHRISTMAS!!!
-
How are you doing, Saft? :)
-
Amy: Thank you for the Christmas wishes, I'm sorry that it is rather delayed. I hope you had a good Holiday.:)
Panagea: I'm tired to be honest. Go back to university on Friday and I have exams when I get back, the first and second week, so I've been busy revising for them. :)
-
Do you ever find yourself doing incredibly absentminded things? (I just posted a question asking how Mozart was doing, before I realized that, being away from home at college, you might not know yourself. :oops)
-
Yes, I do actually although not as frequently.
However, to answer your question in regards to Mozart, I do know that he's doing okay from what Mum has said. He had a bit of an accident in which he had too much food, that worried me, but he's alright.
Thanks.:)
-
have you seen any movies recently?
-
In January we (dad, sister and I) went to see Harry Potter again in the cinema.
Other than that, not really. Haven't had much time but hopefullly when mum and sister visit next week, we will be seeing some films like; King's speech, Black Swan, Tangled.
Yeah, sorry for the boring answer.
-
Just curious about your choice in the “If you were an animal what would you be? (http://gangoffive.net/index.php?showtopic=8889&view=findpost&p=9215350)” thread:
Why a platypus? :lol
-
In the wild, the platypus is a rare and reclusive animal that is hardly ever seen in the wild. So a bit like me..since I go to great lengths to avoid.:p
Besides the males have those cool poisonous spikes.:D
-
Ohhh…I just realized now that the thread’s question was “what animal you are most similar to?”, not “what animal would you like to be?”. Whoops. :oops
Incidentally, the platypus is an animal I've been rather interested in lately. In addition to the venomous spurs (I'm really curious as to how those things evolved), their nesting burrows can be over 50 feet (15 meters) long; they eat 15 to 30 percent of their body weight in a day; the bill is packed with sensors that detect the electrical signals given off by their prey, making them (along with echidnas) the only mammals to hunt by electroreception; and while it's not known whether or not they actually dream, they spend more time in REM sleep (the stage in which dreaming occurs) than any other mammal. I'm considering making one a character in my books. :smile
Uhhh…just making conversation there; I don't really have another question at the moment. :oops
-
If you could be any character, either from movies, books, cartoons, anime anything really. Who would you be? And why that character? :)
-
^
I did a platypus once..if I dig up my art thread buried in the Art's section, I'll post it there.:p
I've actually thought about your question Czacza. Not entirely sure how to best answer it but I'd be Mogget from the Abhorsen Trilogy.:D
Why? Mogget while holds the appearance of a cat, he's not what he seems to be. Which goes to show that things are never as they seem with something or someone, that there is always will be something deeper. Anyway, despite his sarcastic personality and his initial intent to er destroy people (which makes me sound violent :p) in the end he goes against his initial belief that everything should be destroyed to become part of the group that 'saves the world' from the 'Destroyer'..he does it for life...but I think he does it also because he realizes that not all people are as bad as he presumed them to be. This is something that i hope that i can learn from...that I shouldn't take things so negatively. I am learning to do this. So I think that despite him being male, a 'cat like figure' and fictional, I really hope that I can reach a similar conclusion that Mogget did about aspects.
-
I’d like to “borrow your ears for a bit,” as they say. Some things I do wonder about.
1. What is the story behind your cat’s name? Is a member of your family fond of the musician, perhaps?
2. Have you stopped drawing for a while? I really enjoy your deviant art work as I’ve mentioned in a few reviews there, so I’m curious if you intend to pick your “paintbrush” up any time soon.
3. You love ancient history, but I wonder what kind you would actually enjoy experiencing. If you were stuck in the past and could live with any ancient civilization, which would you pick and why?
4. You’ve mentioned a lot of people bothering you at college, which is awful, though I wonder, is there a group of students you have to hang out with before, between, and after classes as well? I don’t want you feeling alone. My father says that sometimes, online relationships alone aren’t enough to curb people’s feelings of loneliness, and I just want to know if you’re well off when it comes to offline friends.
5. Did you ever beat that Batman game you mentioned months ago?
Lastly, 6. Has your sleep issues been resolved? Are you getting enough rest now? All those problems you’ve mentioned really has me concerned. Back when I had a problem getting good rest, my whole outlook on life got a little gloomier, and you don’t need anything else making you feel unhappy.
Yes, like you, I do have spurts of questions myself, hee hee :p.
P.S. I hope none of these were asked before. I will be terribly embarrassed if they have, and my WoW playing has my eye begging me not to read every other post here.
-
Have you seen the update (http://gangoffive.net/index.php?showtopic=5347&view=findpost&p=9233298) I made to your star day thread? :angel
-
Pangaea: And I have, see my response on the thread. But thank you, very much I really do appreciate it and no worries about the lateness it is the thought that counts, plus also the effort that was involved.:)
Michael:
My ears? I don't know...they are quite attached....
1.
Well the origin of Mozart's name isn't something entirely special. You see, Amy at that time was learning to play the piano and had music pieces from W.Amadeus.Mozart. When we got Mozart, his name for the first three days was actually Sternern meaning ''star'' or something similar. That was mum's idea. However, we felt that it didn't suit him. So we had a vote. During that time, the little kitten's favourite refuge was under and on the piano itself. When we had the vote at the dining table, he had decided to walk across the piano to rip up the music pieces from Mozart. It was Mum's idea again to call him that. So we agreed. It's supposed to be cute......
Again, nothing entirely special.
2.
Yeah. I have. I haven't really had time nor the inclination to draw.
3.
Probably either the ancient egyptians (after all, women at least had some rights) within the 17th or 18th dynasty; technically the golden age of Egypt. Or with the Romans but probably during the Imperial period, not the Republic. I think why is quite self-explanatory.
4.
Actually not entirely. There are a few people that I know. One from my hall who was in the E(arly) I(nduction) P(rogram) and then there are three others from the group. They are pretty nice really. But I am not yet fully friends with them. Hopefully that will happen.
5.
Yeah, I did. For Christmas I got the Lego Harry Potter game. Nearly got enough golden bricks to unlock Voldemort.
6.
Er, it kinda has.
