hey all who read this, has anyone ever gotten a game with a key but 1 month later...it somehow get's lost? well, that's what's happened to me and lot's of other people...why can't we just go back to the store we purchased the game from and ask for another key??? because we can't...the store would more thank likely say we're lying and that we're trying to get a key for a burnt copy of the game...
I have halo 1 pc at home.....but my little brother lost the key 2 years ago <_< if anyone has a spare key....could they please tell me. i can prove that i own halo 1 if you don't believe me...

Last time I checked, sharing such info was against the law or something. Unless you paid someone for another copy or something.
-
Unfortunately I don't think there's anything you can do. Each product is assigned its own product key and there is no spare key. If someone gives you a product key, they are giving up their product for you. No two products can share the same product key. If I were to give you mine, it wouldn't work.
All you can do is either try to find the product key (look for the case; on my Halo copy the product key is on the casing) or find a crack of the program and a keygen. And I don't recommend the second suggestion.
-
There's nothing wrong with pirating the program if you've already paid for it and you just lost the key. But be careful where you download that stuff from. There are tons of viruses in pirated software...especially in games. But I'm not going to tell you how to pirate stuff safely, as it has a potential for abuse so don't even ask. If you want to pirate it, do the research on your own and take the risks if you think it's worth it.

i use a keygen for it at the moment. except i'm going crazy because halo reach is coming out and those that have a legit product key get "visual flare"...i hate little brothers....oh so much
-
What exactly do you mean by "Visual flare?" Do you mean graphically?
-
bungie did not say....
-
so...for anyone that never plays halo 1 multiplayer...would they be kind enough to lend me their key? if not we can exchange keys for other games.
I can give:
star wars republic commando
star wars battlefront 1
star wars battlefront 2
warhammer 40 000 dawn of war
sacred: underworld expansion pack

Good for you. It's always best to use legit software. The ONLY software I pirate is Photoshop, and that's because I think it's ridiculous to have to buy a copy for EVERY SINGLE COMPUTER you want to put it on. I bought CS4 once. I'm not buying it again to put it on my office master, laptop, and server. :p Everything else I use is 100% legit.
-
so, does anyone have a spare key i can use that's legit???
i don't need it to play halo 1, i just need it for halo reach. halo 1 will not be affected.

The problem with PC game keys is (as DarkHououmon already stated) that there is only every one key per copy of a game (nowadays). By registering someone else's key, their key then becomes invalid and won't work again. There are keygens out there that can be used or failing that, you can always contact Bungie directly and tell them you've lost your key and they could give you a new one (for a fee no doubt). Similarly, like LBTLover said, because you've already forked out for the game, running it in emulation or downloaded (or pirated if you like) isn't technically illegal.
Shops are very arsey when it comes to returning PC games and for good cause really. They have no evidence to disprove that you haven't copied the game, cracked it or installed the game and asking for a full refund whilst still being able to access the game. Potentially lying to them to get the game for free. Once a PC game is sold and the key goes with it, the key (from a retail point of view) is useless. If you give the game back having used the key, (again a factor they cannot disprove on the spot) that's a product they can no longer sell.
Your best bet metadude is to get in touch with Bungie. There must be an online help page or a way to retrieve lost keys. It will probably cost you but it'll be a darn sight safer than messing around with dodgy keygens with the risk of landing a virus. It's all up to you at the end of the day mate. This is just my 2p's worth

i don't need the key to play halo 1, i just need a key to get the special thing in reach.
anyone that isn't getting reach but does have a halo 1 key. it would not affect them in any way at all.
