Hunch the young owl was shivering nervously. He had almost got his chance for payback for all the times his uncle had insulted him after he shrunk thanks to Chanticleer's powers returning, but now the owls were back in their lair and the Grand Duke had returned to his regular, large, and formal size.
"Sorry for trying to swat you Uncle Duky..." Hunch apologized weakly. "i'll do anything you want, I'll help you find a way to keep the sun down..."
-
you should be sorry you rebellious twit! the grand Duke sneered not being in the mood to be forgiving.. it will need to be a stronger spell, once that can resist the roosters crow..
-
"i'll look through your spellbooks for you Uncle Duky," Hunch offered quickly, trying his best to be extra helpful.
-
Make yourself useful, and stay out of mt way' the gRand duke replied coldly.. it will not be easy doing this spell, as my powers are not yet fully restored..
chanticleer sat on a post watching the sun rise on a new morning at the barnyard. it had been a month since he had defeated the Grabd Dukes attempt to enslave the farm animals and rule the world...
-
Snipes was lying on an inner tube, sipping a soft drink.
"Nice to be able to enjoy the sun's rays again," the magpie sighed happily.
-
"Doing just that Uncle Duky!" Hunch panicked as he flew away to another part of the lair.
Until he grabbed a pair of sunglasses, it was too bright to go out.
-
Goldie came out and sat down beside Chanticleer. "Beautiful sight, and each one different to every other." She said quietly.
-
The Duke muttered as he started focusing on his spell..
_
yes it is beautiful, things sure have been quiet and peaceful around here after that trouble with the Duke.. I hope we've seen the last of him..
-
"So do I." Goldie said, putting a hand on Chanticleer, "Though we should be ready in case he tries something else or those owls of his." She said with some concern on her face.
-
"There's no way he'll be back," Snipes said confidently. "They probably flew hundreds of miles away after you brought the sun back."
~~~~~~~~~~~
"I think I better leave Uncle Duky alone for now," Hunch said, wearing a pair of sunglasses. He decided to go find something small, like mice, for his uncle to eat. "Frustration."
-
"I certainly hope so." Goldie said, hoping the owls were long gone, but not entirely sure if they were.
-
Hunch looked through his shades to avoid being harmed by the light.
"Hmm...frustration," he grumbled.
-
"We should be ready just in case he, or one of the other owls, tries something." Goldie said.
-
"Yeah, I don't want to get eaten Hawaiian style," Stuey the pig gulped, remembering how he was almost devoured by the Duke.
-
We'd best keep an eye out just in case Chanticleer replied picking at his feathers.
-
"Best to keep an eye out, just in case. But no need to live in fear, just in case they are gone for good." Goldie said to the others as she sat down.
-
"Yeah, we finally can relax," Snipes said.
-
In front of the barn, Patou was still practicing tying his shoes. Most of the time the results were uneven and loose, so he's fine-tuning himself to get better...
-
Goldie nodded and sighed a bit, "Relax, yes, but remain at least a bit alert also." She said, hoping the owls were gone indeed.
-
"Eh, they can't pull the same trick twice," Snipes said confidently.
-
"I certainly hope not." Goldie said, sounding and feeling not so sure herself as she shook her head slightly.
-
The duke continued working on the spell. for now whe would focus on removing Chanticleer from the picture..
-
"hnn...there has to be snack food somewhere," Hunch said, examining the landscape through his sunglasses.
-
Chanticleer flew off towards the barn, heading towards the top of of the roof..
-
In the distance of the farmland, a distinct tune can be heard. The tune belonged to a visiting bird, a small brown sparrow. His song was a lively, jazzy style song. His body bobs to the music as he reached sight of the barn...
-
"Huh?" Snipes pondered, hearing the unfamiliar music. "Who's doing that?" Outside of Chanticleer and Goldie, the barn wasn't musically talented.
~~~~~~~~~~
Hunch, failing to find anything to eat, decided to head back to the owls' lair. However, he might run into another creature of the night.
-
"Maybe it's a radio someone has on." Goldie said as she looked in the direction of the sound, knowing some folks liked to listen to music on the radio.
-
Patou's ears raised partially up as he too heard the new sound. "Well that's a tune not heard 'round here before..." He looked up to the sky as a tiny speck in the blue slowly made itself seen.
The sparrow continued his song as he soon reached what he sees like a weather main of a rooster on the edge of the barn...
----------
A large shadow suddenly appears to envelope Hunch's own shadow, a large predator moving in from above...
-
"What they?!" Hunch gasped. He quickly flew back right at the last second. "Attempted assassination!" he blurted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Wow...." Snipes said amazed, "This guy's pretty good."
-
"Yes, very skilled indeed. I wonder if it's natural talent or from training, or a bit of both." She said.
-
When he truly found himself on the farm, his tune changed from jazz to a country-style song. He dipped low to make a landing in front of the house...
----------
The shape quickly turned to keep on Hunch, his talons at the ready to snag him...
-
"Aaahhhh!!!" Hunch screamed, "Uncle Duky, somebody, help me!!!!" he flapped his wings as hard as he could back towards the owl's lair.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Whoa..." Snipes said, impressed by the sparrow;s voice.
-
"And multi talented also. Able to do more then one style and type of song." Goldie said, a bit surprised.
-
When the sparrow landed on the ground, he ended his song on a pleasant note. He looked around at everybody he could see, starting with those in front of the house. He gave a happy salute and whistled a greeting.
----------
The shadow quickly moves in and cuts him off from the Duke's lair, a claw reaches out to grab Hunch...
-
Hunch quickly stopped himself and flapped back, just barely avoiding the claw.
"Do you know who my uncle is?!" The young owl demanded, "He's the Grand Duke! He'll eat you alive for this!"
~~~~~~~~~~~
Several of the farm animals, the mice, the chickens, Snipes, and Peepers (To name a few) began applauding the sparrow's performance.
-
Goldie joins in applauding. "Very well done and we're all happy to meet you." She said.
-
The sparrow blushed and scratched the dirt with his foot shyly...
----------
This time, the small owl could see his attacker clearly. A massive vulture of black feathers and a white collar, only his head was balding. His deep red eyes pierced deep at the prey. "Since when did the Grand Duke had pip-squeak snack for a nephew?" he said in a dark, mocking tone...
-
Hunch frowned in both fear and anger. He really hoped his uncle or at least one of the servants heard his calls. The vulture's appearance was quite intimidating.
"I'm not a pipsqueak..." Hunch grumbled. Through his sunglasses' lens, he eyed a small hole that he could fit in, though the vulture wouldn't be fit through. He contemplated whether or not to risk trying it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Who are you?" Snipes asked the sparrow, "You're pretty good."
-
You're pretty goos Chanticleer said to the sparrow. Whats your name?
-
The sparrow began to speak...but only in whistles...
----------
The vulture gave a low evil chuckle. "You think I can't see through those spectacles of yours, do you? I can see straight to the pit of your fear! Go ahead and try..."
-
Hunch thought of one idea, he hoped it would work. Since vultures, as he could recall, also weren't fond of the sun, he hoped an idea would work.
The young owl slowly lowered his wing into his bag and lifted out a small mirror he was holding onto. "Back in a flash!" the young owl said nervously, using the mirror to reflect a beam of sunlight right into the vulture's eyes.
-
"Can you only talk in whistles?" Goldie said. "Maybe some of us can suggest a name we can call you and you can nod or whistle if you like a specific name." She said to the new comer. "Unless you want to, or can, write out a name."
-
"I'd recommend writing to," Snipes agreed with Goldie.
-
The sparrow's lower beak dropped in astonishment. His fellow birds of a feather couldn't understand him? He slapped his forehead, but it got him an idea... (action was like this :slap )
He immediately began to writing in the sand with his feet, in good style too. It spelled: Whistler.
----------
The vulture was temporarility blinded by the sudden flash of light, and he tries to blink the distortion out of his eyes. This would give Hunch time to run...
-
Hunch, in a heartbeat, zipped right down to the small hole in the Owls' lair flapping his wings as fast as he could. Even after he managed to make it inside, he didn't stop flying in fear.
"Uncle Duky! Anybody!" he called, so afraid he unintentionally charged through 2 of the servant owls. "Sorry!"
~~~~~~~~~~
"Well, hello there Whistler," Snipes said politely.
-
"Nice to meet you Whistler. Are you just passing through or do you plan on staying here for a while?" She asked curious how long he was going to be staying.
-
The vulture regained his sight quickly, and gave an evil grin as he flew away. "Go to your uncle, brat," he said under his breath. "I've been meaning to pay him back for a LONG time..."
----------
Whistler would've had a lot to say, but it would be for not he gave out his breath trying to say anything that no one would understand. So he thought of one definitive word and scratched it in the earth: City.
-
Hunch of course couldn't hear the vulture's cryptic silent message, he was catching his breath.
~~~~~~~~
"The city?" Snipes asked, "What about it? Do you want to go there?"
-
"Or is that where you're from?" Goldie said, then thought for a moment. "if it is what Snipes here said you can look at him and nod or if it's what I said do that with me. Unless it's something else." She said, thinking of a way the bird would not have to write out everything.
-
Whistler pointed at Snipes with his wing and nodded.
-
"But what do you want to do there?" Snipes asked.
~~~~~~~~
Uncle Duky....guys.." Hunch panted to any of the other owls, "Some vulture just tried to eat me!"
-
"Maybe see the lights, eat at a fancy restaurant, or listen to the music there." Goldie says, naming a number of possibilities.
-
Whistler responded by holding his feathers up like he was holding a flute, and made a quick succession of notes in a musical tone.
-
"You want to play some music in the city?" Goldie asked Whistler.
-
Eat you? for evil's sakes Hunch, you don';t pester vultures, they don't mind what they eat, and they're not picking about eating small owls' The Duke frowned..
-
"Well this one tried!" Hunch panted.
-
Probablty because you ticked it off somehow, you have a talent for that" Duke frowned
_ So you want to go to the city huh? Chanticleer looked at Whistler.
-
Whistler nodded to all the answers excitedly.
Patou scratched his chin before replying. "You sure you really want to go to the city, kid?"
Whistler nodded again and whistled.
-
"I didn't do anything to it Uncle Duky," Hunch retorted, "It came at me for no reason."
~~~~~~~~~~
"Anybody else wanna come along?" Snipes asked the farm animals. Some of the rabbits and Stuey the pig showed interest.
-
- the duke then turned to hutch ' best be careful when you're out for awhile.. that vulture probably saw you as dinner..
-
"I will Uncle Duky," Hunch nodded, "So how are we gonna eat those barn animals when we catch em?"
-
You cook them of course. One must refined when eating" the duke replied with a smile " Pick out the ones you want, Then I'll have the sevants go and grab them..
-
"But you're the chef uncle Duky," Hunch said, "And I'm not good at making rabbit pies."
-
yes you definitely lack culinary skill, but i guess that can't be helped " besides once i'm done with my plan, you'll be getting a lot of practice in making pies" The Duke grinned..
-
"Really?!" Hunch smiled excitedly, "You mean I'll be able to help out around here?!"
-
yes, you could say that.. now i need 5 roots in the lower parts of the caves for my next spell, go and get them for me, and please don't dally...'
- what do you want to find in the city/ Chanticleer asked, looking at whistler.
-
"Coming right up uncle Duky," Hunch nodded, "But what's the spell?"
-
You'll see soon enough, now get moving before i lose my patience" replied the elder owl. " Your parents sent you to me and I can see clearly why! you must have driven them close to madness..."
-
Hunch flew to the caves' lower sections and found the 5 roots the Duke requested.
-
"So who's going to the city? I'd like to go. I've been there a lot before so may know some of it better then some other folks." She said.
-
"Hold it, hold it," Patou replied. "You do remember the LAST time we were in the city?"
-
"I'm sure we don't have to go back to Pinky's studio," Snipes replied.
-
Goldie shook her head, "I'd rather not go back to Pinky's studio. Though some of his goons may be in the city and some of the owl's minions also. And other things have to be considered also. We can't just all run to the city. We should do at least a little planning, if any of do go that is." She said, pausing at times in her dialog briefly here and there to think out what she wanted to say.
-
I was a big star the last time I went to the city" Chanticleer grinned.. " and thats where I met you Goldie..
-
"So a vulture doesn;t ring any bells for you uncle Duky?" Hunch asked.
-
A little.. That was once a valture who vied with me fr mastery of this area.. can't recall his name though, its been so long..
-
"What happened uncle Duky?" Hunch asked, intrigued.
-
Goldie smiled, a bit shyly, "yes, and I'm glad it happened. Our meeting that is." She said, remembering their meeting and what happened afterwards.
-
Patou shook his head and rolled his eyes.
Whistler cocked an eyebrow in confusion...
-
"Is there a specific place in the city you want to go?" Snipes asked Whistler.
-
"Like a restaurant or some place playing music, or a movie theater, a play?" Goldie asked.
-
Whistler simply shrugged his shoulders, then did a quick sketch of the city bunched in a skyscraper, and then question marks around it...
-
"I guess we should just go there," Snipes shrugged. "Should we walk?" he asked everyone.
-
Walking sounds fine' Chsanticleer said..
( should we start the idea we mentioned in duscussion?)
-
(We should let rocky start it.)
"Got everything uncle Duky!" Hunch grinned, excitedly.
-
"Is it to far to walk to town?" Goldie asked looking at the others.
-
"Still trying to get rid of the sun ey Grand duke." Flogger, dressed in a western style Pancho and hat arrogantly said as he walked into where Hunch and the duke were, with the duke's owls cowering behind him, looking bruised with mild cuts, clearly from Flogger's foot blades. "Looks to me like you need some lackeys not afraid of a little light." He said sitting down, sitting his bladed legs up on the table. He then took out a flashlight and fumbled with it, ready to turn it on the duke and Hunch it his life were to be threatened. "I heard your last plan went to bust cause of a little white kitten." He chuckled.
-
yes, well to be technical Flogger it was due to a rooster crowing.. the kitten merely played a part in it. now, whats your angle in this, besides of course, paying me back for getting the better of you in our last encounter?' the Owl chuckled. "i don't care much for my nephew Flogger, but he is blood, and don't appreciate folks trying to eat him. but thats between me and Dark.
-
Hunch shivered nervously at the sight of the flashlight. This rooster had assisted them in their plan before, so maybe he could be convinced again.
-
"That's not what I heard, I heard that kitty was the reason they found Chanticleer in the city, who would've been dead if you weren't too cheap to pay me to kill him. If I were you, I'd make that little kitten suffer." Flogger said. "And as for eating that little runt, I'd sooner just feed him to that Vulture Dark." The Mercenary said as he got up and walked towards the duke. "As for my angle. I want to kill chanticleer, ever since I lost that fight, It's been nearly impossible to find work." Flogger said. "It'll cost triple my normal kill rate, plus I want it all in advance." He told the duke, And the dukes minions gasped at the rooster's statement.
-
what is your normal kill rate? The Duke replied looking closely at the rooster ' and after you kill him, what wll you do next? take that hen Goldie for your mate he chuckled slighltly
-
Hunch was surprised that his uncle had suggested that. "I'll..just go add the ingredients, Uncle Duky," he said.
~~~~~~~~~
"We probably should get going," Snipes suggested.
-
Whistler gave two 'thumbs' up.
"Alright," Patou replied. "At least I won't have as much trouble with these shoes of mine like last time."
-
"And no trouble with owls, too," Snipes nodded.
But the owls weren't the only Creatures of the Night they had to look out for.
-
Goldie nodded, "yes, you know how to tie your shoes. Untied shoes can be very dangerous." She said. "So how are we going, walking or another way?"
-
Hunch brought the ingredients to the area by the Duke's magical organ, where some spells were conjured.
-
soi you want to make the cat suffer, very well, if you want to kill the little pest I'll play you to do that as welll. The Duke shrugged " Now we just need to agree on price..
-
"Well," Patou started, "last time we left for the city, we came by trunk in a flood. Think we should wait for a rainy day?"
Whistler looked at the hound with a confused look. He has heard nothing about their ventures before...
-
"Not if the owls are the reason for the rain," Snipes replied with a little chuckle to brighten the mood.
-
"I'm sure we can come up with a more pleasant way to get to town and back." Goldie said.
-
(OOC: I'll be Peepers if no one else wants to take her.)
-
Flogger frowned at the duke. "no, I'm gonna kill all of Chanticleer' s friends, then the rooster himself. And YOU should take care of that kitten." Flogger said to the owl, this made the dukes minion's cower. None of them would ever speak to their master like that. "As for my price. It's normally one million dollars per hit, but I'm charging you three million per hit, all in advance." The rooster said to the Owl. "Unless you want me to go work for that Vulture, Dark."
-
Hunch had no idea if the Duke could afford that.
-
I'll pay 2 million per, but not a cent more" the Duke replied " and the kitten will be YOUR priority Flogger, after all, I'm paying you to get rid of him...
-
"Fine, but as I said Duke, YOU deal with the kitten, first you know where he is, second I'M ALLERGIC TO CAT HAIR!" He shouted at the duke. "Besides the word on the street is he was really a boy you turned into a kitty." Flogger said. " I heard he got turned back to a human when the sun came out and dried up all your rain water." He chuckled as he walked away. "So you want me to kill the target's now, or let them think they're safe before I kill them.
-
Best let them develpop a false sense of security first, and I'll deal with the cat > Hautch, send some of the servants out to deal with the kitten ' the Duke said turning to his nephew.,..
-
Hunch nodded, and flew over to the servants.
"Ok boys, some of you have to go find that kitten," he grinned sheepishly.
-
"The only thing we got 'round here is the tractor," Patou said. "And some of you can fly much faster than that ol' hunk of junk."
-
"I guess that means we'll walk then." Goldie said.
-
"Then let's get going," Peepers said, the mouse beginning to go towards the exit of the barnyard.
-
The Duke thenm turmned to his spell book and cast the same spell he had cast before which would turn Edmond Back into a kitten..
-
"I'm taking the skyway," Snipes smirked, flapping his wings.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hunch gathered some magical ingredients in a pot, as well as heating up the oven for a pie. His uncle was an expert chef as well.
-
I'm coming with you " chanticleer said looking at Snipes.. ' so don't get too far ahead..
-
"It may be better if we stay together. I wonder if all those who can't fly could be carried by those who can. That would save considerable time." Goldie said looking at those who could and could not fly and thinking if the flyers could carry the non flyers.
-
"Don't mind us," Patou replied. "We just might be able to hitch a ride to the city."
Whistler was eager to go, so he shot up into the sky above the group...
-
"You guys do that," Snipes called, watching Whistler zip upwards.
-
Chanticleer took fight, and soared after Whistler.. " See you guys in the city! He called out after them.
-
"Are you sure?" Goldie asked, not taking off quite yet.
-
"Hey, wait for us!" Peepers called, annoyed.
-
"Well, let's get going," Patou said as he started walking. "We wouldn't be wanting to keep them waiting too long for us."
-
Being ignored Goldie shrugged and took off herself, heading towards the city.
-
"You got that right!" Snipes called from the sky.
-
But little did the farm animals know was that the owls weren't the only danger this time around.
-
Dark could see the owl's mountain in the distance. The glint of pure anger in his evil eyes conceal dastardly plans for revenge. Dark clouds began to appear in the horizon, rivaling those surrounding the Duke's lair...
----------
As Patou passed the tractor, paused to ponder, and then unhooked anything connected to the tractor. "It may not be fast," he said, "but it's better than walking all the way."
-
"I'd the say the same about the sky," Snipes grinned.
"Is it me, or did it get darker..." Peepers commented, concerned.
~~~~~~~~~~~
"Uncle Duky, did you cast a darkness spell?" Hunch asked, looking out and seeing the new dark clouds form.
-
Goldie looked up as she flew along. "It does look to be getting darker. I wonder if a storm is comming." She said with some concern in her voice.
-
No, thats a Natural storm " The duke replied looking as the storm grew in intensirty as it approached
i think we should head back to the barn until the storm passes' chanticleer said.
-
"Well, another chance for us to get food Uncle Duky," Hunch said.
-
Whistler gave a disappointed whistle but flew back to the others.
"Well, no point leaving this out to rust," Patou said, and began to drive the tractor into the barn.
-
Goldie looked around before started to fly back towards the barn, keeping a lookout to be sure everyone else was also before she did.
-
"Hopefully those owls won't show up," Snipes commented.
Peepers nodded, though the owls weren't the only Creatures of the Night who had their appetites ready...
-
(OOC: Maybe we should have Dark go after the farm animals?)
-
"There anything I can get us?" Hunch asked, always eager to get on his uncle's good side.
-
(sounds like a plan imo)
some of those field mice in the field close to the farm' The Duke replied eager to get Hunch away for awhile..
the storm continued to grow in intensity as the farm animals barely reached the barn before it hit.
-
"Coming right up Uncle dukie," Hunch said eagerly, though remembering the vulture made him nervous.
-
"Let's all get inside. Once we're inside we can be sure everyone made it." Goldie said to any others near her, raising her voice if need be. She went over to the barn door to open it if it wasn't already open.
-
chanticleer held the window cover open so goldie and the others could get inside ' you alright Goldie?' he asked as she landed in the hay.
-
Goldie nodded, "How are you and the others?" She asked as she got up and looked around.
-
Patou drives the tractor into the barn and turns it off.
Whistler shot in through the window just as rain reached the farm...
-
A thought entered Snipes's head, one he didn't like.
"You don't think this is the owls again, do you guys?" he asked.
-
"Gosh I hope not." Goldie said from over near the barn door where she was attempting to close and secure it from the wind that may come up, once she was sure everyone was inside who was going to come in by the barn door.
-
Peepers and Snipes kept their eyes out for any hungry flying carnivores in the sky.
-
whats the plan? The servants asked the Duke " wait until the storm passes then make our move..came the reply..
-
Hunch returned to the owls' lair with a few small field mice in his talons.
"Caught some chow Uncle Duky!" he said cheerfully
-
pass them around! The servants cheered " we want mice!
-
"Ok, ok, give me a second," Hunch said, passing around the mice.
He made sure to save two for the Grand Duke
-
the duke offered his guest one of them, but he declined.. ' I don't like secondhand mice' the rooster said.
-
(OOC: Flogger is the rooster from the beginning of the movie, Kenjiro's OC is a vulture.)
"Did I do good uncle?" Hunch asked, hoping for approval.
-
Fixed it- thanks)
Well done Hutch" the duke said rare praise from him..
-
Goldie went around to make sure the main door and windows were properly secured from the storm and to see where there were leaks that, if any, that would need fixing when the weather got dryer, and what areas were dry and would make the best sleeping areas.
"At least we're inside." She said.
-
Hunch's face beamed cheekily, he was not used to his uncle having nice things to say about him.
-
Chanticleer made a small nest in the hay and settled in, it was going to be awhile before the storm let up...
-
"We're gonna need your singing again soon," Snipes told Chanticleer.
-
let me get warmed up a bit first.. that wuiill take a few minutes the rooster replied ' he was tired from flying and needed a short rest..
-
"Just be sure to do it before someone tries to eat us," Peepers advised.
-
That done Goldie did her best to be sure there was some light around, or at least in one central area.
"I'm sure thing will work out. Goldie said before she went over to sit down beside Chanticleer.
-
"We're not going to be owl chow, are we?" Stuey gulped
-
Chanticleer began to sing, first slowly, and more firmly as the sing progresses..
-
But something wasn't quite right this time...
-
The storm did not let up, but remained black and foreboding. A heavy flapping is heard as the vulture circled the farm. But this was not his goal. He turned and headed away from the farm, towards another well-known farm...
-
"What's that?" Stuey gulped, hearing the sounds of the flapping wings.
-
"Maybe just some leaves." Goldie said looking in the direction of the sound.
-
"thisss is bad, very, very unfortunate," Peepers shivered, her lisp still somewhat active.
-
Whistler could only see a faint shape disappearing to the storm clouds, but wouldn't be able to identify it...
The vulture loomed in the torrent, waiting for the Duke to make his appearance...
-
"Be careful if you head out tonight Uncle Dukie," Hunch advised, "I think that vulture's still around."
The young owl was certain his uncle would criticize him for advising to keep his guard out, since the Grand Duke could hold out his own in a fight.
-
i can handle anything that tries to mess with me The Duke said confidently, although there was , as expected an undertone of irritance at his nephew worryworting.
-
"But what if the vulture tries to kill you?" Hunch asked his uncle.
-
"Are we just going to stay crammed in here till the sun comes back up?" Snipes asked
-
Chanticleer sang loudly and the raoin began to slacken..
- I can handle a vulture the Duke sneered.
-
"It's likely safer, warmer and dryer then going for a stroll outside." Goldie said looking at the barn door that lead outside.
-
But the rain hadn't let up all the way, a fair amount kept pouring.
"Just be careful..." Hunch told his uncle.
-
"This wasn't what I was anticipating," Peepers commented
-
Chanticleer finished singing.. ' Well all we can really do is wait it out' he said, taking a deep breath..
-
Hunch watched his uncle, before going to get more ingredients.
-
Goldie sighs, I guess we can just wait till the rain is over. At least we are all together." She said thinking of a positive point to their situation.
-
The worst of the storm shifted away from the farm, but rain still poured. The blackest form instead moved with its dark master to another farm, where another family resided...
-
The Duke finally took wing and headed outside. where the rain had slacjened somewhat " it was dark out, even for a nocturnal creature like the Duke. He Flew in ciircle slowly gaining a higher altitude.. " Now to go on a little hunt" He said to himself with the chuckle and flew off towards the south.
-
On a small plateau of dry land, some field mice were trapped.
They looked up and noticed the shape of the Grand Duke of Owls
-
Unfortunately for the mice, The Duke also saw them, and his mouth began to water as he slowly swooped down towards the mice below..
-
The mice began to run away as fast as they could, but they had limited fleeing space.
"Oh no oh no..." they kept panicking.
-
Hunch stayed at the owls' lair, looking for spell recipes.
-
the Duke flew closer and closer , he culd see now that there were quite a few of them, enough to whet the edge of his hunger..
-
Some of the mice tried diving into holes.
-
Some of the mice made it.. others were not so lucky.. as the duke seized a few in his talons..
-
"You folks want to do anything while we wait in here?" Goldie asked looking around at those present.
-
"I think there's a pack of cards in here..." Snipes replied.
-
What are you guys going to play/ do you mind if I watch?" Chanticleer asked
_ the Duke soon began to munch on the mice he had captured.
-
"Any favorite card games some folks know?" Goldie asked looking at those present.
-
"You got anything we could use for poker?" Snipes asked Chanticleer.
~~~~~~~~~~
The mice screamed as the Duke devoured them whole.
-
The surviving mice cried as their friends and family were eaten
-
"What sorts of things would we need do you think?" Goldie asked as she looked around to see if she could see anything they could use.
-
Soon, the land around the Duke began to blacken, darker than normal...
-
"Anyone got coins?" Peepers asked "We could use some for bets..."
-
"I have some. We can use those, or see if there are some bottlecaps or something around we can use instead." Goldie said looking around to see if she could see anything.
-
"got nothing in my pockets," Peepers said, looking around the barn.
-
"Maybe theres some washers, nuts, bolts, or something like that around we can use." Goldie said, avoiding mentioned pointy stuff like nails since one could to easily get pocked accidently.
-
"so, what are you guys betting?" Snipes asked.
"Do you think this storm is natural, the owls, or someone else?"
-
Hunch kept flying around the lair, concerned about his uncle.
-
"Where is he..where is he...?" Hunch said, pacing back and forth.
-
The Duke suddenly decided to do somethjing he had now done in sevral years- journey to the human world ' he took a deep breath and let forth a blast of magic, which opened a small portal before him
the duke flew through it and began making the trek to the human world..
-
And the Duke had a destination in mind-a farm. A farm he had visited before.
Meanwhile, Scott and Mark, Edmond's brothers, were hogging the game console...
-
"Come on you guys, it's my turn." Edmond told his brothers.
-
"We said when we're done..." Mark replied, all 3 siblings unaware of the looming danger that had visited once before.
~~~~~~~~~
"I wonder whatever happened to Edmond..." Snipes said in the animated farm.
-
He went home I think' Chanticleer replied. " He wasn't from our world, anyway..
-
Edmond sat down on the couch. "It's not fair, you guys are hogging it." He huffed.
-
Scott could've sworn he saw a shadow fly over the house's window, but he ignored it.... it looked like it was just a bird anyways.
-
Edmond looked out the window at the same time. "It's the duke, run!" Edmon screamed as he ran up to his bedroom.
-
"The what?" the brothers asked dumb-founded, having never read the story themselves.
-
Edmond ran back down from his room, gripping his flash light in his hands and shined out the window. "He's gonna us, He's gonna us, He's gonna us, He's gonna us, He's gonna us, He's gonna us, He's gonna us!"Edmond shouted.
-
Edmond's brothers still had no idea what was getting their brother all flustered.
-
Edmond's mom and dad came in to see Edmond going on again. "Edmond, I told you the duke is not real, so stop waving that flashlight honey." She said, taking it away. "You never should of read him that book." His dad said.
Just then the power went out. "He's here, he' s here, he' s here, he' s here, he' s here, he' s here, he' s here, he' s here, he' s here, he' s here!" Edmond screamed frantically.
"Edmond calm down, the power just went out." His mom explained. " Scott. mark give me a hand." Their dad said as he took the flashlight from his wife.
"We need that to keep the duke away." Edmond said, frustrated that they didn't believe him. His mom sighed. "Edmond, that story wasn't real, there is no grand duke of owls." She said, her stare indicated to Edmond to drop it.
-
"He's lost it," Scott chuckled, following their dad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, the card game had begun.
-
"At least it'll pass the fun, and who knows, this may become a regular or semi regular thing to do." Goldie said as the card game began.
-
"Let's hope it'll pass..." Peepers said.
-
The Duke landed on a tree just outside\ Edmonds window " hmm.. this brings back memories' He said to himself.. now, where is he?" he said scanning the window..
-
Edmond's brothers were not aware of the owl's presence.
-
After several failed attempts, Ray gave up trying to fix the power. He'd have to go to thehardware store tommarow and get a new fuse. He, Scott and mark headed back up to where dori was tucking Edmond in to bed, she decided that Edmond was just tired. "But mom.." He started before she glared at him. " Edmond, I said drop it." She insisted.
-
Scott noticed the owl, but he couldn't make out the Duke's cape, so he thought it was just a normal animal, as the Duke was about to strike
-
"I'm sure it'll, the question is when." Goldie said, "But should we get started with the fun?" She asked hoping to get their spirits up and their having more fun then sitting around bored and a bit scared or feeling uneasy.
-
"you ever get the feeling something that happened before is about to happen again?" Snipes asked, subtly sensing what the Duke was about to do to Edmond.
-
"What do you mean?" Goldie asked pausing in what she was thing about as she looked over at Snipes curious as to what she meant.
She looked up to see what she could hear about the storm and such outside to try to hear how things were going.
-
"I can't actually tell..." Snipes replied.
-
the duke slowly opened the window but cutting the glass with a claw..
-
:What's that sound?" Scott ask, suddenly feeling a breeze...
-
"It'sthe Duke, run!" Edmond screamed. Dori huffed, she had just calmed him down. "Scott.." She started before she felt a cool breeze too.
-
"There's no Duke..." Scott reminded.
-
At the same over the boy's farm, another dark figure loomed in the darkness of the storm...
-
"Hmm," Goldie said, "Can you tell anything?" She asked Snipes.
-
"No," Snipes replied to Goldie.
-
the Duke slowly pushed the window opened and entered the room..
-
"Huh?" Scott said, hearing a window open.
-
No one knew how much the Duke was actually planning....
-
The Duke planned to flood the world with endless rain, which would make catching prey easier. it would be worse than the last time he had tried.
-
The sad (almost creepy) thing was, despite the plan, the Duke arguably wasn't as evil as the vulture. Yes, the big owl ate his prey, but he didn't really torture it....
Hunch recalled the day he and his uncle had thought up of that plan.
-
"Oh well. Maybe its not anything to bad or odd." Goldie said, hoping it was true.
-
FLASHBACK.
"Uncle Dukie, what do you mean you want to cover the whole world in rain?" Hunch asked.
-
(OOC: Sorry. I've been waiting for my cue and forgot all about it.)
Perfect... Knowing the owl was inside, the vulture made his move. Around the house, the winds began to pick up and whirl at high speeds. Any plants close to the building were uprooted and flung around, a few of which slammed against the windows and shattered them. The increasing wind speeds began to rock the house and seemingly start to shift it out of its foundation...
-
"hat the...what's going on?!" Scott shouted, seeing his house become separate from the ground.
-
Whistler looked out the window into the storm, when something caught his eye in the horizon. Through the limited view of rain, he could make out a shape's silhouette from lightning bouncing around it. It's been a while since he's seen tornadoes, but he sees a darker speck seeming to rise up from the ground.
Excited, he starts whistling loudly for the others' attention, waving them to the window to see what he's seeing...
-
"No......this can't be happening...." Edmond frowned, hearing a familiar chuckle.
-
"Is something up?" Goldie asked as she heard Whistler and went to the window to see what Whistler was whistling about. She looked out the window and squinted her eyes to see if she could make out what was out there.
"Is that what I think it is?" She said.
-
a tornado! Chanticleer cried.. ' Everyone get to safety as fast as you can.. hurry' he said as the telltale sign of a twister became evident
- no this is not a dream young Edmond, you and I have a few scores to settle..
-
"Heh.....no hard feelings?" Edmond smiled nervously in a desperate attempt to stop the Duke, who he knew was within seeing distance
-
"Do you have a storm cellar? That would be a good place to head to." Goldie asked as she looked over at Chanticleer.
-
Edmond cowered in a corner of his room. knowing danger was nearby.
-
Edmund heard a loud sound, listening, he realized it was the Duke who amplified the sound of his rumbling stomach
-
The vulture above began turning the house side-to-side, tossing the contents inside about. "Come on out, you overstuffed turkey!" he shouted. "We have yet to finish our engagement!"
----------
Although the sighting of the tornado was important, there was something more to it that Whistler could see, and he can't explain it to them with his kind of speech. He grabbed Patou and pulled him closer to the window.
"Look, I believe there's a tornado outside," Patou protested. "But you should know I don't see well like you can. See? I can barely see the twister from here."
Whistler slapped his forehead in frustration...
-
"Who's there?!" Edmund called, panicked at the thought of ANOTHER big bad bird of some kind nearby, he could tell the voice didn't belong to the Duke.
-
"Is it safe enough here or should we go elsewhere?" Goldie asked looking around at those present, not having any real experience at things like tornadoes.
-
Edmond gasped as he saw a familiar set of talons stamp down in front of him....
-
" No, Not again!" Edmond cried out as he frantically searched for his flashlight, only find it was not here.
-
"What's here?!" Mark yelled
-
"Like a basement or cellar. Are tornadoes common around here?" Goldie asked as she looked around at the others.
