Title: Power Outages
Post by: The Chronicler on October 15, 2010, 08:10:38 PM
Earlier this afternoon, a strong storm came through the area of my home (strong and very windy, but not strong enough to produce any thunder). Between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., the power went out for a few seconds and this repeatedly happened a total of ten times! (counted it myself) After that, the power went out again and stayed out for nearly two hours.

At this point, I'm not sure if I should be frustrated with all these power outages or just get used to it like everything else. That's why I decided to start this poll to see if other people have this problem like me. How often does the power go out at your house?

For me, I'd say about once every one to three months, and it usually lasts only for a few seconds. I won't deny that fact that virtually all of them happen during strong storms, but I honestly think they shouldn't happen in every strong storm, but, at my place, that seems to be the case, to me.

Very rarely. I couldn't vote on the poll, that choice isn't on there.

How many times has the power gone out at your place, as far as you can recall? You don't have to vote, but if you want to, I have a feeling the most accurate one would be once a year. (I tried to avoid general terms, like rarely or frequently, because not everyone has the same perception of how often something is rare or frequent)

Just two or three times as far as I can remember, but I'd go with 4 or 5 at the most. Probaly more before I was born.

It mainly happen in summer and winter, every years (± 5 times per year), when there is big snow/rain storm. And i don't talk about those who are few second long, i talk about many hours without electricity.

But i bought an emergency battery some years ago so i can still use my computer/tv/lights when its happen. The lights can work a whole day, the tv many hours and the computer 3-4 hours if i do nothing special. If i play to a video game, the battery will be empty in less than 2 hours.

Hardly ever.

I couldn't vote since the frequency depends on if you mean a long power outage which happens once or maybe a few times a year, and brief ones that last a second or a few seconds that seem to happen every month or few months.

For the long power outages, which can last for many hours, I got a book light, which is a aaa powered led booklight.  Which I was surprised when I tested it and it puts out more light then my little flashlight.    This is obviously handy in several ways.  Also I got a mp3 player that runs only on an aaa battery.  Unlike a li-on battery mp3 player, which I have it's battery wont' loose the maximum capacity over time like a li-on battery does.  I'll only use the aaa mp3 player for power outages, but as long as I have spare aaa batteries it may last me for years or longer.  So I have 2 things I know I can use for long power outages.  So I'll not be bored.

My house averages one power outage per year, maybe two sometimes.

Probably once a month...I'm not always home when it happens but the blinking clocks give it away.  Usually it never is for long.  The village has its own power plant and they're pretty reliable.  If power was out for a long time that would worry me since the entire place is electric (stove, heat, etc.).

In my entire life I remember one power outage with any certainty when I was a kid. Perhaps there was a second at some point, but I don't remember. Sometimes the fuse blew, but that was something easily fixed and hardly qualifying as a "power outage".

I've been in a number of power outages but I could probably count them on one hand over a spate of years. The last series of outages we had was the freaky snow storms we had earlier this year around Jan/Feb time. Other than that, can't say we've been hassled by many power outages. Well, aside from when the oven went on the fritz and every time it was turned on it would trip the circuit breaker :DD

I won't say never, but I don't think we have one every year. We have an old electricity system at our house, so we sometimes do have power issues because of that..
