Seeing the year is almost coming to a close, what are your favorite films that were released in this past year?
My top 5:
1. Inception (Literally this is one of my favorite films of all time now.)
2. Toy Story 3 (A rather beautiful conclusion to childhood as a whole.)
3. Saw 3d (A nice send off to one of my favorite series.)
4. Jackass 3d (Haven't laughed this hard in a movie for a while.)
5. A Nightmare on Elm Street (A surprisingly strong horror remake.)
Honorable mention: Kickassia
-
Inception and Toy Story 3 are way up there. Didn't see too many films but i saw those..

-
Avatar's 2009.
-
Avatar's 2009.
It only came out in late december 2009 here, and I only saw it in 2010.... But yeah, I can't think of another movie I saw in 2010 that's worthy of a mention.
-
5. Alice In Wonderland(AKA Alice's Return To Wonderland)
4.Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time ( Finally, a video game film that isn't complete rubbish.)
3.Inception (Interesting concept here).
2.Ironman 2(A great film and even better - its got ACDC)
1.The Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls Of GaHoole(I usually hate CGI animated films but this one actually turned out to be great.)
-
Edited:
Nevermind, here we go:
1. Toy Story 3
2. Shutter Island
3. Despicable Me
That's it. :p
-
Avatar isn't worthy of any mention.
-
I think Avatar's overrated. All anybody seems to be able to talk about is the flashy special effects. The story was certainly nothing new. (And I still say Titanic was way better.)
So here's my top 5 list.
1. How to Train Your Dragon
2. Toy Story 3
3. Iron Man 2
4. Harry Potter
5. I don't have a 5th one. These are the only 4 movies I've seen this year.
-
Avatar isn't worthy of any mention.
To me it is :) I liked it.
-
For me personally "not worth mention" would be exaggerated with regard to Avatar. I found it quite okay though I don't really understand the extreme hype about it either. Well, nothing wrong with people liking it (shrugs).
I haven't seen many new movies this year. One which I had some hopes for "Konferenz der Tiere" (which I think was translated to "Animals United") fell way short of my expectations.
-
Avatar is not in any way a bad movie. I just think it is overrated. But now this is getting off topic so I'm just gonna quit now.

Well I agree with you on that one, I didn't watch it because of the hype but just because I got a free cinema ticket and it was one of the few movies playing at the theatre that time. I enjoyed watching it, nothing more :)
-
I can't name a top five so I'm gonna make a top 9
1. Due Date
2. Toy Story 3
3. Marmaduke
4. Alpha and Omega
5.Despicable Me
6.How to Train Your Dragon
7. Tangled (Any one who has not seen it I recommend it greatly)
8. Marmaduke
9. Nightmare On Elm Street(The remake)
-
Avatar isn't worthy of any mention.
Maybe not to you, but remember this: there are people who did enjoy the movie. This thread is about people's favorite movies of this year. In other words, it's about opinions. Everyone has a different opinions on different subjects. You don't have the right to tell them not to mention Avatar just because you didn't like it. Your opinion is not superior to everyone else's.
-
1. Kray (The Edge)
2. Zvyozdnye sobaki: Belka i Strelka
3. Alpha & Omega
4. Le Concert
5. How to train your Dragon
6. Toy Story 3
7. Marmaduke
8. Cats & Dogs The Revenge of Kitty Galore
9. A Nightmare on Elm Street
10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
-
Avatar isn't worthy of any mention.
Wow...seriously? It's been a year since Avatar came out and you're STILL hating on it? Oh, my God, GET. OVER. IT. We get it: You don't like Avatar and you don't like James Cameron! That doesn't mean no one else does. Yeah, I think Avatar's pretty overrated but I don't think it's a terrible movie.
Why do you feel the need to start stuff with people who like what you don't? Seriously dude, that's something a troll would do. Does it bother you that much that someone likes a film that you don't? Let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. Seriously, you act as if Avatar or James Cameron killed your family.
Anyway, sorry for that little rant. So here's my list of favorite films from this year.
1. Toy Story 3
2. How to Train Your Dragon
3. Despicable Me
4. Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
5. The Tourist(not nearly half as bad as people make it out to be)
-
Okay guys, that's enough. Please stay on topic now :)
-
Oooh, I haven't see a lot :/
1. Toy Story 3 (x 10)
2. Tangled
3. How to Train Your Dragon

Oops, I forgot, I saw Despicable Me. I THINK it's 2010, but I could be wrong.
-
I saw Despicable Me. I THINK it's 2010, but I could be wrong.
It is. :)
-
I didn't see that many movies this year. I saw Guardians of Ga'Hoole, How To Train Your Dragon, Toy Story 3, and Alpha And Omega from what I remember. Of them, I liked Toy Story 3 the best.
-
1. Avatar
2. The Legend of the Guardians
3. How to train your dragon
4. Eclipse
5. Pirates of the Carribean (1-3)
6. The Lord of the Rings (1-3)

1. Toy Story 3 hands down! :D
2. How to train your dragon

3. The Expendables
4. How to Train Your Dragon
5. Inception
-
Toy Story 3
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
Inception
Iron Man 2
The A-Team
Off the top of my head, they're awesome movie, and in no particular order either. I don't get to go to the movies often, but the last three were on DVD when I saw them, the first two I managed to see in the cinemas.
-
1. Toystory 3
2. Karate kid
3. Yogi bear
those are the only ones I saw this year that I actually enjoyed, others were terrible.
-
Hey, Dark and Animeboye, you can both just kiss my ass.
-
Hey, Dark and Animeboye, you can both just kiss my a**.
Hey! Why don't you learn to get used to others opinions? You don't like Avatar, that's your opinion. Kacie and Animeboye just happened to like the movie.
Learn to watch what you say before you post. :anger
How would you feel is I said that to you just because of your opinion was different from mine? :anger
-
WR thats quite enough. we're here to talk about movies, Your comment was out of line. imo..and unnecessary..
-
Oh, back off. I only told them off now that I've seen their little tag team number because they were the ones who made a mountain of a couple of short remarks about the film that I made. You will notice I didn't reply again after my assertion that Avatar isn't worth mention. I dropped it. They continued, so I'm getting my word in.
-
i know you are opinionated WR, but there are better ways of getting your opinion in then simply telling them to kiss your rear. simply put thats not cool. Lets not make a huge deal over this, Avatar is a 2009 film, so its not listed among the films of 2010. People have thier opinions, lets respect those..
-
WR, I'm entitled to my own opinion as you are entitled to yours. If you want people to respect your opinion, you have to learn to respect their opinion.
-
I already said this isn't about opinions anymore. I shot back because I felt I was ganged up on in their replies.
-
even that said there were better ways of going about it. I'm not going to discipline anyone over this, so lets just drop the matter. Alright?
-
Sure, but only for you, Nick.
-
Thank you. now lets get back on topic..
-
This will be my final post to WeirdRaptor. You expect people to respect your opinions yet you continuously attack others for having an opinion different from you. I've seen you on the Michael Bay boards over at IMDB, attacking anyone who says they don't like him or professes their hatred of his movies. So why is it okay for you to attack someone else's likes/dislikes but when someone does it to you, then they were the ones in the wrong?
Adder's right: You need to learn to respect others' opinions. If somebody liked Avatar, big friggin' whoop! So what?! What do you have against it anyway? How would you like it if I said Transformers or Lord of the Rings isn't worthy of mention?
Grow up. And that's all I've gotta say. Sorry, Nick, I just had to get that off my chest.
-
Ummmm...Let's get back on topic.
5. Despicable Me.
4. Zombieland. This came out earlier but I saw it in 2010.
3. Land of the lost. I know this came out earlier but I saw it recently.
2. Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Saw it recently.
1. Chronicles of Narnia, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Amazing movie!
-
^
Is Chronicles of Narnia worth seeing? I've been pretty disappointed with the first two and I compare them to the books...
Haven't seen a lot of movies but:
1.Made in Dagenham was pretty interesting, a lot of feminism and it was something that mum and I watched.
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
3. How to train your Dragon; my cat IS Toothless. Mozart must have gotten an acting career which he hasn't told us about..
That's about it...
-
Update
1. Belka and Strelka - Space Dogs
2. The Edge (Kray)
3. Lourdes
4. Micmacs ‡ tire-larigot
5. Le Concert
-
1. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
2. Kick-Ass
3. Inception
4. Toy Story 3
5. True Grit
Tron: Legacy gets an honorable mention. It would show up on a top 10 list for its visuals, but its story and script keeps it from being in my top 5.
-
If you didn't like the first two narnia films, I highly doubt you'd like Dawn Treader.

Depends on how you look at it. I didn't read the books so I didn't know what to expect when I saw the movie, maybe that's why my opinion is different than yours. You can see it if you want to. But I recommend it to any Narnia fan. It's amazing!
-
i've read all 7 books,, and the problem with the movies is that they came out post LOTR, otherwise it would have received and reviewed better. they're alright from seeing them, but they're not great films imo. for one if you've read the book, you know that the good guys win..
-
^ I get that Nick22, and I respect your opinion, I'm just a Narnia fan that liked the movies that's all. -_- No worries. Maybe I'll read the books sometime. But, I'm getting a little off-topic.
-
^ its quite alright LBT. I recall that they were making 5 films in all, not sure they are still going to do that. Let me be clear, I liked the books, and the movies stayed close to the tone and feel of the book. they were good films, and they kept my interest.
-
for one if you've read the book, you know that the good guys win.
Don't they in nearly every book that is turned into a movie? I know the Narnia books as audio book adaptations. LOTR of course is a movie so popular and (in my opinion) simply so well done that it is a very high scale for later movies to measure up to. But I think that a movie needn't be as good as LOTR to qualify as good generally.
I haven't seen The Voyage of the Dawn Trader yet, simply because there is nobody with the time to come along to the cinema.
I suppose their concern with the movies was to focus on the books involving the Pevensies but I wonder how they might change "The last battle" in case they are going to make that one. The book received some criticism especially for what is perceived as sexism (Susan no longer being considered a "friend of Narnia" because she apparently has developed love interests). I like the books but they are coming with so prominent a message that one can hardly ignore them.
In this context I kind of regret that another film series based on books is unlikely to be continued. Phillipp Pullman wrote the trilogy "His dark materials" as a kind of response to "The chronicles of Narnia" and those books too (granted, again I know them as unabreviated audio books only) are very interesting. However, the first movie they made ("The Golden Compass") did not succeed well in the US (though it did elsewhere). Which is likely to be partly due to the fact that some religious groups protested against it (while other religious people like the archbishop of Canterbury actually encouraged people to read the books). In any case the one movie they made already had been watered down quite a bit, presumably to make it more acceptable, but in the process I think it lost some of its meaning. Kind of censorship based on religious views and adhered to by economic interests I'm afraid... anyway, I'm getting off topic.
-
i agree to a large extent malte i was simply infering that it would have been received differently if it come out say in 2000 (before Harry Potter and LOTR) and had the moviegoers to themselves, perhaps the films would be viewed differently. obviously the Chiristian symbolism is very strong within narnia, thats been pointed out at length.in chronological order The Magician nephew was the first book, although the Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe is the most famous.
