Title: Always the Same Sun
Post by: trulyfantasticme on May 28, 2011, 07:05:14 PM
The sequel to Lost in a Forest! Here's the introduction.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Dream Sequence

Pterano smirked as he and his herd reached their destination: a small and peaceful looking green valley. It wasn’t the Great Valley, but it did have plenty of green food. “We will stop here for the night,” he announced, landing on a rock formation as he watched his herd arrive.

“Wow, nice place!” a female swimmer exclaimed as the next thing she did was getting herself some green food.

“Yeah, who would’ve thought you had it in you, Pterano?” a female threehorn agreed as she watched her three hatchlings fallow the swimmer. “Okay, kids, don’t you go wondering too far, ya hear?”

“You got it, Mom!” one of the threehorn hatchlings shouted back before disappearing in the distance.

“Well I just thought it was the perfect place to rest so-“ he was interrupted when his worst nightmare happened. A terrible rockslide took place, fallowed by a trio of candy-striped sharpteeth.

“Everyone! Run! Get out of here!” he shouted, or at least he tried to, but it proved to be useless. Because they were being cornered by sharpteeth, the herd couldn’t hear him at all. Every where he turned, every where he laid his dark blue eyes on, these poor innocent dinos were becoming dinner. He watched helplessly as the female swimmer that was getting herself green food hung at the edge of the cliff, clinging on to the edge for dear life. Her eyes were begging for help.

Pterano was about to help her, but before he could do so, the edge broke apart, sending the poor swimmer to her death. He couldn’t take this any more as he shielded his eyes. He was about to flee for dear life when…

“Pterano!”

He turned his head in the direction the female voice came from. He was utterly surprised out of his skin when he saw a purple female flyer hiding in the trees. “Pterano…Pterano…”

It was then he realized that he recognized that voice and the purple flyer any where. “Haylie?” He whispered in complete shock.

“Pterano…Pterano…”

…………………………………………..

“Pterano!”

The sweating red flyer snapped his eyes open as his heart pounded in his chest. “Pterano!” Devon asked him worriedly. “Are you okay?”

Pterano hesitated a few minutes as he took a few breaths, trying his best to calm himself down. He turned his head to the blue flyer by his side, then to Littlefoot, Ruby, Chomper, Petrie, Ducky, Spike, and then Cera who all stared back at him with utter concern. He then looked at the night sky behind him. “Pterano?” Littlefoot spoke, snapping the red flyer into reality.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Pterano finally replied. “I just had a bad sleep story, that’s all.”

“Who’s Haylie?” Chomper asked in curiosity.

“She’s…” Pterano sighed again. “Don’t worry about it, just get some sleep. You’re gonna need it if you’re going to play tomorrow.”

The seven nodded, curled up, immediately falling sleep afterwards. Except for Devon, who just continued to stare at him in concern. “Are you sure you’re okay? That was quite the sleep story, ya know.”

“Don’t worry about me, son. Just get back to sleep.” Pterano replied. “Just get back to sleep, alright? I’ll be fine…” he trailed off as the sleepy blue flyer curled up to him. Pterano smiled at his son then stared up at the ceiling. “I hope…”

Ooh...can you feel the suspense?

Enjoy.

Nice opening. It's just like the opening you had for the original Lost in a Forest. A short but sweet opener that sets the mood, but doesn't really give too much away. I was at the edge of my seat after I realized which herd you were talking about.

I was a little worried when you said you'd do a sequel. Not being mean or anything, mind you. It's just Lost in a Forest was such a complete story in and off itself. It can really stand on it's own, it's so good. Anything that wants to expand on that story better do a good job at it, or it might kind of ruin it in a way. that's all.

Though now I'm not so worried. Looks like your going to focus more on Pterano's regrets with this one, and bringing in some new OC's?

Not much else I can say right now. Interested to see what plot this is going to have.

Ooh, yeah, looks insteresting so far! Poor Pterano, it's true what they say you always are your worst critic and even if the whole Valley does evetually forgive him it's like he'll carry this around. Well, I'll see where you take it next! :)

Makes me wonder who Haylie is now. :) Short start, but you got a mystery going, so that's good. :)

Hey guys, Sorry it took so long! I couldn't get on the computer for days. But on the plus side, I completed four chapters this weekend! Yay!!!! Anyway!!!

Fishing

“Are you ready?”

Devon spreaded his wings and smiled at his old father who was spreading his wings as well. “Bring it on, old flyer!” he shouted confidently as they took off into the air, first diving for the grass below and then pulling up at the last minute.

“Let’s see if you can keep up with me this time, hotshot!” Pterano challenged the younger flyer, flying higher.

“Hey, let’s not forget who keeps running into trees during flights like these!” Devon shot back, fallowing the older flyer.

“Quiet you!” Pterano returned and all of a sudden, he smirked. Which only meant one thing…

Pterano flew real low so that he was under his son as he rolled onto his back, looking at him straight in the eyes. “So…” he started coolly, still smirking evilly. “You think old flyers like me can’t dance? Well, let’s see you do this…”

Without another word, the red flyer back flipped, aiming himself toward the earth about a thousand feet below him. And thus, the free fall began as he aimed his beak straight down, fallowed by the rest of his body. He closed his eyes at the wind blew rapidly past him. He felt like a flying rock, the so called “Stone of Cold Fire” to be exact, entering the earth’s atmosphere. Slow and steady at first then faster and faster each second. One second, he’d be travelling five meters per second and the next he would be travelling ten meters per second towards the ground. And so on and so on…

No more than ten feet off the ground, Pterano snapped his eyes open, spreading his wings and pulled up, launching himself towards Devon. And speaking of Devon…

The blue flyer just stared down the path Pterano went, desperately searching for even the smallest sign of Pterano. Oh dear, he sure hoped nothing bad had happened. He was about to fly in and help when…

“WAAAAHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!” Pterano shouted to the heavens from behind the blue flyer. Devon couldn’t help but smile in relief as Pterano rushed in front of him, performing a couple front flips while doing so. “Take that, hotshot!!”

Devon chuckled ate this; Pterano was just your average child at heart, wasn’t he? “Crazy grandpa flyer…” he muttered, smiling, though he was quiet thankful Pterano couldn’t hear. He fallowed the older flyer, quickly catching up to him.

“As you may have noticed, I improved…” Devon smirked at the older flyer.

Pterano chuckled heartily, smiling proudly at his son. “I see you have, young one…” he paused, smirking back. “But its not enough…” With that, he shot himself diagonally towards the beach below them with Devon close behind him.

The blue flyer flew above the older flyer, keeping a good lead over his father. He was the first one to land on the beach, right next to the Big Water so he could feel that refreshing liquid smother his sweaty feet. He waited for the aging flyer to land beside him before they immediately pulled into an embrace. “Yay!! I did it!!!” he practically shouted into the older flyer’s ear. But why did that matter? Devon finally reached his goal and Pterano was proud of him nonetheless. “After all these years, I finally beat you!”

“Yes, you did.” Pterano chuckled, tightening his strong arms around Devon’s back, pulling him closer. “I’m very proud of you, my son.”

Devon nuzzled his shoulder, tightening his arms around Pterano’s neck, never ever wanting to let go of him. He absolutely loved it when Pterano called him “Son.” And he absolutely loved calling him “Dad.” He loved the older flyer with all of his heart and he was so thankful to have him as a father. He even gave Pterano a gentle, loving kiss on the cheek.

The father and son reluctantly broke the hug as they smiled fondly, nuzzling each other’s beaks lightly. “Well, now. Let’s get fishing, shall we?” Pterano offered.

“Of course, Dad.”

Pterano took off to the sky, Devon close behind. “Let’s see who can catch the most fish,” the blue flyer challenged.

“You’re on,” Pterano replied. From then on, the two flyers caught as many fish as they could before the sun was setting over the horizon. Both of their fish piles were big, but no taller than their knees. They looked pretty much the same size, which made it hard to decide who the winner was so…”Wanna just call it a draw?” Devon offered.

“Yeah…” Pterano agreed. With that being said, the two flyers sat next to the rock formation to feast on their fish. Devon took his first fish and held it above his beak…

Only to have it snatched right out of his grasp by Pterano. “Hey!” he reacted.

Pterano just laughed, standing up on his feet. He sniffed the fish. “Mmm…salmon, my favorite, “ he teased as he walked around with the fish in his mouth playfully.

“You’re funny, Pterano.” Devon returned sarcastically. “Really mature…” The blue flyer tried to grab it from the older flyer but Pterano snatched it away just in time.

“My fishy!” Pterano growled playfully with his mouth full as he continued to walk away from Devon, hands on his hips. “Mine!” Devon saw his chance to launch himself towards the red flyer, hopping on his back, causing Pterano to spit the fish out of his mouth. But he caught the fish before it could go in the sand. The next thing Pterano did was bend down, causing Devon to roll off his back.

Devon immediately recovered and lunged at the older flyer again, only to be held back by the beak. Devon pushed with all his might but he just couldn’t break out of the red flyer’s grip. Pterano was about to consume the fish when…

He fell beak first into the sand, dropping the fish while doing so. The fish landed in Devon’s hand and he finally consumed the fish and Pterano…well let’s just say that he got nothing but a mouth full of sand.

The red flyer rolled onto his back to figure out what had just happened. Devon had pulled back, breaking himself from the beak grip. Pterano was leaning on Devon, preventing the blue flyer from getting the fish. And because Devon had broke away, Pterano had nothing left to lean on, so that sent him falling beak first into the sand.

Devon practically had a laughing fit as he helped his father up on his feet. “Very funny, Devon,” Pterano spoke with a raspy voice.

***

About twenty minutes later, Pterano and Devon watched the sun set, remaining silent until…

“Dad?”

“Hmm?”

“Are you okay?” Devon asked worriedly. “You’re…usually not this quiet.”

Pterano chuckled softly, patting his son’s head. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

Devon gave him a “Yeah, right.” look. Last time Pterano said that, he overheard him mutter, “I hope..” just before he fell asleep that night. “It’s about that sleep story, isn’t it?”

Pterano cursed at himself. He loved his son with all his heart and would do anything for him, but sometimes, he just hated it when Devon could read minds. There were three options to get out of this situation.

He could tell his son the truth.

He could lie.

Or he could play dumb.
Actually, playing dumb doesn’t sound like a bad idea right now…”Sleep story? What sleep story?”

“The herd…”

So much for wishful thinking. Pterano sighed. He might as well…”It’s just…ever since I’ve had that dream, I couldn’t stop thinking about…her…”

Devon nudged him gently. “Dad, Haylie’s in a better place now. You don’t have to worry about her anymore.”

“I still miss her though.”

“I’m sure you do,” Devon wrapped an arm around him, giving him a side hug. “But like I said before, you’re not alone in this world. You’ve got me.”

Pterano lovingly at his son. “You’re right,” he leaned against his head gently. “What would I do without you.”

“Yes, I’m a very important creature…” Devon smirked.

Pterano chuckled heartily as he rested his beak on the blue flyer’s head. “That’s right. I’m very proud of you, you know that?”

“At least you are…” Devon pulled away, hanging his head.

Pterano studied him for a moment. He at first wondered what he was talking about but as soon as he recognized the unforgettable look Devon had when he had just confronted his former father, the red flyer knew exactly what this was all about. He placed a fatherly arm around the blue flyer, pulling him close. “Hey, it’s okay. Sierra’s long gone. He can’t hurt you anymore.”

“I know, but still…”

“And even if he did, I’d kick him right out of the Great Valley.” Pterano interrupted, pulling the boy close to his chest.

Devon just shut his eyes, sliding his arms around Pterano’s back. Man, I’m so lucky to have him as a father, Devon thought to himself as the older flyer stroked his head gently.

They broke the hug, smiling fondly at eachother. “Let’s go home, shall we?” Devon spoke. “I sense Petrie is getting worried about you.”

“Of course.” With that being said, the two flyers packed up all the fish they’ve caught into giant treestar sacks. They spreaded their wings and took off into the sunset…

Totally unaware that they were being watched the whole time.

A couple of flyer figures landed on the beach exactly where Pterano and Devon were at. The purple crested flyer walked up to the shore, feeling the water smash against her feet. “What is it?” asked the male flyer in a soft British accent.

“I think I know him…” the purple flyer replied, staring curiously in Pterano and Devon’s path.

“What makes you think that?”

“I don’t know. But for some reason, every time I look at him, the feeling ofde ja vu sweeps over me.” She turned to her pink partner. “Come Rinkus, let us head wherever they are going.”

With that being said, the two flyers took off in Pterano and Devon’s direction, totally unaware of what’s to come…

I just got home from work, bud. Be patient, young one :p

Rinkus hasn't been in this story yet, right? And is that Haylie? I guess we'll find out soon enough  :DD

You've wrote some more great touching scenes, and you've managed to put some humor in them this time, which I really like. I always thought of Pterano being a bit of a kid at heart.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

Awesome chapter! Pterano and Devon are a really sweet father-son pair, I love the thought of Pterano having a son figure. I am interested to see how this relationship between Pterano and Haylie will work out.

So if this is indeed Haylie, she's with Rinkus, which is interesting, as it would mean Haylie is NOT originally what I thought she was... provided this is of course Haylie. She certainly isn't what I was expecting. :)

I liked the homage to "Past that Yawns Behind" in there. Thanks.  :DD Was a rather good move, Pterano turning onto his back and executing his free fall.  :DD You'll see that again I'm sure. ;)

Overall, a pretty good chapter, just some bonding time and whatnot, and leads to questions of who exactly Haylie is now. :)

Nice Job on "Fishing"!  I loved it. Pterano still knows how to do some cool flying tricks. And I loved it when Devon and Pterano watched the sunset.

Rinkus is gonna be in the story too? I like to hear that. This'll be great.

What a long, great chapter. and VERY well written, too. Pterano and Devon are the perfect father and son!  :D  This story is gonna be just as good as "Lost In A Forest" I can tell already!  :yes

I'm so glad you liked chapter one every one! Pterano, yes you did inspire me a bit on the whole Pterano dive thing.  :lol

HERES CHAPTER TWO EVERYONE!!! Warning: It gets sad...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Dinner

Tory and Petrie stood at the cave opening while his siblings just played randomly in the background. They were waiting for Pterano and Devon to return, though they’ve been standing there for about an hour at the most. Petrie looked up at his mother. “Mama, what’s taking Uncle so long?” he complained.

“I don’t know sweetie…” the older flyer replied worriedly. What if there was a reason why Pterano was taking so long? What if they got caught in a storm? What if they got hurt? Or worse, what if a sharptooth found them? She winced at the thought.

The mother and son didn’t have to wait any longer, for they spotted tiny flyer figures with giant tree star in their paws. Pterano and Devon landed in the cave, taking the tree star sacks into their hands. “Hi there!” Devon greeted as Tory wrapped her arms around his neck. He couldn’t help but smile as he hugged her back. Ever since Pterano had taken him in, he has always thought of her as an aunt. In fact, legally, she was his aunt!

“Are you boys alright?” Tory asked, cupping her nephew’s cheeks.

“Yeah, we’re okay.” Pterano replied, placing his tree star sack on the ground, digging out a fish and tossed it to his younger sister, smirking. ”Think fast!”

Too bad she didn’t. Cause she wasn’t paying attention when Pterano tossed that fish as she concentrated on her adoptive nephew. She looked just in time for the fish to hit her on the beak, nearly sending pain in her eyes from the juice. “Ow!”

“Ooops! Sorry. But…I did warn you…” Pterano apologized.

She rolled her eyes at his comment. “UNCLE!!!” Petrie shouted, soaring straight into his uncle’s arms as though he was a magnet. That caused the older flyer to drop to his knees due to the momentum.

“Well,” Pterano chuckled warmly, hugging his little-wait a minute! Petrie was no longer the little hatchling that could fit on Pterano’s beak anymore. In the last two years, he has grown quite a bit. In fact, he was just a little taller than the height of Pterano’s leg. So, practically, Petrie was tall enough to reach his uncle’s shoulders. Pterano chuckled warmly, hugging his growing nephew close to his chest. “Hello there, Petrie.”

As if on cue, two of Petrie’s siblings attacked him with hugs, fallowed by four more and then three more, causing the older flyer to fall on his back with an “Ooof!” Pterano couldn’t help but chuckle as his nephews and nieces snuggled up to him. He brought his wings as far as he could around the young ones. “Let me rephrase that! Well, hello there, young ones.”

Devon and Tory shared a look, shrugging before Tory clapped her hands twice. “Okay, kids,” she smirked. “You’re uncle’s not as young as he used to be. Now get off before you hurt his back.”

“Yes Mama,” the flyers replied in unison before stumbling off the red flyer. Except for Petrie, who remained in Pterano’s lap when he sat back up, resting on his arms.

“Oh, come on, Mama,” Petrie told the female flyer. “He not that old.”

“Thatta boy!” Pterano cheered, embracing his nephew, pulling him close to his chest. He reached for a fish and handed it to Petrie. “Here you go! Way to stand up for your dear uncle!”

“Thank you, Uncle,” Petrie replied, gazing up at his uncle in great admiration before he consumed the fish.

***

Pterano stood at the opening of his and Devon’s cave, just staring up at the stars like he usually would do if he couldn’t sleep. Except this time, he had a reason for not being able to sleep…

*Flashback*

Pterano soared in the air, carrying a couple fish in his mouth. It has been a few weeks since he had proposed to his long time girlfriend, Haylie. Haylie, that was such a pretty name he thought. He was so glad that in a few days, he and Haylie would not only be officially married, but they would also be parents. Just then, the sky turned dark, the clouds forming above him. And it started raining. “Oh great,” he thought. Sky water was the last thing he needed.

A few minutes later he was about to reach his cave when lightning had hit, nearly knocking the red flyer off balance. And just when he thought the rain was bad, a sea monster lurked in the Big Water below him. He gasped as he didn’t have any time to flee as the sea monster burst out of the Big Water, aiming its jaws for him.

He dodged and the swimming sharptooth dove back into the Big Water. “Pterano!!!”

He turned himself around to see a female flyer, dark purple on the outside, light purple on the inside, crested and a reddish-pink neck ring, lunging towards him. “Haylie!! NO!!! Don’t come near!!!” Pterano shouted, trying to signal her to save herself.

But she kept lunging at him as the sea monster bursted out of the Big Water, once again lunging for the red flyer. Pterano turned his neck to see rows of sharp teeth, both top and bottom and a tongue just waiting to get a taste of him. He braced himself for impact until…
A strong force rammed him to the side, pushing him away from the sharptooth’s mouth. The red flyer regained his balance to see what had happened. He could see the tail of the sharptooth sink back into the water, never to be seen again. But he couldn’t find any sign of Haylie.

“Haylie...?” Pterano called, but it was in a voice so soft that only he could hear. “Haylie…?” His eyes widened as he realized that Haylie had sacrificed herself to save him. He then remembered about the eggs that Haylie had laid a few weeks before. “Oh no…”

Pterano flew off at full speed to the cave that he and Haylie were going to raise their family in. But only to see that his eggs have disappeared as well. His heart sank and sadness swooped over him. Egg stealers must have gotten them, or they must have been snatched by a flying sharptooth. “Oh no…” he tried to search the area, but he could find not even the smallest sign for survivors. He screamed in anger as he pounded his fists on the ground, causing a couple of tiny rocks to jump from the impact.

“Okay, calm down, Pterano.” He told himself, trying his hardest to calm himself down. “Maybe I’m overreacting. Maybe she made it and on her way right this minute.” He was about to take off to find Haylie when a tall, green, non-crested elderly flyer landed in his cave. He placed a hand on the frightened red flyer’s shoulder. “Pterano…”

“Where is she, Clayton? Is she out there?”

The green flyer shook his head. “I’m sorry, Pterano,” he spoke in a raspy voice. “She’s not with us anymore…”

“What do you mean?” he knew the answer but he was in denial.

“She’s gone, Pterano…”

****

It had been almost thirty five years since then. When his girlfriend died, he only had his Uncle Peter to help him through his loss. That lasted a long twenty years and just when Pterano was finally seeing the light, his uncle had passed away of old age. Fifteen years later, Petrie was born.

Pterano let a few tears of grief run down his cheeks. “Oh, Haylie…if only I was there to protect you…” He nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard a cool voice call out from behind him.

“Hello, Pterano. Did you miss me?”

Great flashback! I feel really sorry for Pterano, especially for his family-to-be that never was. Poor eggs :(

You're great at cliffhangers. I'm wondering who that voice is. From past experience, I'm guessing it's probably Haylie, but it'd be exciting if it was Sierra or Rinkus.

I'm hoping the next chapter has some action in it. All of these touching scenes are good, but I need some action too!

I thought I was keeping up with reviewing after reading. Apparently not. Anyway last two additions have been great as well. If Haylie had that deep a past connection I'm sort of surprised she didn't recoqnize Pterano straight off rather than the de'ja vu, but like you said, going by the same "human years" it has been like thirty years or something so I guess that explains that.

Hmm, makes me suddenly realize though...maybe it isn't Haylie who just said hi! Of course it could be...or you could just be messing with your readers again... :)

One thing I noticed. You say that Haylie apparently died from that swimming sharptooth 35 years ago, yet in the flashback in the prolugue, she's apparently there in that valley during the tragedy? That doesn't make much sense to me, unless there's something else here I don't see.

I hate to disappoint you, Vonboy, but there is no action in this chapter whatsoever. There will be action in later chapters, I promise you that.  :)

Okay, before I begin, I friggin cried writing this chapter! And I never cry during romantic moments, I swear! My own writing is getting to me...

Yes, this chapter is very romantic. But don't worry, it doesn't have any...kinky scenes. I don't write those.  :p Just sweet, romantic moments between-

ONTO CHAPTER THREE!!!!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

You and I

“Hello, Pterano. Did you miss me?”

Pterano whirled around at the recognizable female voice he missed so much to see none other than…”Haylie?”

“Hey, Pterano…” the female purple flyer explained, tears of joy forming in her eyes. “I-I’m sorry I couldn’t get to you sooner. It’s just…when I escaped from the swimming sharptooth that night, I couldn’t find you. I searched every where, but I could never find you. I thought you were dead and I failed to protect you and-“ Pterano couldn’t help it any more as he rushed up to her, scooping her up in his arms and kissing her tenderly for the first time in thirty five years. At first, she was shocked by his action but then she wrapped her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss.

“Oh, Haylie,” Pterano spoke smoothly, cupping her cheeks. “Do you know how long I’ve waited for you? Do you know much I’ve longed to sweep you off your feet again?”

“I’m so sorry, Pterano,” she said, kissing him affectionately.

“No, I’m sorry,” Pterano placed her down on the ground, but still cradling her in his arms. “I knew you were out there. I just didn’t realize it.” he kissed her forehead. “Oh Haylie,” he kissed her cheek.  “My beautiful baby blossom…” he kissed her other cheek before cupping the both of them. “I love you, Haylie.” He pulled her close to his chest. “I’ve missed you so much.”

“I’ve missed you too, Ronnie,” Haylie sobbed into the red flyer’s chest as he cradled her close to him, burying his face into her neck before resting his beak over her head. He decided he’d sing her the one verse he’s been dreaming to sing to her since he was young. “Whisper in my ear a wish, we could drift away. Held tight, your voice inside my head. The kiss is infinite and ours alone tonight. We could drift away…” he kissed her forehead once again before whispering, “We could drift away…”

They remained silent as Haylie enjoyed the sound of his heartbeat, finally calming herself down. They reluctantly broke the hug, taking eachother’s hands and nuzzling eachother’s beaks. “Are you okay?” Pterano asked in his soft British accent that Haylie adored so much.

“I am now, thanks to you,” she replied.

“Come, Baby Blossom, let us fly through the night.” The red flyer offered, tightening his hands around hers.

She smiled warmly at him. “Of course, my little Ronnie.” And with that the two love flyers took off into the night, soaring over the sleeping dinosaurs below them. The happy couple gazed into eachothers’ dark blue eyes and grassy green eyes for a romantic moment before Pterano flew higher, aiming himself for the clouds. He flew around the cloud, creating an “ice cream cone” shape before catching up with Haylie.

Haylie smirked at him before diving for the ground. At first Pterano was shocked and confused but then he quickly got over it as he realized what was going on. “Oh yes!” he shouted before he too dove for the earth below him. So they free fell, wind blowing through their bodies. She was the first one to pull up at twenty feet off the ground, waiting for her love to catch up with her.

As for Pterano, he waited until he was about ten feet off the ground when he pulled up, snatching green food in his beak while doing so. The two smiled at eachother as Pterano showed his teeth, revealing left over tree star bits clenched in his teeth. Haylie laughed, flying ahead of a confused Pterano.

The red flyer licked his teeth, realizing that he had tree star bits in his mouth. He spat the remaining food out of his mouth before catching up with Haylie as she signaled him to fallow her.

The purple flyer was the first to land on a rock formation as Pterano fallowed suit. He took her into his arms, spinning her around.

Haylie dipped her head back, watching as the stars seemed to go round and round. She spreaded out her arms, showing the red flyer her trust as they spun a couple times before stopping. She pulled her head back up to face him. She couldn’t help but shiver as he pulled her closer, smiling as he stared deep into her eyes. She cupped his cheek, kissing the other cheek. Then she placed her hand on the bottom of his beak, drilling it towards her as their lips locked in a passionate kiss.

They broke apart for air and then kissed again, only harder and longer. She stepped on his toes to scoot herself closer to him, wrapping her arms around his neck. But Pterano didn’t mind. In fact, he pulled her closer as he deepened the kiss. He lifted her up as she crossed her legs around him, hugging him tightly.

They finally gasped for air as they broke the kiss, nuzzling eachother’s beaks. “I love you, Ronnie.” She said, kissing his cheek.

Pterano chuckled, smiling lovingly at the female flyer in his arms. “I love you too, my Baby Blossom. I will always love you…” they kissed again before they saw something at the top of their eyes. They gazed up at the sky to see…

A flying rock…another flying rock…and another flying rock. Haylie laid her head on Pterano’s shoulder, taking in the scent of his neck. He couldn’t help but smile as he tightened his arms around her, resting his head on hers, enjoying her presence.

****

About twenty or so minutes pass as the two flyers sat next to eachother on the ledge of the cliff, still watching the stars. Pterano had his arm protectively around her as she laid on his shoulder. “Haylie?”

“…Hmm?”

“It’s getting late…”

She nuzzled his shoulder, cuddling up to him. “Mmm…just a few more minutes?”

“But we don’t want to keep Devon waiting…”

She pulled away from him in curiosity. “Who’s Devon?”

He got up on his feet, holding her hands so she too could stand up. He tightened his claws around hers, smiling in pride. “Come, Haylie. I would like you to meet our son.”

I'm not too much into lovy-dovy stuff, so I didn't really like this chapter that much. It's not a bad chapter, mind you. You wrote it pretty well, I was just in the mood for something else.

I want Action! I want Conflict! Give me some kind of problem that has to be resolved!

That is all -_-
Title: Always the Same Sun

Is it just me... or is this not what it seems? I mean yes, there's a lot of romance here, and good scenes of it too. But correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that Haylie with Rinkus earlier on? I really, REALLY hope that she's not playing him here. I can't imagine she would be though... I mean the flashback pretty much denoted their deep relationship. They were mates and everything. So like... I really hope she isn't playing him.

It was good... yes it was good. I think you wrote the romantic parts well (some errors here and there, but I can overlook them) and got a good thing going which I HOPE won't be shattered. I doubt it though. I'm sure something bad will occur, but they'll end up together. :DD

You know Pterano, I didn't even notice that! Perhaps in my disappointment in no action, I'm overlooking what's going on behind the scenes here.

I'll try to be more open-minded in my review of your next chapter.

Here's chapter five every body.
Update:Whoa! Major typo in that one! I mean to say chapter FOUR not five! Stupid me! :oops :lol

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Family Reunited

The two flyers quietly landed in the cave. “There he is,” Pterano whispered pointing at his sleeping son in front of them.

“Him?” Haylie asked, confused. This “son” of Pterano’s sure didn’t look like him. If not, completely the opposite. And yet some how, this kid looked oddly familiar to her. “Umm…how exactly is he…your son?” Oh dear, she sure hoped that Pterano wasn’t…dare she say, cheating on her.

“I adopted him,” Pterano simply replied, not noticing a sigh come out of Haylie’s mouth.

Pterano couldn’t help but smile as his heart swelled with pride. Devon looked so cute all curled up like that, especially under the shining moonlight. The red flyer shifted towards the sleepy blue flyer, kneeling beside him and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Devon…Oh Devon…wake up, son…”

The red flyer received no response as Devon just stirred, smiling slyly as he mumbled, “My fishy,” silently.

“He talks in his sleep sometimes,” Pterano explained, shrugging at Haylie. He grinned as he bent himself over Devon’s ear. He took a deep breath before yelling, “DEVON!!!!!”

It worked, but sometimes Pterano wondered; is it really worth it? Because he just got slapped in the bottom of the beak by a blue hand, knocking Pterano over a little. But he caught himself before he could fall onto his tail. He wiggled his beak uncomfortably; that’s the last time I ever wake my son like that…

At least Devon realized what he had accidentally done. “Ooops! Sorry, Dad.”

“It’s okay, son…” Pterano wiggled his beak one last time before smiling lovingly at him, getting on his feet. He held a hand for Devon to grab on, helping him up as well. He pulled the boy close, leading him towards Haylie. “Devon…I would like you to meet your mother.”

If there was a world record for the lowest jaw drop, Devon would definitely get the title. Pterano signaled his purple mate to come closer. “Haylie, dear, this is our son, Devon.” The red flyer smiled in pride for his son.

“M-Mom?” Devon spoke in a low whisper, but loud enough for Haylie and Pterano to hear it.

She smiled like she never smiled in her life, nodding. She was at lost for words. She has always dreamed of having a son, even if he wasn’t in her species. Pterano was sure right about him being beautiful. She immediately threw her arms around him.

Devon was at first shocked by Haylie’s action. But she was his mother now and he couldn’t help but wrap his arms around her. He was also surprised that she was here, and by here, I mean alive. Pterano had told him about how she bravely saved him from the sharptooth a few weeks ago. But he didn’t care. She was his mother now just like Pterano is his father. He couldn’t help but smile as they embraced tighter.

****

Pterano and Haylie laid there, smiling at eachother as they were curled up protectively around a sleeping Devon. They stared into eachothers eyes as this thought hit the both of them: We’re gonna be great parents. She stroked his cheek gently. “I’ve always wanted a son.”

“Why’s that?” Pterano asked.

“So he can be as wonderful as you, Ronnie,” she replied, nuzzling him. “I’m very proud of you.”

“Thank you, Baby Blossom.” But she didn’t hear him as she had already drifted into a sleep when he said that.

Pterano couldn’t help but smile at his mate and son. Haylie looked so beautiful under the moonlight. Even after all these years, she’s still as attractive as she was when he first laid his eyes on her.

As for Devon, there were no words to describe just how adorable he looked all curled up against him like that. Just like a pearl that shone brighter than any star would twinkle. He admired his son, just as much as his son admired him. He felt so lucky that he had him as a son. His spirits lifted when he felt the sleepy blue flyer pull Pterano’s wing closer around him before wrapping an arm tightly around his neck, burying his face into the red flyer’s chest.

Pterano chuckled, rubbing his son’s back gently. He nuzzled him lovingly, giving him a tender good night kiss to the forehead. “I love you, my son.” He whispered, falling asleep right after.

Well Devon certainly accepted her rather quickly. :) He must be quite trusting of Pterano, and really like him as a father figure if he's OK with Pterano having a past mate. :)

Pretty short, so I guess I'm just waiting for the conflict to show up. I know it has to be coming at some point. XD Good introductory stuff though. I like how he admires her when she's sleeping, even after all these years. ^^

Already, before you read, I just wanted to let every one that likes my stories that I am grateful for their support. But I have one favor to ask. Please leave feedback sooner.

I'm sorry, it's just that I feel like I have to pm people or else I don't get any feedback. Literally, it was only after I pm'd Pterano and Vonboy to let them know about my new chapters and I'm kinda getting sick of doing that. It's kinda annoying, if you ask me.

So please, people. Leave feedback. I don't care if you just say "Neat chapter" or something like that. I just wanna hear from you.

Here's chapter five. No not chapter four part two. But the real Chapter Five. :lol

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friend or Foe

Pterano snapped his eyes open as he laid there next to Haylie and Devon. He smiled as Devon still clung to his neck. He carefully removed the blue flyer’s arm and stood up, gazing at the rising sun. He sighed happily. “What a beautiful morning,” Pterano told himself silently.

“Psst…Pterano…over here!”

The faint whisper caused the red flyer to jump in fright. He was not expecting that. He turned to the his side, to see a pink hand sticking out of the side of the cave, signaling to come closer. “What are you waiting for?” the voice seemed to have a British accent, kind of like his, but higher. The voice sounded familiar…very familiar. But Pterano just couldn’t put a single claw on it.

“Who are you?” Pterano whispered in curiosity, taking baby steps toward the voice, but also avoided being too close. For he knew something could happen if he didn’t.

“You’ll know once you fallow me.”

Pterano just didn’t know what to do. He didn’t want to keep this creature waiting, for it was rude to do so no matter who you are. But he didn’t want to leave his family either. Only a few minutes, he finally decided.

As it turns out, the mysterious British accent appeared to come from a pink flyer, who took off immediately after he said his last statement. So Pterano couldn’t tell who that flyer was. But he took off after him any way.

****

By the time the sun was in the blue sky, Pterano landed on the ground between a sleeping swimmer and threehorn. He recognized this spot; this was the exact spot that he and his comrades planned to find the so called Stone of Cold Fire. And speaking of his comrades…

A pink none crested flyer landed beside Pterano, swinging his long club pointed tail behind him so he could walk without tripping. Pterano gasped and then gritted his teeth. He knew this flyer. He knew this flyer well. “You…” he clenched his fists, preparing himself for any of his former comrade’s tricks. “What are you doing here!?!?”

“Don’t be frightened, Pterano,” Rinkus held his paws up in defense. “I mean you no harm.”

Frightened? Pterano? What nerve! The correct term would be utterly outraged. “Yeah sure, Mr. Rinkus,” he beamed sarcastically. “What do you have planned for me this time? No wait! Let me guess, there have been a second Stone of Cold Fire and you want me to lead you to it so you and Sierra can betray me behind my back again!” Pterano shivered at the memory. “Well, sorry, Mr. Rinkus. I’m afraid your brilliant plan has failed for once.”

“I assure you, Pterano.” Rinkus told him calmly. “I have no plan in my wings whatsoever. I’m here to warn you.”

“Of what? Sierra?”

“No! I’m trying to warn you about the sharpteeth!”

Now Pterano was all ears. “Sharpteeth? Where?”

“In the Hidden Mountains. They’re one their way to the Great Valley right now!”

“What!?!” Pterano gasped, for the Hidden Mountains was the exact shortcut to the Great Valley he told Littlefoot about two years earlier. “Rinkus, you go distract the sharpteeth! I’ll go warn the others!”

“Got it, boss!” Rinkus spreaded his wings, about to take off when he suddenly realized: “Wait a minute! Me? Distract the sharpteeth? What do you expect me to do?!?”

“Just think of something!” Pterano snapped before gazing at Rinkus. The pink flyer looked very frightened, not knowing what to do. He looked exactly like Pterano did when he lead his half of the herd into their deaths. The red flyer almost felt sorry for him. “Alright, fine. I’ll go distract the sharpteeth, you go warn Mr. Longneck!” Without further conversation, Pterano took off to the skies, leaving behind a confused Rinkus.

“Who the heck is Mr. Longneck?” he asked himself, not sure if he heard Pterano correctly.

****

Petrie and his siblings were just looking for their breakfast, just like they would do every morning when a loud roar shook the land. Of course, that caught them off guard, and knocked them to the ground. Some regained their flight, but the others fell to the ground. Luckily, they weren’t very high from the ground either. A large green sharptooth with a scratch on his eye came around the corner, its first gaze being at Petrie. It was fallowed by a couple of fast biters by the name of Screech and Thud. Apparently, this sharptooth wasn’t just any sharptooth…

“RED CLAAAAAAWWW!!!!!!!” Petrie shouted to the heavens as he and his siblings were about to run for it when…

A treestreet splashed in Red Claw’s face, causing it to stumble back. “Get away from them!” Pterano bellowed at the top of his lungs angrily.

“Uncle!” Petrie shrieked happily. “You’re here!”

“Run Petrie!” Pterano threw another tree sweet at Thud, nailing his face, causing the two fast biters to head butt each other due to tree sweet juice in their eyes. Frightened enough from the impact, they fled for safety, leaving only Red Claw, who aimed his jaws for Petrie.

“Hey Dumb Claw!” Pterano shouted as he held his last tree sweet. “Try to catch this without crying your eyes out!” with that, he threw the tree sweet at him, as it landed right in Red Claw’s mouth. That caused the green sharptooth to spit out the tree sweet bits out of his mouth as hot tears formed in his eyes. Therefore, he fled back to the Mysterious Beyond. “And it will be a lot worse if you try to  lay a single ugly tooth of yours on my nephew’s and nieces again!” Pterano yelled after him, watching as the sharpteeth disappeared around the corner.

The red flyer landed on the ground in front of his nephews and nieces.

“Uncle Pterano!”

“You saved us!”

“We love you!”

With those little phrases being said, the youngsters attacked their uncle with the biggest hugs and kisses, causing the older flyer to drop to his knees as he held them close. He chuckled. “I love you too, dear children. I love you too.”

By now, Grandma and Grandpa Longneck arrived along with the rest of the valley council, fallowed by Tory, Haylie, Rinkus and Devon. The flyers broke the hugs, save for Petrie of course, who just remained on Pterano’s lap, his small arms still wrapped tightly around the his uncle’s neck. So he was just hugging Pterano as a way of thanking him; I was so scared we were gonna get eaten and you saved us. THANK YOU!!!! Petrie tightened his arms around the red flyer’s neck at the thought.

As for Pterano, he just sat there, continuing to hold his frightened nephew close to him. He rubbed his back and stroked his head, anything to calm the little flyer down. Petrie nuzzled him before tucking himself under Pterano’s beak. The brown flyer smiled as he listened to the older flyer’s beating heart. He closed his eyes, enjoying every beat. That seemed to do the trick.

“Are you alright?” Grandpa Longneck spoke, causing the two flyers to break the hug.

“Yeah, thanks to my uncle here.” Petrie smiled at his uncle, who just returned the grin, placing a hand on his nephew’s shoulder squeezing it tightly.

Devon was the second to hug him, fallowed by Haylie. “Well the sharpteeth are gone. Well done, Pterano.” Grandpa Longneck spoke.

“Thank you,” Pterano returned, smiling in pride.

“But how did the sharpteeth know about the Hidden Mountains?”

Grandpa Longneck’s question left the whole Great Valley Council whispering, trying to figure out what had possibly happened. But no one in the group noticed that they were being watched.

Two young threehorns: a green and purplish one blended with the nature around them perfectly. “What do we do now, Layla?” the purple one asked, voice revealing to be a male gruff voice, kind of like Mr. Threehorn’s but much softer.

The green threehorn didn’t pay attention to her brother’s question as she continued to stare at the red flyer in the distance like a fly that needed to be squished quickly. “Layla?”

“We go tell the boss,” she finally replied. “And then we find our father and let him know that our so-called leader is finally getting what he deserves.”

The purple threehorn chuckled evilly. “We’ll make him regret leaving us, eh?”

Layla continued to gaze at the red flyer in the distance who pushed a rock off a cliff to block the shortcut to the Great Valley. “Very soon, Pternao…you will pay for leaving our mother to die in that sharptooth attack. Very soon…”

“Now let’s get outta here before someone sees us!” The purple threehorn told her, snapping her out of her thoughts before running off.

“Right behind you, Jordon!” Layla replied, sprinting off after her younger brother.

Hey

Yeah I'm reading through this too, but not doing a very good job reviewing to let you know that. Sorry. Anyway, loving it still and ooh, this doesn't look good for Pterano, obviously.

Yes. i'm reading every chapter, too. I love "Always The Same Sun".

I'm happy that Pterano got to see Rinkus again...  :yes  I'm very happy that Rinkus is in the story.

And the part where Pterano saved Petrie and his other nieces and nephews from redclaw was wonderful..

And as for when Petrie listened to Pterano's heartbeat. :) that was such a nice, tender, loving moment. I love it when Devon falls asleep listening to Pterano's gentle, calming, heartbeat too. :)

Great job on Chapter 5.  I was very happy and excited when I read the part where Rinkus was hiding and whispered to Pterano from outside the cave...  :yes

Good chapter and I hope to see more coming our way soon. ;)

Wow, this was a great chapter! 5 chapters in, and we finally have our villians revealed!

Quote
I'm guessing those two threehorns are Cera's siblings?

I liked the action with Redclaw, even though it was quite short. You hint at it getting a lot worse soon, so I look forward for that.

Update soon!

Ahhh OK, so Haylie's not just playing (I sort of knew that but yea XD), and it's good to see Rinkus is now more trying to help Pterano than get back at him. Interesting how Pterano offered to distract the sharpteeth instead of Rinkus, but I think it fits. ^^

So here we have our conflict. Once again, it seems like we have similar plots in this regard, though I think our villains differ. I think I'll go with vonboy's guess on this one, as the same thought struck me when I read this last night, in terms of who these two threehorns are.

OMG!!! You guys are the best! Thank you all so much for the feedback!!! I love you guys!!!

And I'm SO sorry for taking so long to update! It's just that I had a hard time finishing this chapter due to the STUPID writer's block!  :anger I hate writer's block!

So here it is. The wait is over.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Comeback

By sunset, the rock pile Pterano and the Valley Council were working on rose about a good twenty feet from the ground, which should be enough to keep the sharpteeth away, or at least Pterano hoped. The red flyer shot himself into the air and landed next to Grandpa Longneck’s foot. “Excellent job, everyone,” he panted due to the exhaustion, leaning against the older longneck’s foot. “Whew…I don’t know about any of you, but…” he panted again before saying the one thing that a younger Petrie would’ve said. “Me tired…” with that, the red flyer collapsed to his knees, and then to his stomach, falling asleep right after.

That had almost the whole herd laughing, except, of course for Mr. Threehorn, who just simply “Hphm”ed and plodded away from the herd. Devon gave the older longneck a look that clearly said, “A little help here…”

Grandpa Longneck nodded, knowing what that meant, lifted the old flyer with his tail. “He’s right, it is time we’d start getting home.” He announced. The herd immediately decided that the old longneck was right and they all headed for their resting places for the night.

But not a single one of them noticed a head poking out of a hole in the rock formation. Not just a head, a fast biter’s head, watching as the herd slowly strolled to their resting places. An evil smirk appeared on its mouth before removing its head, leaving a hole in the rock pile.

****

By the time the stars were out, Mr. Threehorn arrived at his “home”, immediately laying down afterwards. He sighed sadly; it was exactly ten years ago this night that he discovered the loss of his wife and children. Last time he saw them, they were heading off with Pterano and his part of the herd. He can still remember the shock he felt when Pterano landed in front of him and Grandpa Longneck that night. He can still taste the tears he shedded that night. Ever since, he has hated the old flyer’s guts and would do anything to avenge his family…if he had the chance. But little did he know, his chance would come sooner than he thought…

“Daddy!”

That caught the old threehorn off guard as he held his head up, searching for the source of the voice that had just called to him. At first, he thought it was his only surviving daughter, Cera, but apparently that voice appeared to be too low to be her. “Would you look at that, Ellie?” he muttered to the heavens. “I’m getting so old, I’m starting to hear voices inside my head now!”

“Daddy!!”

There it is again. And it definitely wasn’t his old imagination. He turned around to see a couple of familiar young threehorns racing towards him with great speed. He was utterly shocked to recognize these two threehorns. For these two threehorns just happened to be…

“Layla? Jor-Ooof!” was all he could say before the two threehorns tackled him, knocking him off his feet and to his side.

“Daddy…” Layla murmured, nuzzling his neck gently and lovingly.

Mr. Threehorn couldn’t help but chuckle at the young one, nuzzling her back. “Well, I’m glad to see you too, sweetie.”

“Topsy?”

The reunited father and his children gazed up at the female voice. There stood Tria, with Cera by her side and Tricia, who was fast asleep on her back. “Just who, may I ask are these two young threehorns, Topsy?” she asked kindly, though she already had an idea…

“My kids,” Mr. Threehorn simply replied, nuzzling his children that were still nestled up against him. Cera couldn’t help but stare in utter shock as she recognized these two threehorns instantly. Her eyes were as wide as treestars and her jaw practically dropped to the ground. In fact, if there was a world record for the world’s lowest jaw drop, Cera would come in as a very, very close second to Devon. Either that, or she and Devon would be tied together in a draw.

And just when the thought of, “Pinch me, I’m dreaming,” had hit her, a ground crawler snuck up by her foot and pinched her in the ankle. If she wasn’t so excited, she would be screaming in pain by now and probably waking up the entire valley. But it did cause her to speak. “Layla? Jordan?”

“CERA!!!!” the two younsters shouted at the top of their lungs, breaking from their father’s embrace and raced towards their younger sister that they haven’t seen in a long time.

“Wow! What a surprise!” she told them, nuzzling them back. “I thought you two were…” she then gazed down at the ground, remembering the night she found out.

“We thought the exact same about you, Cera.” Layla returned, sending her younger sister a wink. “Man, I’m so glad to see you again!”

“Me too, Layla…” Cera then remembered something and she frowned. “Say, did you ever get a hold of Mom?”

Mr. Threehorn held his head up, listening very closely. His heart pounded in his chest and his knees felt weak, like they were about to fall off. He really hoped they found their mom…

“No, I’m afraid not.” Layla frowned, gazing at the ground. Mr. Threehorn sighed in the deepest disappointment. “But we have come up with a way to avenge her death!”

“Yeah!” Jordan agreed, standing up proudly. “We’ll show that no good dirty flyer what it’s like to be abandoned. We will!”

It didn’t take long for Cera to figure out whom they were referring to. A worried look appeared across her face. She gazed up at her father, who looked as worried as she was, even though he tried to hide it. “Oh, and how are you going to do that?”

Jordan didn’t answer, just smirked evilly at the two worried threehorns. A smirk so evil, it sent fear into their hearts…

****

The sun was rising over the horizon as Pterano fluttered his eyes open. As usual, he was the first to wake up that morning. “Good morning, Baby Blossom…” he muttered, yawning sleepily as he wrapped his arm around her and…a rock?

“Devon?” Pterano whispered, sitting up to look around the cave. But all he found was that rock, Haylie and the cave opening.

“Devon…?”

Ah, sorry for not reviewing in so long. Anyway, this chapter was a bit suprising. I knew those two had something to do with Cera, ha! Wonder what's happened with Devon...hm...

I'm interested in seeing if it's just the two long lost sibling threehorns that behind this, or if Cera and/or Mr. Threehorn are playing a part in this as well. If they aren't behind it, I wonder what they'll do? Will they try to stop their family to save Devon? Will they just stand by and be neutral? I really want to see how all of that is going to play out :DD .

This was a GREAT chapter, as far as setting up mystery and suspense is concerned. You're really hitting your stride again!.

CHAPTER SEVEN IS UP!!! Yay! I hope this makes up for the extremely long delay!

Here it is, Chapter 7: The Taken

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Taken

By now, the sun was high up in the sky and so was Pterano. All morning, he’s been searching high and low for his son and trying to figure out what had happened. At least two suggestions hit his mind; maybe, he had gone to the Big Water, due to the fact that he likes to fish. But why would he go there without telling his father? And just why would he go when he knows there’s plenty of leftover fish here in the Great Valley? Knowing Devon, that just made absolutely no sense. The second suggestion was; what if Devon had a favorite place he never told Pterano about? This is why Pterano kept his eye out for even the smallest sign of black and blue.

And thus, he couldn’t find any sign of it, despite the fact that he checked everywhere-and I mean everywhere in the Great Valley. He literally checked every tree, every boulder, every swamp and even the waterfall at the bass of the valley. He checked every family and every “home” he knew of. And still no sign of his beloved son.

He was about to lose all hope when a third suggestion hit his mind, thought it didn’t really make any sense. What if Devon had gone to Mr. Threehorn’s place? But why would Devon be visiting him? Knowing Devon, it was almost impossible. But he had to try.

“Excuse me, Miss Tria?” he landed in front of the female threehorn, panting due to the exhaustion. “Whew! I’m not as young as I used to be…”

“What is it, Pterano?” Tria asked, her voice in utter concern. When Pterano was in a hurry, she knew almost immediately something was wrong. “Are you okay?”

“Well, I am. But I’m not sure if my son is.” He took a deep breath. “Have you seen him?”

“Not since last night, I’m afraid,” the female threehorn replied. “Did you check with Mr. Longneck?”

“Yes, I checked everywhere! Every tree, every family, every boulder, and even that waterfall!”

“Well, that doesn’t sound too good…”

“What are you doing here!?!?”

That loud familiar out burst caught the red flyer off guard as he fell onto his back due to the utter shock. He turned his head, only to come face to face, I mean literally, face to face with the last threehorn he would want to see on Earth. “Do you honestly think that just because you’re allowed back in the valley means you could come and taunt my wife?!?” Mr. Threehorn growled.

“Topsy!” Tria snapped, pushing the older threehorn away from the worried flyer. “There’s no use in yelling. He’s just trying to find his son!”

“Or maybe he’s kidnapped his own son and trying to find away to frame someone else for that! Just like he kidnapped Ducky and nearly got her killed!” he turned his head towards Pterano. “Isn’t that right, old flyer?”

“Topsy, you’re really getting on my nerves right now…”

“I’m serious, Tria! I saw him plotting with that dreaded pink flyer!”

Tria growled in anger towards her husband. She loved him, but man! He was seriously a pain in the butt to live with. “Topsy, you just have to accuse everyone of something you don’t even know about, don’t you?!?”

“Yes!-“The black threehorn stopped right there, realizing what he had just said. For once, he was at loss for words as Tria continued to glare at him.

“That’s what I thought…” she muttered before turning back to the tired flyer. “Just ignore him. He’s…having a very bad day.”

“I could tell that already,” Pterano shot at the threehorn, immediately earning a growl from him.

“Look, why don’t you go tell your mate what’s been happening and just relax for a little bit. You look tired.” She told him softly. “And I’ll call a meeting. Maybe then, we could figure out what’s happened to your son.”

Pterano nodded politely at her, thankful she was around to stop Mr. Threehorn from killing him. He took off to the skies immediately after.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Whoa! Mr. Threehorn really does hate Pterano's guts. :lol Good thing Tria was there.
Okay, maybe it's not as long, but like I said way before, short chapter is better than no chapter at all.

Hm, good chapter. Yes, Topsy isn't very fond of Pterano, it's a shame really.

Anyway, nice chapter, and I hope to see the next one up soon.

Well folks, here da next chapter! Wow, two chapters in one day...

------------------------------------------------------------------

Whodunit?

That sunset, everyone in the Great Valley met up at the Stone Arch, just as planned by Tria. Grandpa Longneck announced Devon’s disappearance causing the valley to whisper in utter shock.

“I say Pterano’s just trying to fiddle with our minds.” Mr. Threehorn was the first to speak up, sending the old flyer a dirty glare. “Just like last time, right Pterano?”

Pterano just growled in return. He was so tired of Mr. Threehorn accusing him all the time. “I would never do such a thing!” he shot at the old threehorn.

“Mr. Threehorn, this is no time to accuse!” Grandpa Longneck snapped firmly, then his eyes softened. “Please keep in mind that your daughter was one of the children he saved from the swimming sharptooth. At least show a little respect.”

That caught the old threehorn off guard. He totally forgot about what had happened when Littlefoot and his friends came back to the Great Valley, the smiles on their faces…yet sadness in their eyes. He sighed, taking a baby step backwards.

“Now Pterano.” Grandpa Longneck continued, all eyes on the red flyer. “Tell us where you last saw your son.”

Pterano sighed. “He was in my cave, sleeping.”

“And you never saw him after that?”

“I’m afraid not, sir.” Pterano hung his head low, hoping, praying that wherever his son was right now, Devon was okay.

“Did you check your sister’s cave?” Grandpa Longneck asked, giving the older flyer an idea.

Petrie landed in front of his uncle, facing the elder longneck. “No, he wasn’t there either.”

The circle was interrupted when a shadow swooped over the uncle and nephew, landing next to them. “A missing flyer, you might say?” Rinkus reported. “I think I may have seen something like that…I think…”

And all of a sudden, Pterano was filled with hope as his eyes widened, a small, hopeful smile formed across his face. Rinkus, how can I ever repay you? “What did you see?”

“Well, I’m not sure what I saw cause I was still very sleepy when it happened.” Rinkus told him, rubbing the back of his head. “But I could’ve swarn I saw some other flyer take your son away.”

That earned gasps from the valley as well as Pterano himself. He placed two desperate hands on Rinkus’ shoulders. “What color was he?”

“Umm…I’m not sure if I can remember that detail…”

“Just try,” the red flyer urged.

“…Well…I think the flyer was brown…” Pterano pulled back, gritting his teeth in anger. He only knew one brown flyer that would go as far as kidnap his son…or any body else for that matter. Sierra. He was sure of it. But then again, another thought hit him. Sierra disowned Devon years ago, why would he kidnap his former son? “Or he could’ve been gray…I think it was the same flyer I saw taking to a bunch of sharpteeth yesterday-“the pink flyer was interrupted when Pterano rammed into him by the shoulders, pinning him against a boulder.

“You WHAT?!?” the red flyer exclaimed, glaring at him. “Mr. Rinkus, WHY didn’t you tell me?”

“I…I uhh…I dunno…I umm…” was all Rinkus managed to spit out.

“Pterano!” Grandpa Longneck snapped at the deranged flyer. “We won’t get anywhere by yelling!”

Pterano took a deep breath to calm himself down. He knew Grandpa Longneck was right. He let go of his grip on the pink flyer. “I’m sorry, Mr. Rinkus, but this is my son we’re talking about!” he sighed again, much calmer now. “Now, Mr. Rinkus, would you at least point out which direction this flyer took my son?”

“Umm…I think he went that way.” The pink flyer pointed towards Threehorn Peak. “But I’m not sure, I was sleepy…”

That earned gasps from the circle as they whispered silently to eachother. “Well, if that’s so,” Grandpa Longneck announced calmly. “I fear we may have to search for Pterano’s son in the Mysterious Beyond.”

Of course, that earned more gasps from circle, only this time, you could actually hear what they’re whispering…if you listen closely.

“Is he crazy? I’m not going back there.”

“Yeah, we’ll only get ourselves killed!”

Mr. Threehorn was the first to speak. “Oh, no! Not this threehorn!” he growled. “Look, it’s not our fault Pterano was too stupid to locate his own son!”

Pterano face palmed in disappointment. And here comes the argument, as usual. He took off into the sky, not wanting to hear any of this nonsense.

“Hey Uncle!” Petrie shouted after the older flyer, taking off after him, soaring at his fastest to catch up with his uncle. “Wait up!”

****

Pterano landed in his cave, kicking out dirt into the wall. “Just for once, can’t they cope without arguing?”

“Uncle?” Petrie landed behind the red flyer. “Is everything…okay?” the young flyer nearly slapped himself. Is everything okay? Of course not! His son just got kidnapped for crying out loud!

Pterano just sighed in response. “I hope so…” he muttered, much to his nephew’s surprise.

“I’m sorry, Uncle.” Petrie tried to make his uncle feel better, only to feel a fatherly hand rest on his shoulder.

“It’s not your fault.” Pterano told the kid softly. “If anything, I should be the one to blame. I should’ve kept a good eye on him…” he trailed off. Where there’s a Rinkus, there’s definitely a Sierra… he finished in his mind. “I’ve got to find him…”

Petrie’s eyes widened at his uncle’s decision. “Uncle! That’s crazy! You can’t go out there alone! It’s dangerous!” as if on cue, a lightning bolt shot in the sky. “Speaking of danger…”

“Petrie, I can’t just wait here forever.” The red flyer stepped forth to the cave opening.

Just then, Petrie thought of the craziest thing…”Then I’m coming with you.” He stated firmly, hardening his eyebrows.

“No Petrie, it’s too dangerous.” The red flyer told his nephew, before spreading his wings.

No sooner than this, a loud roar shook the land, causing Petrie to scream and bolt himself under Pterano's wing. “What was that?”

Pterano stared into the distance, eyes widened in fright and loss for words. “I’m not sure, nephew…”

------------------------------------------------------------

Ha! How's that for suspense! Coolness, eh?

Enjoy.

I've been asleep bro :lol

Anyway, I really like this chapter. It's good that you're kind of leaving it open ended as to Mr. Threehorn. Does he know whats going on? Is he a part of it? We don't know yet, which is some nice mystery.

Really like that Petrie wants to go on an adventure with his new dad.

Actually, since Pterano is now after Sierra, your leaving it all open-ended. It COULD have been him all along as well, but we don't know.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

Yeah I'm sorry for the slowness, but I find it very difficult to just keep up with a chapter a day, much less TWO chapters a day. I have a lot going on in my life right now, and I can't always get to chapters if they're posted in rapid succession.

With that said though, I have caught up. I see you borrowed a chapter title of mine. ;) I'm getting similar vibes here too with Devon's disappearance, though of course, there are different villains in this story. :)

Yeah, I'm wondering about Mr. Threehorn myself... he was all anti-evil at first, but now he's acting as if he might be in cahoots.

And what the HECK is that noise? A sharptooth? Something worse (not sure what's worse in this universe, but I guess we'll find out)?

Anyways, I HAVE finally caught up. Sorry again it took so long.

Okay, folks! Here's chapter nine. It's friggin epic!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Sharpteeth in the Great Valley

Pterano took off into the air towards the roar. “Stay here, Petrie!” he shouted at his nephew that was about to take off after him.

“But I wanna help!” Petrie protested, still spreading his wings.

“I don’t want your help! I want you safe!” with that being said, Pterano ascended towards the roar before his nephew could protest any further.

****

Pterano soared above the trees, keeping a good eye out for sharpteeth or whatever it was that made that horrifying roar. He knew it was most likely a sharptooth of some sort because well…nothing can roar as loud or as terrifying as a sharptooth can. But why would they be in the valley? Especially after all that hard work and muscle he and the valley put into that rock wall? Was there some sort of flaw to it that Pterano never noticed? What ever it was, that sharptooth wasn’t going to stay in the valley for long, Pterano was certain of it.

Just then, he spotted a black figure in the trees below him. He couldn’t tell exactly what it was, for it was too small for him to recognize. But he could tell by the creature’s roaring that it had to be sharptooth. So Pterano clenched his fists, straightened his body, and dove beak first towards the creature.

About thirty feet from the ground, he recognized this creature very quickly. It was a very dark color, black almost, along with yellow stripes that fallowed one another down its back. Its eyes shown as red and as fearsome as any and every sharptooth combined. Its teeth were sharper than any of modern day’s sharpest knives. They were so sharp; they could rip through a dinosaurs flesh without any problem at all.

This creature wasn’t like any other sharptooth. It may have had small arms, but its nails were half as long as a modern day twelve inch ruler and just as sharp as its teeth.

This creature was a mega biter. It may have been half the size of an average ordinary sharptooth, but it was a lot smarter than one. So smart, it was ranked as the Mysterious Beyond’s most dangerous predator, way more dangerous than Red Claw. If a mega biter and Red Claw got into a fight, the mega biter would definitely win. In fact, it could easily take on even the biggest longneck.

Pterano noticed that this mega biter was snapping its jaws at a familiar purple flyer that was backed up against a tree, trying not to get eaten. He recognized her in a jiffy. “Haylie!” he gasped, immediately flying to her rescue.

He bolted in front of his mate, punching the mega biter in the nose, causing it to lift its head back into the air and roared in pain. “Haylie, run!” he commanded, looking at her firmly. “RUN!!” With that, he shot himself into the air.

“Hey, DUMMY!!!!” the red flyer bursted at the mega biter, causing it to turn its enormous head towards him. “You missed a spot!!” he punched the mega biter in the nostrils, causing it to wiggle its nose uncomfortably.

The creature shook its head, now focused all on Pterano, who led it into the trees.

He perched himself on a tree branch, waiting for the mega biter to show up. Of course, he didn’t have to wait very long, because the mega biter was below him about two seconds after he landed.

Knowing what to do, the red flyer swooped down, lunging at the mega biter. But unlike any other sharpteeth he tried to use this trap on, there was a flaw to it.

The mega biter was too smart for this kind of trap. Upon hearing the tree branch silently snap, it turned his head towards the red flyer and opened its jaws, preparing to taste the first part of its dinner. Pterano noticed this immediately and tried to escape the snap, but he was too close and…

Snap! The mega biter closed its jaws and the red flyer was no longer visible.

“DAADDD!!!!!!!!!” Devon screamed at the top of his lungs as he landed on the ground, too late to save his father, but just in time to see what had just happened.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Short, but as was said before, FRIGGIN EPIC!!

Embrace the epicness!!!

So, Pterano's gonna open his jaws again, superman style? I loved this short chapter! I really liked the action, even though it was a bit over the top.

Sorry for short review, but it goes with short chapter :p

Huh... so Devon just sort of shows up? So he wasn't taken by somebody then? So if Sierra didn't take him... then I wonder where he's been.

Well, looks like Pterano is in danger of getting swallowed alive. Hopefully it'll be like Ichy in my story, where he wasn't actually bitten, he's just inside the mouth.
This chapter was pretty short, and I was sort of hoping for more, but it wasn't bad either. It did have good action.

One thing I WILL say though, because I keep noticing that you do this. It's "followed", with an O, not A. "Fallowed" is like... ground that hasn't been broken up for farming as far as I know. :lol

But yeah, short, intense, action packed, and I wonder where the HECK Devon came from! The mystery thickens...

Finally! It's done! Chapter ten is done!

------------------------------------------------------------

Sharpteeth in the Great Valley Part Two

The mega biter, upon hearing Devon’s cry, lunged at full speed towards the blue flyer. Devon tried to make a run for it but he felt two arms throw themselves around his neck, keeping him in a firm grip. “I told you to stay in the mountains and you disobeyed me!” Sierra scolded in his ear. He turned to the monster before him.” He’s all yers, giganto! Come and git ëem!”

As the mega biter stepped closer, Devon closed his eyes, bracing himself. By now, the dreaded monster was so close to the blue flyer, he could almost reach its leg as it lowered its head to consume him when…

Its jaws began to lift…and it wasn’t the mega biter…

The jaws lifted higher and higher until they began to reveal a red flyer, lifting with his all his strength. “Don’t you dare harm my son!” Pterano growled, trying his best not to let go.

“Dad!!” Devon shouted out with happiness.

With one last heroic effort, Pterano gave the mega biter’s jaws one last push before shooting himself out of the monster’s mouth. But he wasn’t fast enough as the mega biter gripped his wing with its teeth, shaking the red flyer rapidly and forcefully like a dog would do to a chew toy. The monster released its teeth, sending the flyer into a great big tree.

Pterano fell to the ground in deep pain, coughing out his own blood. He cried out in pain, noticing that blood has been spilled on his wings, stomach and chest and a scratch that stretched all the way form his elbow to his wrist, cutting deep into his skin.

“DAAADDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Devon shouted at the top of his lungs as he tried to rush to his fallen father’s side, but it proved to be useless, for Sierra just held him back, pointing a sharp rock towards his throat.

Devon’s cry snapped Pterano from his groaning. The red flyer snapped his head up to see the mega biter hover over him, smirking the evilest smirk that sent chills down Pterano's spine. Pterano’s heart pounded in his chest as he watched fearfully and helplessly as the monster lowered its head eye level with the red flyer. Pterano flinched as he felt its enormous tongue lick all over his body. The monster opened its jaws and prepared to consume its first appetizer of the night as Pterano prepared himself for impact…

The mega biter pulled back up, for something was practically pecking its eye out. “Leave my uncle alone, you bastard!” Petrie screeched angrily, releasing his claw on the monster’s eye.

The monster held its eye as it roared in pain before snapping its jaws at the little flyer. Pterano gasped at the sight. “Petrie!” he managed to call out despite the pain it sent to his lungs. He tried to fly up and help his nephew as well, but his body was in too much pain. All he could do was watch worriedly, helplessly as the mega biter was about to practically swallow the young flyer alive…

A tree sweet landed in its face, causing it to flinch uncomfortably.

Haylie faced the mega biter with a couple of tree sweets in her hand. “Get away from him!” she shouted, throwing a tree sweet into the monster’s mouth, causing it to gawk in pain. Hot tears formed in its eyes as the taste was too horrible for it to comprehend.

Without hesitation, the mega biter made a run for it as Sierra watched helplessly, gasping. “No!” he wailed as Devon struggled in his grip. “What are you doing?!?!? FINISH HIM!!!! NO!!!”

But the creature just ignored him as it bolted out of the forest. If it wasn’t covering his eyes, the mega biter would have spotted that there was a cliff ahead of it. So the creature plummeted to its death four hundred feet below.

Sierra growled, tightening his grip on Devon. “No!!! You monsters!!” he glared at Haylie and Petrie then he smirked. “Alright now, you kids had your fun. Now it’s my turn!” he brought the sharp rock to Devon’s throat, cutting it into his skin, creating a scratch that stretched from his beak to his neck ring. “Now he dies!” he chuckled evilly. “Say goodbye to your little friend.” he held the sharp rock against Devon’s neck, ready to give the final blow…

Darn it, you just had to spoil the secret in the description you put up in the fanfiction awards post! So both Cera's siblings, and Sierra are in on it? THAT'S interesting! I wonder if a certain flyer is going to betray some threehorns

Yeah, the action in this scene was awesome! Your getting better at it! Sorry about what I said earlier, too.

And I think Petrie should get his mouth washed out with soap and water :lol  That's what my Mom used to say when I cussed.

And like I said, I'll write a full review for this in the GoF Fanfiction Awards after you finish the story.

Um, Jared, don't take this the wrong way, but don't you think you might be taking this fanfic a little too seriously? I mean, I don't think it's a bad story at all, but isn't that kind of an extreme reaction to a plot point?

Now if you excuse me, ONTO CHAPTER ELEVEN!!!!!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Fight to the Death

"Say goodbye to yer little friend..."

Devon gritted his teeth, gazing at his beaten father. Fear, grief, anger mixed together in one big emotional headache. And yet somehow, those emotions managed to give the blue flyer all the energy he needed. It was as though a protective instinct kicked in. He gripped Sierra's arm that still hung around his neck and sunk his teeth into it, causing the brown flyer screetch in agony and let got of him.

Without hesitation, the blue flyer took his chance to rush to his father's aid. He knelt by the half unconscious flyer's side, taking his hand gently. "Dad..."

Pterano breathed heavily, despite the pain it sent to his lungs, and opened his eyes halfway. "Devon..." Pterano whispered, only to cough out more blood.

"Oh, Dad...I can't believe he did this to you..." the blue flyer drifted off, tears forming in his eyes. He hated seeing his beloved father like this. It pained him too much.

He got back on his feet as anger began to take over. He faced his former father that he hated so much, even more now for hurting Pterano. "You...YOU HURT HIM!!!!!!" Devon growled, taking out his claws. "Mom, Petrie, get my dad to a safer place. I'll take care of this clown."

"But Devon-" Haylie protested, or at least tried to as Devon cut her off.

"Mom, do as I say!"

She would have protested even farther, for she didn't want to leave her son to this...creep. But she didn't want to endanger her mate either, she grabbed the unconscious Pterano's good arm and pulled him to his feet. "Come along Petrie."
With that the two headed for the woods.

Devon nodded at the two flyers before turning towards Sierra. They soon ended up circling eachother. "So, Devon." The brown flyer started, smirking evilly.

"Sierra." Devon simply replied, remaining calm and firm.

"It's been a while, hasn't it, boy? Did you miss me?"

"I missed kicking your scrawny tail, does that count?"

"Oh ho ho...fiesty..." Sierra chuckled. "Did Pterano teach you that?"

"Yes, yes he did." Devon looked up to the cloudy yet starry night sky. "Shall we take this to the skies?"

"Gladly." With that being said, the two flyers shot themselves into the air, Devon flying up first, fallowed by Sierra, only to get punched in the side of the beak.

The brown flyer was sent flying back, but not far. Because he just regained balance and lunged for Devon, allowing his anger to take over. "Why you little-!"

The blue flyer dodged the blow and Sierra caught nothing but air. "Whoa, dude!" Devon chuckled. "What happened to you? Did my dad knock you out real good or something?"

"Shut up and fight, you coward!" Sierra shouted as he lunged for his former son once more, only to ram into mid air.

"Whoa! And I thought I was the slowpoke!" Devon laughed again. "Either I must've gotten better at this since our last fight or...you suck!"

Just then, Sierra lunged into him; he hit him this time, knocking him into a higher altitude. This caught Devon off guard, but he regained his flight. "Oh, you wanna fight, old dino? Then..." he paused, clenching his fists and puffed out his chest. "Let's fight." With a loud cry, Devon hurtled towards the brown flyer, sending him towards the ground. "That's for my father!"

The two hurtled for eachother, colliding right after, throwing blows, scratches, kicks, anything that would help them survive throughout the fight. De ja vu happened in Sierra's mind as thunder struck the sky, catching them off guard, sending them towards the ground.

Devon landed on his stomach in the stone cold ground with hard impact, coughing out blood. It took a few tries to get up on his feet, despite the pain it sent to his back.

"Now why does this look familiar?"

Devon whirled around at the cool Texan accent that he immediately recognized. Sierra smirked at him evilly, sending a chill down his spine. "Oh yes, now I remember," he chuckled darkly. "It's just the way your 'father' looked before I stabbed him." Devon breathed heavily as that harsh memory began to take over.

Flashback

"PTERANO, LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!!!!!"

Shocked by the sudden outburst, Pterano turned his head in the direction it came from to see a familiar blue flyer flying towards him at full speed. "Devon-AHHH!!!!!" he screamed in sharp pain ran straight through his back, sinking onto his knees. Sierra pulled out the bloody rock, chuckling evilly.

"NOOO!!!!!" Devon shouted, trying to fly faster.

End flashback

Devon snapped his eyes open, heart pounded in his chest. He hated that memory. He could still feel the rain hitting his eyes as he soared hard in the sky that morning. He could still smell the blood Pterano's wound shed. He could still taste the hot tears that streamed down his cheeks that night. He really wished that he could simply make the memory disappear from his mind forever.

"I know, horrible, right?" Sierra foretold, slapping Devon's beak, sending the blue flyer into a tree. "Now its yer turn." he brought up a sharp rock, which strangely seemed to reveal a small drop of blood on the side of it. Seeing this, Devon couldn't help but think, This must be the rock he used to nearly kill Pterano... "Oh yer father will be so heartbroken. But that's the fun part of it." He snickered darkly. "Too bad he couldn't be here to protect you." He pointed the rock towards Devon's throat. "Say goodnight, pretty boy."

Devon closed his eyes, preparing for impact. Please forgive me, Dad...

--------------------------------------------------------------

Pterano snapped his eyes open due to the thunder that struck the sky. He then noticed that his forehead was wet. He looked up to see his mate pressing a wet treestar to his forehead. "Haylie...?" he whispered weakly.

"Hey Ronnie," the purple flyer asked softly. "Are you feeling any better?"

"Yeah...a little..." he drifted off, noticing that he felt a little warmth on his good arm. That "little wamth" appeared to be Petrie, dozing off all tucked under his arm. Pterano chuckled softly, smiling proudly at his young nephew. Then he frowned, suddenly remembering about his son.

He gasped. "Devon!" He exclaimed, stumbling to his feet, immediately waking Petrie. "I have to save him!"

He was about to take off when Haylie grabbed onto his wing. "Pterano no! It's too dangerous!"

"Yeah, and that's my son out there!" he protested to feel a small hand touch his, causing him to look down.

"Please don't go, Uncle." Petrie begged sleepily, staring up at his uncle with pleading eyes. Pterano hesitated a bit, his eyes softening. He kneeled down by his nephew.

"It'll only be a few hours, Petrie. I'll be fine," He smiled softly at his worried nephew. "I promise." The uncle and nephew gazed into eachother's eyes for a few meaningful moments; Pterano could see the moonlight shining in Petrie's. Pterano stiffened his look and stood on his feet. Without looking back, the red flyer took off to the sky.

------------------------------------------------------------------

So there you go kids. Uh oh! Poor Devon! Let's all hope Pterano could get to him in time.

Enjoy.

Well, looks like Devons in a bit of a pickle, eh?

Just have a few minor things that I saw, but nothing that I really need to rant about.

Yeah, that's it. :p

Great chapter, quite action-packed thew fight between Sierra and Devon. The more this goes on, the more I wanna punch Sierra in the face. Show him a thing or two.

Can't wait for the next update! ;)

Oh! I didn't see that! Thanks LBTDiclonius and I'm glad you liked the fight between Sierra and Devon. Took me a while to write that part.

You're not the only one bad at reviewing :) Meant to get to this too. Yeah, you're doing the cliff hanger thing again but I'm going to guess that Devon will be ok because Pterano's going to get there just in the nick of time...right?

And of course I'm a sucker for anything that shows Petrie's sweet little character and so his plea was just too cute and touching!

Will this story be done any time soon? I'm just wanted to know, because I'm holding off writing a review of this for the Fanfiction Awards because I'd rather review a complete story.

Hi there! Me again. This chapter took a long time to write. A part of it took all my energy to write, I mean literally! I felt as though I had ran a friggin mile! Sheesh!

Any way, here's chapter twelve.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Fight to the Death Part Two

Pterano soared through the sky, completely aware of the upcoming storm. It was dark now, darker than it had been before. Black clouds now filled the sky, plunging the land into utter darkness. The only blaze left was the lightning that flashed in the sky every now and then.

Pterano passed the rock pile that he and the herd built to keep the sharpteeth away. But it turned out that the sharpteeth must have found a way to break the rock pile and broke into the valley. So there it lay, squashed to the ground like a poor helpless insect as rocks scattered everywhere.

Just then, Pterano managed to spot a figure in the woods...fighting off a sharptooth? Pterano guessed, as it was too dark to recognize. To solve the mystery, Pterano flew to a lower altitude, hoping by some miracle it was Devon.

But apparently the figure was not Devon as it turned out to be a threehorn…three of them, to be exact, fighting off a sharptooth he directly recognized; Red Claw. Pterano also recognized the first threehorn fairly easily, as he turned out to be none other than Mr. Threehorn. He was with a couple of youngsters, but not one of them was Cera. And yet, he couldn’t figure out why those youngsters looked very familiar to him.

To take a closer look, the red flyer dove into the trees. He stopped dead in his tracks as his past came back to him in one frightening flashback.

Lightning flashed in the sky and red swept over the land. The smell of dinosaur blood filled the air. A blend of roars of sharpteeth and screams of surviving dinosaurs echoed through the air. Pterano remembered it all; the rockslide, the candy striped sharpteeth, the screams, the blood, the horror.

Just then, his mind came across another flashback that caught him off guard. He stood on the ledge, helplessly watching as the poor dinoes surrounding him became dinner. His heart pounded as thought it wanted to hop out of his chest. He turned his head to the left, and then to the right and out of the corner of his eye…

He spotted a couple of young threehorns, a green female one and a purple male one. They gazed at him with most pleading eyes. He recognized those poor young threehorns in a flash.

Pterano snapped his eyes open as his mind returned to reality. He noticed that he was falling to the ground for he was too captivated by his own past to continue flying. He quickly regained his flight as a bolt of energy went straight through his body. Stiffening his eyebrows, he shot himself back into the air. I will not leave you, Layla. Not. This Time.

Red Claw opened his jaws to take a bite out of Mr. Threehorn but the old dino used his tail to slap the deranged sharptooth, causing him to lift his head back into the air and let out a cry...when a vine wrapped itself around its neck. Mr. Threehorn and the youngsters turned their horned heads in the direction the vine came from to see the last dino on earth they would expect to see holding the end of the vine.

The three of them dropped their jaws for they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Mr. Threehorn was shocked, but the youngsters were in complete awe. “Pterano?” Jordan managed to whisper.

Red Claw shook his head furiously, swinging Pterano all over the air. The red flyer held on with a good grip, despite the pain it sent to his broken wrist. With a final jerk of the head, the vine broke around Red Claw’s neck, therefore, sending the red flyer into the air.

Pterano regained his flight and lunged head first towards the green sharptooth. He landed on his stomach on the sharptooth’s back, tightly wrapping his arms as far as he could around Red Claw’s neck. “Layla! Jordan!! RUN!!!!!!” the red flyer screamed at the top of his lungs.

Before making a run for it, Mr. Threehorn and his kids still stared up at the Pterano in utter shock. Mr. Threehorn was suddenly filled with nothing but utter respect for the brave flyer as his children still couldn’t believe their eyes. Then all of a sudden, Layla and Jordan were filled with guilt. They were a part of this mess. The kidnapping of Devon, the sharpteeth in the Great Valley, the mega biter…was all their doing; all just to gain revenge. If only they had refused to help Mr. Sierra on this…

Mr. Threehorn nudged his children ahead of him as they galloped out of there, leaving Pterano with the sharptooth…and something else…

Pterano let go of Red Claw’s neck, bolting into the air as Red Claw snapped his jaws at the aging flyer. The red flyer dodged and a tree sweet splashed in Red Claw’s face, causing him to cry out due to the pain in his eyes. “Hey you! Yeah you! Over here!”

Pterano turned his head towards the familiar British accent to see none other than…”Rinkus!”

“Pterano, go help your son! I’ll handle this!” the pink flyer howled, throwing another tree sweet at Red Claw’s face.

The red flyer just stared at his once comrade with an unsure look. “Just go! I’ll be fine!” Rinkus told him reassuringly, earning a small smile from Pterano.

He was about to make a run for it, but stopped and turned back to the pink flyer. “Mr. Rinkus?”

“Yeah,” he responded.

“Thank you.” Pterano smiled respectfully. Rinkus smiled back as the two remained in an appreciative silence for one another. They nodded at eachother before Pterano bolted into the distance, never looking back.

Rinkus just watched as he did so before turning back to Red Claw. “Good luck…” he muttered silently when Red Claw snapped his jaws at him, catching him off guard. He was about to tumble to the ground but he caught his balance just in time. “Oh what? You want some more of this, rubber butt?” he threw a tree sweet at Red Claw’s face. “Well, you got it!” he threw another one into Red Claw’s eyes and that pretty much did the trick as the frightened sharptooth stomped his way out of the Great Valley and into the Mysterious Beyond, never to be seen again. “And there’s plenty of more where that came from!” Rinkus shouted after the sharptooth, he chuckled, landing on a branch. “Well that was easier than I thought.”

****

Pterano soared at full speed, desperately searching through the stormy night, hoping to he wasn’t too late. Lightning flashed in the sky, causing Pterano to fly to a lower altitude. Right above the trees, Pterano spotted a blue spot on the ground. Was it a flyer?

Oh it was a flyer all right, and it didn’t look very good. Pterano landed next to a tree, taking a closer look at this flyer. The flyer was a mess; scratches stretching from elbow to wrist, maybe even longer. Bruises appeared on his face, and two scratch marks appeared on his neck. It only took one lightning flash to recognize this flyer. “Devon!!!”

Pterano immediately rushed to his son’s side, taking him into his arms. A few moments of silence passed as the red flyer hoped Devon would just open his eyes. But no luck whatsoever. “Devon?...Devon?...” his voice began to crack as he realized that Devon wasn’t breathing. Tears poured down the old flyer’s face as he held the boy close to his chest, crying his heart out into his head for a while…

Until he felt a hand grip his tightly.

Pterano lifted his head to see that the hand belonged to Devon. The young flyer opened his eyes slightly, gazing up at his beloved father. “Please don’t cry, Daddy…” was all he could mutter before slipping back into unconsciousness.

A great relief washed over Pterano as he held the boy close. “Oh thank goodness…” he sobbed, kissing the boy’s forehead before resting his cheek protectively on his head, holding him tighter than he held anyone before.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Whew! What a relief! Did anybody think that Devon was actually dead?

Enjoy. :smile

PS. That last bit with Pterano and Devon was inspired by the song, "A Boy I Never Knew" by The Cure. It's a very emotional father son song.

Seriously, guys. Waiting is not as easy as it looks.

Is this chapter really that bad?

Well, I have not yet read any of the other chapters in this story yet, so I can’t make any connections to what has taken place previously. My reviews take me hours. I have too much to say to make quick responses, but if you really need reassurance post haste on this chapter, I’ll try to take it as an independent read and see what I can put together in just a couple of minutes.

A semicolon has two uses, and I didn’t notice either of the criteria for any of the ones in this chapter. The semicolon is used to separate two independent clauses (a section of a sentence that can act as an entire sentence) from each other that are not combined with a coordinating conjunction (and, so, but, or, nor, yet, for). As for the other reason, not a huge amount know of it, as it rarely ever comes into play. The second use of a semicolon is to separate items in a list that have commas in the items themselves. For example:

I am going to eat: chocolate, my favorite food; lettuce, something my body needs; and anything spicy I can find.
____________________________________________________________________
You describe scenes very well. They are therefore easy to not only picture but to hear in the mind as well. You don’t need much time to create emotion, which is a gift. You combine action and surprise for an engaging experience. You keep characters fresh but believable. You can instill fear, but at times, you may be ending it too quickly for someone’s heart to be gripped very tightly. You are able to make readers assume something while going in a different direction to keep things unexpected, like by saying at first that there are threehorns with Mr. Threehorn but later saying none of them are Cera. So in a short chapter, you’ve created action, suspense, worry, fear, grief, admiration, and love.

Good job, and please don’t think my reviewing is really of such poor quality. I write very thorough ones, but you seemed distressed about the waiting gap, so I thought it best to quickly throw something together.

Hooray! Rinkus stopped red claw with the treesweets!! He's got great throwing and aiming skills, too! :) I loved that part!

And Pterano found Devon. and Devon's ok. I really hope his scratches and bruises will heal, though.  :(

But still, i'm very happy that Pterano and Devon are together once again. Chapter 12 was really good.  :yes

I can tell you that it be not bad, some people are just too lazy to review sometimes. Don't worry. ;) And yes, waiting for feedback is very hard indeed.

And now...for the review.

Oh shnap! Layla, Jordan, and Mr. Threehorn kind of like Pterano now, that's good. And what's this? The two hatchlings were with Sierra? Something tells me that can't be good.

Nice to hear that Devon's alive. So sweet. :)

Nice chapter, and I hope to see the next one up soon.

At this point, not really. You've already almost killed off Pterano twice now. (One time, it was even for a couple chapters, to keep us wondering.) Don't want to be sadistic or anything, but I hope one of these life-or-death cliffhangers actually ends badly for once. THAT would surprise me!

Other than that, I laughed at the giant sharptooth being an idiot and falling to his death.

The fight scene was EXCITING at least, which I always like!

Finally! A new chapter is done! Here's chapter thirteen everyone.

----------------------------------------------------------

The Final Showdown

Pterano sat in his cave next to his unconscious son. He just hung his head in shame, not shamed of Devon, but shamed of himself. This is all my fault, he thought to himself. If only I had been there like a real father would. Oh Devon, please forgive me…

“Dad?”

That recognizable whisper snapped him out of his thoughts as he wasted no time kneeling by his son’s side, taking his hand as he did so. “How’re you feeling?”

“Okay, I guess.” He lowered his eyes, taking a sigh of disappointment. “I’m sorry I couldn’t-“

“No, no, no,” Pterano cut him off, rubbing his hand gently. “I’m sorry. I should have been there for you, not laying around like a coward.”

Devon chuckled weakly. “Dad, don’t be so hard on yerself. It’s not your fault. You were hurt!” Pterano just sighed in a disappointed yet comforted response as Devon gripped his hand tighter. “Hey, it doesn’t matter anymore. We’re together now, you see? That’s all that really matters…”

Pterano smiled lovingly at his son, bending down to nuzzle the blue flyer’s beak affectionately. “You and your way with words, I’m so proud of you, Devon.” He gave him a kiss to the forehead.

“Thanks, Dad…”his voice drifted off as the father and son smiled at eachother for a meaningful moment. Pterano then frowned, realizing that if he doesn’t stop Sierra soon, he’s bound to kill someone Pterano loves. Of course the first logical option was to stay in the cave to be with his son, but his son was almost killed. Pterano wouldn’t be able to live with himself if something bad had happened to Devon.

The blue flyer noticed Pterano's gesture, he stared up at him with pleading eyes. “Dad, what’s wrong?” he asked in a soft voice.

“There’s…something I need to take care of. I’ll be right back…I hope.” Pterano replied as his voice drifted off. Now Devon realized what Pterano was talking about as he gripped his hand even tighter.

“Wait, you’re leaving?” the blue flyer pleaded as you could easily tell by his eyes that he wanted so badly for Pterano to stay.

“Just for a little while. I shan’t be gone long, I promise.”

“No! I won’t let you leave. I can’t. I need you, Dad!” Devon pleaded as tears began to form in his eyes. “I want you to be with me…”
Pterano sniffed, placing a hand on his son’s cheek. “Oh Devon, of course I will. Even if you can’t see me…” he gave him another kiss to the forehead. “I love you, my son.” With that being said, Pterano took off into the stormy skies, ready to face the flyer that he now hated most.

****

Lightning flashed in the sky as Sierra lurked in the woods, trying to come up with a better plan. “Stupid Rinkus…stupid mega biter…” he muttered to himself, kicking dirt around. “Why does everyone have to foil my plan?”

A lightning bolt lit the atmosphere as Sierra could have sworn he saw a figure in the trees. He wondered if it was his imagination, or just some tickly fuzzy in the trees. It was too dark to recognize. He took a wet tree sweet from a tree and stuffed it in his mouth. He dropped what’s left of the tree sweet to the ground as he saw the figure again. It wasn’t his imagination, and it definitely wasn’t a tickly fuzzy. It was something else.

“Who are you?” he called as fear began to crawl up his spine. “Who’s there?” he received no response, only cold wind blowing through his wings. “Show yourself! Or…or I’m coming in after ya!”

But still the air remained silent around him, save for the thunder and lightning and the wind. At the moment, Sierra was filled with fear for he felt like pray for a sharptooth. Every now and then, he would spot this mysterious figure out of the corner of his eye, but half a millisecond later, the figure would be gone in flash.

Sierra took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, heart pounding in his chest. He took a few steps back to be stopped by a tickling sensation. He gasped in utter fright, moving his arms to touch this sensation. He was so relieved to find out that he had only backed up into a tree; he sighed and closed his eyes. What he didn’t notice was that the figure was beside him as it slowly turned its head towards him. What Sierra heard next nearly made him jump.

“Hello Sierra…did you miss me?” it was a mere whisper, yet sounded very familiar…and it sent chills down Sierra’s spine.

The brown flyer shivered in fright as he slowly turned his head to face whatever had made that mere whisper to be greeted by a red fist to the face. Sierra stumbled back, but caught himself before he could fall on his tail. He brushed himself off as he stood up to face the last dino on planet earth he would want to see.

He smirked evilly as half his fear escaped his body. “Pterano, my old friend, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?” he chuckled. “I’ve gotta say, ya had me for a second there.

“Give me one good reason why I should let you live.” The red flyer growled, taking steps towards his former comrade.

Sierra laughed. “Well Pterano, yer gettin feistier every time I see ya! Funny, I was just talking with Devon-“the brown flyer was pushed against a tree as Pterano held him there.

“You leave my boy out of this!” he snapped, gritting his teeth. “You hurt him badly enough!”

Sierra pushed the red flyer off him. ”Will you ever learn to keep to your own business, Pterano? Seriously! First the stone, then my revenge that was going just fine until you showed up and started corrupting my son-“

Pterano was filled with rage; Corrupting your son? Corrupting your son!? Oh gee, that’s a good one! For your information, Sierra, I’m the one that’s been raising your son! The red flyer slapped him across the beak. “He was never your son in the first place! I’ve cut you lots of slack over the past years but you’ve crossed a line!”

“Oh, did I now?” Sierra chuckled. “Well, you haven’t been such as saint yourself, Pterano.” He was cut off when Pterano punched him in the face.

“Shut up and fight, you coward!” the red flyer growled, getting into a fighting stance. “You’re going to pay for every thing you’ve done to my son.”

Sierra shook his head. “Oh, ho, ho, ho, now am I? Well I guess we’re gonna have to see about that, now aren’t we?” with that being said, Sierra took off into the sky as Pterano fallowed immediately after.

The red flyer appeared out of the tree tops to see absolutely no sign of his former comrade whatsoever. He looked to the left, and then to the right and all of a sudden, he was knocked higher into the air by a brown fist. “All these years and you still haven’t learned this trick.” Sierra chuckled, crossing his arms coolly. “I thought you were smarter than that, Pterano.”

The red flyer regained his flight, brushing a hand across his lower beak to feel a slimy sensation sweep across his claw. He brought up his hand to see a few drops of blood staining his claws. He clenched his fists and lunged for Sierra…only to lung for thin air instead.

Pterano stopped himself before he could plunge into a tree as he again regained his flight, trying to figure out what had just happened. It soon became obvious though. Sierra had dodged the blow.

“Is that the best you can do?” Sierra taunted, fallowed by an evil laugh. “That mega biter musta knocked you out real good.” Pterano cut him off as he lunged at him, knocking him into the ground.

He landed next to his former comrade, kneeling next to him, noticing that he was unconscious. He picked up a sharp rock, pointing it to Sierra’s throat, going for the kill.

About ten to fifteen seconds later, Pterano still held on to the sharp rock. Was he really going to do this? He pondered. And if he did, what would Devon think of him? Would he still except him as a father even though he was a murderer? Pterano had no idea. But he did know one thing:

Devon would be highly disappointed in him if he did.

Pterano dropped the rock, standing up on his feet and took a deep breath, pondering over what he should do with the brown flyer. But there was one flaw Pterano still need to learn. Never let your guard down.

Suddenly a pair of strong brown arms wrapped themselves around Pterano’s neck. “Did you really think that you could get rid of me, Pterano?” Sierra scoffed. “I gotta hand it to ya though, you had me there. You really did.” Sierra brought up the sharp rock and drove across the red flyer’s chest and then up to his neck ring, creating a forty five degree angle. “But not anymore.” He gripped Pterano’s neck and dragged him along the ground, pinning him against a tree. He tightened his grip. “You really shouldn’t have come here.”
he pressed harder as Pterano began to gasp for air. “You would’ve lived through this if you stayed home. Foolish.” Pterano struggled to break free as he began coughing uncontrollably but it proved to be worthless. “Squirm all you’d like. It ain’t gonna do ya any good.”

Lighting struck the tree, catching it on fire as it began to fall to the ground. Sierra immediately let go of Pterano, fleeing to safety.

“UNCLE!! WATCH OUT!!!”

Hearing his nephew’s loud cry, Pterano gathered all of his leftover strength and jumped to safety before the tree finally landed on the ground with a hard thud. He bounced on the wet grass before crashing on his back, coughing out his blood.

“UNCLE!!!” Petrie screamed at the top of his lungs, hopping off a tree branch above and landed beside his wounded uncle. Sierra got up on his feet and made his way towards to two flyers.

Pterano just embraced his nephew, holding him protectively against his chest as he could only watch in fear as Sierra approached them. “D’aww…isn’t that sweet.” The brown flyer mocked. “Like uncle, like nephew, eh? Too bad, I’m gonna have to kill you both.”

Petrie buried his face into his uncle’s chest as Pterano tightened his arms around him, providing a protective shield for him. “Don’t you dare harm my nephew!” he snapped. “He’s too young!”

Sierra rolled his eyes and gawked. “Does this look like the face of someone who cares?” he chuckled evilly. “If he was smart, he wouldn’t have come down here. It’s a shame really, he seemed to be the kind of kid you would want for a son. But…oh well.”

The brown flyer was about to lung for the uncle and nephew when yet another force rammed into him, knocking him to the ground. This time, the force wasn’t a flyer, but a threehorn…a green female threehorn. “Leave them alone, you sick jerk!” Layla shouted as her brother landed beside her.

Sierra gasped, then shrugged it off, standing up on his feet. “So you, too have betrayed me, eh?”

“Come off it, Sierra!” Jordon snapped, getting into a fighting stance. “I’m sick of your dirty lies!”

Sierra gawked in response. “Do I have to kill you guys, too?” he picked up a rock and was about to lung at the young threehorns when an even stronger force rammed into him, swooping him in between the horns, causing him to drop the rock next to Pterano.

“Not while I’m around, you’re not!” Mr. Threehorn roared, gritting his teeth and glaring right into the frightened brown flyer’s eyes. “Take it away, Pterano.”

“Gladly,” Pterano picked up the sharp rock and stood up next to the hanging flyer before him. “This is for my boy.” He whispered darkly in Sierra’s ear before plunging the rock into his back. Mr. Threehorn shook his head, tossing the brown flyer over the cliff.

Too bad for him, it wasn’t a straight fall. He smacked a rock on the way down, bouncing off the sloping sides of the cliff several times before rolling rapidly on the hardest rocks and finally, he slammed into the dead mega biter, his body landing on top of it. Sierra…was no more.

OK, FINALLY managed to catch up with it all.

Jeez, so Sierra's dead? 0_0 Wow, didn't see that one coming. Some pretty good action, and good story too. I take it that was the climax right there, eh? Sierra's been dealt with, for good. The twins have reformed, and even Mr. Threehorn came in.

Glad I finally caught up with this, though it looks like there might not be much for me to correct in terms of future chapters. :p Anyway, the story improved I'd say, even though the beginning wasn't really all that bad. I just think it got better as it went. :)

Like bushwacked already mentioned, pretty intense chapter. Very nice emotions you showed there with Pterano struggling with himself whether or not to kill Sierra, I really liked how strong the bond is between Pterano and Devon, like you said, wondeful father/son couple. :D

After the Storm

Pterano stood on the ledge of the cliff, watching as Sierra made no movement at all. His breath was heavy, his heart was poundinging in his chest as though it wanted to escape his body. His eyes then fixed on the finally fading storm, smirking in success as he stood up in pride.
"Uncle Pterano!!!"

The red flyer turned his head to be greeted by a certain young hatchling throwing his arms around his neck, causing him to collapse to his knees due to the momentum. Without even thinking, Pterano wrapped his arms around the younger flyer's waist, pulling him close. He pressed his nephew tightly against him, never wanting to let go. They stayed that way for what seems like hours, crying silently in great relief.

****

Pterano slowly strolled into his cave, despite the pain it sent to his already battered up body. He took a deep breath, trying to ooze the pain as he stepped closer to the sleeping Devon. He sat down beside the blue flyer, placing a hand upon his shoulder. Devon opened his eyes, gazing at the older flyer. "Dad?" he muttered sleepily.

"How're you feeling, son?" Pterano asked, hoping that his son would be okay.

"Much better..." Devon smirked. "Dang, these treestars do do the trick..."

Pterano chuckled heartily. This boy really knew how to lighten the mood, even in times like these. He laid himself by his son, still patting his shoulder lightly. "So...did you win?" Devon asked.

"Oh Devon...I promise...he won't hurt you ever again." Pterano promised, nuzzling his son gently.

Devon just smiled in response before drifting off into a sleep once again. Pterano, noticing this, bent down and gave him a goodnight kiss on the forehead. He was about to head outside to get fresh air but he was stopped when he realized that Devon never let go of his hand. Pterano chuckled, laying next to him before pulling him into his arms. His spirits lifted when he felt the sleepy young flyer scoot himself closer to his chest, nuzzling him gently. He was so thankful to have such a sweet, innocent, young boy as his son. He fell asleep that way with a smile on his face.

Thanks for the reviews, guys. Anyway, I forgot to tell you, there is only one chapter left in this story. (sigh) It was fun writing this story...

Finally caught up! and yeah, not much to say that hasn't already been said. My favorite part would oddly enough be one of the smaller plot points going on on Jordan and Layla's turn around, and of course Mr. Threehorn for once helpign Pterano, though that pattern probably won't continue ;)

Well too bad only one more chapter but I await that one :DD

Epilogue: Apology

Morning rose over the horizon as Grandpa Longneck called a meeting. The discussion: more protection over the Great Valley...and a few apologies needed to be made. For example, by Grandpa Longneck's orders, Mr. Threehorn definitely owed SOMEONE an apology. The old triceratops stepped forward shyly as Pterano was all ears.

He sighed. "Okay...umm...this isn't going to be easy so I'll cut to the chase. I'm sorry," that earned a warning glare from the apatosaurus beside him as well as from most of the Great Vally. "Okay fine. Pterano...I guess you kinda deserve this..."

"I'm listening," Pterano told him calmly, though it wasn't a statement of him being cocky, it was him listening to his apology and secretly hoping for a better friendship with the old triceratops.

But he was too stubborn for this. "Okay, that's it! I even tried to apologize and you're just treating me like an eggstealer!" he snapped at the red pteranodon before him. "Well, I oughtta-"SLAP!! The tail whip came from Grandpa Longneck, who glared at him angrily. "Ow! Okay! Okay! Sheesh! Bossy longneck!" He sighed, trying to find the right words so he DOESN'T get slapped again. "Pterano...I know I have been a bit too rough on you-"

"A bit?" Tria asked as she halted beside him, also listening to his apology.

"Tria, do you mind? Here I am trying my best to apologize and THAT is NOT easy to do!"
Yet another slap came from the longneck beside him. He glared up at him with a "What did I do now?" look while the longneck just returned a look that clearly said, "Do as you're told."

"Okay, way too rough on you." He gave his wife an 'Is that better?" look before turning back to the red flyer. "You didn't deserve that, in fact you didn't deserve any of the critizism I gave you during your stay. I guess I should have just been grateful that...if it wasn't for you, my little Cera wouldn't be here with us...and neither would I. And I couldn't be more grateful for that, so thank you, Pterano...for all you've done for this valley...And I'm sorry for accusing you of kidnapping Devon."

As Pterano listened the the old threehorn's apology, he couldn't help but form a smile of gratitude on his face. He suddenly felt as though he's been lifted into the Heaven's and everyone would be cheering for him. It was a feeling that he barely ever got to experience as a kid and of course as an adult. And for the first time in his life, he felt like he had been cared for...by many. Like he was appreciated. And for the first time ever, he looked at the valley as his family. A hand was placed on his shoulder and looked and saw his long lost wife, Haylie. They haven't married, yet, but they litterally felt like husband and wife, even after all these years of thinking they've lost eachother. His smile grew wider as he felt her hand slip down his arm and into his.

"You may now kiss the bride, Pterano." Grandpa Longneck told them, smiling down at them. Pterano gazed up at him all confused, but as he saw that smile, he could tell this would be the day he and Haylie would finally get married. Without asking questions, he pulled the purple pteranodon close and kissed her full on the lips. She closed her eyes, wrapping her arms around his neck as she moaned, deepening the kiss. Listening as the crowd around them cheered, he tightened his arms around her and lifted her up for a little bit.

The happy couple finally broke the kiss and smiled as everyone cheered for them. She leaned on his chest, enjoying his presence. She was so lucky to have such a fine husband like him. And brave too!

The next few days, as planned was spent on building a better, stronger wall then the last one. With the help of almost everyone in the Great Valley, the wall was made bigger than the one before. They made sure it was strong enough that it would last and most importantly, it would protect the Great Valley in the years to come.

****

Layla strolled through the Hidden Forest, just taking a walk and taking in the scent of the forest. All of a sudden, she heard a twig crack behind her. Having such stiff feet, she wouldn't have felt it if she did step on a twig. She looked under her feet, but only to see nothing but dirt and grass. "Hmm...strange. Probably nothing."

She moved on, shrugging it off. But perhaps a good five to ten seconds later, another twig snapped...fallowed by a silent growl...and a shadow pass from one tree trunk to another.

She turned around and what she saw next sent her running and screaming out of there.

****

Pterano sat on the ground, surrounded by his nephews and nieces and Devon. He flapped his wings rapidly, sending wind towards the youngones as he was in the middle of another one of his adventurous tales. "So here I was on the ground, fighting for dear life when all of a sudden, out of the trees jumped a vicious sailbacked sharptooth." The young ones gasped in shock. "He had the meanest look in his eyes, like a hunger for fless and blood. As he approached me, I could do nothing but prepare myself for a slow and painful death that I was so sure I would recieve. But the strange thing is-Ooof!" the red flyer ended up on the ground, under the wieght of the frightened triceratops that stumbled on top of him, only beak and limbs sticking out. The young one and Devon laughed. "Haha..." he faked laughed along with them.

"Goodness, Layla!" Devon said, covering his stomach due to the pain from all the laughing. "Are you okay? Why the rush?"

"Bone...crushing...trouble...breathing..." Pterano managed to squeak out. Layla climbed off Pterano, sighing heavily. Pterano sat up, shaking his head. "Oohhh...my head..."

"I just saw a monster in the Hiddn Forest!"

Pterano chuckled, standing up on his feet. "You saw WHAT in the forest?" Devon spat out.

"No..." Pterano said in denial.

"Yes! He was about to grab me!"

Pterano chuckled yet again, placing a gentle hand on her back. "Calm down, Layla. It's probably just a tickly fuzzy. You know how those can be."

"Oh, it wasn't that! This thing had the longest claws and it was reaching out to grab me!" Layla pestured. "Come with me and I'll show you."

****
Just as Layla suggested, Pterano strolled with her through the Hidden Forest, leaving behind Devon with the youngsters. They came across the spot werre Layla had her...strange encounter. "There." She pointed to the bush with her horns. "That's where I saw the monster."

Pterano turned away from the young tricertops to explore the bush, moving the branches in doing so...only to see nothing but more forest. He came back out, empty handed. "Layla, there is nothing there. Whatever it is you saw, it's gone now, alright?"

"Alright...umm...Pterano?" Layla suddenly remembered what she needed to do.

"Yes Layla?"

"Umm...I...I...just want to apologize for what had happened last week."

Pterano cut her off. "Layla, it wasn't your fault. You must'nt put yourself to blame for this."

"But it IS my fault! My brother and I were out in the Mysterious Beyond searching for shelter. We came across Mr. Sierra and he claimed to be lost as well. We almost had nothing in common, but we did want revenge on you-no offense-we really did. Sierra wanted it just as bad. He told us he would take us in as his own children if we helped him." She sighed, a tear falling from her eye. "I'm so sorry. Can you ever find it in your heart to forgive us?"

Pterano was in utter shock as she talked about what had happened with them and Sierra and how they all wanted revenge against him. He wasn't surprised, he was used to this kind of thing. He started to feel for her as she moved on to becoming Sierra's children. "Some father he was..." that statement buzzed through his head like a million fireflies. He clutched his fists as he thought of Devon and when he would show up at his cave all beaten up and crying. It made the red pteranodon sick to his stomach.

"I wouldn't blame you if you wanted me out of the valley..." Layla drifted off, hanging down as she sniffed.

To her surprise, Pterano placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, kneeling by her. "Now you listen to me, Layla," he told her in a voice so calm it caught her off guard. "Somebody once told me, nobody is perfect. You can try to be as perfect all you want, but you're only going to fail and screw up your life. You HAVE to make mistakes in order to learn. I had to learn my lessons the hard way. Do you think I was happy to be banned from the valley? Of course not! Because being alone and defenseless sucks. And if it wasn't for Devon, I most likely would have became sharptooth meat." Layla giggled at his comment, but then she hung her head. "Layla, look at me." She obeyed. "We're not going to kick you out of the valley, however, you are going to have to tell your folks about what you did."

"What? But you said-" She started but was cut off by the old pteranodon.

"Tell them or I will."

She sighed, she absolutely hated it when the grownups cut her off like that, better yet catch her off guard. "Alright, I'll tell them."

Pterano smiled at her before quoting one of the wisest longnecks he had ever came to meet. "A real leader would take the credit when things are good and the blame when they go bad."

"Yeah, you're right, Pterano. I'll go do that right now!"

"That's the spirit! Now run along. I'm sure you're parents are awefully worried about you."

"Will definitely do! Thank you Pterano!" she shouted back at him as she trotted into the distance. Pterano sighed as he watched her, giving himself a pat on the back; Excellent job, Pterano...excellent job.

He was snapped out of his thoughts when Devon landed beside him. "Well that was nice, eh Dad?" the blue flyer chuckled, nudging him playfully.

"Yeah." Pterano continued to stare down Layla's path.

"So...you wanna race, old flyer?" Devon challenged, elbowing him gently.

Pterano chuckled; Of course. Devon and his races. "Have I ever turned you down before?" But before the father and son could really do anything, a silent growl took place could be heard, causing Pterano to jump a little. He gasped, looking into the bushes.

Devon tilted his head curiously wondering what had startled his old father for he didn't even hear the growl in the first place. "Dad, are you okay?"

Pterano snapped out of his thoughts. "I could have swarn I-" He cut himself off. He knew Devon would get scared easily and didn't want to cause any panicking. It was better that he didn't know, he decided. "It's nothing, let's just get out of here."

"Okay Dad, race ya!" Devon shouted, shooting himself into the sky.

"Hey, wait for me!" Pterano fallowed suit, as they flew off into the sunset, completly unaware of the fact that they were being watched. This time, not by a couple of flyers, but by something else...something dangerous...

Another growl could be heard, louder this time and long, razor like claws appeared out of the bushes, fallowed by a grayish green arm, shoulders, neck and then...a pair of piercing red eyes. The creature growled, and then disappeared back into the bushes, never to be seen again until the next few years.

WOW!!! Now that is ONE BIG CHAPTER!! :lol

And that's the end of the book. I've had a tough time with this one, but I made it through. And I like how it turned out. Totally proves that I have improved alot since Lost in a Forest.

Anyway, people, I'd like to thank you for your kind reviews. It couldn't be more appreciated...even though I was a bit impatient sometimes. I'm trying to be more patient, its just NOT that easy.

I will be writing a series of oneshots like I did last time. Finally have the freedom to do so! :celebrate Especially that one idea I had in my head for about a month now...

And by the way, this chapter took me ALL DAY to finish: From 1pm to now! That's TWELVE FRIGGIN HOURS!!!! So YOU ALL BETTER GIMME MY FEEDBACK OR IMMA SLAP YOU WITH THIS TREESTAAARR!!!!!  :lol Just kidding, but seriously...LEAVE FEEDBACK!!!!

So, here I am reviewing at 3:25 in the MORNING. I am absolutely crazy. I just hope you're happy, TFM! *Shakes fist*

That's it, huh? Wow, I'm actually suprised at the ending. A Cliffhanger at the very end of the story, and not to mentiong that even the last sentence is a cliffhanger! Dang it! Honestly, I really hope that gets explained. I dunno, could be really good story material, just sayin'. :smile

Mr. Threehorn's little part of that, was probably one of the most funny situations I think he's ever been in out of all the stories I've read. And Grandpa's "encouragement" made it just that bit more funny.  Nice.

And that concludes that. The story has been wraped up (mostly), and finished. Great work and I hope to see that oneshot out soon. :yes

Ok, not going to read the epilogue right now, sorry about that. I'm going to reread this whole story from the beginning to refresh my memory of the story, then write a review for it for the Fanfiction Awards. Now that this story is DONE, I can finally review it, yay!

Imma TIRED from work last night! I gotta go crash soon.

if your interested, since I have your story saved on my computer (Like every other story entered in the awards), I can tell you that this story is 99KB long. (101,657 characters to be exact!) I'm guessing that will take me about 2 hours or so to reread.

I'll try to make that review long, insightful, and delicious.
