How could the Pearl Habor movie bomb way back then?

It sucked, was historicaly inaccurate on a new scale, and the characters were unlikeable, and I could go on forever on how it bombed.

Actually it wasn't a bomb.  True it was panned by critics but it did make a lot of money.
