Perhaps, my dad really wants to see this, and I liked the idea of a "period piece" superhero movie.

The 'period piece' angle also has me interested. Not many super heroes are based around actual historical periods in history.

The only other one I can think of is season 1 of the Wonder Woman tv show from back in the 70's that was based in the WW2 era where Wonder Woman first appeared.

i saw captain america appear on the early 90s spidernman, didn't really resonate with me
plus the avengers was already done in the 90s.

That was not a good representation of Captain America. Believe, he's a far more interesting character than that. The Avengers cartoon from the 90s was also not a great adaptation of that concept, either. Please don't base your ticket buying decisions off of what you saw in those half-assed shows.

well the spiderman series did have a lot of crossovcers and subplots which made the show interesting
its better than spiderman and his amazing friends or batman the brave and the bold.

Oh, believe me, I know, but trust me when I say that the Captain America we saw in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon was not a great representation of the character. I like the cartoon as well, but when it comes down to it, it was a lot less than it could have been (especially compared to the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon from a few years ago). There's much more to the Capt. than what we saw there.
Scout's Honor on that last statement.

But yeah, 90s Spider-Man was better than Spider-Man and the His Amazing Friends and Batman: Brave and the Bold.

Well, I just got back from the film. It is the single best comic book movie I have ever seen. I'm not going to go into detail, because I know no else will see it. So why bother?

Eh not really a huge Comic Book fan. But I might see this movie. It looks decent. Not great. If I have time I might see it.

It is nowhere near as slow as people might imagine it to do. I had expectations of a real slow start with it picking towards the end, buy the plot got going pretty quickly.
Alright, the main villain, the Red Skull, unearths powerful device left behind on earth by aliens which people mistaken for the Norse gods (from the Thor movie, naturally) and uses it to give a faction of the Nazi party, Hydra, a huge advantage in the war.
America's only hope of fighting back against this new menace is their new super soldier, Captain America/Steve Rogers. He leads a team of exceptional soldiers against Hydra and their super weapons to stop The Red Skull from taking over the world (OF COURSE!!!).
Believe or not, but the filmmakers were able to give Captain America the same real world feel that the Ironman films had and were able to play this Saturday Morning cartoon plot well enough to make for a two hour film and they did effectively.
The writing is concise, to the point, and so is the dialogue. The acting is top notch, but all the actors in their comfort zones (Hugo Weaving as an over the top villain; Tommy Lee Jones as a tough, smart-lipped military officer), but the actor who truly shines is Chris Evans as the Capt.
I don't know what anyone here thought of him as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies, but his acting in this film is a whole other game.
The action is excellent, and there is plenty of it, the special effects were near perfect, the pacing is quick but not rushed.

Obviously, this film is very dramatic, as you probably figured, since this takes place in WWII, yet Chris Evans is returning as the Capt. in The Avengers, which takes place in modern day.

Overall, they took what could have been bad, real bad, and really turned it into something, instead.

Ah so is it worth wasting 8.00 to 10.00 for the ticket?

I've seen my fair share. The Incredible's, Spider Man, a few Bat Man movies, Super Man the classic ones not the remake yet. So yeah I guess I do. I will see what the Movie Critic's say.

well after listening to your descriptioj I probably will see it. Hugo Weaving (who is playing Elrond again in the Hobbit " Hey if I got 5 million for  5 minutes of screentime I'd take the role too- note I don't know if got that much, but given the Hobbits budget it wouldn't surprise. Tommy Lee Jones is an excellent actor.. the role I most identify him with is Men in Black.

I never go by what critics say, myself. I follow my gut when it comes to choosing movies to go see.

Weaving is excellent as The Red Skull. He was over the top, but The Red Skull is an over the top role.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Tony Stark's father, Howard Stark, plays a major role in the film.

True I also do that on some movies. I might see it. Might not. It looks good. It really does. Iron Man had a sequel. But it could spawn a third installment.

Actually, and I have a feeling you might already know this Nick, I heard they are trying to tie them all together between Thor, Iron Man and Captain America...possibly others, but the more recent "adventure" ones.

So I hear, the plan for next summer is to have all of them back for an Avengers movie, so that's what's with the tie ins between them.

On if I'm seeing the movie, maybe, not sure.

That's right. Thor, Ironman, Capt. and Hulk all take place in the same universe this time. They're all going to be in The Avengers.

Because no one went to see Thor, despite how good it was.
