Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / The intro
« on: July 11, 2011, 02:55:08 PM »
The Italian version of the TV series has its own intro song, even better than the original English one.

I fell in love with this song. Listen to this beauty

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzFf4MhzXsE&feature=related

I understand Italian at a rudimentary level (which means not much), and from what I can tell the song is about discovering the beauty of the Enchanted Valley, a world of youth with wide horizons that never reach the sky, rivers and intense smells. A world everyone should discover for themselves (paraphrasing the end of the song). Can anyone translate the song completely? I'd very much appreciate it. :)

The Fridge / Deciphering the Indus script
« on: June 29, 2011, 07:18:03 AM »
The Indus Valley civilisation is as ancient and was as advanced as the Egyptian and Sumerian civilisations, and it covered an area (and probably harbored a population) greater than either, but its script hasn't been deciphered yet. No equivalent of the Rosetta Stone has been found yet. But recently we've finally started making progress in deciphering it. Thanks to pattern recognition software. Check out this  very interesting video.

General Land Before Time / What is a crossover and what is not?
« on: April 06, 2011, 07:44:36 AM »
This one occured to me yesterday.
How many anachronisms can appear in a LBT fanfiction before it is regarded as a crossover? For those that don't know, an anachronism is plot element (an object, an action) that didn't really exist in the time period in question. LBT takes place in the Mesozoic, probably late Cretacious to be more precise. LBT dinosaurs can talk, those that have hands can use them as skillfully as a human can, dinosaurs from the Jurassic and Cretacious live together, in LBT 1 when Petrie promises he will keep the treestar he holds it like a rifle and walks on Littlefoot's head in a guard's manner, in LBT 2 the Gang builds a craddle to carry unhatched Chomper,  dinosaurs use sharptooth teeth to decorate Saurus Rock in LBT 6, Tria and Ms. Swimmer use bandages, the Old One and Mr. Thicknose are familiar with healing properties of herbs, Ruby has a rudimentary knowledge of astronomy, and in LBT 1, LBT 5 and in a TV episode we touch upon spiritual concepts. In LBT 7 we have aliens visiting Earth. All members regard the examples above, save the last one, as cannon and not a crossover of any kind, eventhough some actions and concepts require a great deal of sophistication on the dinosaurs part, and some are so sophisticated, like Petrie holding the treestar as if it were a rifle, they could only be thought of as humor.

I'm saying this because building weapons and fighting wars is thought of as crossovering, even though building a spear for example is no more complicated than building a craddle or decorating Saurus Rock. By the same token, what prevents the LBT dinosaurs from building temples?

I'm not a proponent of wars or building temples in LBT myself, but I want to know when does a plot element, provided it is not too difficult for the LBT dinosaurs to build, use or understand, is a part of the LBT universe, and when it is not? Should a writer, willing to write a pure LBT story, stick only to the elements he finds in the movies and episodes, or is he allowed a certain creative freedom? And where are the limits of that freedom, before it goes into "crossover land"?

LBT Fanfiction / The Swimmer's Treestar Gathering Song
« on: March 04, 2011, 08:33:13 AM »
Once upon a time I promised the person who answers a rather difficult question in the "World Mythology Trivia" quiz a bunch of virtual cookies and a poem. The virtual cookies have been gone long since. But the poem is here.

It is a song sung by Mrs. Swimmer when she is gathering treestars at dawn for her children's breakfast. The song is a sort of a swimmer folk song, designed to lift boredom while doing the rather time-consuming and mundane task of gathering food. It is quite long and archaic, showing that Mrs. Swimmer didn't invent it, but as is customary among swimmers, she improvises considerably upon an old theme. Even the grammar has been corrupted slightly over time. I also have a specific rhythm and tune in mind for the song, but I don't know how to write it in musical script (actually I do, but I don't know how high I should put the notes in the script without a piano or keyboard), so I was thinking about improvising with accent marks.

So anyways, compliments are welcome, and critiques are even more welcome.
I hope you'll enjoy it!

THE SWIMMER'S TREESTAR GATHERING SONG

Where arest thou,
Where arest thou?
Oh juicy treestar calling,
Shinerays through trees looming.

Oh morning dew,
Oh morning dew,
My legs in thee are bathing,
My lips thy juice are seeking.

Oh sweetest thing,
Little red leafling,
Lighten my children's day,
Reward after daytime's play.

Come out leafling,
In a coupling,
Darkness thy kin hidding,
Shy of the Circle's crossing.

I found some of you!
You shined of through.
Water from your dripping,
Greenfood fresh and tempting.

It is begun,
My gathering run,
Now let us see
How long it will be.

Oh gather though
Shall I as much as you give,
Oh Valley woods,
Your gifts and goods!
And may your seeds
Grow strong and plenty in all,
So that my Seeds
Grow seeds of their own.

Oh Circle, thou rise!
Warmth toucheth my eyes,
The heart had touched been too,
Pour thy golden dew!

Oh morning dew,
Both gold and cold,
Sky colors, your work, are playing,
Twirling, twisting, fraying.

In leafs they are,
On stones they shine!
Sky colors in tree oils,
All capture my mind.

Threehorns awake,
Just hear their roar!
My fellow swimmers
Still gather some more.

Oh gather though,
Shall I as much as you give,
Oh Valley woods,
Your gifts and goods!
And may your seeds
Grow strong and plenty in all,
So that my Seeds
Grow seeds of their own.

I need some more,
I still need more
Treestars to be taken,
Valley will soon awaken.

The morning dew
Is all but gone.
A flyer passing by,
Coming from clear sky.

I feel not sore,
Not now, not before.
I stand strong on my toes,
Wind won't break my bones!

My pile has grown
So much had been sown.
Treestars, grow with speed,
A big mouth's no joke to feed!

Ah fine smells breeze,
Ah fine smells breeze,
By the waterway groweth golden fruit,
Under it a bush of longneck's youth.

My run is long
I still remain strong,
Oh, please run not short,
Of food of all sort!

Oh gather though
Shall I as much as you give,
Oh Valley woods,
Your gifts and goods!
And may your seeds
Grow strong and plenty in all,
So that my Seeds
Grow seeds of their own!

By the waterway
Young longnecks play.
The bush had been nibbled,
Most leafs had been gobbled.

I don't really care,
Since the real prize's there,
Red treestar, thou shinest through,
But I shall pick only some of you!

The prize must remain,
Don't bow to one's greed!
Reward your children
When they've done a great deed.

But what is great?
One might as well ask.
Oh greater the person,
The greater the task.

Oh gathered though
Have I as much as you gave,
Oh Valley woods,
Your gifts and goods!
And may your seeds
Grow strong and plenty in all,
So that my children
Build lives of their own!

General Land Before Time / Watching LBT with family
« on: February 02, 2011, 08:10:16 AM »
If there's already a topic like this, I apologise to the admins and ask them to merge this post with the previous topic. I haven't been able to find one.

So here it goes.

So far I watched the original movie with my younger brother, who's 17. During the closing credits of a movie, my brother (and me too) usually turn of the television or go away. But he sat through the entire "If we hold on together" and in the middle of the closing song, he exclaimed: "This movie has great music". He later said to me it was the best animated movie he'd ever seen (his all time favorite movie is Peter Jackson's LOTR), and it has the second best musical score (the first, of course, is the score of LOTR). His favorite character is Petrie, becuase of his comedy, and his second favorite is Ducky, for her sweetness.

Have you ever watched LBT with family members?
What was their reaction?

1988 Theatrical Release / Why was Petrie left behind?
« on: January 14, 2011, 10:05:17 AM »
I searched through this subforum and realized this wasn't asked before.

Petrie's mom has always been one of my favorite adults from the Land Before Time universe, but why did she leave her son behind? Sure, Petrie was clumsier than his siblings, but couldn't she carry him with her? Petrie was a baby after all.

Petrie could have been scared by the earthquake and ran away from his family, but still, wouldn't a flyer be able to find him? It's not like the chasm left by earthquake represents an obstacle to a flyer.

What's your speculation on this? :p

The Welcome Center / Hi!
« on: December 29, 2010, 08:03:49 PM »
Hello fellow Land Before Time fans! In a way, I'm both an old and new fan of the LBT movies. I saw the first movie and some sequels ages ago, but I recently watched the first movie again and remembered how good it was.

It is this forum that actually reinvigorated my interest in the movies. And it is by  reading this forum that I found out that a TV series had been made! And tons of other info...

Since I feel I can contribute to the forum too, I decided to join, so that I may learn from, help, or just chill with other members. I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

I'll give some backround info on me as well. There can't be any harm from that. I was born and live in Croatia. I'm 21, male, and I'm a student at the Zagreb University, though I'm not a Zagreb native, but come from a small town in the east of the country. I'm a natural science guy, but also a romanticist.

That's all for now. Hope to hear from you soon!
