General Land Before Time / Re: Animation Errors

I remember one scene in LBT 10. Grandpa was looking down the mountain at the three Sharpteeth as they were attacking the gang, but the Sharpteeth's colors were switched around. It was odd.

I get the impression that Universal made the film as sort of a trial run to see how well it would do. If it had been more successful, then they might've made more films, and/or a continuation of the TV series. But since that didn't happen, LBT 14 sticks out as a bit of an oddity in the franchise for not quite feeling in sync with the older films, nor having any follow-ups of its own to connect it with.

Still, it's been a while now since I've seen it and I would like to give it another chance sometime.
That's a pretty good point there. It's sad to see this movie might not be getting the continuation it deserves.
But let's not lose hope yet. If we keep demanding for a XV then we might get it.
Hopefully.

I personally think I'm a mix of Cera (sarcasm and stubbornness) and Petrie (a follower who's a little cowardly but steps up in a big way when s**t goes down) with a little bit of Spike (voracious appetite) thrown in.

I too am not sure what the hate was all about. Any reasonable mother would kick out any child not allowed in their home (all while making sure it was safe, which Ms. Maia didn't exactly have to do since they were in the Great frigging Valley).

General Land Before Time / Re: If you could change one of the sequels...
« on: February 17, 2021, 12:02:05 AM »
This is something I've written before in another thread, so I'll just repost it here.

Another way would be to have Littlefoot and the gang meet Ali as they were leaving the crash site at the end of the movie and this could serve as cliffhanger for the next movie. Instead of Invasion of the Tinysaurus we'd have something like Return to the Land of Mists with Ali having a greater roll.
This idea just made me realize something: LBT should've done what the Pokémon movies did during the Sinnoh era and made a trilogy of movies that were connected.

LBT 10:

The movie begins as per usual, with Littlefoot and his grandparents leaving the Great Valley because of their sleep stories. On their way to the meteorite crash site, they're joined by herds of Longnecks; we reunite with old characters like Ali and Doc; and we meet new characters like Bron, Sue, Shorty, Rhett, etc. The rest of the gang follows behind and meets Pat like usual. The reason why Longnecks are converging and venturing out in the middle of nowhere is treated as a mystery throughout the film and is still unresolved by the end of the film; only bits and pieces of hints can be put together in this puzzle.

Because this is the tenth film, we could have cameos and/or clip show-style flashbacks of other characters and films. All the while, this new super-herd is constantly being followed by many Sharpteeth that have been habitually following the individual herds and now become occasional nuisances to the super-herd, just for action's sake. However, Chomper and his parents are among these Sharptooth, and they're not aware Littlefoot is a member of that super-herd because of its tremendous size. The film ends on a cliffhanger when Littlefoot realizes Bron is his father, just as the super-herd reaches the crash site.

LBT 11

The film begins with the super-herd entering the crash site and beginning to settle in. As they do, Littlefoot deals with the revelation that he just found his long-lost father, which makes things extremely complicated with his relationships. Eventually, Bron explains why he was never in Littlefoot's life to begin with, and they begin to bond. Bron tells Littlefoot all about what his mother was once like (perhaps even finally revealing her true name), including revealing she was a capable fighter who could hold off multiple Sharpteeth (this is important for later on). He also starts teaching Littlefoot how to lead a herd of Longnecks, which gets him close to Bron's herd, including Shorty, and also sparks a romantic relationship between him and Ali. Of course, Rhett is a butt and an antagonist about it, but he eventually gets his butt kicked.

Meanwhile, the rest of the gang is lagging behind with Pat like in canon (perhaps being aided along the way by characters like Tickles and Mo), while Grandpa decides to dig deep into the mystery of the sleep stories and soon learns of the solar eclipse. The film ends on another cliffhanger, with the Sharpteeth that had been following the super-herd, an ambivalent Chomper and his parents included, gathering en masse to take advantage of the all-you-can-eat buffet they have on their hands.

LBT 12

The film begins with Shorty jealously running away like in canon, and Littlefoot follows him to bond with him and get him back, but instead of being attacked by one Sharptooth, they're attacked by the super-pack. They're cornered, but before they're killed, the leader (who has been the biggest nuisance out of all the Sharpteeth in the trilogy) suddenly chooses to capture Littlefoot instead, while Shorty manages to run away. Through captivity, Littlefoot finally reunites with Chomper, who helps him escape. In the process, Chomper learns through his understanding of Sharptooth language that the Sharptooth leader was one of the Sharpteeth that Bron and Littlefoot's mother fought off in the past, and that he lost his mate to them as well; he recognized Bron in the herd earlier, saw him talking to Littlefoot, and put two and two together, so now, he's seeking revenge.

Littlefoot's escape triggers an epic battle between the important Longneck characters and the Sharpteeth super-pack, which is joined by the rest of the gang and Pat. Chomper and his parents rebel, with his parents helping Bron kill the Sharptooth leader. But before the rest of the super-pack could overwhelm the heroes, the solar eclipse happens, scaring off the Sharpteeth. The Longnecks carry out the mysterious tradition that has guided them through the entire trilogy, "saving the world". Afterwards, Chomper and his parents leave on good terms with the heroes. Littlefoot chooses to return to the Great Valley with his friends and grandparents rather than have a future with Bron and Ali, which they accept. The film, and therefore the trilogy, ends on a triumphant note, with Littlefoot recalling the life he's led so far, which put him on the path of this epic journey in the first place. Cue commemorative montage of all the films, one last scene of the gang returning to the Valley, and then...fade to ending credits.

General Land Before Time / Re: sequel with darkest story

I also agree that the nightmare of Grandma dying in XIII was pretty unnerving.

Oh, good point. I forgot about that part.
Yeah I remember that scene being really unsettling when I first saw it. Especially for a film that has a very silly tone throughout. Also the scene where Littlefoot has the same dream but with the Yellow Bellies instead was also pretty unsettling.
Yeah, in hindsight, that scene was pretty out of place in a movie like that.

General Land Before Time / Re: If There's A Land Before Time 15

Given LBT 15 didn't come out riding the coattails of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom like some people (me included) were hoping for, the chances of the movie happening got pretty slim...

I still think this movie was, by far, more superior than XIII. That aside, a lot more could've been done with the concept at hand, and there were some missed opportunities. But it's kind of hard to put any blame on that, in my opinion, because of the circumstances behind this sequel. Universal dug this franchise back up after a near-nine-year hiatus, which means a lot of the main crew (if not ALL of the crew) was different, which means the storytelling and creative decisions would naturally be off compared to previous sequels. Plus, I got the feeling that this movie had a much tighter budget compared to previous sequels, which might explain the problems @Sarah described with the animation.

So yeah, I personally think it's hard to judge the film based on the circumstances of the production.

Strut and Thud, without a big doubt. Both are pretty much just being bossed around by big bullies (Ozzy metaphorically, Red Claw literally).

I actually think Rinkus is even MORE evil than Sierra, to be perfectly honest. He may come off as a coward who flinches at the sight of Pterano and is the first target of his anger or irritation, but he's also the one who corrals the blatantly psychopathic Sierra when Pterano has his back on them. Sierra's more impulsive and honest with his psychopathy, but I remember Rinkus being the actual schemer of the duo.

I think it's almost unanimous to say IV and/or VII has the darkest story.

I also agree that the nightmare of Grandma dying in XIII was pretty unnerving.

One of these days I'm gonna watch all the movies and rank them. It's been awhile.
You should definitely do it! Leave behind a record for posterity's sake.

Yeah, RAS's films were definitely more grounded and down-to-earth compared with Grovesnor's films. However, to Grovesnor's credit, I did notice the fantastical elements of those films were toned down quite a bit with Movies 8, 9, 11, and 12 (the latter two because they were more Great Valley-centric compared to other films, so there was no need to show off the "magical" things that laid in the Mysterious Beyond).

General Land Before Time / Re: LBT and Dink, The Little Dinosaur
« on: December 31, 2020, 02:22:51 AM »
I have something to say.  Before the DVD release, I was the one that virtually saved Dink, the Little Dinosaur from obscurity.

You see, way back when, I stumbled across this series and I was intrigued to know more.  I wanted to watch it, but the only way was through illegal downloads. (There were only a few episodes on YouTube or Dailymotion and torrents for it had no seeds or leeches.) It was on a site called Rapid Upload.  It was the only place to reasonably get it.  I'm not sure if it was my connection or the site's at the time, but those downloads took a long time to get.  They took hours.  I would literally start an download before work or bed, and then come back to it POSSIBLY being done.  It wasn't guaranteed, which is another reason it sucked so much.  I eventually got them all, but I didn't want others to suffer like I did.  I liked the series so much, I decided to do something about it.

After upscaling them to 480p, I put them up on YouTube and Dailymotion.  On top of that, I created an account on Media Fire to have others download on a better site.  People came from many different areas around the world and got to see it.  Of course, nothing lasts and it was eventually taken down.  Everything was just gone one day.

I probably still have the old files somewhere.  I'll have to do a search later just to see.

Anyways, I, for one, do not see this series as a ripoff of The Land Before Time.  If only because of the fact that Dink, the Little Dinosaur came out BEFORE the sequels.  In fact, due to this, I wouldn't be surprised if the writers of The Land Before Time sequels got inspired by the episodes of Dink, the Little Dinosaur. (There are striking similarities, story wise.)

Dink, the Little Dinosaur is a hidden gem of a series.  It takes a bit to get good. (Took me until episode 10 to appreciate it.  Almost gave up on the ninth one.  Trust me, THAT episode was terrible.) However, once you get there, it stays good.  It's worth watching and I would recommend it to anyone who's interested.
Dang, I salute you for your long and tiresome efforts at salvaging this series. It's so intriguing on all the stuff you can find under the surface of popularity.

General Land Before Time / Re: LBT 5---first half or second half?
« on: December 23, 2020, 05:21:35 AM »
I think the fact that I never noticed there were two distinct halves of this movie (and still don't remember there are distinct halves until this thread reminds me as such) tells me these halves aren't as distinct to me as it would be to someone else...

Never heard of this show until now. That's super-uncanny. Some of the LBT VAs are also involved with this show too! Crazy, I think I'll check it out.

I think this guy was weak.  :whatdidyousay There was only one chase and that was it.
The guy clearly had a vicious and powerful streak to him, though. I think it's less about his power and more about the screentime he was given.

^^ That idea sounds pretty dope, actually.

At the end of Wisdom of Friends when the Gang reunites with their parents, and Cera says they followed all the wisdoms.

Grandma: "But you forgot the most important wisdom. Stay in the Great Valley."
Ducky: "Hah, we have trouble with that one, yep, yep, yep."

No kidding!
Probably the most impressive thing to come out of that movie, IMHO.
