The Fridge / Poor kids.
« on: September 10, 2004, 02:00:37 PM »
It is very hard to deal with this topic, as the wickedness and cruelty of such a barbaric act (choosing children as targets) makes it practically impossible to think about it objectively. No doubt even the most objective view could impossibly NOT condemn such a perverted crime. I don't think that anyone in a healthy state of mind would contradict this point.
But I really want to know what it is that makes people commit such inhuman crimes. I hope that I am understood, I do NOT try to seek any justification for something that CANNOT be justified by anything. But why is that, that so many people so willfully give up their lives just to take so many innocent people, they have never met before, with them?
What makes people fly planes into buildings, blow themselves up in busses or restaurants, or take hostages aware of the fact that neither their demands (retreat of Russian troops from Chechyna) are going to be met nor that they are likely to get out alive?
It is that indifference about the own life that makes these terrorists so scary for me. For if someone doesn't care about the own life, why should he or she care about what happens after the own death. What would stop such a person from trying to attack for example a nuclear power plant?
The results if such an attack "succeeded) would be far beyond anything we've seen so far.
Anyway, I'm straying from the topic. Why do people who are physically not different from you and me commit such horrible crimes at the expense of their own lifes? And what do they hope to "gain"? Is the terror and fear itself the aim?

One last thing, the question "is Chechyna responsible?". How is that meant? How would that country be responsible or that whole people? Too often do I hear people say that THE Muslims, or THE Americans, or THE Politicians, or THE whatever are responsible for anything, or that THE whoever are stupid, evil, nasty etc. Such statements fail to differentiate.
I cling to the idea that in generally evilness is not a foundation of human nature. This believe would be questioned by such general statements.

The Party Room / The LBT alphabet

Well, the first and almost only C that comes to my mind would be Chomper.
Circle would not be very LBT like a term without the attribute "Bright" (which would qualify it, but for the B position).

The Party Room / LBT Trivia Game

Nope, nope, nope!
Remember the actual question:

Many LBT characters have names based on the kind of dinosaur they are. Once however a dinosaur (who doesn't play any important role in the movie I'm talking of and is just a total background character) is named by the actual name of it's kind, just the ending "-saurus" has been left out. Which movie ist it, who says the name? And what is the name?

Neither Tickles (who's species is not absolutely sure; most likely a Megazostrodon, but that wouldn't even be a dinosaur) nor Nod are ever addressed like that (In Nod's case someone would have to call him "Nodo" to met the criterion). And as I said, this character doesn't speak a single word in is not important for the story. I hid one further hint in this message (a very subtle one though).

Hi!
That one is from LBT 8. When the gang (minus Ducky and Spike) wants to leave the Valley and run into Mr. Thicknose who asks them if they mean to leave the Valley they are not quite constant with their responses.

General Land Before Time / Land Before Time XI News

So now the title is official.
Strange, that they are still so miserly with further information on it. I suppose that either they are going to let us know more about it within the next days, or that for some reason they changed their "information policy" and won't release any information until shortly before the movie itself is released.
What do you think of this title?

1988 Theatrical Release / What would you like...
« on: September 10, 2004, 12:59:28 PM »
As for the 15th anniversary edition of LBT on DvD, it was released in Germany yesterday. I didn't see it, and right now I can't afford to buy this or any of the other six LBT DvDs (2 to 7) which are available in Germany for the first time now. Except for the different language versions, there seems to be nothing special about those DvDs at all. Those of LBT 2 to 6 had a remark on "special features", which in all cases seem to consist of two games of the kind that entertains a three year old for five minutes. The original movie had a remark about the movie being edited digitally (whatever that means), but no reference to any special features.

I definitely agree that an anniversary edition of the movie (sorry, but I doubt that another DvD edition with this features is ever going to be released) should contain the outcut scenes. For all I know 7 minutes of the movie that were actaully produced were cut out later. Maybe more scenes were planned but not finally realized. Maybe it would be possible to find planning sketches of such scenes that give an idea of how such a scene would have looked.
An audio comment of Don Bluth and Gary Goldman would certainly be great. I would also be very interested to hear something from Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss (who created the characters) and Stu Krieger (who wrote the script). I'd be very interested to know who was actually the first one to come up with an idea for LBT, and who really thought of the story. It would also be interesting to know if there were earlier koncepts for the outward appearance of the characters (I doubt anyone just draw a dinosaur and from the first attempt it looked like it looked in the movie), and for the story plot (I read about earlier plans for the storyline that were supposed to stress the topic of racism ("threehorns never play with longnecks") much more than the movie did).

That one is from the very same movie. Littlefoot says this when (after crossing a log over a raviene) he realizes that Ducky is missing. Cera immediately suspects Chomper of having taken her as a snack.

Nope.
I'll give you another hint, as this might really be a difficult one. The character is addressed with this name (really just the -saurus is missing as a difference to the name of that character's kind), but the character is so unimportant that not even a single word is uttered by that character. One really has to search for that character.

Hi Jojo!
Your Avatar looks really beautiful.
It's not just you Captain Arvens. To me this Littlefoot seems to look a bit sad too. Very often the scenes in the movies in which the characters look sad are the most emotional ones. I drew some pictures of the main characters looking sad or even crying too.

William Wallace - Leader of a Scotish uprise (which began in 1296) against the English rule in Scotland. He was finally caught and executed in a rather nasty way. He was somewhat brought back to people's mind through Mel Gibson's movie "Braveheart" (a movie that doesn't mind the historical facts too much though).
