General Land Before Time / Re: Childhood LBT Mix-Ups
« on: March 19, 2022, 01:59:43 PM »
There were a couple of misunderstandings when I was a kid.

When I watched the first LBT film the first couple of times, I thought Littlefoot's mother wasn't his biological mother. I thought the egg rolled too far away from the longneck in the pond and into a different longneck herd that just took him in. :p

Second, I saw LBT 5 before LBT 2, and again, didn't think Chomper's parents were his biological parents. In fact, I thought it was the plated sharptooth that was related to him. Why? Because Chomper and the plated sharptooth had three fingers, while his parents had two.

Also yeah, I thought Tippy was a girl. And on first glance, Rinkus. Reverse colour coded for our inconvenience. :lol Pretty sure I thought Littlefoot was a girl at some point, too.

Thanks!

Well, Spring appears to be here! Here are a few of the flowers that have popped up over the last couple of weeks.

All except the first were taken on my phone since they were taken on random walks around my house. Hopefully we'll see a bit more variety in the coming weeks.

General Land Before Time / Re: Most underrated sequels?
« on: March 19, 2022, 12:56:30 PM »
I've noticed 14 seems to get forgotten about a fair bit as well. I think because it's such an odd one in that it came out 9 years after The Wisdom of Friends and nothing has come out since. It just sort of came and went again. There are some things in there that annoy me, but not nearly as much as some of the other later sequels.

It seems a lot of people think Secret of Saurus Rock is underrated and I'm inclined to agree, probably because I watched it so much when I was younger.  :p

Fancied doing a comic for this one, but there's no way I'll get that done in time.  :taunttroll Might be able to sketch something this weekend or next for this, but we'll see...

Would love to know what your idea was, Flathead.  :p

1) Was the first film what introduced you to the series?  If so, when did you watch the first film?

Actually, no. I'm pretty sure I watched a few of the sequels before the first film. I started watching LBT when I was really young, but I remember watching at least the second, fourth and sixth film before the first.

2) Which scenes really stood out to you when you first watched the film?  Upon later viewings did any other scenes rise in prominence?

The whole sequence of sharptooth and the earthquake, and the following death of Littlefoot's mother. Another thing that stood out to me was that we were shown Littlefoot's depression following his loss, rather than jumping straight into a cheering-up moment.

3) There are certain details in the first film (Petrie moving in a more quadruped way in certain scenes; Spike not speaking because he just hatched as opposed to other reasons; a darker theme in the original film; etc.) that seem to have been lost in the sequels. Which of these (including others I may have left out) do you wish would have been retained in the sequels, if any?

Oh definitely the darker theme. I think the earlier sequels had a good balance between making it more for the younger audience while keeping some darker themes of the world, but the latter seemed to vanish as time went on. Having sharpteeth that are actually a threat to the gang would be good too.  :bestsharptooth

Might as well upload some more photos. I decided against the aircraft ones because I went and had a look and most were blurry.  :smucky I went to Wales a few weeks ago and took some photos, and finally got around to editing them today.

The following are the views we got on a hike through Coed-Y-Brenin Forest Park. It snowed the night before which meant we got a good view of some snow-capped mountains. The trail also treated us to a few waterfalls.

The following day we went to Harlech Castle. Didn't take too many photos because it was hella windy up there.

I've got a few more photos from walks a bit closer to home which I'll upload a bit later (still editing a few of those).

Pizza for sure. And I love desserts, especially cookie dough and waffles (bonus if they have Oreos on them).

Great, now I'm hungry...  :ChomperYummy

Given that they're labelling the clips for the thirteenth movie as just "The Land Before Time" and not its full title like with the other sequels, maybe the thirteenth movie is the first movie now   :PLoofah

Or maybe they're retconning it into an extended episode of the TV series, who knows.

Let's see... gang travels to a valley, there's a scene in which Littlefoot (almost) loses a maternal figure during an earthshake, sharpteeth fall to their doom... Yeah, checks out.

They're doing the same for Journey of the Brave, too. Hm... Gang follows landmarks to reach a destination, Littlefoot faces losing a parent, gang splits up over directions... Also checks out. :p

That's good to hear! I kinda flip-flop between days and nights where I work, but I think I prefer doing nights. It's easier to get the work started right away (I can't stand the sitting and waiting around we have to do in the day) and we get a lot more done. It probably depends on the job but nights are just easier where I work. It took me a while to adjust to the schedule too, but I strangely found I slept better once I had (probably because I didn't have to wake up for any alarm).

^ Ah okay, that makes sense. I guess we can only wait and see if they can upload original movie clips in the future.

General Land Before Time / Re: Animation Errors
« on: February 20, 2022, 06:18:06 PM »
Ehhh they're low-budget films. That's not to say all the mistakes are excusable but it's not gonna go through the rigorous reviews theatrical releases would endure. I'd say the animators probably did spot many of the errors but thought it's just a minor thing hardly anyone will notice, plus they probably didn't have the time to go back and change things. I wonder if anyone noticed or cared about the fact that Grandpa Longneck was a mistake for the entire 7th film. :p

Not me forgetting to respond for over 2 months. Thanks everyone. Glad you could all see their personalities shine through!

Anyhoo, here's my entry for the couple's prompt! And to the surprise of absolutely no-one, here's my favourite couple in LBT:

So the idea is that maybe after the kids found it during the big freeze, these two decide to go on a hot spring date every now and again (when they're not chasing after Littlefoot on one of his adventures :PLoofah). Speaking of, I could really do with a spa day.  :thinking

Tried drawing longnecks from memory after two months of drawing nothing instead of using references which was probably a bad idea but oh well. I've had a good break so hopefully it's now time for me to get into it again. Looking through my files I've got at least three bits of finished artwork I haven't yet uploaded, but it's part of a bunch of concept sketches of OC's/fanfic related stuff so I'll probably hold onto those until I've got a few other sketches tidied up and then make some kind of masterpost with them. I may or may not do something else before that though. We'll see. :p

The way she laughed after telling the story of how her cousin put herself in the mouth of a sharptooth just got me for some reason. That's some messed up sense of humour and I love it. :lol Other than that, yeah she's quirky but caring as well. Certainly an improvement in the new character department compared to the previous film.  :PLoofah
