General Land Before Time / Watching LBT with family
« on: January 31, 2013, 05:44:02 PM »
Just over a year ago, my counsin used to love LBT, so I gave her the DVDs I had, since I wasn't interested in it at the time. Now, it's the other way around. She's obsessed with Nintendo games (which I used to be obsessed with) and I'm obsessed with LBT. :lol

I haven't really watched it with my family, but they know about it and like it. My 22 year old brother watches the films from time to time, and my mum jokingly called me a weirdo for liking it at my age, but said it was a really good film, so they like it, but I just don't watch it with them.  ;)

General Land Before Time / why does everybody hate LBT sequels?
« on: January 30, 2013, 06:48:12 AM »
I enjoy most of the sequels myself, although I will skip through some of the songs sometimes. I agree with vonboy on this; the first will always be a classic, but that doesn't mean the sequels don't have their good points too, although 13 was just bad. Really bad. I also love the backgrounds, they're just so beautiful. <3
I also agree with Mumbling, a lot of people on YouTube love to hate things because they think they're joining a bigger crowd, but oh well. Haters gonna hate.  :lol

LBT Fanart / Some random fanart...
« on: January 29, 2013, 12:36:40 PM »
Thanks everyone! :D I'll try get something else up by next week. As I said, I'll upload it as it comes. It's a bit of a busy time for me right now though; my friend's taking me to London this weekend and then I've got a load of exams to do over the next few weeks which will decide which classes we're in next year. Then by March I need to sort out my options for courses and such, which is pretty important since it's going to decide what I'm going to do career-wise, but I'll probably find time for drawing nonetheless, although I may not be as productive as I'd like (Not like I'm productive anyway XD). :lol

LBT Fanfiction / PAST-O-RAMA

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I have noticed your writing has definitely improved as the series went on. Sorry if I seemed a bit harsh in the first review, and I think that the script writing may have confused me a little bit, since it makes everything seem a lot quicker than in novel format. :lol
I suppose I should mention that now since I forgot last time. Although I prefer writing in novel format myself, I found your way really interesting and how it's set out to look like an actual TV episode script really intrigued me. In general, I also like how many characters you brought back, such as the rainbow faces and Ali's herd once again, and of course, Pterano!

I might review a few episodes at a time now, but I can't really do much now since I'm in a lesson at school.  :DD

I just wanted to say that it is enjoyable to see your improvement as I read on and I'll be looking forward to new episodes. No worries, though. Take your time, I understand how hard it can be sometimes to get things done.  :yes

Thanks, Mumbling! Considering I didn't know how to use GIMP properly this time last year, I'd say my art has come a long way. I wasn't really making too much progress art-wise for the majority of the year, and I think the reason for this was because I wasn't very motivated, but I think after I re-discovered it around October/November LBT truly inspired me.

I just took this in small steps. I used screenshots that I like and drew from them to get the feel of it, and it just progressed from there. I'm glad you like it! :DD

Episode 1

Hooray! Finally I can get started! So, I'll get straight to it, shall I?

First off, the first few lines with the narrator made me laugh quite a lot. I'm pretty sure I've said this to you before, but I very rarely read something that makes me laugh, so good job with that. :yes

Oh noes, I want to hug Littlefoot right now. Although the scary sleep story thing does portray Littlefoot finding it hard to move on well. And don't worry, I don't hate you for making Grandpa die before this starts, and Bron coming to the Great Valley to live is a nice idea, and yes! Shorty! I love the little guy. :DD

I loved the introduction of the professor too, although I agree with Pangaea, it did seem a little bit rushed. But, all in all, a really good start!

I did notice a fair few typos and grammar errors here and there. I'll just name a few:

Quote
An asteroid fly's by.
I believe that should be "flies" there.

Quote
Grangma Longneck:
Small typo here.

Quote
Mr. Threeohrn sees that human and runs up to the group.
I think some letters got mixed up there. :lol

No worries, though. I write some stuff sometimes and I don't spot mistakes until the 10th time I've read it through! It's really good so far! Keep it up! I'll try and post more reviews when I can. :yes

LBT Fanart / Some random fanart...
« on: January 28, 2013, 11:58:23 AM »
YES MOAR... may come soon. Although I would like to draw some sharpteeth/fast biters first.
Whoohoo! I have gone from being extremely gory with humans to calm and sweet with dinosaurs. My personality has changed a lot over the past 6 months. :lol That and really love doing more naturalistic backgrounds than say city type backgrounds. LBT also re-inspired me to draw something, since before I had re-discovered it, I was running out of things to do with my human OCs and I was just plain demotivated.

Glad you like them. I hope I can get more done soon!

Character Discussion / Littlefoot's Grandparents

just wondering but what are the grandparents doing when they put their necks over each others
This is probably a bit of a late reply, but if you're talking about the Big Freeze, then I believe that Grandpa is keeping Grandma warm and cosy by putting his neck over hers. It's so sweet.

These two are by far my favourite characters, probably just because they are so sweet and such great grandparents. They also remind me of my own grandparents, well the grandmas more so now than the grandpas. My grandpa's getting on a bit and getting more problems with his age, unfortunately, but he was lot like Grandpa Longneck when I was a little kid.

Quote
I think it would be interesting to see a story about how these two first came together, and put an interesting spin on it.

Funny you should mention that. I have my own take on their past and how they first met and became so committed to each other, and I would really love to make it into a fancomic someday, since I enjoy drawing more than writing, but of course I need to get my drawing skills up first before that can happen. :D

LBT Fanart / Some random fanart...
« on: January 27, 2013, 09:13:30 PM »
Well, after what, two weeks, was it? I've finally decided to post some of my fanart here. It's only longnecks at the moment I'm afraid. I have tried drawing the other species of the gang of five, though it didn't come out too great. Petrie was okay, considering I drew him from memory, Ducky I kinda like, but that was with a reference, Spike was "Meh", and Cera... failed.

So, enjoy my drawings, which mostly consists of Littlefoot's grandparents, because they are my favourite characters at the end of the day. Here goes nothing.

So first one:

This is...bleh. It was my first time ever drawing a LBT character, or a dinosaur for that matter, back in November. Well, since I was about 6, anyway. :D I used a screenshot to help me out with this one, but no tracing was done. :) Considering it's a first, I can't say it's the worst thing in the world; I was much worse when I first started with humans, and I never really got any good with that.  :x

Moving on...

Aw, how cute~ Haha, a few people commented on this saying how sweet it was, but I also see a few errors here too. First of all, with the grandparent selves, I really don't get why I made their noses dip downwards when they got closer to the eye, aren't they suppose to be... straighter?  :spit
Oh well, I like how the kiddies came out more. This was intended to be my Christmas/seasonal picture, so I put the transparent grandparents up there looking like the ghosts of Christmas future or something like that. I've always enjoyed "A Christmas Carol".
Also, on young Grandma's hind leg there, eesh. Bit thin, I think. XD

I had drawn Littlefoot and Grandma Longneck together before, but that never made it past the lineart, so I did have a bit of experience drawing younger longnecks. That lineart was also made using a screenshot for reference, but Grandma's head looked really squashed.

Third one:

Pff, this wasn't long after a friend of mine asked what my take on Grandma and Grandpa Longneck's past was. So, the family when Grandma and Grandpa were middle-aged, I suppose. Consisting and Grandma and Grandpa themselves, Grandma's mother, the Old One, Littlefoot's mother and another little one. I didn't really bother with shading and such, since it was just some concept art, but I uploaded it nonetheless.

Final one for now:

My latest and probably my favourite so far. I did a fair bit of experimenting with the background and such, although I didn't really bother with shading it. I just downloaded a load of brushes for GIMP and layered with a load of shades of green. So, they were playing, got tired, and then... oops. Oh noes, their parents found them! :! So, green longneck is Grandma's mother, while the old dude (Old dude? What?) over there is grandpa's, er, grandpa. Curse of the long snouts, much, mother? And Grandma's snout is a bit long too, for that matter. Mind you, they were longer when I inked them on paper. A lot longer. Thank goodness for digital editing. :slap

I don't know why, I just really like drawing Littlefoot's grandparents as kids, and my friend suggested that I do a fancomic for my take on their past, but I'm still thinking about that one. :lol

I'll upload more fanart as it happens. Feel free to critique, I like get to feedback!

Thanks, and I suppose it doesn't. It does take a while to get it done sometimes, and I guess it's the effort that counts for me. :DD

Kara said Littlefoot thinks hes so cute and his grandma and grandpa are old and ugly and have wrinkles
... *Facepalms*:bang
I think these people are just trying to downright insult the franchise now...

Considering this is Littlefoot's grandparents we're talking about, it's quite obvious that the animators are going to give them wrinkles to show that yes, they are getting on a bit. I also quite like how in the sequels (well, up to 6 anyway), their colours seemed to have dulled with age, but I think these two are actually pretty cute, especially when they're together.:DD So, old and wrinkled? Yes. Ugly? Nah.

If I'm honest with you, I usually don't express what I like that much in front of people I know will probably make fun of me. I honestly wouldn't pay any attention to them if I were you, and as I said before, you're you. Everyone thinks differently, some people think LBT is babyish while others think it's great. People should just stick to their thing rather than bullying others about it and making them feel embarrassed. :)

@Molly: I had a chance to look at your dA page, and I was quite impressed! I loved your pics with the grandparents, they were so tranquil and sweet, and beuaifully drawn^^
Thanks a lot, Strut! I honestly thought that my art wasn't that great... but that might just be me never having faith in myself. :lol
I've just looked through your dA. Sorry if I spammed your inbox, but I really love your art, especially with the flyers!  :smile

By the way, Molly. I just got around to looking around your DeviantArt. I think there's just a few drawings up there right now, right? "Longneck family" is pretty good, and I see you got your avatar from that very drawing. :DD I think 'One Night in a Cold Time..." is my favorite, though. It just looks like a beautiful scene. So romantic, actually.  :yes
Yeah, since I only really got back into LBT around late October, then didn't really think about fanart until late November, and I don't really get the time to draw often, mostly with school, family and other hobbies getting in the way. I'll try my best to keep it coming, though.

Ah yes, my personal favourite is "One night in a cold time" too. Since I'm such a big fan of Littlefoot's grandparents, I like to wonder about what their past was like. The only thing we know about Grandpa is that he was s story speaker in his day and was told stories by his own grandfather (maybe he was a story speaker too? :D), and we pretty much know nothing about Grandma, so... gives me an excuse to make random stuff up! :lol
Funny, I just looked back to that one picture, and now I've drawn another piece with Littlefoot's grandparents as kids. I've shown the sketch to a couple of my friends and they think it's pretty cute. So, more romance, I guess... maybe.  :DD

Although it is aimed at a younger audience, anybody can like what they want. It doesn't mean they're babyish, after all, everyone likes different things at the end of the day. I guess I'm pretty lucky because most of the people I know accept my liking for LBT, heck, my mum even took me to get my LBT DVDs I gave to my younger cousins, but I know what it's like to have it being called babyish. You shouldn't take much notice of them, they're them and you're you, and if you like LBT, then then it's not their business. There's no need to be embarrassed about it if it's what you like. :DD
