The Welcome Center / Hello there!

Wow. That's humongous.

What's going on in the image, exactly? (If you don't mind me asking.)

The Ceratosaurus's expression is great, and I also really like the dromaeosaur. The alimon (that's what it is, isn't it?) seems a bit chromatically overdressed compared to the other two :p (not that I don't appreciate brightly colored dinosaurs), but I love the way you drew the forefeet; they're by far my favorite part (of the alimon, anyway).

I thought "turtle" when I first read your screen name :p (though I'm reasonably certain it's pronounced differently).

Again, I love your avatar. Not only does it show great attention to scientific detail, but your Ceratosaurus also has a lot of character. (At least, it looks that way to me. Do you have a bigger picture of it anywhere?) Funnily enough, it looks a lot like my own Ceratosaurus concept for an LBT fanfic I'm working on.

Silver Screen / Ice Age 3
« on: July 07, 2009, 08:40:02 AM »
I just saw this movie last night with my brother, and I LOVED it! :D I actually thought it was the best in the series. (I hate giving away spoilers, but I might just slip here, so don't keep reading this if you don't want to know too much about the movie.) Not only did I lose count of how many times I cracked up during the film (though not at the more risquÈ jokes; I really don't care for that kind of humor), but the dinosaurs were AWESOME. The mother T. rex was, in my opinion, the coolest animated tyrannosaur since Sharptooth (I actually had chills in the scene where she first makes her entrance). And the apparent anachronism of Pleistocene non-avian dinosaurs didn't bother me in the slightest. The series does correctly establish that dinosaurs were extinct before the time of the mammoth and the mastodon; (:p :p :p) this movie simply utilizes the loophole of dinosaurs surviving isolated from the rest of the world (the first instance I've seen of a "lost world" set in prehistoric times :p).

By the way, WeirdRaptor, from what I have seen of your posts, your opinions and outlooks on most subjects are often almost polarically different from mine. So I don't know if you would have the same appreciation for this movie as I do, assuming you haven't seen it yet. However, I do recall that you have expressed interest in seeing a dinosaur movie in which the carnivores are portrayed as something other than mindless, evil, and/or bumbling "bad guys" (an opinion I can definitely agree with :yes). If you have not seen this movie yet, I would recommend that you do so, for the reason that the dinosaurs in this film break the mold in the exact way that you describe (intelligent, even sensitive carnivores, and decidedly non-placid herbivores). I may regret saying this, seeing as you may dislike the movie anyway, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Hi Truttle! Welcome to the Gang of Five! Hope you have as great a time here as I'm having! :smile

If you don't mind me asking, how'd you come up with your screen name? (I don't know why, but I rather like it.)

Your avatar is fantastic, by the way (a Ceratosaurus, if I'm not mistaken). Did you draw it yourself?

Littlefoot looking towards the Sharptooth "I think we're gonna need a bigger rock"
We should have heard that in LBT X when the gang and Shorty were using pebbles to assault those oafish sharpteeth in the "climax." :p

I'm a little awkward when it comes to welcoming new members, but seeing as I greeted your brother when he joined the forum, it's only fair that I say hi to you as well. So...hello! :wave :smile

Happy star day, Noname!

I had hoped to start a personal tradition of posting one of these :birthday emoticons for every candle on the cake of the person to whom I am wishing a happy star day, but apparently the board doesn't allow more than about fifteen emoticons per post. Oh well. Guess I'll have to settle for Plan B:

:birthday x21

Oh, shoot! I just saw this thread, and realized I missed wishing you a happy star day! :bang I feel especially guilty considering you were so nice to me when I introduced myself on this forum (not that all the rest of you weren't ;)).

Oh well. Please accept my apologies and belated star day wishes. :smile Happy star day, buddy! :DD

I was relentlessly teased and hassled throughout my elementary and middle school years, but I never dared raise a fist against my tormentors for fear of getting in trouble. :rolleyes I wish I'd been sooner acquainted with the works of insult masters Groucho Marx and Moe Howard; maybe then I would've been able to devise snappy comebacks to those overstuffed baboons (sorry for being unfair to the real baboons :p).

Continuing the series of snowball fight captions...

Littlefoot: Don't look now, but I think Petrie brought his mom to the white-ground-sparkle-ball fight again.
Ducky: I do not need to look, nope nope nope!

I don't play sports ever because I'm no darn good at them. :p (I have horrible stamina, and reflexively flinch whenever I see a ball coming at me.)

Let it snow! I live in northern Minnesota, where the former is a fact of life during the winter, :p but I can't stand extreme heat, especially when it keeps me from sleeping.

Would you rather have a medium-sized T. rex or a dozen small Velociraptors as a bodyguard in the Cretaceous period? :p

Ah, close enough. :p

I was thinking of the scene (in LBT X :yes) after Cera, Spike, Petrie, and Ducky make the unpleasant discovery that the boulder they spent the night next to was actually a sharptooth. Petrie spoke the line in response to Ducky's remark,
Quote
That is the last time I trust Petrie to pick out a boulder to sleep near!
Your turn! ;)

'Fraid it wasn't Ducky who said it (Nope nope nope! :p), and you didn't mention what movie it was from or who it was said to (as per the rules). Glad to see someone showing interest in the game, though. :yes

If it helps, Ducky was the one the line was spoken to. ;)

General Land Before Time / The Stone Of Cold Fire
« on: July 02, 2009, 01:56:17 AM »
Let’s see…the movie would be missing a song, and one of its underlying themes/messages, as well as an explanation of what the Stone of Cold Fire is. Plus, the gang would be pretty hungry the morning after spending the night in Threehorn Peak, and they’d need to find a local volcanologist :p to tell them how to get to the top. Nothing major that couldn’t be fixed or replaced with a little creativity, as far as I’m concerned. (Though I always did think the rainbow faces were cool-looking dinosaurs, even if I never cared for their characters, voices, or implied origins.)

Triceratops has been added to the list of dinosaurs (which already includes Apatosaurus and Saurolophus) known to possess distendable, snakelike jaws; possibly an adaptation for ingesting large quantities of food, or maybe just for yelling real loud. :p
