The Fridge / Bionicle

Robots! Robots with their own world, language, and history!
I struggled with the appeal, but got sucked right into it after watching the first movie, going from "Uuuugh, this is so dumb brothers, why do you--*watches movie* I want bionicles for Christmas now!"

But yeah, we're pretty excited for the comeback...not sure if we'll still do the sets for Christmas thing (especially since the project to rebuild ALL the bionicles in the house has been put on hiatus :lol ), but that's still so cool!

But boy, the BZpower site hasn't changed at all since I was on the forums waaay back in 2005 and 2006...which makes me feel old...that was almost nine years ago

The Fridge / Spinosaurus

Spinosaurus just keep getting cooler the more we learn about them :D .

I kind of think of them as more of a mix between Crocodiles and Grizzly Bears, though.

LBT Fanart / My art work

It's been long overdue for uploading some art on here, so I'm going to put up a sampling what I have on deviantart

A test doodle for different ways of drawing Daleks, and a different design of Dalek X.

And I still like the way it turned out, though there are areas that need work.

A little bit of the Avatar (cartoon) universe and some mild spoilers if you haven't read the comics...in which Koh the Face Stealer's mother plays an important role in one set...and is called the Mother of Faces. They have been estranged "since time began" (a phrase I have gone into great analysis over), and Koh steals the faces that his mother creates because he misses her...yet for some reason, won't return to her.

In the comic, Aang describes Koh as a "big ugly sow bug" to Mother of Faces, not knowing about their relationship quite yet. So I designed an infant Koh as a baby sow bug, which is tiny, white, and clings to their mother for a long time. Or whatever "time" is to them, since hypothetical, Koh was begat before time began.

I don't know how you can give a water spirit a black eye...but would she ever try.

Also, Mother of Faces is horribly hard to draw...

Another from the Avatar universe, is the OTP that I have the hardest time excusing. Raava and Vaatu are the spirits of order and chaos respectively, and they engage in battle to decide who will have control of the world (I think someone needs a lesson in how yin and yang actually work...). I designed a "balance offspring" that would have formed from their combined energies, which might have broken off during one of their battles.

In some unspecified (future) time, Raava would finally meet Prajap after being the Avatar spirit for thousands upon thousands of years, and somehow found a way to bring him to a very shocked Vaatu.

Prajap is also not very powerful at all, since balance is one of the hardest concepts to completely achieve. Which is pretty pitiful considering who inadvertently created him.

And finally, a revisit to Dinotopia...crossed over with Jurassic Park.

I'm doing a roleplay with my friend in Minneapolis, which is such a crossover. Dinotopia has a load of underground passageways, and their lengths haven't been explored. Since it seems to be in the right ocean to my calculations, they could probably reach Nublar. Which is where a (health and safety) inspector named Penny Lewis will find a stranded and close to death Muldoon. She rescues him with the aid of her Tenontosaurus companion, Prem, and bring him back with her to Dinotopia...which is about to face a disastrous plague of rats, followed by dinosaurs from both Nublar and Sorna.

Though, the rats are supposed to be the far greater threat...I mean this is what the image is on our roleplay page.

Onto the actual picture, which features the scene from the roleplay, when Penny surfaces to rescue a baby ankylosaurus that ran off.

And oh the problems...especially Prem. What's wrong with your bones, Prem?Muldoon should look SO much worse, but I haven't figured out what it would take to actually draw that damage. As for the raptor in the basket...this takes place after a story that my friend is writing about Muldoon's struggle for survival while he is stranded, and during that time, he cares for the baby raptor that hatched during the movie.

The Fridge / favourite "cheesy" movie or tv show?
« on: September 02, 2014, 10:30:31 PM »
I have watched the Croatian cartoon "The Elm Chanted Forest" and its sequel "The Magician's Hat".

Ugh...oh...I know they're terribly written...I know they were great concepts that fell right on their faces like a dropped marionette. But I enjoy them so much, and yes, they had great concepts going for them. But they just weren't executed well enough.

I almost wrote an entire rant, but let me just say that Thistle the Magician would have made SO MUCH MORE of a better hero than Peter Palette the Painter. But that's probably why Thistle was the hero in the sequel.

A childhood favorite, The Princess Bride
I don't even know how four-year-old me sat through this; a child my age would have found it boring.

But it's just so entertaining, with icing on the cake humor...the icing you want and remember more than the actual cake =P . And near endlessly quoteable

It was especially fun when one of my kittens was chasing flickering dots on the TV screen during the first big swordfight scene

Cosmos 2014 with Niel DeGrass Tyson

It's not totally Cosmos without Vangelis, but still pretty incredible just the same. But still...needs more Vangelis.

The animations done by Seth McFarlane are absolutely incredible too, and give so much life to the scientists that are either neglected in education, or have their stories simply told as "derp, an apple fell on his head and he discovered gravity!"
If Seth McFarlane did more animated stories about the great scientists through history, in the same way he does here...I would enjoy that. I personally am sickened by his comedy, but I LOVE what he's doing while he's doing something fairly serious...and even mystical.

Seriously, though...Newton's story alongside Halley's is flippin' awesome. Especially the part with not publishing Newton's writings on gravity because the scientific society was trying to push publication of a book that was failing horribly. "A history of fish"...just page after page of fish illustrations. There are worse reasons to not publish scientific discoveries, but that one's just hilariously lame  :lol . At least it's not herasy.

The new Cosmos isn't much different from the original, but it employs much of what Sagan either didn't know/have space to talk about, as well as using technology they didn't have on hand in the sixties. The "ship of the imagination" is still there, the scripting is similar, and the presence of the hosts is just so cozy and welcoming. If Netflix still had the original on instant view, it's something to watch back to back.

But Vangelis, though! Where is it!?

I had a dream involving meeting Michael York and his wife at some kind of resort. I was excited beyond all reason, but for some reason he just seemed grumpy unhappy. Didn't even look like either of them and his voice was different. But I kinda figured it had something to do with his cancer, subconciously.

While dealing with the weirdness of that situation, I went off to watch a live show which was even weirder than the encounter. It was ocean themed, I'm sure, and I recognized two characters that were dolphins.

It was odd and unsettling. Didn't even feel like a dream at first

Takes a breath*
I have finished watching The Room...and survived

Now, everyone loves "You're tearing me apart, Lisa" and the plethora of "Ohai, Mark"
...
But my favorite poorly executed line is "You can't do this to Johnny! He's very sensitive!"
...Because, you know...sensitivity is the most important thing to focus on when you're stabbing your fiance in the back

Silver Screen / Worst Movie Ever!

The "worst movie ever" is a movie so bad that it doesn't actually exist.  No really, this is an idea for a movie I thought up earlier.  Basically, Tommy Wiseau, M. Night Shyamalan and Michael Bay all team up and make a movie called "Wood", an extreme action thriller based on the life of Ed Wood.  Oh, and the three of them would all have staring roles in the movie.  Make of that what you will. :lol

Seriously though, for actual bad movies, just pick any Uwe Boll movie.  They're not even entertainingly bad.  They're just "bad" bad.
Hey, don't forget Uve Boll! There is no truly bad movie without Uve Boll

Mostly because I'm trying to get references for Koh the Face Stealer...who is a great pain to draw.

While I can't really say it's a bad movie, it does leave a bad taste in my mouth. That being Ralph Bakshi's Fire and Ice. My feelings toward it...

I mean everyone is running around in their underwear! And I don't know why they made that decision. Was it easier to animate? Was something wrong in Bakshi's head? All I know is, I could practically smell all the...man smells (and one lady smell) and just...ew. It's...unsettling to say the least.

It also bored me a little, but mostly that I had to riff "As the king and the most dressed person here, I command that you go find your sister".

Ohay I just realized more big issues needing to be addressed.

First, the rats.

Why did it take until the events of that particular story to take place? If they were getting over from Nublar from underground, supposing that John Hammond had been prepping the island for several years, maybe a decade, then surely Dinotopia should have had an infestation by the time Penny brings Muldoon back?

Why would it have taken so long for that to happen? Unless it's normal for plague animals to be running about a strange land for a several years before they spread their diseases. Isn't that how it worked in Europe's plagues?

Second, the supporting cast
Penny is a character I had created a few years back when I watched the Dinotopia television/mini series. She was a vastly different character and fit into the film universe. Her companion was a Stenocosaurus named Krau. Krau is now a Tenontosaurus named Prem. And so far in my roleplay...he hasn't done much. He's supposedly Penny's best friend, but so far, a Deinonychus named Scheherazade has been filling that role. "Hera" is more meant to be an assistant to Penny, and has a slightly more maternal attitude toward her...though I'm not sure what she actually does. So Prem is highly lacking in his role and has contributed little, and I have no idea what Scheherazade does. The only character that I have a bit more established is a Protoceratops, Oktai, a translator that accompanies Penny while she travels...and he's done even less than Prem. Yet I really want to do more with these characters, and I tend to even forget about Oktai.
Any suggestions for how I could give them more to do?

I think a big part of Prem's problem is that he doesn't speak human languages, and Penny can only vaguely interpret his "speech".

Edge of Darkness episode 3, Burden of Proof

Now, I'm not a big fan of police dramas at all and I only watched it because Bob Peck plays the main character...but ohhhhhh I love it! It's only a mini series and pretty much just focuses on the one character, plus it's more about the investigation and the emotions of said character.

Also Bob Peck.

Something about that man just strikes me as incredibly dreamy <3

I do kinda think that maaaaybe she would actually be a necessity, like they need someone to keep up with the rest of the rescue team and make sure that everything is secure. And by the point she's at, she should have a sharp eye for little anomalies...

In my mind, it's just what works best for her personality...that and it was the best explanation I could come up with her travelling all across the island.
