Announcements / Temporary removal of the LBT Wiki Link
« on: July 30, 2009, 04:05:07 PM »
Perhaps we ought to host the image ourselves....if anything likes this happens again I'll look into it; but for the time being I'll consider it a one-time event.

LBT Projects / The Land Before Time Wiki
« on: July 28, 2009, 07:09:29 PM »
This is a post written simply to test the water, so to speak. At the moment I'm considering seriously encouraging more non-canonical content on the LBT wiki. This is for two reasons:

1. Growth
I feel that a good wiki should always be aiming to grow, and as Universal aren't planning on coughing up more canonical material just yet, non-canon is the only way forward at present. In any case, I believe that as long as it is clear to readers that what they're reading is non-canon, it will be a great addition to the wiki if it truly takes off. Although canon is important, the surrounding LBT community is important too, and it is still LBT-related.

2. Member Numbers
This is one of those things one shouldn't perhaps admit, but I would be hoping that members here editing their own fan-work over at the wiki would get a taste for it, and start editing the wiki as a whole. There's been a real slump in editors of late, and it would be gratifying to change that if possible.

A start has already been made with the introduction of the Own Character section, which has had a few entries to date, but I would really like to expand non-canon as a whole more dramatically if possible. But before this all gets going, I'd like to know what everyone here, the place which most editors in this departament would come from, thought about the idea. There is a bit of work to be done before a lot of this can really get moving, and I don't wish to waste time doing it all if it turns out that noone would be interested, which would, after all, be fair enough.

Things that immediately come to mind are fanfictions, roleplays and the like, although things like the game currently being worked on here (unless it's been finished during my abscence!) would certianly warrant a page in my opinion. In any case, all I want here are opinons, ideas and a general indication of the level of enthusiasm.

P.S Good to be back!

Computer and Electronics / A Most Interesting Error at YouTube
« on: May 08, 2009, 02:44:21 PM »
I guess the Youtube staff like to have a bit of fun now and then. Dealing with complaints about edgy vidoes all of the time must get a little tedious. Sure I've either got that before, or at least see in. The highly trained monkeys certainly ring a bell.
If you want an even better error though, check out this.

To be perfectly fair on the media they haven't seriously overblown this one; nothing like the MMR/autism scare a little while back.

7/10. Just....nice to read. Lost marks for the "Always there" part, it just felt as if it had been tagged on.

Lots of schools were/are closed.  Sounds pretty silly since nobody closes on the regular flu season.
And yet if they weren't and then something did happen, then the government behind it would be absolutely nailed by the media, and subesequently a lot of other people. One can't blame them really.

I couldn't tell you even the barest outlines of what happens in the book any more, but I do remember really enjoying the book, in a kind of Johnathon Livingston way.

A friend of mine completely freaked out when I mentioned a slight nausea. It was quite funny in some ways, but a little saddening in others.

Hmm, I might try and vote for a few of the categories this time around, although I can be a little indecisive at times. Added to that fact that I've not been terribly active of late...hmm. I'll have a think.

LBT Fanfiction / Better Names

Head injury....I suppose you could say "head hurt", or "head lump". The "head" part is certainly okay, otherwise we wouldn't have phrases like "Flathead".

I'm starting to dislike Chomper just because he seems to have his own religion on this board.
I do see what you mean here LB&T.

Neither Chomper nor Ali were in the original, and whilst that may seem like a rubbish excuse to get rid of them, it's mine. The other characters are something special to me, whilst niether of those are.

Which is why my vote goes to Cera. She's got the personality to fight and come out top.

LBT Multiplayer RPG Project Discussion / Little help
« on: February 08, 2009, 06:48:53 PM »
I'd agree with Wolf here; when picking up the basics of a program the other day I followed the tutorials to the letter, despite having a project needing doing on the prgram. I feel better for it. At the end of the day, if you jump in and make something before you've got the hang of it, then you're going to have to face the reality that at some point you're probable going to have to start that thing again from scratch for what you need it for, which is very dissatisfying. If you're happy to face that though then the best of luck to you.

Brain Food / Grammar Trivia
« on: February 08, 2009, 06:43:30 PM »
I was unsure, so I headed to Wikipedia, which had a quote from the Oxford English Dictionary:

Parenthesis
An explanatory or qualifying word, clause, or sentence inserted into a passage with which it doesn't necessarily have any grammatical connection, and from which it is usually marked off by round or square brackets, dashes, or commas.

Make of it what you will. And you're probably right on there being a better way of saying it LBT, but I was quoting directly from somewhere, what with creativity being on a low. In any case, your turn.

I believe the code is as so: [title="Alttext"]Visuals[/title]

At least, that's how I've seen it done elsewhere. Not sure why it doesn't work here.

Okay, let's see what happens if we try adding parentheses in. (I think that's what they're called anyway, but feel free to correct me.) Otherwise I think this is a fairly simple one.

Sally sells sixty smelly seashells by the Swedish seashore.

I've missed out "seashoew"....I can't honestly think where it might fit in. Not even sure what word it's meant to be...heh... I guess some of the adjectives could be swapped around too.
