Attic Treasures / What are you reading?

I'm currently reading "The Fires of Heaven" by Robert Jordan. It's part of the twelve book series "The Wheel of Time".

Classes would be a problem, although the system could be adapted so that you could gain racial levels instead. Basically, it would need work.

As to the bonuses for AC go... the smaller you are the higher your size bonus to AC (and Base attack bonus). Larger things have penalties to these.

EDIT: I haven't heard anything about a fourth edition, but it wouldn't suprise me.

Okay, but isn't there a difference between boxing yourself in and defining a (perhaps very) general target?

For, Final Fantasy XI has a lot of the saddest gaming moments:

Cyan losing his entire family and his kingdom.
Kefka murdering the Espers.
Locke's whole backstory.
Edgar and Sabin's stories.
Celes losing Cid.

Then there's Tales of Symphonia:

Colette dying when she fulfilled her purpose as the Chosen (yes, she was brought back later, but its still a very emotional moment).
That's Final Fantasy VI in England, although I believe in the States it's III.

In Metal Gear Solid, when Sniper Wolf is dying, also when Psycho Mantis is dying.

Rrr... I'm useless...
Well, if you were super-human and you had 100% control over your writing then you'd be able, from the offset, to how many words it's going to be, and adjust the plot and pace of your writing to suit.

Okay, maybe I'm not very clear. What I'm trying to say is that having the "it's going ot be as long as it needs to be" attitude towards writing may be a sign of not properly controlling what you're writing.

So I guess that means the Sharptooth misses Littlefoot by a few feet after a lunging attack. Am I right?
Hmm, not sure. Littlefoot would have a high bonus to his AC due to his size, but then Sharptooth would have a pretty high base attack bonus...heh...

Anyway, I'm still not sure whether people's knowledge is fairly good or rudimentry. To anyone who does have (at least basic) knowledge of the system, do you think a LBT adaptation would work?

Is it just me or are these chapters REALY short? I make chapter 1 just under 1000 words, whilst what in I'm currently writing (which, I'll admit, isn't fanfiction) chapter 1 is just over 4000 words. Is all fanfiction like this?

I personally try to keep the story going until I feel it's reached its end. If it happens to be like 80 chapters and 1200 pages long...then that's just how its gotta be!
When I hear something like that, my immediate reaction is "Yes, there is someone who doesn't let the system define them, someone who is true to what they're writing."

On second thoughts though, begin to wonder if people simply have little or no control over what they're writing (don't take this offensively, it's just food for thought.)

I have one friend who wouldn't stop going on abou this for days, and he isn't a regular gamer. It does sound really interesting though.

I loved the book, but felt that the film really wasn't much cop. I loved the first five minutes, but really felt it went downhill from there. After realising that they had decided to omit elves and dwarves from the film, I'm afraid I gave up on it.

I picked my username from the game "Morrowind". An important artifact within the game is the "Totem of Claw and Fang". I hate underscores in my usernames so I just shoved it together.

This is just an idea I had, not sure how it will pan out. Before I start asking if anyone's interested I thought I'd first check how much people know about the d20 system (I have a feeling that only one or two people will have even heard of it...).

Just as a matter of interest, what sizes do people aim for when writing fanfics? Do you aim for a word count? Number of pages? How long is the "average" fanfic?
