I had heard about this petition to cancel Metroid Prime: Federation Force going on at Change.org and had to see it for myself.  Sure enough, it exists.

To the "fans" of the game:  I know it's not what you want in a Metroid game.  I understand you are upset about that.  However, that is no reason to cancel the game.  In fact, doing so may very well send the wrong message to Nintendo.

Let the game happen.  Who knows?  IT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE GOOD!

Anyways, I see this petition as silly and will accomplish nothing even if it gets enough supporters.  What do you all think?

What's hilarious is that Nintendo could have averted a reaction like this by just doing what they did when they first released Metroid Prime. Metroid Fusion came out around the same time as a somewhat more traditional alternative in case 'Prime' didn't work out. For the life of me, I wish I knew why they didn't do the same now.

I'm not surprised by the existence of this petition. This new Metroid game doesn't even feature Samus as the main character, which I'm sure is a turn off to some fans of the franchise. I doubt this petition is going to work, anyway. I think the game will be finished and released, and I don't think it's going to be that bad. It does look like it'll be fun.

Of course, I would have rather they made a Metroid game that took place after Metroid Fusion. There's potential in that. I mean, by the end of the game, there is no doubt she'd become wanted by the Galactic Federation for blowing up that station. Either she's now the target of all GF or just that rogue faction that bred different animals.

And the GF would be a bigger threat to her than the Space Pirates were. Think about it. They know enough of her suit to know how to submit weapons that work with her system (Metroid Fusion), and they had operated on her to remove parts of her suit without killing her since her suit is a part of her body and not just an external set of armor (Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime 3). And Adam in Metroid Other M knew how to disrupt her suit and knock her out with a single blast to an area on her back (again Samus can feel through the suit; remember Metroid Prime and the pained grunts she made if she even touched a geemer? or when she's in lava?).

The only reason Samus has an edge over the pirates is because they don't understand how her suit functions all that well. The GF knows a lot more, and thus can take advantage of any weaknesses she has and pose a bigger threat to her.

I would love to play a Metroid game with that premise. But I am willing to give this game a try. If I had a Nintendo 3DS that is.
