Ducky Showcase - April 2019

I concur with the assessment of Ducky that OwlsCantRead said. Yep yep yep! She has that aura, charisma and charm with her that could really influence many people with positive thoughts. She could really brighten up anyone's day! Her heart is as powerful as the burning mountain and the bright circle. Yellow is the perfect color for her that matches the personality. Also, that style of dialect she uses is rubbing off of me, sometimes I reference it in real life. Yep yep yep! Funnily enough, I love to be such a realist or pessimist in real life. I always see the negative before the positive, or maybe I just enjoy it? Don't worry, I still try to be optimistic.

I support what the others have said! I think it characterizes Ducky that she very often thinks positively. I'm also thinking of the original movie that, although she lost her family after the terrible earthshake, she still went to Littlefoot in a good mood.

Well, what happened to the Sky Color Stones... I think this proves that every person, even the one you would least expect from, has some surprising inner behavior that is shown only seldom. But one has to accept that too, because everyone is individual.

She is a good friend and a very important part of the Gang of Five! Yep Yep Yep!

Most of what has already been sums up my opinion of Ducky, I like her compassion and innocence. I think she grew as a character during the tv episode 'The Search for Sky Colour Stones' It acknowledged that she was not perfect and that she had a dark side and by the end of the episode Ducky had accepted and overcome her dark side. I also like her dynamic with Spike, it makes her more relatable, showing the bond they have with each other. However my opinion of Ducky has changed the greatest out of any of the main cast or any LBT character in general ever since I started writing my fanfic; The Swimmer Trials.

I can't help but see two versions of Ducky, the original as portrayed in the movie, sequels and tv series and the one that is in my story, I find them so similar but different at the same time.

And I also do have a my first attempt at a Ducky drawing which I have never put up.

I can only second what everyone has said. Ducky is indeed the sweetest member of the Gang and it's very difficult not to like her. She has constantly been a loyal member of the Gang and her presence alone has helped the others through many dark situations. She has had many great moments but one of my favorites is the Family song as in addition to being extremely emotional, it also showcased just how much she cares about others (especially her brother) and her inner thoughtfulness and perhaps deeper than expected outlook on the world. My only problem with her is that aside from that one episode and the eighth film, we never saw any darker sides in her which may make her rather one-sided too often. I like even good characters having serious flaws but the swimmer has few of them. But in the end, I really like Ducky's character greatly. Also, great job Flathead and TLD!

What are your thoughts on Ducky?  Also, how do you think she has developed over the course of the original film and sequels?

Ducky certainly does seem to have a crush on Petrie, doesn't she? Which is pretty cute, although personally, I fall a bit more into the Littlefoot x Cera and/or Littlefoot x Ali camp.

Regardless, Ducky is definitely one of my favourite characters. My favourite Ducky moment is when she and Littlefoot meet for the first time. He's still emotionally torn apart with grief and despair. But, despite having been separated from her own family, she's able to cheer him up and restore his motivation to find the Great Valley. In fact, it's the loss of her family that causes Littlefoot to bond with her. Such a sweet moment.

I do feel that she was occasionally underdeveloped in the sequels, however.

I don't know what they were thinking with that Sky Color Stones episode, and as a matter of fact, Aria Curzon herself admitted that she disliked the way her character behaved in The Big Freeze. At least I can say she showed just a bit of crucial character development in that film.

While I haven't seen the Sky Color Stones episode yet, I find it interesting that Aria Curzon feels that way regarding The Big Freeze. Conversely, Ducky was one of the highlights of that film for me, precisely because it was one of the films that developed her the most. Also, as Sovereign said...

Agreed. Having a dark side to contrast with her normally sweet nature is an aspect of her character I wish had been explored further.

I can just imagine trying to be "evil" but instead she fails miserably and just ends up looking more adorable than ever!
But at the same time, it would horrify me to know that she can have malicious thoughts or intent as well. Either way, it would make me love her a lot more as well if we can see a more diverse character explored out of her.

I don't think it's an aspect of her that we needed to see a lot of, nor did it need to manifest in the same way as Cera's rough edge. I envision Ducky as being more subdued with her anger, but it would ultimately be more frightening than with Cera because you wouldn't expect it coming from Ducky. Hmm, maybe I should write an LBT story sometime with that in mind.
