No, but it would increase the likelihood of it.  After all, they would be focusing all their energy, time, and money into a sequel as opposed to both a sequel and a bunch of little mini movies.

Not really. See, even though they're made by the same company, they're very likely worked on by seperate groups. Just because they have both a series and a sequel has no bearing on the quality of either, since each group focuses on one project. And just because the TV series dies, doesn't mean the people working on it will then work on the sequels. It's more likely that they'll go on to work on other TV shows for the same company.
