Sorry I haven't been very active lately.  I got the worst worm/virus/malicious program EVER!!!  The thing couldn't be detected by anything.  What it did was disable everything I had to control my computer including my task manager, control panel, documents, and I even lost access to the C drive even in the commnd prompt!  In addition, it would download TONS of malicious software from the internet including popup crap.  I could remove everything that it downloaded, but not the malicious software that was downloading all the crap!  In addition, this worm/virus automatically infected any other device you connected to the computer.  It infected my external hard drive, 2 flash drives, and my cell phone(my phone is the advanced kind you can connect to the computer to share files and stuff).  Luckily, the worm/virus didn't transfer itself to the devices, but just downloaded crap to them.  I was also very fortunate that it didn't go over my network to my personal server, my business server, and my LBT server (the one where the LBT TV eps and other LBT material is hosted).  I did a virus/worm/spyware scan on my ENTIRE 40tb server.  It took 2 weeks.  I've been very busy lately.  Everything seems to be back to normal, but we'll see.  I have wiped all of the infected computers and everything seems to be okay now.  It was an interesting week to say the least.  I've been working so hard that I've lost all track of time.  I don't even know what day it is right now.......*Looks at calender*.......Now I do! :D Anyway, I'm very glad this thing didn't infect over my network.  I'd be in a world of hurt right now having over 200 infected computers.  I'd have to close down my repair shop if it had gotten into my server.  Everything runs off that.  I even connect client computers to it!

Dude, you lost me at "C-drive." But sounds like things are cooling down over there. That's good.

One small question: I recently went onto your secure GoF only place, the one that's password-protected. Could the virus have gotten to me from there?

Glad you have things working again.  Sounds like you went through a lot.

Yikes!  What do you think caused you to get that in the first place?

Anyways, I'm glad you got rid of it.  It would've been a shame to have lost your computer to something like that, huh? :(

Not a chance.  As I said above, the virus/worm was unable to transfer through a server.

I downloaded stuff I knew had a good chance of being infected (and no it wasn't porn.  I can't speak of the kind of material I downloaded because it would violate forum rules.).  I knew that my system could handle it but this obviously was a new worm that didn't have a cure yet.  If I had just waited a few days I'm sure AVG and Spybot would have had an update for it, but I can't be out of commission like that for any more than a few hours.

I don't know why I'm surprised, but you don't know much about how viruses/worms act like 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the other population.  At current THERE ARE NO VIRUSES THAT CAN DESTROY HARDWARE ON THE INTERNET.  The worst thing that can happen is you have to replace your hard drive because you're a moron and don't know how to get the virus off.  There was one virus in history that could destroy hardware, but its creator is unknown and it was eradicated in 1995.  I can't say anymore because of a hacker oath that I maintain.  I can tell you that there's no chance at current that a virus could destroy a computer.

Oops!  Said the last thing the wrong way. :bang

When I said "lost", I tried to mean in the terms of how the worm functioned.  You pointed out that whatever it was made you lose control of a number of things, as well as download stuff you wouldn't, right?  I was basically going around this when I said the last term.  I was just trying to say something that fit the worm's main function, and obviously I said it the wrong way.

(I seriously need to get myself a better vocabulary.) Once again, sorry. :(

Well play with fire like that and you're bound to get burned.

Yeah, no kidding.  That's why I have a separate computer that I use for downloading dangerous material to so that if that thing gets a virus and needs to be wiped, it's no big deal.  I was being lazy and I made 100 times more work for myself in the process. -_- Why couldn't it just have infected my laptop?  I don't hardly use that thing for anything but web browsing.
