Of course, I should've read the 'system can get unstable or crash' a bit better before pressing the heal button.

This morning I downloaded an update from my logitech webcam, installed it and rebooted the computer. The first thing that came up was AVG with a warning message about a Trojan file in one of those windows folders, where all the dlls are stored. So I pressed heal, in the hope of that it would just be destroyed.

Instead of that it gave a warning message, but I pressed heal anyway. It gave this message before a couple of times and nothing had happened so, I thought it would be fine.

But now my poor computer won't start anymore. After the second windows xp loading thingy it just crashes and restarts all over again.

Any help is welcome! :cry2

Edit: Alright, I figured that user32.dll is missing.. So that one got deleted.

Can you get a copy from another pc that will work, or somewhere online, or the windows install disc?

I've tried to fix it, could get back in windows thanks to Aaron's help :)

After that I did a virus scan and like 5 trojans were moved to a virus fault, and two would require a reboot. Which I did. And thesame problem occured again. We're going to send it to a shop to see if they can get it off better than us.

I'm typing this from my own(my room's) computer which is our main computer for a while now.

I could be wrong, but I think there might be a way to get that file back. I think that file might be available on the XP disc if you have it available. I don't know how you could move it over though. I'd have to ask my brother. He was able to recover a missing file by loading it from the XP disc.

Edit: Okay I found some instructions that might be able to help. These came from the official Microsoft site.

Quote
Missing or Damaged User32.dll File
Use Recovery Console to replace the corrupted or damaged User32.dll file, then, if needed, perform an in-place upgrade (also called a repair install) of Windows XP. To do so follow these steps: 1.   Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. Select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive if you are prompted to do so.
2.   When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start Recovery Console.
3.   If your computer is configured for dual booting or multiple booting, select the relevant Windows XP installation.
4.   When you are prompted to do so, type the administrator password, and then press ENTER.

NOTE: In Windows XP Home Edition, the administrator password is\ blank by default.
5.   At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
cd windows\system32
6.   To rename the User32.dll file, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
ren user32.dll user32.bak
7.   To expand a new copy of the User32.dll file from the Windows XP CD-ROM to the System32 folder, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
expand cd-rom:\i386\user32.dl_ c:\windows\system32
where cd-rom is the drive letter for the drive that contains the Windows XP CD-ROM, and c:\windows is the drive letter and folder in which Windows XP is installed.
8.   Type exit, press ENTER, and then restart the computer.

If Windows XP still fails to start, you may need to perform an in-place upgrade (also called a repair install)

Yep, XP reinstall disc will (or should) fix this.  You always got to be careful about web updates for stuff.

I tried that, but the file immediatly got infected again.

After all we tried moving the dll file with an usb stick, that worked, but it was infected as well. On the usb stick and the computer.. So I'm afraid not either of these helps... It just stays there.. somehow.

Put a trial of Kaspersky Internet Security on your computer (its good for 30 days) and cream whatever it is.  You need to try some different trojan removal tools because AVG is obviously ineffective on this thing.

D***.  I wish I could help you mumbling.  I would just give you a copy of xp lite and/or portable xp.  The portable version of xp has tons of tools for removing horrible viruses and since it runs totally from a CD and doesn't even touch the HD, there's no way it could infect the CD or further infect the HD.  XP Lite is around 500mb and Portable XP is like 650mb.  Both are much to0 large for me to transfer to you using my neighbors WIFI.  He has a 700k connection and I'm getting like 120kps. :( It'd take a few hours to download and I can't maintain a connection for that long.  Sorry.  I guess you'll just have to get screwed by a selfish repair tech in your area.

EDIT:  That is unless you can wait about a month for me to get to where I'm going.

I just put the dll file back, after one day, via my usb stick from one to another computer. AVG didn't tell me anything about a virus anymore and computer is still runing fine.

Because I had AVG remove the file again. Didn't really get the problem :p

And yes Kor, everything works fine :)
