In LBT 2 during "One of us now" Petrie says, "I teach you how to flyyyyyyy!!"  Yes, he said "I"! Can you believe we overlooked this?!

He's said "I" before.

In the first movie, when Petrie meets Littlefoot and Ducky, he does say, "I-I fly?" and when Ducky said he fell instead, he says, "I fall?!".

And later in the movie, when Sharptooth inadvertently makes Petrie fly, he says, "I flying!" Either that or it was "I'm flying!"

While I cannot pinpoint the thread I am also pretty sure that it was mentioned some years ago when Petrie's language came up in some context (not sure if it was a thread completely about Petrie's language).

Petrie's "I teach you to fly" has been mentioned here. Pokeplayer wrote the lyrics of "You're One Of Us Now" from memory, and Petrie's "I"s are duly noted. Later on, Petrie corrected some of his lines, but also saw nothing wrong with the "I"s. So, that makes at least two members who knew about this in 2006. I have no doubt that many more knew this as well.

The language viewing is different to what they are taught.  Probably has nothing to do with Petrie though, but its got something.

It seems though that the words in songs are sometimes different than what they would actually say. There's a lot of occurrences of using the actual word for something instead of the LBT term, such as sun instead of bright circle, because it was just easier to write these songs using shorter words. So messing up (or fixing ) Petrie's speech kind of falls into that too.

In Who Needs You from Land Before Time 4, Ichy says "July". It's a safe bet that it was only used for the context of the song and that Ichy really didn't know what July was. I don't think the characters know what months are; they only see the seasons since they happen before their eyes.

^ The German translation of that song is even worse. While they did not use July but the (arguably less critical) "summer" Ichy uses the word water closet (WC) in the German translation.
