NOTE: Although I'm posting this in the Silver Screen section, you can apply it to any series, whether it be book, game, show, or movie.
I've often read comments on message boards by readers/viewers that are fans of particular series that they felt the final entry in the series just wasn't quite a proper, or fitting, finale.
This is a multi-part question.
1. What series do you like did you think had a good final episode/film/game/book?
2. What series did you like did you think not have a good final installment?
3. (This can apply to a series still going on or one you thought didn't have a good finale) If you could have ended a series earlier than it did, what would you have made the final installment?
Here's some of my answers to my questions
Series I thought had satisfying finales: Avatar, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Harry Potter, the original Spyro trilogy, the Poltergeist series (However, it would've been better if they took the bolt of lightning out at the end of 3), and the Scream series.
Series where I thought the finale could've been the better: The original 8 Halloween movies (Resurrection was a poor final film, other than the death of Laurie, nothing felt "final" about it.), Nightmare on Elm Street (Even though Freddy's Dead technically wasn't the last one), An American Tail (Didn't hate 3 or 4, but they felt like episodes of a tv series), the first season of TDI (Only cause I wanted Gwen to win.)
If I could change when a series ended: For the original Halloween series, I would have made part 6 (The Curse of Michael Myers) the last in the series, more specifically the producer's cut version, because of Michael's backstory being explained and I felt the final shot (The candle in the jack-o-lantern extinguishing) was the perfect way to end the franchise.
For NOES, even though I love Part 5, I felt Part 4 (The Dream Master), had more of a final feel to it, mainly for the method Freddy was defeated (The souls of his victims being freed and extracting their revenge.)
For Friday the 13th, I actually would've had the finale being Jason Takes Manhattan. It was the last one made by Paramount, and I felt it would've had the franchise end with full-circle. (Jason being turned back into a kid, or at least Rennie hallucinating her did.)
So, what do you guys think?
