The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Propper finales...

NOTE: Although I'm posting this in the Silver Screen section, you can apply it to any series, whether it be book, game, show, or movie.

I've often read comments on message boards by readers/viewers that are fans of particular series that they felt the final entry in the series just wasn't quite a proper, or fitting, finale.

This is a multi-part question.

1. What series do you like did you think had a good final episode/film/game/book?

2.  What series did you like did you think not have a good final installment?

3. (This can apply to a series still going on or one you thought didn't have a good finale) If you could have ended a series earlier than it did, what would you have made the final installment?

Here's some of my answers to my questions

Series I thought had satisfying finales: Avatar, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Harry Potter, the original Spyro trilogy, the Poltergeist series (However, it would've been better if they took the bolt of lightning out at the end of 3), and the Scream series.

Series where I thought the finale could've been the better: The original 8 Halloween movies (Resurrection was a poor final film, other than the death of Laurie, nothing felt "final" about it.), Nightmare on Elm Street (Even though Freddy's Dead technically wasn't the last one), An American Tail (Didn't hate 3 or 4, but they felt like episodes of a tv series), the first season of TDI (Only cause I wanted Gwen to win.)

If I could change when a series ended: For the original Halloween series, I would have made part 6 (The Curse of Michael Myers) the last in the series, more specifically the producer's cut version, because of Michael's backstory being explained and I felt the final shot (The candle in the jack-o-lantern extinguishing) was the perfect way to end the franchise.

For NOES, even though I love Part 5, I felt Part 4 (The Dream Master), had more of a final feel to it, mainly for the method Freddy was defeated (The souls of his victims being freed and extracting their revenge.)

For Friday the 13th, I actually would've had the finale being Jason Takes Manhattan. It was the last one made by Paramount, and I felt it would've had the franchise end with full-circle. (Jason being turned back into a kid, or at least Rennie hallucinating her did.)

So, what do you guys think?

Good endings:

 :confused

Can't think of any now

Bad endings:
  • The Land Before Time (make 14th already, come on!)
  • The Animals of Farthing Wood (make a 4th season, come on. Give Adder another mate, or reveal Sinuous to be alive!)
  • The Pebble and the Penguin (should've done atleast 1 sequel)
  • Surf's Up (should've done atleast 1 sequel)
  • Anacondas (if you've seen the end of Trail of Blood, you know what I mean)
  • Python (if you've seen the end of Boa vs. Python, you know what I mean)
  • Tremors ( :anger Stupid Universal! Give Stampede the rights to the films, and let the make the movie already!)
  • Stephen King's The Mist (every one hates the ending!) :rolleyes
  • Sand Serpents (why'd they choose the main character to die?)

Good Endings:

Kamen Rider Doulbe/W - There's just nothing wrong with the last couple of episodes. Hope the crossover movie doesn't mess it up too bad...

Kamen Rider Blade - More of a tearjerker than W, but still a good way to end the series.

Kamen Rider Agito - A pretty satisfying ending for most of the characters. Especially the twist at the end with the villain.

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger - Simply for not letting the final villain be a major letdown like quite a few recent Sentai have.

Bad Endings:

Kamen Rider Hibiki - It just felt like nobody accomplished anything. The villains are just as fine as ever and a lot of the characters walk away from the heroic path, one who spent most of the series training for it.

Kamen Rider Decade - The continuity of the whole series is very jumpy. The series ends in a cliffhanger and then the movie that really ends the series, opens without addressing the series cliffhanger at all and ends up massively different from the movie previews they gave earlier. Very poor planning here.

Most Sentai series just end with the heroes beating down the villains without a whole lot of difficulty nowadays. Rather anti-climatic.

Blue Beetle - The fact that it ended at all was the problem, but there was quite a few unresolved things in the series. And with his only appearances being in team-up books now, it's unlikely we'll see a lot of his neat supporting cast.

Series that had good endings:

Lord of the Rings - while Return of the King was a bit dragging towards the end, the story tied up nicely in both the books and the movie.

Harry Potter - the perfect ending in the books. Hopefully the movie can do the same.

The Matrix - People argue that Revelations was terrible. I wouldn't say that, although it wasn't as good as the first two. However, I think the ending worked perfectly. If you haven't seen it, I won't spoil it, but it worked perfectly for me.

That's all I can think of at the moment

Series that had bad endings:

Beside LBT,

Halo - Halo's endings have been up and down. The ending to Halo 1 was great, the ending to Halo 2 completely sucked, and the ending to Halo 3 was okay.

YuGiOh Season 0 - The original Japanese season before the official American Dub is actually awesome. The show is much darker and contains more violence and profanity. The story is actually quite good and Yami Yugi, or Dark Yugi as he is called, is much cooler than his American counterpart. It only lasted I think 27 episodes, and then the Duelist Kingdom series picked it up.

I really can't think of anything else at this point.

Series I would end early if given the chance:

Pirates of the Caribbean - Now don't get me wrong. I love all three of the Pirates movies. They are all awesome. Having said that, I think the second two did not need to be made. They were on one story while the first was on a different one. I would have just made Curse of the Black Pearl and kept it there.

Halloween - I would have kept the first two, and then skipped to Halloween H20 and made that the final movie. The rest of the movies did not need to be made. Halloween was an amazing story, and Halloween 2 continued on that same story and made it even better. It could have stopped there, and then years later Halloween H20 could have come out and officially end Laurie Strode's storyline.

Pokemon - I'm sorry, I know a lot of people still enjoy Pokemon, but the I gotta say the anime is pushing it, as well as the game series. I would have stopped after Gold and Silver for the games, and for the anime stop after Master Quest. The three friends officially split up, despite Brock returning in the next season, but that was an emotional episode that would have been an effective closing to the anime.

YuGiOh GX - I would have never created that show. I'm sorry, but it's not good. The storyline pales in comparison to the original, the characters are less likable, and the monsters were getting very ridiculous.
