Cars: Two-seater vs 5

Well, still haven't got myself some wheels <_<

I'll probably have to go with a two-seater comercial car, because I haven't had any offers of a 5 seat one. For those of you who own cars, what are the advantages? Since, I'm single and my group of friends hardly go out by car, I won't be giving a lot of rides, still what do you think?

It really depends what you want the car for. Remember, if you get a 2-seater you won't be able to haul much stuff with you....Ever.

If you ever need to move a piece of furniture (small table or chair), a computer and monitor, it may not fit in such a small car. Same with moving people. There may come a time when you wish you had one or two more seats.

Just think: How likely is it that you will need more space than a 2-seater can offer, both for passengers and for cargo? How bad would it be if such a situation came up and you couldn't fit everything or everyone you needed to?

If you ever have to move stuff, five seater and a trunk is perfect for just one person. I don't feel my car is too big. Avg of 35mpg. Can't do much better unless I had a hybrid. Go for the 5...there will probably be that one time you were wishing you had the five seater for whatever reason.

I don't have a car and very rarely need to borrow one from my parents. But this is mainly due to the place where I live. Most nearby spots here can be reached faster, cheaper, and more comfortably by means of public transportation (the much the more comfortable as I'm a very poor driver and all too aware of it which doesn't contribute to make me feel "at ease" behind a wheel). Whenever larger distances have to be covered or more than light luggage needs to be carried the car is the better choice though (I sure hope that they lower the long distance tickets' prices to a reasonable level in order to make the trains a better choice over long distances and thereby limit the number of CO2 exhealing cars on the road. At the moment there are many places you can reach by plane for less money, which sure is not the way it should be <_<).

Lol, you misunderstood me. It's not a 2-seater like a sports car, it's a comercial one. For cargo there's no prob, you can't get a bigger trunk than that. I'd prefer a 5-seater, but there's no one available right know and for some reason I have to choose between two cars they're offering me now. I don't need a car untill september, oh well.

The one I was going to buy - just decided to drop the deal and wait for something else - was exactly like this one:

Renault Clio

2-seater, comercial, diesel, 100 000 km - that's the type of car I can get under my price range (maximum bid of 3500 euros - 4710 dollars). What I'd like is a 5-seater, diesel car, but those are hard to find and expensive.

A two door version of that would be awfully small, no? I still would go for the four door model if you could.

Lol, there's no difference between the size of the two door and the four door, the only yhing that changes is that the two door has a huge trunk instead of back seats. It's a comercial version, store owners use them to move things around. Don't you have these over there?

They're not exactly common, but there are ones like a Civic hatchback from Honda or Ford's Focus hatchback. You certainly can't fit too much in them, but great on gas I'd imagine.

Looks like I'm going to buy a 5-seater, Toyota Corolla from 94. It's not a car I'd fancy,
but it's cheap, well-equiped and it even has GPL (I don't know if you guys call it the same, but it's a car that runs on gasoline and has a natural gas deposit, so it can run on both).

It's like this one, but it has a dark grey colour:

I don't like big cars, but this one is alright, it'll be a drag to park it in Porto, oh well.

What do you guys think?

I'm yet to secure myself a set of wheels (working on it though) but I'd definitely be looking to something in the way of a 5-door car. More so for practicality reasons. Between me and my friends, we always give each other lifts to and from places as and when needed (or if someone needs to play designated driver). A 5-door vehicle will be much better suited for my kinda situation. Plus I'll have my brother and sister to ferry around I'm sure once I pass my test.

I know for sure that my budget will be very limited but as long as it'll get me from A to B without breaking down every 2 miles or start rattling when it hits 30 mph, I think I'll be happy.

Like my friends, I'll probably follow the trend and get a compact or small hatchback. Something like a Vauxhall (might be called Opel elsewhere) Corsa or Nissan Micra or a Renault Clio.

Obviously all these cars look immaculate coz they're showreel vehicles...obviously I'd be looking second hand...or maybe seventh hand...depends on my financial situation once I pass!

Looks like mine, only mines a bit newer (1999). That will last for quite some time and they're nice for commuting in city traffic and just the right size if you invite a few friends along for the ride every now and then.

I'm growing fond of the car, the only thing is that it's so big, parking will be a huge problem. Oh well, at least my university has parking facilities =P

Those are all good choices Littlefoot1615, we call them Opel around here. The dealer that's selling me this corolla tried to sell me a corsa from 2002 for 7000 euros, but I can't afford that. I road on a clio, it's a nice car, but I hate the way they designed the handel.To put in rear, you push it to the front, how weird is that?!

Be carefull with Nissan Micra, they consume a lot of gas, try to get the diesel version.

I drove mine today, and went to fill both tanks. This gas thing is pretty neat, 40 Lt (about 10 gallons) of gas = 22 euros ($ 30) as for 40 Lt of gasoline = 45 euros ($ 60)
