The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Name the critter you find to be the scariest.

Bugs, insects, arachnids, snakes, etc.

What's the scariest for you?

I'll give mine later.

Post away! :)

Dead insects/spiders/invertebrates in general (live ones don't bother me as much)

Pretty much everything in Australia, even down where I live there's stuff that wants to eat your soul. We have Snakes, Tassie Devils, Spiders, Very Big Ants (Jack Jumpers), Ticks, Leaches, Mosquitoes, Feral Cats, Feral Children, more Snakes, and Possums... I hate Possums.

Of all these the only that freaks me out is spiders, but there are tons of 'critters' I dislike.
  • Spiders :p
  • Scorpions
  • Ticks
  • Mosquitoes
  • Flies
  • Pnats
  • Piranhas
  • Fire Ants
  • Bull Dog Ants (they bite, and don't let go unless you crush the head or burn it)
  • Vipers and Adders (excluding Adder and Sinuous)

^ But they can make such funny faces D8 ! And adders are so...not dangerous at all. A bite from them would be like smashing your thumb with a hammer! It might hurt, but it doesn't do anything. 'Tis one of those things where you really have to know your stuff. And let me tell you, my python gets quite the puppy-faces a ton of times the little brat.  Heck, even spiders somehow manage to look cute sometimes XD !

My brother is a bit freaked out by wasps. His thing is "It's possible to make a bee look cute, but you can't do that with a wasp." I-beg-to-differ!
If there's any animal I find to be scary-looking, it's in the waaaaaay deep ends of the sea along side the anglers and gulperfish =P . But those little "Blorp fish" as I call 'em somehow manage to be creepy/cute. And parasites. Uuuugh. Parasites of any sort. Especially tapeworm and heartworm.

I can't think of any vertebrates I find scary. Eye-Eyes are a bit scary looking, but we all know that they're no harm at all...unless you're a termite.

I've got three of these huge spiders in my yard. They look scary but they're just harmless garden spiders.:D

What's so scary about flies and gnats?

I didn't say that there scary, in the post I said that I REALLY dislike them. Only 'critters' that really freaks me out are spiders, fire ants and bull dogs.

Ah I see. Well the topic is called "scariest critters", so that's why I thought you believed they were scary. That and I misread your earlier post.

Although...horse flies ARE quite the nasty little things
(Though, it is kinda funny to watch my young 18-pound cat pounce on one and eat it)

Aw, and bull dogs are scweet! I think they're on the "friendliest dogs" list...despite what they were bred for, which would be bull (bovine) fighting. Hence why they look so ugly.

True, and my cat ate hornet once, what was she thinking?

Because small flying insects=fooood, that's why.
'Course, the fly thing with my cat amazed me because I didn't expect her to catch it in the first place...what with all her fat and fluff.

Oh dear me D:

I tend to go by looks or acts. such as hornet or bees - I have never been sting but man I'm terrified of them. I'm a tomboy and even I scream like a girl when running from them.

I'm very scared of roaches and spiders ( especially the big ones, dear lord save me D: ). Thinks like ticks and fleas give me the jitters too. Bats too can scare me at times, but I found them more fascinating than scary

One of my siblings is afraid of bees as well but this is mostly attributed to her being slightly allergic to them. Me, I don't mind bees or wasps and get confused when people freak out because of one. I go by the "you leave them alone, they leave you alone" kind of mentality.

What I've read is that reactions to adder bites vary, like bee stings. For some people, it CAN be fatal if the bite is not treated, but adders are far from the most dangerous venomous snake out there.

I love snakes (all reptiles, really), and some of the ones that fascinate me most are venomous species. I'd rather not share my home with any of the kinds that could kill you, but that's just concern for self-preservation. :p Same goes for sharks, spiders, stingrays, scorpionfish, bears, big cats, and other potentially dangerous animals.

I second that! Have you ever seen a jumping spider? They're adorable! :DD

Also, great picture, F-14! Garden spiders are gorgeous! :D

Personally, I think both bulldogs and aye-ayes are cute. :smile Aye-ayes mainly eat grubs, by the way, as well as fruit and nuts (A termite’s worst nightmare would be either ants or a pangolin :p). Sadly, some local people in Madagascar believe aye-ayes to be a harbingers of death and misfortune, and kill the poor things on sight. :cry

Blorp fish…is that your catch-all term for weird deep-sea fish? If so, then you’re not alone in thinking they look “creepy-cute”. ;)

I’ll name my own scariest critters later.

Pronounced "pan-JEE-uh". Spelled with three A's. Represented by a Lystrosaurus.

I find the following critters to be scary:

*Arachnids (spiders and scorpions)
*Centipedes
*Venomous snakes (nonvenomous, not so bad)

There is one group of organisms that I feel are scarier anything I have listed or seen listed in this topic, and they are:

PARASITES

These guys, such as tapeworms and roundworms, cannot be seen beforehand but somehow manage to find their way into your system and attack your innards, live off your nutrients, and cause terrible (and possibly fatal) health conditions.  They're nasty little buggers and hard to discover and get rid of.  Don't believe me?  Watch "Monsters Inside Me" to get a better idea on what these guys are capable of :x  :x.

I'd much rather deal with a pissed-off bear than a parasite.
