The Gang of Five
The forum will have some maintenance done in the next couple of months. We have also made a decision concerning AI art in the art section.

Please see this post for more details.

Okay, I've had enough with this AD.

I have been seeing an ad for quite a few days on this board and I am getting tired of it.  This particular ad starts with showing a credit card number of sorts and then this red monster comes by and eats it up.  After which, it shows "Beware of Snatchers" and tells you to get Link Scanner.

Now, normally, Google Ads wouldn't be a problem as they often relate to what people are actively interested in at the moment.  However, this one really gets the annoyance based on the FACT that it appears even in places that it's not related.  Movies, Games, Music and a number of others.  It's annoying!

I know it's asking a lot, but can't we talk to Google or do something about it?  It's really getting on my nerves. -_-

First off, that's not an ad by Google.  They'd have a little link on the bottom right corner if it was.  Invisionfree seems to use both Google ads and self promoted ads.  Only the Google one's are shown as sorta relevant to whatever's on the page.

Secondly there's no such thing as a good ad and complaining about them isn't going to get you anywhere.  We want the forum, we put up with ads.  That's the way the internet works.

Sorry but it's NOT a Google ad.  They ALWAYS put an "ads by google" link at the bottom right corner of their ads.  Invision only uses Google ads when it absolutely has to because they get 100% commission from their own ads and would much rather have them on their pages then Google's.  AVG actually approached Invisionfree and asked to purchase ad space.  They bought a heck of a lot of it too because that's the only ad I'm seeing today. :p

Scroll over the new 'trend' one or whatever it is, the red one. Look at the bottom of the your screen, the link is to like googleads.doubleclick.dnjgnfkg, it doesn't say google ads on it.

I know.  It says that because it uses part of Google's ad delivery system which is hosted on Google's servers.  Those ads aren't really Google's.  They're just using Google based ad delivery.  It's not as sophisticated, but they're able to get 100% commission.  Google lets it's partners use a not-so-advanced delivery system for their own ads and offers more sophisticated systems for it's paying members.  I used to mess with Google ads all the time.  I'd put them on my own website....but the only one I could do it nicely would be my LBT website and I'm keeping that sucker ad-less.  Ads suck and I'm not mucking up my LBT website with 'em.

We tried to go ad-free but its too expensive.  My trial $5.00 to get rid of the ads only lasted about three to four days.  Get an ad-blocker or a security suite that blocks ads (like Kaspersky--I see no ads on this board at all).

I just learn to ignore them. I do agree that ad has gotten a little annoying, but I only remember seeing it for the past few days. Some ads (like that social networking site with the two emo girls kissing) had been around much longer.

On a completely unrelated note, Alex, your animation was hilarious. Probably the first time :spit would be appropriate.  If only we could replace the real ad with that.

I have some plug ins in my firefox where I very rarely see ads when I websurf.  I've never seen any ads here.  Maybe the browser you use has some that do the same.

I have no ad blocker at all.  They really don't bother me enough to spend the 10 minutes it would take to find a decent ad blocker and install it. :p

Well, whatever happened, it's seemed to have stopped popping up... so far.  If it is gone, then I'm glad.  It was REALLY annoying. -_-
