The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

I have been looking into the area of Fair Use when it comes to Copyright for a while now.  It was a shallow area that made things hard to understand and follow, making many fans of different Copyright Material feel unanswered.  This is how I have felt with Land Before Time.

For a long time, I didn't know where my favorite franchise stood under the issue.  I was completely confused and lost.

However, after looking through an article under a certain link, I think I understand it more now.

It's a lot to read, but to make things simple, if you go down to the Four Factor Fair Use Test, ( http://www.utsystem.edu/OGC/IntellectualPr...pypol2.htm#test ) it will give you a basic idea of what to follow when bringing up this issue.

Keep this important thing in mind, if the first 3 factors puts your material of Copyright Infringement more under the area of Fair Use, the last factor is null and void and your work qualifies for Fair Use completely.

If it does not though, you may want to consider getting permission anyways.  It just gets more complicated after this and you will more likely lose in the end.

Now, after taking a look at this, (and testing your own material if you want) does it help you at all?  It has helped me.

However, it does question if some of the videos on YouTube that get deleted, muted or blocked actually fall under Fair Use.

What do you guys think of all this?
