King Kong!  It is a movie that is considered a classic.  It was one of the best old Black & White movies ever made.  However, every remake of it has been considered worse than the 1933 original.  That is until 2005, when one director made a remake of it that was considered by critics to be either just as good or better than the original, but is that true?  The Nostalgic Critic decides to finally answer that question.

This is Old vs New: King Kong!

To be honest, I was surprised by just how close this was. :)

I have to say, I don't agree with his final decision. Don't get me wrong, the original Kong is a classic and will always be treasured, but the remake got so many things right. I personally love Jack Black as the director, and I find the new Kong much better than the old one.

But then again, both are terrific in their own merits, so I'm not complaining.

One thing is that I'm amazed on how they made an old New York City over here using CGI.  I believe they used Wellington for that scene from what I recall.

I've never seen the old King Kong movie before, so I can't really decide ultimatly, but I can say that I did enjoy Peter Jackon's version of it.

the original was a classic, but the 2005 film was very good. Jackson was obessed with kong for a long long time  and got to make his obsession come true..
Winner of these:

I think this surprised a lot of people when it was first announced, but at the same time, I'm not surprised it was made. Considering how advance our technology was becoming, it was only a matter of time before Kong was remade using CGI. I mean I agree with NC, at the time of the original those stop motion effects were amazing. However, in my opinion they didn't age well. Also, they could have messed Kong up in the remake, but they didn't. He looks realistic (as realistic as a giant ape can be), and yet he almost has a human personality to him.
