The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Who am I?

This is actually about giving hints about people in history. If you are talking of this flag placing:
it would be four people. It is a posed photo though, and a flag had been hoisted on Iwo Jima before this famous photo was taken.

I just read about six people hoisting the flag two of whom are supposed to be in the background of the photo. I can't see them to be honest.

6 is correct. 3 of them are still alive, I believe. Your turn malte. I couldn't think of anyone to describe, so I picked the Iwo Jima landing.

Among many other stuff I became known for developing a simple way of "untying" a complicate knot.

Nope, I was much less peaceful minded than him, as was my way of untying the knot.

Nope! Attila did not cut the gordic knot. When I'm talking of the Gordic knot here, I refer to the historical one that did exist and whose cutting did coin the phrase. There was a prophecy according to which the one who could loose the knot should become the ruler of... a region of which the person who cut the knot in fact conquered a good part.

There are many other large bodies of water named after people though most of these are part of a larger Ocean.
The Chinese Sea (northern and southern) belong to the Pacific Ocean. So does the Japanese Sea. The Gulf of Mexico (named after the country rather than the people) is sort of a part of the Atlantic Ocean.
Is any of these bodies of water the one you are looking for?

Something just struck my mind. I have never before thought about it, but Atlantic, does it come from Atlantis? It's just a guess, I never read this, but it seems like a plausible guess.
According to Plato's description, beyond the pillars of Heracles (Gibraltar) is likely to refer to the Atlantic Ocean.

First, none of the answers are corrects. Second, the name Atlantic  does indeed come from Atlantis. according to legend, Atlantis was either an island or a continent located in the middle of what is now the Atlantic ocean.

I brought the light to the world and dropped out of my wedding party attended to my "hobby" in which I proved more productive than anyone else.
