Yeah, RAS's films were definitely more grounded and down-to-earth compared with Grovesnor's films. However, to Grovesnor's credit, I did notice the fantastical elements of those films were toned down quite a bit with Movies 8, 9, 11, and 12 (the latter two because they were more Great Valley-centric compared to other films, so there was no need to show off the "magical" things that laid in the Mysterious Beyond).
