Mercury is very poisonous " Nick said taking in the changed Douglass. " the first emporor of China died from mercury poisoning. He drank a mixture of mercury for almost ten years believing it would grant him immortality. in fact, it did the opposite. it left him a paranoid wreck and eventually killed him. so then how are you able to wear mercury in your armor?."

Douglas nods, "I heard about him. I do hope one of my poping around is not to his era. I wonder where they got the idea of drinking mercury. it does seem rather unusual. As for this stuff it's not really armor. I have 3 forms since the dragon wizard did what he did. It was one of my past adventures and I did a sort of favor for him and some knights of New Camelot, an ally country of his, and that is how he rewarded me. He said it looks like mercury but is an alchemical substance mixed with other things. I don't know what the process was since I was in a trance for the whole thing. It took about a week or so I think. He said part of what was in it was the magical essence of both metal & mercury, hense the same appearance to mercury. He said I was not human but a type of magical being & some other stuff. Though he did keep my human form so I can change into it as part of the process. Hope I'm not boring you to much." Douglas said.

Stripetail went over and looked at the trandformed Daouglas, with more interest now that he was revealed as a magical creature.,'was the wizard's name Merlin, or merryllin?' he asked, his eyes twinkling. "If so, I've heard of him before." He paused. "What he did is known to wizards as Tri-Forming. Its a creation of two distinct forms, in addition to your original form. You can have, Bi-Forming, Quad-forming, quint-forming, and so on, the more forms are created and tied into you, the longer it takes and the more magical energy it requires. it takes a wizard of great skill to do this, as the risks of something going wrong are quite substantial. The use of mercury, for example is only permitted under strict regulations where i come from, and only when combined with other magical elements in order to balance its toxicity. the rules may be different where you were i cannot say for sure. each dimension has its own rules..'

Talon also gave a shiver as he looked at his tail. "If this room gets any colder, I'll lose my tail to frostbite! Think you can spare another blanket, Kenji?"

But Kenji was already fast asleep...

"To keep us warm, I'll start a small blaze," Underdog chimed in. "That should put us in a warming phase!"

Before anyone could protest, Underdog whisps out of the room down into the dark hall, and soon returns with a large armfull of paper doilies.

Talon snorts. "That's a funny way to make paper..."

'It won't last long, as a single piece. But in tthese amounts.." Nick said. Nick took a handful of dollies and tossed a few to Stripetail. a couple of dollies fluttered to the floor. Stripetail grabbed them, gestured and the pawful of dolies ignited. " Quickly, put some of these into a pile.. and I'll toss these onto them"

Douglass looked at the doilies, thinking, "If you could compact them very tightly they may burn longer. I have an uncle who tightly packs newspaper into what looks sort of like logs and they last longer then if you toss in new papers by themselves."

Nick nodded. 'my folks compact them into balls, its the same idea." Nick dropped a handful of doilies on the floor next to Scooby and Dixie's cot. Stripetail rushed over, his doilies now nearly halfway burnt. He tossed them onto the pile, which slowly ignited. Stitch and Angel climbed onto Scooby's pillow and felt the heat rise up from the flames. they relaxed, as they stretched their arms out over the fire. "this much better" they said in unison.

Dixie and scooby soon followed suit.dixie took a deep breath as she felt the heat reach her paws. "Oh, does that feel good! Almost as good as a hot bath and a late night snack... low fat of course.. I have to watch my weight.." She added quickly. 'ratch rour reight?" Scooby repeated, snickering a little.. 'Cousin I'm not like you. I can't shovel down junk food by the trayful and not gain weight as a result. I don't know how you and Shaggy do it. By rights you should be over a hundred pounds, and shaggy should be around three hundred. '

Nick watched the blaze grow. It wouldn't last long without a constant supply of fuel, but at least it would heat things up for a bit. He walked over to the cot, and sat down, rubbing his eyes as he did. He looked over at Cynder. "Hey, Cynder... is it? You can breathe fire right? Well put a few fireballs on the fire.."

Douglas looked around a bit. Those who could do that and not set the place ablaze could take turns. I can go first, since in this form I never need to sleep." he said, "Unless someone else would rather go first."

Douglas looked at the floor to see what it was made of. "I could try to put the phaser on maximum spread and lowest power setting and see if it can heat the air." He said half to himself.

"Try and get to around 50, so people don't wake up covered in frost." nick said, taking another look at his thermometer. outside the range of the fire, it was now in the teens. The Continued drop in temperature was starting to rouse some of those still asleep.

Douglas thought for a moment. "Not sure about making fireballs, but I can do a continual flame if that would help. " Douglas said as he took out the Captain Pike era phaser. He set some of the settings, twisting areas of the barrel to set the power output to minimum, maximum spread and setting it from weapon to survival mode. "If it can heat up rocks and metal, this should heat up the air with such a feeble power output." He said.

He opened his mouth, aiming his head upward a bit and let out a foot or so of blue flame came from his mouth.

He aimed it at the air and pulled the trigger waived the gun around at the area near the ceiling. The near invisible beam lept out of the phase and started to heat up the air. He stopped after doing it for a few seconds to wait and see the effects.

Douglas continued with his flame. Hearing about the shurlups he reset his gun back to weapon mode and put it away into a pocket. He stopped the flames as he got an idea. He reached into an outside pocket and got out some chalk. Using this he went over to the fire and put several rune like marks around the fire. Then he put the chalk away and put his hands around the fire as he opened his mouth and aimed his fire at the fire already there.

He wasn't a wizard or sorcerer, but he had been taught some basic stuff he could do with fire, during his visits to various places. He put some power into the runes to make then glow and used them to help shape his fire into a sphere and keep it contained within the area. Thinking it may be a long night while everyone else slept he took out a headband that had a full computer in it, from one of the very futuristic places he had visited and put it on, putting one eyepiece over one of his eyes and one of the in ear earphones into an ear, leaving one eye and ear free to hear and see the real world easily without needing to flip up an eye piece or take out an earplug.

"I hope this is enough." He said.

He stopped his personal flame, maintaining the fire as best as he could, adding a flame now and then when needed.

the fire waxed and waned throughout the night, finally dying out as the first rays of dawnlight entered through a small window in the roof.
Stripetail was the first to rise, he was a light sleeper anyway in the best of times, and these weren't the best of times.

Dixie was next to stir. Last night had been a difficult one for her, both she and Scooby had accidently woken each other up during the night through tossing and turning and bumping into the other. She couldn't have gotten more than 4 hours of sleep in total. The aleins hadn't helped either. The fire had warmed up the top area of the cot, but not the lower half. so angel was cold to the touch, even through the blanket-dress she was wearing..
