"I just walked into another laboratory," Vic replied into the radio as he looked around. "There's no name of the scientist at the door." He now knows someone is nearby, but he can't find it in sight...

Snow took Neku's hand in hers. She didn't realize she did it until she had done it. Was it because she felt that Neku was cold, or was it something else...?

"Then let's get out of here before we run into yet any more unwanted company," Dr. Joe said, and she started out the room.

The hitman gave no facial response to the swordsman's crude act with his weapon. "It would be better than watching the others pre-occupying themselves..." he replied coldly.

Neku felt Snow's hand around his. For a moment, he hesitated, then he smiled at her.
"Hey... Thanks, Snow...Um..."
He hesitated, wondering what he should say to her to let her know how he felt...

James and the rest of the group entered Shelton's control room.

Zachary heard Vic's radio transmission. "Vic, are there any clues to what happened there? James, the Dhole and I will be on our way." he said into the radio. He then turned to Shelton. "Vic has found an lab but the nameplate that has the name of the scientists working there is missing."

"Neku, Snow, Dr. Joe, Hawkeye, Kagetora. My group will be heading to the sublevels after we come back from assisting Vic. We can understand if you don't want to join us but we need as much help as we can." James said, looking at the others in turn. He then turned to Shelton. "See if you can get some info on the sublevels."

The four armed scientists headed out from the cafeteria. The Human was wielding an M-16; the Beagle with an AK-47; the Bear with a Remington 870 shotgun; and the Shire draft horse with another Remington 870 shotgun.

"So what do we do if we run into the terrorists?" the Bear asked.

"Simple. Shoot them." the Beagle replied.

"Hold on a sec," Shelton held up a finger. Behind him, there was a whirring sound, and a glossy piece of paper slid out of a dirty, dented laser printer. Shelton handed it to James. "Here you go. An 8? by 11 layout of the lower levels. The dotted red line shows the pathway Cale & co. took through the sublevels all the way to room 8Z. The dashed blue line shows how they got back out."

Vic scanned the area of the room...and found a trail of blood leading to a body in a white lab coat. "Terrorists were in here," he replied to Shelton on the radio. "I found a dead scientist. He looks like someone's aide." He turned and found a switch on a nearby wall and flipped it, and the room brightened with overhead lights...

Snow realized that Neku was wondering what to say next. But a glance past his shoulder and she could clearly see the still-burning remains of the sublevel experiment just a few feet away. "Let's get out of here, first," she said with a shiver. "I don't like this place anymore..."

"Hopefully soon..." the hitman said, staring back down the dark hallway. "I sense prey is near..."

James pocketed the map. He then radioed Vic. "Vic, what is your position? " He turned to Zachary and Dhole. "We may have to help Vic."

They nodded and headed near James.

"Vic," radioed Shelton, "according to your position on the radar, I think you're in Dr. Kerzach's lab. He and his assistant, Eric Ashton, were working on a way to integrate the Swiss Large Hadron Colllider diagram on a molecular scale, to use mini black holes as a kind of weapon. I can guarentee the whole room's clear, except the utility closet, which is coated in lead because it was used to store unstable nuclear alloys right up to the last health and safety inspection. As a result, I can't see into it. There could be a legion of stormtroopers in there for all I know."

James overheard Shelton. He turned towards Shelton. "Thanks! We're heading to Dr. Kerzach's lab right now."

The Iguana guard and the Cobalt Squad soldiers stepped away from the group. "Shelton, we will stay behind to protect you." the Iguana guard said.

"Ok, we can't risk anything happening to Shelton." Zachary replied.

James turned to Zachary. "Ok, let's move out!"

James and his group left the control room and headed to Dr. Kerzach's lab. After about 30 minutes they encountered Vic inside the lab.

"Vic! You find anything significant?" James asked.

In the lab where the terrorists were planning their next move. A heavily built Brown Bear impatiently tapped the table.

"When are we going to make our move. I want to kill something." he said in a slightly Russian accented voice. He lovingly petted his weapon, a Winchester 1200 shotgun.

"Be patient." the terrorist leader said, "The commander may have something else in mind."

"Yeah, but do we really care what the commander wants out here. He's too busy building that bridge thingy to notice if we go kill one or two people," the bear grinned.

The leader shook his head. "We wait for the signal. You remember what happened to Udesky when he questioned the commander."

(OOC: I'll be away for the next six days or so. If you need Shelton to discover something, just radio him and have him give whatever response you need.)

After hearing Shelton's mentioning a lifesign inside the nearby utility closet, Vic watched the door closely, considering options until James' group arrived. "There's someone behind this door," he replied. "I thought it'd be safer with numbers, just in case of an unpleasant surprise..."

Dr. Joe was the first to arrive at the control room, followed by the others a few minutes later. "Anything new happened while we were gone?" she asked.

The hitman twirled his guns around, staring intensely into the darkness of the halls...

"Well, I'd say we open it." Zachary said.

"Remember, we don't know what's in there." James replied.

"We've been taking risks this whole time."

"Fair enough."

James then tried the door but it was locked. "Zach! Can you kick this door down?"

Zachary nodded and kicked the door several times but it still did not budge.

Zachary then turned to Vic. "Got anything we can use to break this door down?"

The Dhole was standing watch by the door.

Dr. Kerzach heard noises outside the door. He held his breath. Please be soldiers he thought.

The Iguana guard greeted Dr. Joe. "James, Zachary and the Dhole went off to assist Vic in a search."

The Dhole's stomach growled. "Guys, I'm going to get something to eat."

"See if you can get something like an ax or a sledgehammer." James replied.

Zachary had now resorted to battering the door with a nearby chair but the door still did not budge.

The Dhole then left the lab and headed towards the cafeteria. As she entered the cafeteria she noticed it was strangely quiet. She then headed to the deli section and helped herself to a fish sandwich. She then got a large salmon salad sandwich for James and a grilled vegetable sandwich for Zachary. She also grabbed another sandwich for Vic.

That'll do for now. She thought.

She suddenly got a strange sensation down her spine. "It feels like there's something here but I can't quite place it." she muttered.

She then left the cafeteria and passed by an emergency station containing a gas mask, a fire ax, a AED, a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher and a haz-mat spill kit.

She opened the station and grabbed the fire ax and headed back towards the lab.

She soon ran into the 4 armed scientists.

"Are you searching for survivors?" she asked.

"Yes. We have found no survivors." the man replied.

"We need to speak to Dr. James Zanasiu." the Beagle said.

The Dhole's fur bristled under her clothing. "He was gunned down by terrorists while attempting to protect his work."

"Very well. Pity that we have lost such a great scientist." the Bear said with a sigh. "Come on, we need to help the other survivors." The bear gestured with his shotgun.

The group then left down an adjacent hallway.

The Dhole went back to the lab where James and Zachary were located.

"James, I got your ax and some food. Vic, Zach I also got some food." The Dhole then placed the sandwiches on the lab bench and handed the ax to Zachary. "James, I encountered a group of scientists who said they wanted to speak to you. I told them that you were dead."

"Why did you tell them that I was dead? We could have gained some extra firepower." James said, frowning slightly.

"I just looked into the Beagle's eyes and it looked like he could kill as easily as I could run a magnetic accelerator test. And the rest of the group. In short I got a bad vibe from them. And that cafeteria seems to be hiding something." the Dhole replied.

James held his head in thought for a moment. "Hmm. We'll check out the cafeteria later. And I'll err on the side of caution and avoid those scientists for now."

(OOC - Yep. Conflict between the Dragonstorm scientists and our heroes is coming up soon!)

Shelton filled Dr. Joe in on the situation. "So Zanasiu & co. are currently reinforcing Victor in Dr. Kerzach's lab," he finished.

Vic turned around as he listened. Could those be more of the Dragonstorm scientists? he thought. But the sight of the axe the Dhole found sparked an idea for opening the metal door. Putting his gun across his back, examines a security console on the door. Every door here needs security clearance, but most of the doors were either jammed open or shut when the place was being ripped apart by the attacks. This one, however, still works...and he might be able to open it! "Hey Zachary," he said finally. "Can you pop this top open with the axe?"

"Then they must have found more survivors," Dr. Joe contemplated. "Shelton, can you track any other movements throughout the base? Including the sublevels?"

"I've only got readings on the labs, hallways, and sublevels directly below and around this control room, which is about 40% of the entire complex," Shelton responded, expanding the map on his laptop screen and highlighting the area he had radar on. "Problem is that the bio-indicators are only reliable if a bunch of them are near each other, and hundreds of them have been destroyed in various explosions and such around the base. But I can safely say that I know of everything going on in this area."

"Will do." Zachary replied. He wedged the ax blade in the seam between the console top and the console and pried the console top off.

James chuckled. "Normally, I'd complain about lax security but it worked to our advantage. Well the Dhole bought us some food so want to have a snack? We can't do any work if we're hungry."

The four scientists passed by a hallway.

The Beagle stopped the group and motioned them to come back to the hallway. "Guys. Dr. Zanasiu's scent permeates this hallway. That Dhole was lying about him being dead. He's in there somewhere."

The Human grinned. "Good let's get those notes back."

They then headed down the hallway.

The Dhole heard footsteps and picked up the scent of four unfamiler beings. "Guys, a group of four is heading this way. I can't identify if they're friendly or hostile but we better be prepared."

James readied his shotgun. Anthony and the Dhole readied their rifles.

"Vic, see if you can open this door. We'll keep guard." the Dhole said.

"Come get some." James muttered.

While explaining the schematics to Joe, Shelton noticed movement near the edge of the radar. He contacted Zanasiu's.

"Hey, you guys are aware that a four-man team is headed your way?"

The response came back. "Yeah, we know."

"Then you might like to know that two of them look like they're planning on entering, and the other two are fanning out on both sides of the doorway. Once you incapacitate your attackers, there'll be a couple more waiting outside."

Shelton turned and grinned at Joe. "See? I come in handy once in a while."
