The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

She would be... as long as she keeps her father's favor; he is the source of her wealth. She will never really be independent in this set-up; she is either a part of the house of her father or her husband.

That is true, but since he has so many children, any "untoward behavior" will probably slip his notice. He's more concerned with his older, more important children then wondering what daughter 27 is doing, as long as she is not engaing in taboo and illicit conduct that would bring shame on the family, shje has more less a free hand..

That is true; her father would be concerned with running his estates and looking after his firstborn son more than daughter # 27.

Much in the way nobles ran things in the middle ages.. the poor and middle class were locked in service to thier lords.  If you were born porr, you stayed poor, and everyone of your descendents did to. thee was no upwards mobility..

I know, it was bad... but some minor mobility existed for those who became knights, or those who entered the church... at least, a bit...

Mostly the church, much of our knowledge of the ancient works comes from copies writtens by scribes and monks.. many kings could barely read and write.. most church people could..

They had to know how to read; how else could you tell what was in the Bible otherwise? I know that illiterate people had to depend on the Church to tell them what was in the Bible, but the Church itself had to know..

I was refering to kings, not the church. the church was very literate, by the standards of the time..

Oh. I see.

In this setting, all Dracon kings of civilized areas are literate, although many tribal chiefs are not.

Most females are illiterate, even many noble ones, although it is not at all uncommon for a female noble to learn how to read and write.

That is good to hear; she wouldn't be such a good mage if she couldn't read her spells!

True, although certain sorcerers in the Dracon lands cast magic by means of intuition and emotion, and don't need to learn how to read, although in practice, most learn how.

Emotions often lad to overcasting, that is putting too much power into spells..

True; a sorceress (for that is the emotionally-driven kind are among Dracons) has to be careful not too let out too much emotion, but cannot let out too little if her spells are to be effective.

Magic can often be used to disrupt the social order... I will have to consider the implications of that in the RP world.
