(OOC: I've said it before, and I'll say it again... let's try to make these posts longer, please. We've got 1 or 2 more new posters on the way, and giving them opportunities to respond and fleshing out the setting and characters is important; so let's try to improve our post length.)
"How do we know that Gerasia still isn't under one of your dark spells?!" one of the warriors shouted at Kuja, waving around a stone knife.
"Maybe she's under a geas from Asthia... or the Dark Master!" Another one added.
"We should kill him where he stands! It's bad enough that these furry invaders come into our lands!" A third warrior added, clutching his spear.
"Yes... I hear do all sorts of atrocious things, especially when it comes to matter of repro-" the first warrior exclaimed, only to be cut off...
"Enough!" The chief shouted. "We shall take my daughter and this... 'Kuja' to our shaman. He will determine who's under what spell, if any." Turning to Kuja, the chief told the Fauxen; "If you are telling the truth and have no hostile magics, you can say your piece. If you ARE guilty of using dark magics on my daughter, you're dead."
Back in Hekaga...
"Yes... Vaeri told me I had a son. I believed her, but... I never thought I'd actually meet the boy..."
Adykon realized that he might have said too much; it only took Rhiga a moment to put two and two together.
"Excuse me? Never thought you would see him? You told us you were going back with my mother to raise him! What are you up to?" Rhiga replied, suspicious.
"What I mean is... I had doubts that we would survive our journeys. You know as well as I do how many times we could have been killed! You know how often we fell under the influence of hostile magics, or were kidnapped, or were injured. Heck, you were taken from your wedding and trapped under a tower for over a month! YES, I had reason to doubt that things would turn out okay..." Adykon replied.
Thinking it over, Rhiga realized that he had a point. "Alright Adykon, I see what you're saying... that's right. There were times when I never thought I would ever see Marcus again..." as she spoke, she leaned in close to her fiance, who put his arm around her; "I can see why you'd feel like you would never see your son..."
Although what she said was true to an extent, it was not the reason why Adykon never thought he would ever see his son. Truthfully, he had planned on leaving Vaeri behind and never seeing her or their child... ever. Being a mercenary, Adykon was used to a life filled with adventure, excitement, and exotic locales. While he also admitted to enjoying exotic females as well, he quickly got bored of them and the locale he was in, especially if work opportunities dried up. As it was, the thought of staying put and committing to a cause other than himself and his personal ideas was repugnant to him just a few months ago...
There had been a change in Adykon, however. Recent events forced him to rethink his course in life. Given the suffering he saw and the personal losses he had experienced... such a life might not be what was best for him, or best for anyone.
