"The king will outfit you with whatever you need" the emissary replied. "That is, IF you truly are ready, willing, and able to defeat the dark master."

Adykon thought about what he needed. 'Well, some new armor would help, especially if it covers my snout and face. My head is exposed as it is..."

Are you saying that we are going to be confronting the Dark Master? Do you realize that is virtually a hopeless cause?' Minna replied "_
We've come this far" ilsa reminded her. "and we're still alive..
_
We're going to help. ' Margas said, coming up to them.. "We don't know all the details, now's no the tiome to panic minna.."

"He's NOT that powerful, girls." Vespion interjected. "He is indeed beyond the power of any single archmage in the Dracon lands, but he is not so far beyond the mightiest two or three of them. The top ten archmages could stop him in a straight-up match with little problem. Of course, he commands forces other than his own magic... and if he gets his way, he will be able to command forces almost as powerful as himself, plus his armies... the strength of which is unknown. The real danger is what he plans to do, not what he IS. And we...don't know what he plans to do, really... that's what makes him so dangerous."

Yes,  what makes him so dangerous is his unpredictability, rather than his powers' margas concured. "it will be dangerous, no question, but considering all you have gone though recently, is it THAT much worse?"

Kuja and Akio both nodded.

"We have seen his power firsthand.  He is indeed a powerful foe, but he is but a man."  Akio said, looking at them.

"And any man can fall."  Kuja concluded, seeming to stir with some pride

Eriol smiled kind of wickedly at the comments been made. - "The greater the man is, the greater is the sound that will make when he falls."

Arianne looked at him and sighed, she then looked at the others. - "We may make use of all the time we have to get extra things we may need... specially now that we are more sure that our enemy is not invincible."

Eriol took a look at his journal - "All these things are sure to be written here, I wonder the face our kids will have when they read about this, Arianne." - To that, he recieved the gentle smile of his wife.

(OOC: You must all be using "man" in pretty loose terms here. This is more than a man they face... more than human too.  :DD )

And with that, the party followed the emissary out of the palace of Tallon into a far greater one. The largest palace in all of Minbenthac, and the third largest one in the Dracon lands... the palace of the king. The palace stood on a hill near the center of Minbenthac, and was visible for a long way around.

Entering past the portcullis of the outer gates, the party saw a massive rectangular structure that gleamed in the sun... it was covered in gold, and was surrounded by an arboretum of trees, and a series of gardens beyond that. The palace itself was surrounded by a massive stone wall and four main gates. Each gate had two sets of doors and two portcullises, as well as powerful enchantments on both the gates and the walls. After passing through the gate, the party could see that they were walking on a very smooth white road, which led to the palace from inside of the walls. After 10 minutes of walking, the party reached the doors to the palace itself, on the south entrance.

The doors were made of a metal which Vespion later identified as Nevryl, which was a kind of magical gold that was as strong as steel, and could be easily enchanted to make it stronger still. The door had a huge dragon design on it, as did each of the other three doors to the palace. Stepping inside, the party found the interior to be made of marble and gold, and the sound of running water was heard. Walking a bit further in, it was soon evident that there was a marble fountain in the middle of the palace, under the roof, in the center of the structure. From there, Adykon could see eight paths to take from the core of the palace, each one leading to one of eight wings identified by their direction: North, Northeast, East, Southeast, South, Southwest, West, and Northwest.

"We go to the north wing" the emissary told the party, and off they went. Heading down the halls, Rhiga looked around and noticed a rather large number of extremely-well dressed Dracons... and she still only had her bottom on... no top. These were the nobles and high clerics and mages of the city. It was not that she minded performing in front of them dressed as she was, but going before all of them as part of a group that they pinned all of their hopes on... and the fact that she was pregnant...

"I think I'll sit this one out if we are sent to do anything" Rhiga told Marcus. She had suffered quite a bit in their last adventure...

The meeting hall was huge... massive. Even larger than the throne room; it alone took up half of the North wing! Inside, there were fifty doorways, each one with a pair of statues, one on either side of the door. Looking up, there were paintings of Dragons in the ceiling, and a soft carpet beneath their feet. The room itself was circular, with over a thousand soft seats surrounding a circular platform. More chairs were being brought in by the servants even as the crowd grew larger and larger...

This would be one heck of a meeting.

OCC: Maybe that is a way we can refer to males of any race too... anyways, I don't think any harm is been done :smile .

IC:
"I have been in enormous palaces before, but it will be impossible to make comparisons." - Arianne said in awe, but still disguising it in the diplomatic stare in her eyes, remembering her works as part of the diplomatic team in efforts to bring a more permanent peace in the homeland she and Eriol come from.

Eriol was looking at the vastly decorated halls and hallways of the palace, it is not common for someone like him to be in places like this one, at last, when they arrived to the meeting place, all what he said was - "Nice."

Adykon had been in palaces before... but nothing like this. It was quite overwhelming for a farm boy... from goats to gold... he sure lived a full life. And all these nobles... some of these females looked like they were wearing a whole jewelry store! And the noble males... that was another story. They looked grim on the whole. Many of them had come with elaborate weapons and gilded armor... and not all of it was just for show either. They had something to lose... they had a stake in the city and its government... the threat of losing their lands, their mansions, their vast rural plantations and mineral holdings... their private roads and extensive rent-bearing real estate... their lending operations and their shares in the bank of Minbenthac... and still more... they could lose it all if the Dark Master was not stopped.

On one hand, Adykon thought that this would be their comeuppance; they would finally know what insecurity really felt like, along with the rest of the population. The other though which entered Adykon's mind was that rich, desperate people are known to spend an awful lot of money on what they think will save them... and if he could be the one to do it...

Arianne was taking a close look to the people nearby, all nobles, from powerful families. She bows showing respect to some of the Dracons that saw her and decided to give their greeting. Her family was not near as powerful or rich that this king, but she has been on palaces of people similar wealth than this King, so she got familiarized sooner than maybe many members of the party.

Eriol, on the other hand, if he has been in palaces like this one, the circumstances of his life previous meeting his wife, wouldn't allow him to take a close look to how the richest members of a society live. Even after meeting Arianne, and after been hired by her family as a protector (far before they got married), this is the first time he really stopped for a second to take a close look at people that live in higher social status of this magnitude.

By this time, the room was getting quite full, and the servants had stopped bringing in new seats. Adykon could see a clear rank emerging in the crowds; the closer the nobles were to the platform, the more ostentatious that appearance became. Same thing with the priests and mages...

"They sure love to flaunt their gold..." Selturma whispered to Rex.

Speaking of which, Rhiga would have certainly considered... helping herself... to some of their jewelry if she hadn't been on the adventure, and if she hadn't met Marcus. Now, that would all have to stop... and Rhiga was happy it did. A rogue's life was not an easy one...

Still, her life had its perks...

"Hey...this carpet is REALLY soft!" Rhiga thought, feeling it with her sensitive feet.

Marcus paid his obligations to the high rannking nobles gathered in the room. ilsa nodded  to the other nobles, many of whom  looked tense and uneasy.. 'Minna said nothing, but glanced arund the king's chambers. it was rare that the king summoned all his nobles, if he did that meant the situation was dire..
-
Margas sat comfortably in a seat in the third row of chairs, marking his current  status. in a few weeks , as the husband of Ilsa, he would occupy a spot among the ranks of the super rich. For now, those thoughts would have to wait..

The party took its seats close to the front; they were guided there by the guards. Normally, someone like Rhiga wouldn't even DREAM of being able to get this close in... but the party was given this special honor...

"Is that the group that's supposed to save us?" a noble mumbled...

"Afraid so" came the reply. "That warrior guy looks good, though..." said another...

In the background, there was much chatter...

"...don't know what those black-cat things are..."

"... see that cleric?"

"... Nice tiotleglas on that female there..."

"... think they can really save..."

"... stop him? How can they..."

marcus took a seat next to Rhiga , feeling out of place is the sea of wealth and social status. marcus could see that both he and rhiga stood out, as members of the "lower" classes. "excuse me, Ilsa" He whispered as Ilsa came back. "Rhiga is in no condition to fight, given her pregnancy..
-
I know.. thee will have to be accomodations made for her..and her siblings' Ilsa replied..

The halls were loud; filled with the voices of nervous nobles, pensive priests, and milling mages. When it was announced that the king was about the enter the room, the whole hall fell silent. Totally silent. You could hear a pin being dropped it was so quiet.

The king entered the room dressed in gilded armor. He skipped the customary robes in favor of defensive measures. For all he knew, the Dark Master could be breaking through their anti-scrying wards and watching them now. Fortunately, this was not the case.

At the kIngs enterance the nobles began to stand in acknowledgement. Ilsa bowed  and marcus quickly did the same. Minna bowed and remasained quiet she was in a reflective mood "Your majesty! What can we do to confront the Drak Master?' Called a noble who was sitting behind marcus.

"Silence!" shouted an official. "You will not speak until the king grants you leave to speak!"

The king of Minbenthac climbed onto the platform and looked out a the crowd. They were attending his every syllable.

"Citizens of Minbenthac, we are faced with a dire peril. Dememoras,  the so-called 'Dark Master', has returned."

There was no small amount of noise generated from this announcement, as the crowd, once silent as the grave, began to make a great deal of chatter.

"Silence again!" the official shouted, this time, to no effect. "Be quiet! You will listen to his majesty! You will attend..."

This was going to be a long speech...

"LISTEN TO HIM!!" Adykon shouted, shocking the audience into silence. "Your highness, please continue."

Not quite sure what to make of the situation, the king continued...

"Thank you. The rumors of his return are totally justified. This is dark news indeed. What matters now is not so much what had happened as what we can do to fix the situation. We do not know the Dark Master's plans, nor do we know when he intends to strike. I have been informed by the high priest and mages that since he has announced his return, he wants us to know that he is back. I have also been told that we require a great warrior to stop him... the mythic 'Warrior of Destiny.' I believe that Adykon is warrior in question. Adykon, will you stand up, please?"

Adykon did so, and all eyes in the crowd were on him. Every noble was desperate to get a look at the one who was appointed savior; the one who would protect their lands from evil... or else inflict it. The legend of the Warrior of Destiny was well-known among the elites... he would be able to choose the path of their race...

Annette looked over at Adykon in awe for a moment as she said quietly.
"So he is the one of legend. The savior unlike any before, said to bring peace both to his land and his unseen followers."

Despite her reservations about interfering in such a troubling time she had to admit, the longer she was around her group of friends, her live had become far more interesting.

The king was caught off-guard by the comment of the human girl.

"The legends actually DO speak of another who was like Adykon... the one who stopped the Dark Master once before. But that warrior is long-dead... he died stopping Dememoras, or so I have been told. In any event, that was thousands of years ago..."

Margas gave Adykon a looking over. 'then you hold the fate of our world in your claws. The Dark Master will try to turn you to his side.. or kill you. Are you ready to face him, knowing all that is at stake? my lord' He turned to the king. "i think I speak for mamy here, when I ask for proof that Adykon  is the warrior  of legend.."
_
"We have no proof, save that Adykon has proven his leadership throughout our adventures' Ilsa replied., she was irked by Margas' tone "He fought Arcantas not once, but at least twice, and survived. if that is not the mark of a hero, what is?"
