The party quickly gathered its possessions and left the inn... and not a moment too soon; they needed to find a way out of the city and get back to Minbenthac.  Marcus and Rhiga still had to marry, Jake and the older younglings had to get home, and Adykon needed a place to plan how to stop Dememoras.

Akito walked over to Adykon.
"You're planning to go after the Dark One, right?"
He asked calmly...

Akio and Kuja walked beside the others, quietly thinking of their next move...

"I have to, Akito. Dememoras killed Vaeri... and he threatens everything I know. If he manages to become emperor, nowhere will be safe from him. I don't know what he is planning to do, or what powers he seeks to unleash... but we've stopped his plans twice before... we will have to stop him for good" replied the mercenary.

This was starting to get difficult... first, it was an evil mage... then a kidnapping... then a vampire... now, they were in a distant, hostile city. When would things get better? At least Adykon had the name "Dememoras." When he retured to Minbenthac, he would mention the name to the priests, the mages, the government, anyone and everyone who could be told... hopefully they'd be able to do something with that knowledge.

Akito nodded.
"I thought as much.  I will fight alongside you, then."
He said bravely...

Kuja and Akio stepped up to the two.
"We're afraid we can't let you do that..."
Kuja said calmly...

"What?! What are you talking about?" Adykon asked the two Fauxen. The Dracon thought: "Please don't tell me you are possessed by magic like Jake was, or are planning on turning on us like that snake Arcantas did!"

Vespion prepared a spell to detect hostile magics in the Fauxen, as Selturma backed off from Kuja and Akio, and towards Akito.

The duo laughed a little.
"Hardly.  What Kuja meant to say is that we're not going to let you go alone.  He's powerful, and you're going to need all the help you can get."
Akio said quickly...

"Oh. That's quite an improvement, then!" Adykon said with a smile and a laugh,  :lol

"Thank you for the help. You are right, of course... it will be a dangerous undertaking. Do you and the Fauxen think you have all of the weapons, armor, and clothing you need?"

Eriol and Arianne also approached to where Adykon is, and after both Panthers nodded to each other, then he said. - "Adykon, I must admit that our plans were to help rescue Rhiga before returning home. But now, after what happened, we want to stay here and help you defeat Dememoras. So, you can count with us!." - Eriol and Arianne's look showed much decision.

"We do want to see how all of this will end. We'll do it to prevent Dememoras from causing even more harm." - Arianne added.

"I thank all of you." Adykon gratefully told the rest of the party. "None of you are under any compulsion to be here, so from here on in, we are in this as comrades and brothers-in-arms, not just as a group of self-interested adventurers. I'll admit that times haven't been easy on us... they still aren't. No matter what we do, the situation keeps getting more and more out of control. So... thank you for all being here with me. I know what course I have to take, even if... even if it means that I too must die."

Adykon's words reflected a grim resolve. He knew what was at stake. It was much larger then himself... or any of them.

(OOC: Edit that post, metadude. It is out of order. I'm ignoring it until it is changed.)

Hekaga was an unjust city by any standards, even Dracon ones. Pleas for morality, equality, liberty, justice, and mercy all fell on deaf ears in this place. Power was what mattered and little else.

The name "Hekaga" was Draconic for "temple place"; Known for its many temples, its great tower, and its great mausoleum, and its legendary founding. Hekaga was founded by a tremendously powerful red dragon, who ruled over the region in which the present city is in and extorted a great amount of cash from its inhabitants. After his death, his many children began fighting each other over control of the city. Each of the potential successors worshiped a different deity, and each one who managed to gain control of the city used his wealth to build an appropriate temple (in hopes of gaining favor with the deity.) Eventually, Only one of the heirs survived the fight, and ruled over the city. After over-taxing the population, he was overthrown and killed in an uprising. The great Dracon hero who led the revolt died, but the Dragon's confiscated wealth was used to construct a grand mausoleum for him. In later years, a tower made of red sandstone was built by the most powerful archmage in the city, who still inhabits his tower today. A neighboring city, Charirinik (Draconic for "red sand") occupies the same general area (the two cities are contingeous except for the fact that Charirinik is outside of the Hekaga city walls and has no walls of its own), and is extremely poor. Major products include textiles, magical and religious items, and various foodstuffs farmed from the surrounding oasis.

The city's gates were all guarded by heavily armed soldiers on either end of the doors, and all papers had to be processed before heading in or out of the city. There were secret, illegal ways in and out of the city, but use of them was often quite expensive; in order to escape the first time, Rhiga had to spend the jewelry she had stolen from a palace, and that was just to crawl through a narrow tunnel. In many ways, Hekaga was more of a prison and less of a city...

...Except for the rich. If it was a cage for them, it was beyond a gilded one; more like a diamond-encrusted cage made of mithral that was the size of a city. The opulence was so great as to be over-the-top by human standards. Chryselephantine statues, marble palaces, lavish parties, exotic spices, valuable salt, and, truth be told... narcotics all played a part in the lifestyles of the rich. That last one caused many nobles to behave erratically. It was guessed that one in every three nobles had some serious addiction. All this added to the city's already great woes...

"Agreed. We must help them out." Adykon said, backing away from the party for a moment, looking down at the cold stone streets. He thought to himself: "I... loved that female. Vaeri... I cannot let your children starve." Had he married her, they would have been his stepchildren... HIS responsibility. Even though she was dead... Adykon still felt an obligation to her.

Rhiga looked around her city... to think she had grown up here... her flight from the city had set her free... she was reluctant to go at first, but after seeing how Dracons lived in other cities, she wondered why she didn't leave earlier.

Passing some Dracons on the streets, Vespion could smell a distinct, sweet oder... sklarshanin. It was a barbiturate with a name that meant "drug grass." Highly addictive and unhealthy. Many Dracons in good cities had drug problems; few dracon cities made these sort of things illegal, but their use was discouraged by the culture in the more functional cities. It was rumored that the drugs were sold by the city's government itself, a step that no other major Dracon urban area's administration would even consider.

Selturma looked at the rugs for sale in a marketplace the party was passing through. Although the quality of the goods was shoddy at best, the prices were extremely low, made with slave labor, obviously.

On the other side of the city, a red-skinned female with a white belly lay on a cushion in a garden. The grass were green, there was running water, and this female was very, very relaxed. Smoking her sklarshanain, she had a smile on her face which was wide enough to be a sort of a grimace, and although she was clearly enjoying herself physically, she was falling deeper into addiction mentally. If this was bad for her, she wasn't feeling it at the moment, as she curled her clawed toes in pleasure and had a glazed look on her eyes after taking another breathe of it.

Her brother was due back in the city at any time. He had gone away to some distant valley for who-knows-what... males and their quests... how silly of them. All she needed was right here. Of course, she had her husband, her slaves, her other staff, and her friends... they were just like her in her excesses... many noble females were.

"Mlasia! Are you in he-... never mind. I'll find another one of my wives." It was her husband, Sorian. Sometimes, he went to do things with his wives, besides enjoy them at home. For a noble in this depraved place, that was rare. He actually enjoyed their company, not just their bodies. Mlasia enjoyed her body too... to the point that she neglected all other things. Her search for sensual pleasure extended so far that it actually was harmful to the same body she sought to satisfy.

And it was like that with the city, too. It had fallen into this sad state when too much power had been vested in the nobles, and they were allowed to run ramapant. With no checks and balances, a call for a strong king emerged... and soon enough, one did... but he was even worse than the nobles had been, and instead of curbing the power of the rich, it was simply co-opted to fit the king's demands. The search for order had produced chaos among the poor and tyranny for all.

"this place doesn't seem like a good place to live.." he said as he raised his jacket sleeve over his mouth and nose because of the stench. Sasha couldn't stand the smell she looked like she was going to vomit. Jake took off his jacket and handed it to sasha, "this should help with the smell" he said as he place his hand over his mouth and nose.
