"I've got a chestplate for you" Aurescia told him, bringing out another piece of enchanted armor. She then turned around and returned a moment later with a black box. Opening it with a small golden key that was shaped like a dragon's head on both sides with ruby eyes on one side, emerald eyes on the other, she showed that the contents of the box were some enchanted jewelry for Arianne.

"Ohh, they look beautiful!." - Arianne said as her eyes began contemplating the jewels brought by Aurescia.

Eriol grabbed the chestplate and then he looked at the jewels. - "And they look useful for a change, not just stuff to make someone to look better." - He smiled as he said that.

Arianne looked back at him with a quick glance, she then looked back at Aurescia. - "They all look beautiful, but I know they cannot carry many enchantments, so I can guess I can choose better if I can get a description on each of these jewel's magical attributes, please?" - Arianne likes all of these jewels, and she'd love to have them all, but a brief description will prove useful nevertheless.

"Well... since the king's covering all of the costs, you can have them all." Aurescia told Arianne. "But... it would be helpful for you to know what each of them does. The armband gives you greater protection from physical attacks, although it only counts as if you are wearing a suit of leather armor over your body. The spell will keep attacks out, but will not affect anything too light to be harmful, like a handshake. The pearl ring protects against magic... but only to  a moderate extent. The necklace stores energy from the sun and other ambient sources, and can be used to boost your own magical powers, at least by... 25%, although continuous use of it will use up the charge in a few minutes. It takes about a day to charge. The other ring will increase your agility by a good deal, help you keep balance, and aid you in performing acrobatics or gymnastics."

Arianne looked yet again at the jewels after hearing Aurescia's explanations about them. - "All of these jewels are so pretty, I certainly cannot believe how useful they are. Thank you very much." - She bowed to the Dracon in sign of gratefulness.

"I am glad you like them Arianne..." - Eriol said - "But I bet those jewels will look better after you put them on." - The male Panther is still testing the armor parts, so he looked at Aurescia. - "I think that all of thse parts are more than enough."

"Excellent. You don't have to pay me now... or at all, really. I'll send the king a bill for the equipment. He has made it well-known that he is reimbursing any merchant, shopkeeper or peddler who gives you goods, and that if you buy anything, you will be reimbursed yourselves." The sorceress told the party. "Is there anything else you need?"

Eternion nearly gagged on some rations he was eating when he heard what Aurescia said. 'I say, he's footing the bill on everything we buy?'

Suddenly he felt like a child in a candy store, except the candy was an assortment of magical items. 'What do you have for an old fellow like myself?' He asked.

The king would probably regret his offer once Eternion was through.

Aurescia's eyes lit up at the prospect of a major sale. "We have a wide variety of items for people, young and old. If you wanted some potions to reverse or halt the aging process, or some potions to deal with any health problems you may have. We also have books of spells on sale. I'd offer you a good deal, but since it is being paid for by the king..."

A smile flashed across her fanged snout.

"...I'll let his majesty pay full price."

Eternion rubbed his hands together. 'Excellent, excellent.' He quite liked the idea of royalty paying the price for once. All his days of adventuring, and he barely had anything to show for it. With a chance like this, he might as well make the most of it.

'Potions that affect the aging process, I've never heard of such a thing. To be honest it sound rather... unethical.' Though he had to admit, these were the ethics that Almia had rubbed off on him... Eternion would probably loved to be young again, but to see the look on his companions face if she saw him trying to cheat death.

Though at the same time, he was involved in a task beyond anything he had ever done before. If he was to be at his best, like he once was, he would surely have to make some changes to his ideas of what was ethical.

After some time to think about it, he decided to go for it. Almia was no longer with him, and as much as he would have liked the idea, she wasn't present in any way or form to argue. Common sense overruled ethics, and common sense was telling him that he should be better prepared for saving the world. Almia would just have to wait for him a little longer.

'Alright,' he finally said. 'I'll take a look at these... potions of yours. Though, I would like to know what makes them... do what they do.'

'Also,' he continued, 'there is the issue with my sight. I'm blind in my left eye, you see... though I believe it is age related.' At the moment, Eternion was not wearing his crimson full plate. 'I also have some heavy armor that is a little encumbering on my old body. If you have anything that would make bearing such a load a little easier, it would be much appreciated.'

As for spell books, well... he certainly was no mage of any kind. Still, if the king was footing the bill...
Besides that, he had a funny feeling inside of him that he might need it at some point in the future. He hated those kinds of feelings.

'I'll take some spell books, too. I've seen first hand the power of magic, both good and bad. Might as well have a little more on our side.'

Arianne looked at Eternion with a gentle smile, and she giggled after seen him so happily choosing so many things from the store.

Eriol was busy trying the armor parts, they fit perfectly. - "It will take me a bit to get use to armor, it has many months since the last time I used one." - Eriol remembered the days he worked as Arianne's main Guard, some months before they married. He then saw her grabbing her new armor and putting them on now, but she had some troubles with that, so the husband went closer and helped her.

Aurescia looked at Eternion and told him that she would be right back. A few minutes later, she came out of the back room she had entered and brought a box with her, and a crystal key. Opening the box, she pulled out several vials, each one no larger than a shot glass.

"These are the potions in question. All of them will help to fight aging, but be warned, none of them will make you immortal, bring the dead back to life, or, in spite of your name, make you life eternal." Aurescia told him, with a smile. There was a green potion, a blue one, a gold one, and a red one.

"Most magics which affect age change things in one of two ways; by either changing the tissue of the body, or by bending time. The latter is... difficult... and risky... but is the more powerful way of going about it. Most anti-aging techniques simply reverse the cells to where they were in one's mid-20's, at least, for a Dracon. There ARE potions which can prevent aging altogether, but I don't have any of that mixed at the moment."

Aurescia took a deep breath before continuing.

"There ARE a few questions that all of this raises. Few creatures are meant to live forever... even fewer of those are truly immortal. As it is, I am neither able to grant immortality or eternity, and what happens after you die is beyond my control... but I CAN manipulate life in this manner. I will only go ahead with this if you tell me you wish to do so a second time, after I tell you what each of these four potions do."

She took the green vial in her hands, holding it carefully.

"This vial is the least powerful. It simply undoes any damage done by aging, such as loss of eyesight, or loss of bone density. There should be no matter with this one."

Aurescia set the green vial down, and picked up the blue one.

"This potion changes external appearances, but does not undo actual aging in most ways, an ancient who drinks this will look young, but will still suffer all of the problems they had before, from the inside."

Once again, she set the potion down, and picked up the golden vial.

"This potion halts the aging process entirely for a number of years. Different species react to it in different ways, but for Dracons, it prevents further aging for about 30 years."

Finally, she put down that vial and picked up the red potion.

"THIS one reverses aging entirely, save for the superficial aspects of it. NO ONE under the age of 50 should drink this, as it would make them too young to really do anything. At your age, it should be fine, however. All four potions must be consumed in order to have effect. If you agree to it, the potions are as good as yours... and the king will have a rather... large bill to pay. Roughly as much as buying a large house with furniture, silverware, and fancy rugs."

Meanwhile, at the palace...

"Have they purchased any towns yet?" the king asked his court mage, who was employing a scrying spell.

"No, but one of them is making a purchase as if it were buying a large house with furnishings..." the mage replied, adjusting his skin color from red to brown.

"That's fine... if its for a good cause..." the king said, weary. Lucky for him, he was one of the ten richest Dracons in existence... that, and he had the best sense of sarcasm of any of the ten.

Back at the store...

"There's also something else about these vials that you might want to see..." Aurescia told Eternion, letting the red vial drop to the floor. Instead of shattering, it bounced as if it had been made of rubber! Clearly, there was an enchantment on these vials, to prevent something as valuable as these potions from being lost in an accident. After bouncing it a few times, including once off of her tail, Aurescia caught the potion and put it back in the box, along with the other potions. She then locked the box and told Eternion to wait another minute.

After doing into the back room, the sound of books being moved was heard, including the sound of a big one falling and Aurescia roaring in pain and surprise. She then returned with six spellbooks on a cart, another potion placed on the cart, and a big bruise on her left center toe.

"Sorry for the wait... ow. Here are some books for you. They aren't the most powerful spells, and require some skill in magic to use. Still, even a low-level mage should be able to use these. If you cannot use magic at all, I would advise finding someone willing to teach you the basics first, and then use these spells. These books are known as the learner's codicies, and each books is called a codex. There are six subjects here, one per book. They are Pyromancy, Hydromancy, Geomancy, Aeromancy, Nature Magic, and Astral magic. Since you are not really skilled with magic to begin with, I would suggest starting with the four elements first, then the next two. Oh, and this is a simple strength potion" she told him, indicating the books and the brown liquid.

Mages of a certain power and intelligence often thought of themselves as gods, or at the very least, as powers in their own right who were accountable to no one but themselves. They often made deals with extraplanar beings and demons, and sometimes followed strange occult paths. Generally, the more powerful a mage, the more likely he would do something unethical or immoral at some point, even though the best mages often got over that phase.

Those mages who did not get over that would be left with an inflated ego and a desire to escape accountability for their actions. Eternal life was never enough for those mages... in spite of living for centuries or milennia, some wanted even more... which meant high-end magical research being used for selfish ends... treating living creatures as if they were raw materials for experiments or as resources to be fed into some depraved spell to break down their tissue and remake it in a manner that the mage wanted...

Aurescia had even heard of a creature that was half-man, half-bear, and half-pig... although three halves was 150% of a creature...

Ophion and Aurescia practiced magic responsibly because they knew of the consequences of practicing such enchantments irresponsibly. Of the two of them, Ophion acted out of principle, Aurescia acted out of the results... the ends were the same, the means were different. For her part, Aurescia used magic to enhance her appearance and health, and both she and her husband already drank much of that potion that halted aging... although they had to be VERY careful to keep it out of the hands of children, lest they end up with a 30 year old in a six-year old's body...

The female quickly took the plate and left without a word. As she walked down the hall, Jake could see her golden skin stand out from the gray stones of the hallway, and could hear her claws clacking against the polished floor. One had the sense that she was sad to do what she did, but that she had no other choice. Jake had seen many Dracon females, all of whom wore very little, but this was the first who seemed truly exposed and vulnerable.

Jake closed the door to the room and he sat down on a chair in his room. "hmmmm.....I wonder when the prince  will send me to go and eliminate the targets?" thought Jake to himself

The problem is, neither Jake nor the prince knew exactly where the targets were... the closest thing Jake had to knowing was that they were probably in Minbenthac by now... and that was it.

Meanwhile...

Dememoras finally ventured outside of his palace. By now, the three Dragons waiting outside had fallen asleep. All of them were larger than the Dark Master... even the female Dragon, smallest and weakest of them, was still many times his size, large though Dememoras was.

All this time, he had muffled his true voice. Even to his minions, he did not want to sound too intimidating... too threatening. It would not be productive. Dememoras had many different guises and forms... a shapeshifter, as it were. His true form... well... that was something he rarely took on...

Arise, Dragons. It is time for you to act!

His speech was terrible to hear, and it woke up the three dragons instantly. The sound was as if an erupting volcano were shouting.

After being shown the goods, and paying a good deal of attention, Eternion needed a moment to think about things.

'If you would give me but a moment,' he said. He took to a small corner of the shop, a nice quiet spot where he could still see the others, but secluded enough for him to think things over.

His name did add a bit of odd coincidence to the whole idea of reversing age. Truth be told, he wasn't looking to become young again. He had experienced that once already, and once was enough. Of course, the matter at hand was not him, but the very fate of the world... and as he had thought over so many times before, he would have to be ready.

There was hardly time to retrain. To become the same warrior he once was would take months, though the experiences adventuring had given him was not entirely lost.

Of course, this was still a once in a lifetime chance, quite literally in a sort of delicious irony. He licked his lips, the king was not going to like this... one bit.

He approached Aurescia at the cart. He gave a small nod. 'I'll take it all,' he said. 'Aging potions, spellbooks, strength potions... the lot. Oh, and throw in that cart of yours, too. That stuff looks a little heavy,' he continued with a grin.

'One question, though. You said I must consume all four potions... or may I consume only some of them if I so wished?'

" In the original way the potions were made, you COULD consume only one... but I would not have recommended it." Aurescia told him. "If you missed consuming one of them, the missing effects would have make it... odd for you. For example, if you consumed the potion which makes you look young, but doesn't actually make you that way on the inside, you would have seemed to be an unusually unhealthy young man... or if a child consumed one of the potions by accident... the effects would be horrible to imagine... it was safer to modify each potion so that all four need to be consumed. I cannot in good conscience put someone at risk with the goods I sell. "

Taking a breath again, she continued.

"If you need a container for all these... well... you can have the potions now, and I can get you a backpack for the books. I don't know how useful a cart will be on an adventure. If you MUST have the cart... his majesty will have to pay 15 gold pieces. A backpack will only cost 2 golds. I'll get it for you."

The Dracon sorceress walked to a table where she had a backpack for sale stored underneath it. She leaned over, lifting her tail up in the air as she did so, and picked it up, before she realized that Selturma, Eternion, and the panthers were also in the room... and she had inadvertently showed off more than just her tail.

"I really should have knelt down to pick it up." She thought. "I guess our dress code has some disadvantages after all." Fortunately, everyone there was mature enough not to make comments about her physique. She was a married female, after all.

Back in the palace...

"Did you see that your highness? I wonder what spells she uses to make it look like THAT!"

"She's hotter than most of my wives! And she's only wearing a piece of rope with two cloths on either end! Are you saving that on your crystal ball?"

"Already done, sire! I can even zoom in if you want. Scrying sure has its advantages!"

"I wonder if she ever gets comments about how large her posterior is..."

Back in the shop...

"This is hardly a unique offer, Eternion" Aurescia added. "There are many such stores in our city that offer this... although few people know of these potions, and the prices... are even higher there than here."

'I hardly worry of the price, considering who is paying,' he said with a chuckle. 'Never-the-less, I will take heed of your advice, and consume all four. You are after all, probably a little more experienced in such matters than I am.'

He wiped a brow, looking nervously at the potions as they were loaded into the backpack. 'Heh, I never thought I'd see the day when I would go and try cheating death. My wife would have killed me if she found at about this.'

Shortly after, there was a slight gust of wind that blew through the shop. Some odd assortments shook slightly, giving off a creepy melody of clatters and clinks. Eternion gazed around much more nervous than before. 'Could you pack that a little faster, please?'

If there was an afterlife, he was going to get a stern talking to when he finally got there.

"I'll put the potions in the case, and the case in the backpack, along with the strength potions and the books. You can drink the potions at any time. Just drink all four withing a few minutes of each other. You can drink them now, later, or whenever, it makes little difference. Now, is there anything else you would like? I'll be bust later" Aurescia told Eternion. "I have a feeling that the scrying wards on the shop were not powerful enough to keep out everyone who was watching... this happens sometimes...I'll need to upgrade the defenses... "

It wasn't the potions themselves that were bad, but there was potential for abuse involved. It was a good thing this sort of magic was not particularly widespread...

'Nay, this will do me well, for now. I thank you for this,' he said as he hoisted the pack strap around his shoulder.

He would find some time later to drink the potions, though in his mind he knew he was just trying to put off the idea of consuming them as long as he could. He still was quite nervous of what would happen to him once he did, but he had made his choice... and he was a Dracon that stood by his choices.

Much like how he was determined to stick with these others he had only just met, even if he knew so little about them. Such was the adventuring way, though... he would learn more about them soon enough, and them of him.
