Each piece of land was just large enough for the Dracon to stand on. As they left a previous piece of land, it descended into the water behind them, only for a new piece to emerge just as fast as the previous on had gone down. This was starting to get to Lucien, who could not believe the strangeness of this place.

"What sort of STUPID person designs a place like this?! What's the point?!"

Thacklos left Rhiga and Marcus to have some privacy on their own. He returned to Tallon's palace, and resumed his meditations as if nothing had happened. It was all par for the course for a healer such as himself. There were other things par for the course for him as well. In this case, it took the form of a female with green skin, blue eyes, and a top and bottom that matched her ochre-colored belly.

"Had to run out to take care of another case, love?"

"Yes, Mazun" he replied to the green-skinned female.

"Couldn't it have waited? You left me lying here, again. You told me you would make time for me tonight."

"We have time now, Maz. Come on, it's alright" He told her, taking her in his arms.

"No, not now."

"You said you wanted to-"

"Later. You spoiled the moment."

"It was an urgent case. If I hadn't have gone-"

"Every case is urgent these days. I'm not buying it."

"If I hadn't have been there-"

"You need to be there for me more!"

"Ahh... listen! You know that you are only one of my four-"

"Yes, I know. I KNOW!"

"I have to make time for all of you. If I took more time away from-"

"That makes them time you have with me worth more!"

"Stop cutting me off! Look, Mazun, you know I love you."

"You sure don't act like it."

"The other three don't complain!"

"Yeah, cause they have no spine! You told me that you loved my attitude, my will, the fact that I don't act like a little love puppet! You told me you liked that in a female."

"I do. I always have, and I always will. There are other things I like in a female too."

"Do you ever stop talking about yourself? 'I, I, I' You've been talking in those terms since we started this conversation. What about ME? Don't I have any rights? Don't I deserve your attention?!"

"You do. You most certainly do. I-...eh... things must be balanced, though. It would do no good if the time spent healing others was reduced just to help you. People live and die by my actions. Failure to act on my part could result in disaster. What I do is very important. I'm a major asset to Tallon." Thacklos responded.

"Hmmph. That's cause you were born with the fancy magic, and the talent and the healing hands... and the right body parts between the legs! What do I do? Hang around the palace all day, sleep in, and I'm expected to be all over you when you want me to be, and disappear when you don't want me."

"Now that isn't really fair, Maz."

"Isn't it? Don't all females in this palace come as ornaments, like fancy pieces of furniture? Really, look at me! What do I do? My whole purpose here is to be a wife to you! I'm worth much more than that! You told me that yourself! You said you thought males and female were worth the same!"

"They ARE worth the same. There's only so much I can do to make things better for you, however. I can't change the culture or the laws, nor can I make you into something you are not."

"What's THAT supposed to mean?"

"It means that even my magic cannot heal our society. I know it isn't right. You know it too. There are some things, which, if we tried to fight them, would crush us both. I really don't think you want that to happen, Maz."

"Well... that's true" Mazun replied, resigned. "I still love you, Thacklos. I always will. It's just so hard that we don't get to see each other enough."

"I know. It's hard on me too" he replied, hugging her, pressing her soft flesh against his own. He broke the embrace after a few seconds. "I cannot make any promises, but I will make time for you in two days, alright?"

Getting up, Mazun left to get something to eat. "I suppose I'll get back to my 'female duties.' Eating, sleeping, bathing, looking pretty, and being invisible when I'm not wanted."

"Maz, I-... we can do something now if you want. I can always put off the-"

She practically jumped into his arms.

"Really?!" Now her mood was very different. Unusually happy. She had the biggest eyes when she was like this.

"Sure. It isn't too late to catch a show, is it?" Thacklos didn't go out to these sort of things very much.

"My love, it's never too late in Minbenthac." She was right; shows of all sorts played almost all day in night.

"Well, let me get my shirt and some real pants, and we can go out, then" He told her; it was that he wore than just that single piece of cloth around himself, but he would make an exception for the only female that truly interested him, even if he didn't show it enough. The other wives? They were good for a fun time, but not good for having a relationship with someone whom he knew to be his equal, and unlike the others, she acted like it.

Marcus paused as he held Rhiga is his arms. " I should have my parents come over anbd help us with caring for the egg. You're in no condition to do so my love..' Marcus said to her. " is there anything you want.."

Rhiga looked up at him and spoke softly. "The only thing I want is for our child to live. Nothing else matters to me right now. Tell me the egg will live. I need to hear these words." She really was upset.

"Honestly, I don't know how to care for an egg, either." Rhiga replied. "My other three eggs were given up to the care of a temple the day I laid them, and honestly, I'm not sure what the father is supposed to do. I've never known the father of any of my eggs before. You are the first."

 Meanwhile
Margas, Ilsa , Minna and others continued on through the water world, as slowly, a portal became visible on the horizon.

"Alright. Another portal. Is this one gonna lead us into another element?" Lucien asked. They always came in four. Why four? Water was a chemical, not an element. Air could signify a lot of elements, especially oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. "Earth" was any number of elements and compounds, and fire was a reaction, not an element!

Probably' Margas said..  as the portal got closer with each step. "As for which element, lets just hope its not fire..  the heat would burn off our clothes.. "

Way to have your mind in the gutter my Lord" Ilsa snapped. "We need to pick up the pace,Malcia only gave us an hour.."

The Dracons went through the portal, and found themselves facing the exact same element! Only this water was...

"Freezing! We've stumbled into a realm of ice!" Lucien exclaimed, not at all used to the horrid cold.

this is no ordinary ice" Margas said his breath clearly visible. " the ice they were stepping on, was  impossibly blue, and so cold to the touch that it burned their claws. minna winced as she took a step, looking behind she saw she was leaving bloody clawprints in the snow. ' we need.. argh.. to get.. ah.. out of here..
 Ilsa said through gritted teeth..

It was painful indeed; "Oh! Gods! What IS this stuff? This isn't frozen water is it! Argh! You pieces of-"

It went on like that for some time. Cursing at the ice wasn't going to make crossing it less painful, nor was it going to get them across faster.

Meanwhile, back in Tallon's palace...

"So Eriol, Arianne. Do you think you are ready to face Dememoras's forces? This is a Dracon fight, and I cannot expect another race to be drafted into this war. I don't want to send you off, maybe to die, without your approval. If you don't want to be here, I don't have the power to force you. You HAVE come a long way, though." Adykon needed all the help he could get for the battles to come.

Arianne looked at Adykon and gave him a gentle smile. - "I know Eriol will not approve me to go and participate, due to my pregnancy, but it is still in a very early stage and I am sure I'll be useful somehow." - she waited for a moment as she looked at her husband, then returning her look to the leader of the party.

Eriol smiled at he saw that trying to convince her would be futile, but what he said was coming more from his own feelings than anything else. - "The price for us could be a big one, but what about the price if you fail?. I will not run away, I will never be able to forgive myself if we return home knowing that I could have been of help here. What is at stake here and now is bigger than all of us." - he then gave a confident smile. - "and it will not be my first time to see true darkness."

"Glad to hear that you are all still onboard. We need all the help we can get, and anyone who has had experience fighting this evil is even more appreciated. You've both done well so far. I'm sure you'll be of great help in the end." Extending his clawed hand out to shake Eriol's, Adykon continued "Thank you both very, very much. We're all in this together. We shall all stay in this together."

As Eriol and Adykon were shaking hands, Arianne placed her own hand over theirs. - "We will all get out of this mess alive."

"We will all make sure of that." - Eriol added, still having that confident smile. Maybe not fully what he may feel, but at least is re-assuring for Arianne and Adykon.

the group continued its slow progress. the ice was so cold that the blood dripping from their claws froze just seconds after falling from their feet. minna felt her feet starting to numb from the bitter cold.. "Just.. hang.. in there girls,.. there should.. be a portal somewhere nearby..' Margas said through clenched teeth.

And sure enough, it was there. Lucien shoved past the others just to get through sooner. He regretted that his race didn't wear more, especially footwear. It made a lot of sense right about now, though. He was now in the elemental realm of fire! Annette, who was wearing a lot more than the others, was able to adapt better. Her clothing was resistant to the elements, as mage's garments often were, due to the nature of their jobs.

Meanwhile...

"I wish I could guarantee success and survival. Still, we made it this far. Soon, the others will return and we can make our move. Also, I don't know what happened to Jake. He's in the god's hands. In time, we will be reunited with him, I am sure of that. Somehow, someday, somewhere. And hopefully, sometimes soon." All this talk about togetherness made him think about the lost one back in Hekaga.

"You'll see we'll manage to survive." - Eriol said.

"That's right, we must think possitively, but not forgetting about the facts." - Arianne added. - "We just need to finish making the plans as we all know our strenghts and weaknesses. We can make it so we can compliment each other, specially at the moment of the truth."

Eriol nodded at that comment. They will survive as long as everybody cooperates as a team. There is no other way.

Tallon's palace was a boring place that day. Minna and Ilsa were still away, and the party was stalled. Regardless, Adykon, Rex, Sasha, Selturma, Eriol, Arianne, the Fauxen, Eternion, and all others who had joined up were still happy to be there, despite the gathering danger.

Ilsa gestured and created a fresh top and loincloth for her as her old garments burned away. this place the polar opposite of the ice realm. the hot ground was hard on their cut-up claws and feet.   in front of them was a large chasm, filled with molten lava. Spanning the chasm was a thin spit of rock, which ran from one end to the other.  Minna looked back at her old clothes, which were turning to ash  on the ground. While Dracons wee used to hot desert temperatures, these temps were the hottest they had yet experienced.
