The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

"Psionics?" Farstriker asked "I do not think that trust one who can read and manipulate one's mind is such a good thing, as they can not be trusted with what they can do, but if we must find one of these Psionic users in order to find Aerta, then it must be done"

Ku'ux snorted once again "As much as I do not like the idea of mind readers and the sort, I must agree with the elf on the matter, we must find one of these mind readers if we are to find this female of yours" he told Adykon.

As Adykon had asked if all were ready, a voice called out "Wait!" it was Kayla who had ran from in town all the way to the palace after she had heard they were going to be heading off on an adventure and wanted to use this oppertunity to go with them, especially if they were to head past her own village she had come from.

"Ah yes... you... aren't Sasha." Rhiga got up and looked at Kayla. Another human girl.

"I get the feeling that you were sent here from the others who know us. Who are you, who sent you here, and what do you know of our quest?" Adykon guessed that this human had met either Jake, Sasha, Rex, or Violet, as these were to most likely candidates for sending her over to them. Toby, Eternion, and even Kravik and Sivar could have told her the same about Adykon, to a degree.

"Sorry" Kayla spoke, having just caught her breath again "I'm Kayla, I'm a friend of Selturma's" she begun before hearing him ask about how she knew about the quest "And, as for that last thing, I don't really know much, I just know you're heading out on a quest of some sort and would like to come along..."

That's when Farstriker decided to interupt as he looked over to the human "Isn't that just a little bit....bland? Wanting to go on a question without knowing what it contains or the dangers of it?"

Kayla wanted to say sonmething back, but she knew that Farstriker was right as well, starting to now think that she was starting look like a complete idiot in front of everyone else with what she had been saying "Well....yeah....but it's just that I don't want to have to head out on my own"

"Just where is it that you wish to head off to?" Farstriker asked back, starting to get curious on where Kayla was going with what she was saying.

"Back to my village, I want to settle some business there with...well...my father, but I don't want to have to do it alone either" Kayla replied back, shaking her head some as well.

Farstriker looked to Kayla for a moment, then over to Adykon, then back to the human once more "What can you do?"

"Not much you know, I can fight with a knife, well, a knife as well as hand to hand combat too, and I do have some pretty good balance as well...." Kayla begun to answer as Ku'ux interupted with a snort.

"I don't think that would be good enough with some creatures one can come across, especially if said creatures would be made of something such as stone" the minotaur told the human.

Kayla looked down a little bit by that point, realizing that Ku'ux was also right before hearing the minotaur speak again.

"However, that does not mean that one can not protect you from such creatures either" Ku'ux told her.

"I don't need protection...." Kayla replied back a bit more quietly, even though, again, she knew that Ku'ux was right that in that sense, someone would need to protect her more as a knife or hand to hand combat would not be useful against those sort of enemies.

"Unless your father is located on the way to our goal, we cannot yet take the time out to deal with him. However, if you join us, I will help you settle any problems you have" Adykon told Kayla, adding...

"We are on a quest to stop Dememoras, whom you might know as the Dark Master. To make a very long story short, he is an evil being with god-like powers that seeks to take over all of the Dracon lands, and this party intends to prevent that. To that end, we are seeking the aid of an archmage named Aerta, and to find her, we have to contact some psionics, and have them help us find her. Now, in the odd chance that your village is on the way to or from our goals, we can help you out a lot sooner than later."

"Oh" Kayla begun before hearing what Adykon had explained to her "I have a question, what are psionics?" she asked, not actually knowing herself.

"Mind readers, well, they can read minds and manipulate minds" Farstriker explained to Kayla in a nutshell.

"Ah, right, but the Dark Master you say?" Kayla remembered her father saying stuff about Dememaros, but nothing bad about him as she had then gone quiet for some time.

"Uh, Kayla?" Farstriker asked, curious on her silence "All is well with you?"

Kayla looked over to the elf "Sorry, I was just....remembering stuff is all" she paused for a moment as she didn't actually know, until now, that this party was also trying to stop Dememoras.

"So, what do you say, do you wish to join us on our little adventure?" Farstriker then asked Kayla next.

Kayla looked to Adykon "Well....only if he allows it, cause, well, I would like to help out in anyway I can, and the Dark Master.....I already hate him as it is and if you want to stop him, I would like to help out as well, if it's alright that is"

"Well, maybe if we get to raise our numbers a bit it could work in our favor." - Eriol said as he was leaning on a nearby wall. - "Kayla, I just hope your father will not give us problems like Arcantas did." - The least the party needs right now is to face someone powerful again as they all already have enough problems dealing with Dememoras.

But Eriol has not yet give an opinion about psionics, after all, he has too many things from his past that he'd like to keep for himself and that the party does not need to know.

"Well, if we are to come across him, I have a feeling that he will give us problems" Kayla replied back to Eriol.

"Like he said, that is still, something we do not need right now" Ku'ux snorted some as well as he folded his arms.

"Might I ask Kayla, what kind of problems would your father give us anyway? And why would he give us problems in the first place?" Farstriker then decided to ask the human girl.

"Okay, here's the thing, my father....he likes to deal in the dark arts, you know, dark magic and what have you, something I just can't stand myself....which is why I had to get away from him....he has the whole village under his control more or less" Kayla replied back with a small sigh as well "I know it's not your problem, and I don't want to have to make it your problem either, I just would like to deal with it myself at the very least...."

"I do not mean to interject, but if he deals in the dark arts, and has your village under his control, then something is indeed, very wrong there and something must be done about it.....but I'm afraid Kayla, that it must be done at a later date as this psionic, mind reader person must be found, it is top priority right now" Farstriker told Kayla back.

Kayla gave a nod back to the elf "Yes, I understand that, and I would still like to also help you guys out with your quest as well"

"Our main goal is to stop Dememoras, but before we do that, we have to save Aerta. I suppose you could say that our goal is to find a psionic in order to achieve that other goal, which... oh, never mind. I know where this guild is, so let us be off without any further delays. Jake and the others can meet up with us later, when we are done with this part."

A few minutes later, the party had left the palace was walking through the streets on Minbenthac, heading towards a wide boulevard, down a smooth, white stone street which had many important-looking buildings on either side of it. Some of these buildings were even 3 or 4 stories tall. Adykon had been here before, so he decided to give a little explanation to those who didn't know.

"This is the guild district, everyone. Some of you are familiar with mages and mercenaries, whose bases of operations are scattered all over the city. Well, not every worker's group is so divided; in fact, the major craft guilds and certain specialist mages have their headquarters her. See those taller buildings? That's where the guilds are headquartered, and in some cases, where they produce goods. Most of the structures here are shops, though, even if the workers in those shops are guild members or sell goods made by the guilds. See the end of the road? That black building is the psionics guild. That's where we need to go."

I'm not fond of psoinics, too often have they manipulated others for their own gain.. " ilsa said as they continued walking past the guilds " It is risky " Margas agreed, but what other option do we have?
- None that's what Minna replied " i have little patience for psonics myself, those i have meet have been largely full of themselves and hold their power over you, in a 'i can read your mind and thees nothing you can do about it' manner..
Most psionics are decent sorts, like other mages excluding those in the dark arts of course" margas said 'My father long claimed that we had psionics in the family, apparently my great-grandmother practiced it, but that may be just family legend..'

Farstriker looked over at where Adykon had motioned to as he ran his fingers through his hair "So, you have a psionic guild here?"

"It seems like it" Ku'ux snorted again as he stepped forward some towards the building.

"Whoa, hold up there big guy" Farstriker spoke up again as he looked to Adykon again, however, he also noticed that Kayla was still follwing them "I take it that you still want to come with us?"

Kayla nodded back "Yeah, I've already made up my mind on the matter" she told the elf "I just need a weapon is all, preferably a knife, or a short sword of some sort, you know, one that's not really long or anything like that"

"We just need to get them to tell us what we need to know about where Aerta is. No one is talking about having our minds read." Vespion didn't like psionics much either, but he had to admit they had their uses. The ability to reach out to a mind on the astral plane and make contact with it made for unparalleled communication.

For this form of communicating, distance mattered very little, even across dimensional boundaries. If Aerta were scanning the Astral Plane, they would find her and be able to talk to her.

"Psoinics charge fees for doing that sort of thing, their services will not come cheap " Margas said , looking around at the surrounding shops.. he would have to remind himself to buy some gods from these stores later, a freshly polished breastplate of armor caught its eye it was inladen with pearl and mithril, and looked very expensive. Of course, given Margas' newfound wealth, price was not an issue..
_ So once we find out where Aerta is, we'll head there.. and um who's paying for it? Minna asked. " We'll send the king the bill, hes got enough wealth to absorb all our expenses and then some.." ilsa smirked as they approached the enterance to the psionics guild. As they walked up a large dracon wearing a blood-red robe came up toi them " What is your business here?' he asked. it was not a harsh tone, but neither was it friendly..

Farstriker gave a nod to Kayla "Very well then" he then looked over to Adykon "So, you still have no clue on who this psionic is that is able to help us find Aerta?"

Ku'ux took a few steps towards the place before stopping, looking back to the others who were still conversing on the matter "Does it matter elf? We should just go in there and ask around instead of just standing around and talking about it" he told Farstriker in particular before he walked off ahead again, heading towards the guild still.

"If you are truly a psionic, you will know what our business here is." Vespion replied with a smirk. "You can tell why we have come, right?"

Reading minds against one's will was generally frowned upon amongst the Dracons, but the laws of Minbenthac stated that inside a psionic's guild, the mages who wielded the mental magic were allowed to practice it in any way they wished, so long as it did no one any harm.

"I take it that you already have forgotten than these psionics can read minds" Farstriker told Ku'ux as he caught up to him "So really, we need not ask around, the psionic would simply have to read our minds and approach us on the matter"

"True, however, what if said psionic decides not to approach us about it?" Ku'ux decided to ask back.

Farstriker was about to say something, but then went into a thinking kind of mode, his hand on his chin and after a few seconds, he spoke "Yes, that is also true, so really, I guess we'll just have to wait and see on that matter, it does seem a little confusing, since we have no clue if the psionic will actually approach us or not, we just have to play it by ear"

So you are looking for the archmage Aerta?' the psonic replied.. ' You are asking much, the Dark One can easily enter a mind trying to communicate on the astral plain.. yet I sense she is approaching her limits.. she has been under siege by him for sometime... come with me.. i will take you to the head of the order and see what he can do for you.." he motioned them to follow him inside the building which had a faintly forboding air about it..

The psionic guild was a strange sight indeed. The halls were made out of the same black stone that covered the exterior, though the floor was comprised of mundane gray stone, albeit stone that felt unusually warm underfoot. The air was heavy with incense, although it took Adykon a few minutes to realize that it was quiet.  Very quiet. Despite seeing dozens of mages, none of the party heard any of them speak.

Vespion was surprised by this eerie silence, but then he remembered what he had been told about the psionics in the great temple; that when one can communicate by sending thoughts to another's head, and even project images, music, and elaborate thoughts, speech loses its value. Save for what had been spoken to the party, there was not so much as a syllable uttered.

"Wow, it's about as dead as a graveyard in here" Farstriker commented once he was inside, shuddering a little bit at the quietness around them.

"It's got an errie feeling about it....kinda like what my father did to my village...." Kayla spoke up next as Farstriker looked to her.

"Sorry to hear that Kayla" the elf told her with a warming smile to her.

"Ah, don't worry about it so much, it's nothing to be concerned about" Kayla answered back.

Ku'ux entered the building as well, taking a look around himself, snorting again, already realizing why they were all so quiet "Mind readers...." was all he had said.

When you can speak with your mind, speaking normally, well isn't as important' Margas whispered very softly to Ilsa and Minna.. 'Do you have any experience with psonics Margas? Minna asked. " Well, as I said before,, my great grandmother supposedly was a psonic, she barely talked at all during the last thirty, forty years of her life, st .least that is what my grandfather said..  I'm not sure how much I believe it.."

The party was led down the hallway to a door large, black door. The psionic that had been guiding them stopped. Without making a sound, he telepathically commanded the door to open, using the password to unlock the spell that kept it shut. A minute later, the adventurers had passed through the door, and found themselves inside a larger chamber, filled with three meditating dracon psionics on either side of the rectangular room, males to the left, females to the right.

Adykon realized that this room was somewhat warmer than the hallway; he could feel the heat from the warm stones which covered the entirety of the floor. Sitting on a black throne was the head of the order. Covered in dusty red robes, this tired-looking Dracon nevertheless projected an air of power about him. He didn't even bother to speak, but let his mind do the talking.

<I know who you are and why you have come, Adykon. I also know that any services we provide are covered by the king. I regret to inform you that at this time, using our powers to find Aerta will be impossible.>
