The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Margas meanwhile looked intently as thjiis newcomer, He could sense that Typhon's powers were immense, but whether his intentions or pure of malicious, he could not tell. Perhaps, that is how Typhon wanted it.
_ Why are you here? Ilsa asked, frowning.  this Dracon was  an imposing figure, she thought, but right now we do not have much time to waste in idle chat...

He looked to Ilsa first.

"It is enough that you know that I have been watching you for some time, since you left the city of Minbenthac. Do I startle you? I thought so. You recognize the horns and tail, don't you? I suppose there is no point in hiding the truth or trying to dance around it. I am the last surviving son of Dememoras, although his descendants are countless. One of them stands before me."

Typhon gestured towards Vespion as he spoke, as the cleric's eyes widened.

"What are you talking about?! I'm not a-! "I'm no son of his!"

"True. You are not. His blood and yours are distant. I know that you are descended on both sides of your family from him, as are countless thousands upon thousands of other Dracons. I can sense it; his descendants have often had an aptitude for magic, in a most unusual, even unnatural way. Even after hundreds of generations, you still shine like a beacon."

Vespion thought back on Typhon's words. They struck a chord in him. Was he not an unusual cleric? A holy man who had an unusual aptitude for arcane magic as well as the divine? Normally, those two skills were very hard to learn, but both came easily to him! He had long known that something was odd about him, but not in a bad way. Such talent was thought to be a gift, a blessing, a trait that gave him not only the ability to help himself, but the obligation to help others as well. Was it all due to his descent? His bloodline? The fact that he was the offspring of the offspring of... a monster?!

"N-no... that cannot be! This-this is a trick!"

"And what if it isn't?" - Eriol asked Vespion. - "... will you allow that to change your beliefs?" - The Gaean Panther speaks with some experience, remembering the day he discovered he really has the Dha'ar blood running on his veins. - "I once let the truth to change me, and that made me do some things that cannot be forgiven."

"If this is correct, then th-that is hard to believe, I cannot understand how Dememoras had that much reach into our race." - Kelassa commented still freightened by this presence in front of them.

Herril is tempted to try his powers on Typhon, but even withouth trying he realized something. - "I cannot get the truth from you Typhon, your mind is well trained, I congratulate you. So I think we all would be happy to learn more about you and your reasons to be here, and why you reveal this information to Vespion now."

"No need. Allow me to show you."

And with that, Typhon projected his memories of relevant events of his past to the party. He had psionic powers, and knew how to use them, just as his father did. At first, Adykon and Vespion considered the possibility that these were false memories, illusions, tricks; just as Dememoras had cast a gigantic illusion of himself on the battlefield not so long ago.

But then, Vespion sensed no malice, no dark energy, and no evidence of deception. The cleric had been able to sense an illusion from Dememoras earlier, and he was far, far more powerful than the creature in front of them now. If Typhon was deceiving them in these memories, he would have to be even more powerful than his father, and that was close to impossible.

In the span of ten seconds, the party saw a huge variety of scenes, and yet, by magic, they comprehended them all. They saw Typhon in his father's palace. They saw his siblings, and they saw... the lost city?! It was not ruined, but it was clearly the place they had been to much earlier on, when the adventure was just starting! The only difference was that it wasn't lost. It was filled with people, at least as many as any major city at present, although not as many as the largest Dracon cities were. Still fewer than Minbenthac.

Then, the course of years passed, and the city decayed. Dememoras was slain, risen, and then he left the world through a portal into a realm of darkness. Not long thereafter, his city fell, but Typhon fled with his brethren. Dispersed throughout the world, the party quickly learned how he had lived among dozens of Dracon tribes and cities, and in time, grew in power and skill. His own offspring never outlived him, and he himself fathered a line second only to that of his own sire.

By the time the party had fully digested all of that information, mere moments had elapsed, and the adventuring party knew that Typhon grew to hate his father and all he stood for, but was waiting until just the right moment to act. That time was now.

"So, you're here to help us?" Minna said uneasily " well, your help will be greatly appreciated."
_
"You have lived for thousands of years Typhon. Is it your bloodline that is responsible for that?" Margas said.  Being virtually immortal had its benefits, if you ignored the fact that you outlived your own children and grandchildren.
- "This may be another stupid question " Ilsa said  "But why have you not fought Dememoras yourself? You're his son, you should be almost as powerful as he is."

Typhon let out a laugh that could have easily been mistaken for that of a fully-grown dragon.

"Almost as powerful? Of course not. My father had grown in might for centuries before I was hatched, and he has only gained more power when he left this world for millennia. I don't know exactly what he did to gain such power, even beyond death, although I have my suspicions. As to my lifespan, that is due to my father's side of the family, of course. I had no idea he would ever return for the longest time, and when he did return, there was no way for me to face him alone, and as you can probably guess, most Dracons wouldn't be inclined to trust one with my... "powerful" appearance."

That "powerful" appearance was that of a red-skinned Dracon; much larger than the average Dracon and possessed of wings and a scorpion-like stinger, Typhon was much like his father, although far smaller and dressed in a suit of black adamantine armor, nearly the equal in quality to Adykon's suit. The fact that he was alive also distinguished them. Dememoras was no longer strictly of the living; he hadn't registered a pulse in his veins since long before the royal lines of the eight great cities of the Dracons had been founded. How the tyrant was risen and continued to exist was a mystery, even to Typhon.

"What I want to know is, what does this mean for me?" Vespion asked, interjecting. He had just learned that he was *supposedly* a descendant of the greatest evil his land ever knew.

"Vespion, it isn't like you are unique in your heritage. While most of my siblings died by the time our city fell, they had already had children of their own, as did I. At least a few hundred of my nieces, nephews, and their descendants lived on in other Dracon cities, often taken there as slaves."

"Slaves?! Dememoras's line has slaves among it?" Now it was Adykon's turn to be surprised.

"I suppose I shouldn't have expected you to understand. When one has lived as long as I have, one has a different perspective on life. In this case, you two ought to know that my father was the God-king of his great city, now known only as the lost city. As you might know, history has recorded that Dememoras raised armies and attempted to conquer all of the Dracon lands, uniting them under his sole rule. If not for a hero of the past, a warrior by... it's been so long... the name of Saydan if I'm not mistaken. Well, if not for him, my father would have conquered all of the Dracon lands. By the time he had been risen, three years later, his armies were defeated and the opposing armies had not only driven our armies back, but they were closing in on our city."

"I still don't see what this has to do with slavery"

"Well, I think you do, Adykon. As you are well aware, when a city falls in these lands, more than just gold and silver is plundered. Dememoras had come so close to conquering it all. So close. It was decided that his kingdom could never again be allowed to be a threat. Never again. Everyone who was not killed in the attack on my city was taken as a slave, and that included many of my, and by extension, your relatives, Vespion. That's right. HIS relatives."

"Surely, not everyone of Dememoras' family was enslaved... or killed."

"Very true, Adykon. Some of his line escaped the city during the attack or else fled just before it fell. Others, such as myself, left the city willingly when Dememoras left this world. It was with the less developed tribes that I found solace for many years, and with them, many children. I have gone on to other things as well, but now is not the time to discuss such matters. We do have an archmage to rescue."

"How did you know about Aer-?!"Adykon was cut off before he could finish his sentence.

"I became aware of your party and the two mages when someone was tampering with the Lost city. One of them, a male, died when my father took back his statue, the one with an ancient god stuck in it. And in case you want to know, it was not he who put that son of Tiamat in that piece of stone, it was an entity even more ancient than the ones who created my father. Besides, Dememoras was not nearly powerful enough to trap a god in a statue, although he probably is now. Regardless, we need to form a plan to get that female out of there."

Dememoras had waited thousands of years to unlock the powers within that statue, and yet he did not dare to expose himself to the wider world at the time. He had sent Arcantas to perform the task for him, as the statue had to be opened under the influence of the right stars, which were only in a correct alignment every 1000 years, roughly. The fact that Arcantas failed horribly only served to delay the tyrant, given that he had seen many thousands of years, alive and dead.

Eriol looked at the newcomer. - "Who would say that the Dracon society and the Gaean one have similar attitudes in war?. Because after our last great war ended 18 years ago, I have seen how almost complete races fell into slavery."

After hearing Typhon's story, Kelassa sighed in relief. - "This is indeed quite the revelation, I still cannot believe the huge ammount of time you have been alive. But I am happy that you are here to help."

Herril placed a hand in Kelassa's shoulder, and then he replied to Typhon. - "Even if your coming will not turn the balance in our favor, it is indeed of help to defeat Dememoras, but I am worried about Dememoras wanting to release one of Tiamat's sons. I know some of the ritual that is needed to release that demon, but the stars are not in the correct position right now... but Dememoras is full of resources so we need to rescue Aerta now, time is against us." - Herril was correct, time is against the party, because with each minute that passes, then the closer Dememoras could be of reaching his ultimate goal.

(OOC: It was not Tiamat, but the spirit of one of her sons in that stone statue. Check the first 100 or so pages of the RP for more details.)

"We have no more time to talk about this, so here is what I intend to do. First, the rest of you shall provide a distraction, while I go into the palace and get Aerta out of there." Adykon turned to Herril. "Can you provide me with a link to your mind so you can tell me what the situation is outside?"

OOC: Oh yeah, I'll go to re-read the first 100 pages, just joking I edited my previous post :smile .

IC:
Eriol looked at Adykon. - "Well, the let's get this crazy plan in action... even though there is no plan so I wish Gaea could help us with the improvised distraction will make for you." - The gaean panther gave a sly smile as he turned to find the others and get ready.

Herril nodded to Adykon's request. - "Considered done Adykon, you'll be able to see what I see as well as you'll see with your own your eyes, and don't be worried, your brain will be able to handle the extra information and i'll be there to help too. So go rescue Aerta." - The Psyonoc Dracon looked at Kelassa. - "Please, try to be extra careful, the last thing I want is you getting hurt or worse... specially snce your powers could save any of our lives." - And then, the male Dracon gave her quite a fiendly smile that made her feel reassured. Now Herril and Kelassa were ready too.

"Alright. There's no more time to waste. Vespion? Is there anything you can do to cause a lot of noise? Or, make some kind of distraction? Anything to divert the attention of a couple thousand dracon soldiers?"

Vespion thought for a moment, then he gave a small smile.

"I think so. I'll need Minna and Ilsa to help, but I can do it."

Marcus cut in " Look girls, you do whatever it takes to distract them.. well almosast everything.. "
_
Nothing taboo, naturally' Margas said, giving his wife a glance "Just hear him out, we need you two to distract the enemy long enough for Adykon to get inside and get Aerta out"

"I need you two girls to create fires. Nothing big, but you will need to keep making fire after fire for a few minutes. I will use the fires as fuel for a pyrotechnics spell to distract the enemy, keeping the spells up for as long as it takes to get their attention. When we DO have their attention, Adykon will rush through to the palace, and try to get Aerta out. Until then, we shall have to hold the enemies off until he returns with her. Is that understood? Do you all approve of the plan?"

Oh thats different" Ilsa said " I thought you wanted us to go in as " eye candy" for lack of a better term, but this works out great. Pyrotechnics, we can do.  now, how long do you think we'll need to keep building the fires?'" Ilsa asked " as long as it takes to keep there attention.. "Minna said, bringing out her staff "When you are ready, Vespion, We'll start making the fires..."

"I just need each of you to generate some flame on the ground, about as much as you would find in a sizable campfire. Don't try to make a bonfire or anything big, but I need something to work with. Each casting of the pyrotechnics spell uses up an entire fire, so  I'll also need you to keep making fires to replace the one that is used up. Having two of you here makes it easier, as you can just alternate between lighting a new fire to replace the old one when it is exhausted."

Vespion's plan was to use a spell that had two versions. The first was that of a fireworks display, but the other one allowed for the use of a smokescreen, which he would use when the enemies attacked. But first, he would have to get their attention.

Alright" Minna said, pointing her staff at the ground 'Compendum flaminare! she said , her staff glowed and slowly flames began to spread on the ground " It was a fire spell, but one with slowly grew in intensity, the longer the flames remained.
Ilsa gestured and create another small fire ' we'll take turns every fifteen minutes or so " Minna said to Ilsa  "Is this enough fire, or do we need more? she asked, turning to Vespion.

"The spell only lasts for a moment per casting. This is why both of you are needed; you will have to recreate the flames every 15 or 20 seconds in order to keep the distraction going. If it is too much to take for long, we will have to only start with the pyrotechnics spell, and then try something else to get the enemy's attention."

Vespion was a bit worried about the whole matter, but it was not as if he had no other options.

Hmm, so this is going to be more difficlt.. instead of minutes the spells only last a few seconds.." Minna grumbled..' Well, we have no choice.. lets keep casting these spells..' Ilsa said, recreating a new fire as she said this. True to vespion's word, this fire lasted only fifteen seconds, before Ilsa created a new one..

"Alright. Each of you will have to keep it burning for a few moments, but make sure to keep casting and to alternate between each of you. I can only cast the spell on one fire at a time. Just tell me when you are ready and I shall cast it. Adykon, you'd better be ready to start running towards the palace as soon as the enemy are distracted. Wait... how would we know that they are-"

"I can tell you. All it takes is for me to fly up in the sky, and look down. When a large body of soldiers move your way, you will know for sure that it means they will be diverted."

Having him fly up into the air would definitely draw their attention" Margas said, as he watched the girls continually create new fires ' i can help, if they grow too tired" he said to Vespion.
_ Marcus watched as the fires quickly waxed and waned. He was sitting on a large rock, silently watching the two mages cast their spells.

Kelassa looked how Minna and Ilsa began cating the fire spells. - "I am also a Healer, and I can help replenish your energy resevres for you to keep casting your spells, so you just let me know and I'll help you keep up with your task." - the female Dracon healer stepped a bit closer to the mage, waiting for any signal.

In the mean time, Herril tried to contact Aerta again, it might not be possible to mantain a full contact with her if she still needs more time to recover, but at least he is trying to make contact so he can let her know when the attack will be ready. - "Adykon, I am trying to contact Aerta, so even if I cannot maintain a link with her, at least i'll try to let her know that we are ready."

Eriol was also looking at the mages, but he also looked at Adykon, who is surely ready to go get Aerta out of that tower. - "The sooner, the better." - The male Gaean said as he grabbed his crossbow with his right hand.
