The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

"Alright. We all know what we need to do. Most of us will have to fight, and I will have to run in to get Aerta out." Adykon looked in the direction of the white stone palace in which Aerta lived.

"Alright. As soon as we have their attention, you have to run in, Adykon." Vespion steadied himself, looking down at the fires. He prepared his magic, aiming at Minna's fire first. Suddenly, beams of light emerged from his hands and came into contact with the flames, creating a loud, colorful display of fireworks! Moments later, he turned to Ilsa's fire, and did the same, before turning back to Minna, as soon as he noticed that her flame had also been replenished.

Typhon looked at the enemy armies, and in less than a minute, he saw a large number of soldiers heading for the party!

Adykon took off as fast as he could, hoping to escape the notice of Dememoras' warriors as he ran for the gates of the palace.

As the army of soldiers approached the party, all of it's members readied. Herril steped in front of Kelassa. - "Kelassa, I need you to stay near Minna and Ilsa, they may need some time to recharge their magic so you must help them." - To that, the female Dracon Healer nodded as she saw the incoming soldiers, doing her best to control herself. This is Kelassa's first real battle.

Eriol, on the contrary grinned as he saw the incoming enemies. - "It's about time." - He said as he aimed his crossobow as the nearest enemy Dracon. He knows this is a losing battle, but he also knows all that they need to do, it is withstand enough time for Adykon to get Aerta out of that tower.

Herril drawed his sword and frowned, not only he needs to fight, but he also needs to mantain his mental link with Adykon as he is also trying to reach Aerta. Too many things, but they have to be done.

Adykon scrambled to reach the palace, his clawed feet leaving marks all over the sandy ground. Within less than a minute, he had reached the gate. Still gasping from his sprint, he looked around for a way into the palace. The gate was obviously shut. Pushing against it did no good, so Adykon decided to see if Aerta was still in contact with the party, or if Herril could help.

<Herril? Can you hear my thoughts? You are linked with me, right? Can you put me through to Aerta?>

Herril, like the rest of the party, was waiting for the incoming battle when he heard Adykon. - "<Yes, Adykon, I can hear you, and I can see where you are. Give me a second as I am trying to reach her>" - In that moment, the Psyonic gave a breather as he closed his eyes. - "<Aerta, can you hear me? Adykon is in your castle, can you respond?>" - The Dracon was hoping Aerta would be able to respond, the fate of everybody depends on that.

<I can feel him... but h-he isn't actually inside yet. I have to open the gates for him. Hold on.>

Inside the palace, the female archmage struggled to relax the spell that held the gates firmly shut. Adykon, who had been pushing against the gates the whole time, was surprised to find that they suddenly gave way for a moment, allowing him to come inside, then slamming shut behind him as if moving of their own will, and locking again.

The effort clearly weakened Aerta. She had been using her magic to hold the enemy off for weeks.

<That is all I can directly help you with. Keep going inside. Yes, Adykon can detect my thoughts too, given how I'm broadcasting them. I'm no psionic, but being a mage of my level of astral skill has given me such power. I'll explain later. Adykon, you need to go past three more doors before you can reach the interior. I'll know when you have opened them and I'll come to meet you there, but you need to hurry!>

Eriol aimed at the closest enemy soldier between the many hundreds that are approaching the party. "If we can manage to make them attack us in fewer or more narrow groups we will have a chance, as I don't think they'll harm their own in order to kill us." - About having such a great army of soldiers going into an attack is that sometimes it gets hard to make the bulk of it to attack without putting in danger fellow warriors. If that happens here, then the party can stand a better chance and to buy Adykon a couple of extra minutes.

Herril smiled after hearing that Aerta can talk with Adykon as well. - "<Adykon, Aerta is right, you need to hurry. The battle has started and we also won't have much time.>" - the Psyonic readied his sword and took a battle stance. Kelassa remained near Ilsa and Minna, as she tried to get ready for anything.

"I'm sorry to tell you this, but what makes you think that my father's soldiers would NOT harm their own in trying to kill us? Dememoras is like a god to them! His orders carry divine weight in their minds, more than any king or general. When he wants something dead, the cost of carrying out that order could very well include the lives of the ones who carry it out!"

Meanwhile...

Adykon ran through the courtyard of the white palace, quickly finding a large white door underneath a covered pathway. Oddly enough, he could feel a sort of vibration under his feet. The pathway, which appeared to be made out of the same kind of stone as the palace, was permeated with magical energy. Perhaps it was the magic that sustained the force field that made it like that? But there would be time enough to answer that later.

Approaching the next door, Adykon looked for a way to open it. There was no handle and no keyhole, nor was the door giving way to his pushes. The warrior did see, however, that there were several circles in the stone wall to the left of the door, arranged in a 3 by 3 set of rows. Each stone had a number written in Draconic, plus there was an unmarked rectangular button. He pressed a few of them, but nothing happened, although he quickly figured out that the bottom button reset the others once pressed. Was this a code of some sort? If so, how many buttons needed to be pushed, which ones, and in what order? How many combinations were there in nine numbers? Far too many to go through them all, that was for sure, especially now!

<Herril? Can you sense my thoughts? Is Aerta still there? I'm stuck outside of the first door!>

Eriol didn't look back to the winged Dracon as he is busy looking at the incoming attackers, but he still laughed a bit before replying. - "A god? That guy Dememoras never ceases to amaze me." - After that sarcastic comment, Eriol can make a better idea of Dememoras' full influence over his soldiers... and that they will not hesitate to die in oder to please the demon.

Herril "heared" Adykon. - "<Yes, I can hear you Adykon, but contact with Aerta is getting more difficult... I'll contact her again.>" - One thing of having big experience is that Herril can still have isolated thoughts that others cannot hear. He is thinking that the mission could be a failure, but he has some hope that Adykon will be able to get Aerta in time so she would recover from using magic from such a ong time. - "<Aerta, can you hear me? it is me, Herril and Adykon needs your help. Can you reply my thoughts? Adykon will hear you too.>"

<788. The code is 788. Don't ask me again until you are at the next door. I-I cannot maintain contact very lon->

Aerta told Adykon what buttons he had to press, which is quickly did. The door unlocked with an audible humming noise, indicating the powering down of whatever magic had held it in place. He then ran into the first door, which promptly slammed shut behind him and relocked itself with a humming sound, moving as if it had a will of its own. This was due to the spell, no doubt.

Herril was also listening and seeing Adykon's situation, and he can hear Aerta. - "<I can mantain the contact for you Aerta, I can do that, you just focus on the shield and leave the mental links to me, that will free you from some of the strain your magic is causing you.>" - The Psyonic said mentally, but it is also not too easy to try to get pass the barrier made by a powerful Archmage as Aerta, specially since Adykon is getting deeper.

Eriol gave some steps back and stand near the Psyonic. - "It looks like our mental mage will be unable to give a proper fight until Adykon rescue the Damsel, so I will make my stand here." - As the Enemy soldiers were just in front of the group and began charging, the male Gaean Panther aimed his crossbow at the closest enemy, getting a direct impact between an enemy soldier's eyes. - "One less, a couple thousands to go." - he said with a smile.

Adykon came to a long hallway. Either side of the white-walled room had brown wooden doors on either side. After trying several of them, he found nothing but locked doors and the hum of the force-field. The room smelled oddly like fresh-cut grass. Perhaps it was a smell Aerta liked and had it magically present in the room. Whatever the reason, the warrior soon found the right direction; straight forward towards a bronze door.

It was not the door that led to Aerta, but the penultimate one. This one, however, had no visible handle, knob, or key. Nor was there a series of numbers to press.

<Does anyone know HOW to get this thing open?! Is it too much to ask for normal doors?!> Adykon's frustration was understandable.

Herril managed to dodge the attack of one of the incoming enemie soldiers by crouching just in time and to use the opportunity to make an attack himself, successfully burying his sword in between the pieces of armor of his enemy and causing him a lethal injury. - "<I know how you feel Adykon, but things are getting difficult here. Aerta, are you there? Adykon reached the penultimate door and he needs the clue to get inside.>" - The Psyonic is doing his best to mantain a stable menthal link while he tries to fight the enemy soldiers.

Eriol kept on fighting, doing his best to prevent the enmy soldiers from reaching Minna, Ilsa and Kelassa. - "It will be for the best if Adykon stops messing around and gets Aerta out of there!" - he exclaimed as he is no longer using his crossobow but only his two swords. The one on his left hand mainly as a defense and the one in his right hand to make quick counterattacks into the enemy soldier's weak areas. That way, he is trying to not use too much of his energy and to stay far longer in the battle without getting tired.

Mina and Ilsa continued creating fires, interspacing them with offensive spells to try and keep the enemy horde at bay. " Hurry up Adykon' Ilsa muttered, as Margas cas a large fireball ata soldier that tried to get too close to the girls.

Looking at the door again, Adykon noticed that there was no handle because it was a sliding door. He noticed that there was a small track on the floor which the door could be pushed by. Reaching to the left side of the door with his clawed hands, the warrior pushed the door to the right, and it started to move at first, but an unseen force pushed back against his every effort. Frustrated, Adykon moved to the left of the doorframe, and with a roar, pushed against the door with all his might, actually breaking whatever energy that was holding it in place!

Before he could savor his victory, Aerta contacted him again.

<That... wasn't supposed to happen. There was a password I was supposed to tell you, but you managed to break the force field around the door. That can only mean that the field is weakening in places!>

Sure enough, some soldiers of the besieging army were smashing their way through the field. At the moment, only one or two could get through at a time before the field sealed itself up again, although that was not going to last very long!

Adykon ran through the door and came to an opulent room. At this point, it was clear that he was inside the living quarters of the palace. His eyes beheld works of art and fancy vases, his feet trod on a long red rug, and his nose could detect the lingering scent of perfume.

"Aerta! Can you hear me?!" There was no reply.

Knowing that it was only a matter of time before the palace would be totally overwhelmed, Adykon had no other choice but to keep searching room after room, calling out the name of the one he was to save. Even at this desperate moment, he could not help but to admire the fine living quarters. Of course, it was bound to be looted and burned by the invading armies, a thought Adykon didn't relish one bit.

Eriol was fighting enemy soldiers, but there are too many of them and even the experienced fighter is beginning to get problems to hold them off. - "Come on Adykon..." - he muttered and then he shouted to Herril. - "What's taking so long!!!"

Herril stepped back as he did his best to fight off the incoming enemies. He did not reply to Eriol, but he was able to stabilize a bit his mental link with Adykon and Aerta. - "<Adykon, time is running out, both here and there as I sense the force field is losing strenght... please try to hurry>" - However, the Psyonic is having troubles trying to reach Aerta.

Adykon eventually came to a locked door made of mahogany wood. Thinking nothing of it, the warrior ran past the seemingly normal door when he heard Aerta's voice, not in his head, but with his own ears!

"Adykon! I've sealed this door from my side! Can you hear me?!"

"I'm here! I'm right on the other side of the wood door!" He knocked on the door several times, hoping to get a response from within. After a knock back, he knew that at long last, he was but a few inches away from his goal.

"Aerta! Can you get this door open? I'm here! Don't worry about-"

"Stand back!" No sooner than she had said this, the door began to grow very hot, and several magical runes, all of which had been invisible just moments ago, showed up on the door, glowing red. Adykon jumped back from the door, which exploded in a burst of flame and smoke. Aerta had placed protective runes on the door in case the enemies tried to storm the palace.

Stepping outside, Aerta ran over to Adykon, and gave him a quick hug. Neither of them had time for introductions.

"Alright, Aerta. Do you know the fastest way out of here? We can always go back the way came if-"

"Just follow me! No time!" She took off, down the halls, running faster than Adykon had expected her to. Then again, she was only wearing the standard females clothing the dracons wore, while he had a whole suit of heavy metal armor. It was easy enough for him to catch up, though.

Suddenly, Aerta began to slow down, and stumble. It wasn't a long run, but then again, she wasn't just trying to escape on foot; the archmage was also maintaining the force-field as she was fleeing the palace. Without a word, Adykon ran over to her, and offered to help her up. Surprisingly, she reached over to him, putting her right arm around his left, and put her left leg over his right arm. Within a moment, he was carrying her.

"I think this is best. I can keep the field up longer if I'm not using energy trying to run."

"Well, which way should I go?" This was not exactly what Adykon had envisioned when he had imagined meeting her again. Even as distracted as he was by all the violence and fighting, he still was able to appreciate her beauty.

"Start running down this hallway. Keep going straight and do not stop until you see a statue made of emerald. Oh, and the wall on the far side of the hall is an illusion, only maintained by a force field which emulates the solidity of the wall. I'll lower the field when you get near it." Adykon took off, running down the hall, his claws tearing the carpet in his mad dash. Even with Aerta in his arms, he was still quite fast.

Closing his eyes as he ran through the illusionary wall, the mercenary saw the emerald statute not more than 20 paces from the illusion.

"Alright, put me down here. The statue has a reserve of magic in it for me to use. If we're going to teleport out of here, we need this power." Adykon set Aerta down on her feet, somewhat unsteadily. She moved over to the green statue of a dragon and put her hands to it, absorbing more magic.

"How long will this take?"

"About a min-"

BOOM!!

The wall to the left of them exploded as three dracons from the enemy army appeared. Two of them were warriors, one was a mage.

The explosion was strong enough to be heard by the party. - "What the hell!" - Eriol shouted as he looked at the tower. But to look at it did not
made him to lose his track of the battle as he was able to block the atack of two enemy soldiers.

"I can feel three hostile Dracon minds inside Aerta's tower. The force field has weakened enough for some enemies to enter." - Herril said as he pulled back a bit from the battle, this time, he remained along side Minna, Ilsa and Kelassa so he can help them in the battle. - "<Aerta, Adykon, you need to get out of there now, the force field is collapsing and more enemies will get inside at any time.>" - The Psyonic warned them as he is now waiting for the best.

"Alright, which one of you wants to die first?!"

Adykon had already drawn his sword before either of the two warriors approached him, and soon, the battle was joined. Each of his opponents used an arming sword with a slight curve in the blade, and both wore a suit of steel plate armor, nowhere near as good as his. It became apparent that while Adykon was holding off the enemies, their goal was only to divert his attention and hold him off while the enemy mage prepared a spell.

The mage summoned an orb of bright blue light in his hands and aimed it at Adykon. What it was supposed to accomplish, Adykon would never know, as Typhon flew into the hallway and grabbed the mage, then took off right through the roof! After a tense moment in which neither of the enemies, nor Adykon, nor Aerta moved, the mage fell through the hole in the ceiling, and made a horrible mess as he splattered on the otherwise clean floor. The two enemy soldiers took off down the hall after that, afraid for their lives.

If he's found her.. tell her to teleport us out of here!' Margas said  parrying a thrust by an enemy soldier. "We cannot hold these guys off for very much longer.." Nearby Minna and Ilsa were locked in a desperate struggle  flinging magical spells against the horde.. While this was effective in the short term, the sheer numbers of the enemy would quickly crush them, if they did not get help from Aerta, and very soon...
