Cyrix now knowing the immediate danger picked up Longtail's other hatchling and looked around for a moment still not sure where or how they were going to find cover in the open beyond. It was only then that Cyrix noticed Luna and although he was hesitant to trust another fastbiter, he knew that if she had a place to keep the hatchlings and everyone else safe, he'd have to chance it. After all even if she was lying, chances were good that any other sharpteeth might be as far away as possible.
Pearl screeched in fear as she just barely dodged the first flying rock that fell out of the sky. She then could see Cyrix holding both her hatchlings and she was desperate to believe that he would keep them safe. But she also knew that she had to follow him to make sure that nothing happened to him. It was only then that she saw another flying rock sailing down right towards Cyrix, and he wouldn't ever see it coming. "CYRIX!!!" she cried hoping he would hear her over the sounds of panic from everyone else.
Longtail who was standing under Zaine heard Pearl's cry, and he hesitated for a second...and only a second as he pushed off the ground with his legs, and flapped his wings giving himself a boost of speed, just enough to be able to reach his uncle and push Cyrix out of the way. Longtail then looked up as he was now where the flying rock was going to land. For the first time in a long time, since he was a hatchling, Longtail felt the grip of mind numbing, paralyzing fear as the rock impacted the ground and covered his body in fire and threw him clear of the rest of the group.
Sweetie heard Zaine call out to her, and watched as Longtail seemed to sacrifice himself to save his Uncle and two hatchlings. She let a tear slid down her face and then followed Zaines instructions flapping over to him and holding onto one of his legs she then cried out, "Zaine! W-we need to seek shelter NOW!"
The moment Cyrix stopped rolling across the ground, he turned to see Longtail in his spot, and he could only watch as the flying rock meant for him crashed into the ground and obscured Longtail from his vision. His body was shaking from the fear of losing Longtail, but he stood up swiftly and turned to Luna as he asked, "Which way is your cave....please we have to hurry!" He felt a pang of regret having to leave Longtail to whatever fate had in store, but now wasn't the time to worry about guilt...survival was crucial at this point and he was going to ensure that Longtail's children lived.
Dil gasped in horror as she saw Longtail's actions and she picked up Greg and using her tail slid Icky onto her back as she looked over and followed Cyrix's example hoping that he would have an idea of where to go.
Diamond had been close enough to Luna to hear what she said, and he in turn began to spread the word. He flapped next to Zaine.
"That new fastbiter over there, closest to Cyrix might have a place for us to stay safe! Follow them!" he said with a twinge of fear in his voice.
Ruby looked over at Ducky and Renn and asked fearfully, "Where can we go, when there is no place to go!"
