At the watering hole, Matsu and the African spotted dogs waited for the lions to arrive...

Nala soon made it with the other lioness with her, "Any leads on the scent?" she asked.

The African spotted dogs bowed their heads as the lions approached.

"The scent is found, yet faint, along with the leopard's," one said. "We will trace it to where the panthers are said to have parted."

The canines and Matsu lead the way down the path.

The scent was tracked to where the two panthers split ways to escape Matsu, but this time Matsu had numbers on his side. "This is where they parted," the leopard explained.

"Who knows if one had decided to stop and hide to ambush you if you followed," the hunting pack's leader replied. "By now, they both returned to where they come from..."

"I have another scent," one of the spotted dogs called. "It trails after the panther that ran in the direction of the Elephant's Graveyard."

Shanzi rubbed her head as she sat up. "Great plan..." she said wryly. "Suck up to those panthers to get on their good side. Any more bright ideas in that empty skull of yours?"

Nala sighed, she'd forgotten about the Elephant Graveyard being a possibility, there had been so many added dangers since her cubhood days from Outlands to other such.

"Well in their defense, I don't think they snuck that far on their own" she commented, "but let's just focus on getting them home safe first".

Still unsure what the hyena's opinions of them, being lions and all, would be, Hali kept quiet still.

(I'll help with Banzai until we figure it out if you want)

"Hey, how'm I suppose to know how any of these stupid cats will react!" Banzai shot back, "besides, I talked them out of killing us didn't I...".

It hadn't been so much him, he knew, but he needed some credit right nwo to keep Shenzi's anger at bay so he grabbed at what he could.

"We shall trace the other path," the pack leader said. "The panther may have gone straight to where they gather."

"Sure they spared us..." Shanzi muttered, and sees the lion cubs. "Oh great, and we got some lion brats in here too..."

Hali huddled in more at the hyena's words, yet then stepped out a bit, "Um...excuse me...", it was a crazy idea but the only one she had, "I...I know you're probably not thrilled to be here with us but...maybe we could help that not happen...I mean...", she glanced back just to make sure Ramiki was still there so she'd feel better and be able to continue, "if we...sort of helped eachother maybe we could figure out some way out, and then you could go right back to forgetting we exist if you want" the cub finished.

Banzai scoffed, "Work. With lions, no thanks we tried it".

Hali frowned, "but what if it's the only way to get out...it could be worth trying, see if we could come up with some idea". Her bravery all through this and to say all this failed suddenly and she stepped back again.

Mother, they had to have gotten there on their own, unless the jaguars grabbed them and brought them there, which I doubt. No, if they caught them, they'd kill them a nnd be done with it, there'd be no one to tell of their intrusions" there was a coldness to his voice, a tone of anger. Why couldn't Vitani control those cubs? This would seriously complicate thier relationship, all those good feelings on thier date, were rapidly disspiating.. " she's not fit to be queen" he muttered.

"Honey, haven't you seen how many panthers are out there?" Shanzi replied. "All the other hyenas combined couldn't take them on in a fair fight. That's why the smart ones split when they had the chance."

The black lion stood on a high mountain of elephant bones to see the commotion in the Pride Lands. "We'll soon have company..." he said.

"Just some lions, mutts, and that traitorous leopard," a panther next to him inquired. "Surely, they've come for the brats. We'll dispatch of them quickly as they enter our domain..."

"Not yet. The Queen and the Prince are among them. I want the King as well. Wait until they come deeper into our realm...then spill all but the royal blood..."

"As you command..."

Nala was shocked at at least the anger present in Kopa's tone, not to mention what she thought she picked up on being muttered, but she couldn't be sure on that count.

If it wouldn't have paused a rescue mission, she'd have wheeled about to pause her son for a word or so, as it was she had to try while they still rushed on.

"Kopa..." she spoke not too loudly, and her voice held that firm disappointed quality of a mother's. She sighed, "Being King is more than just by rights...and I fear in terms of tolerance you have much to learn. I allowed a son to slip from my watch, much as it killed me every day since, I suppose I was an unfit queen as well".

Nala rushed on ahead of Kopa, "Not too fast when we get nearer" she called to the groups, "we don't want to give away our presence too quickly".

that was different" kopa replied "you were already queen, and not a potential one..as for letting a cub get away.. " he trailed off.. 'The Outsiders were responsible for that.. we don't know yet who is responsible for this one.. it may just be innocent curiosity on the part of the cubs..until we find out for sure, i withhold any further comment.." Kopa sighed. He was going to have to have a long talk with Nuteri after this was over..

Ramiki had just about given up hope to ever make out of this cave alive. He promised himself he would never leave the Pridelandss again. "In case I haven't said this enough. I am so sorry Hali for dragging you into this" Ramiki said.

Matsu followed Nala as the group is more aware that the cubs are the priority. The African painted dog hunt leader told two of his hunters to return to Pride Rock and inform the King of the news of what happened. The two canines turned back and ran towards Pride Rock while the main group followed the felines to the Elephant graveyard...

"Yeah, touching" Banzai said sarcastically, "but maybe the little fur ball's got a point, thinking through what we're gonna do when pulled out of this pit isn't such a bad idea". He paced, as if thinking it through already.

Vitani meanwhile had heard what Kopa had said about her not being able to be fit as queen. She looked angrily at Kopa how dare he say something like that."Well, don't you worry Kopa once we find the cubs I will take Ramiki and you will never have to see me again" Vitani said walking ahead of Kopa with a huff of anger.
