The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

No sooner than Halo had said that did the familiar teleportation effect happen, leaving the four of them in front of Ophion. Silverfang explained the situation to the mage...

"...so, let me get this straight" Adykon replied. "You're asking me to go down into the catacombs beneath our city to fight a group of dangerous mages for the twin purposes of keeping the city safe and of getting spoils of war from them?"

"Yes" Silverfang replied.

"I'll do it, if only to keep the city safe. I have a family to think about as well. I don't want dark wizards running around in the streets my children play in" came Ophion's reply.

"I'm not going to get used to this teleportation thing..." Youri muttered to Halo and Shiana, who shushed him quiet.

"Let's get some more aid, shall we?" Ophion asked Silverfang, who agreed. They teleported yet again back to the Order's hall. Luckily, teleportation wasn't dangerous, although it could be a bit disorienting at times.

The trio looked around as they were back in the guild.  "So," Halo said.  "Know of any lucky volunteers around here?"

"I'll check" Silverfang told the group. He was still wearing his "ancient elder" disguise, which commanded a level of respect from veteran mages. Unfortunately, few of them were particularly interested in this kind of a mission. After three hours spent searching the guild, they found a couple of red colored male wizards just experienced enough not to be called "hatchling" by the other Dracons, and a silver-skinned female who had showed up a few weeks ago with significant magical powers, but these were mostly latent, that is, they were there, but buried and mostly inaccessible to her conscious mind.

Youri looked at the new recruits from behind Halo and Shiana.  "I don't believe this..." he whispered.  "Even us non-magical creatures could probably fair better than them in a fight."

"Weren't we in a vary similar position when we started out?" Halo replied.

"Not me...  I am a construct, remember?"

"Just give them a chance," Shiana said.  "You never know when a good spell should come in hand."

"Fine..."

"It isn't much, but it's the best I could find" Silverfang replied. "It will have to do. We don't have a lot of time. Those mages won't be down there forever, and if we can't get them when they are together, I don't know if we can get them when they are scattered apart."

"They will have thought of that" Ophion replied.

"What?"

"It's a standard procedure for informal gatherings of mages, especially those who have enemies or are committing illegal activities. They know that their opponents will want to strike them when they are gathered, so they will probably have taken precautions."

"They'll set up early warning spells, traps, quick means of escape, and parhaps some guards, constructs or undead," Youri stated.

"Indeed they will." Ophion replied. "I'd say that whatever they will set up is probably going to be mobile, portable, and easy to setup and take apart. Nothing too sophisticated.

"Ok then," Halo said.  "Then I guess we're ready to catch some evil mages."

"We are as ready as we're going to get" Silverfang told Halo. "Normally, I wouldn't attack like this, but we have to go with the forces we have, not the forces we wish we have, but don't."

"It just makes the adventure all the more challenging," Halo replied, "but rewarding."

Youri rolled his illuminescent green eyes...

----------

Meanwhile, from the skies above the city, a large form came for a landing on a roof nearly two blocks from the guild build.  The creature had the body and head of a German Shepherd dog, but with a pair of feathered wings instead of forepaws and his body color of brilliant red, green, & blue hues.  His pupil-less sky blue eyes scanned the area for someone he had traveled hundreds of miles to find...

"We should move now" Silverfang told them. "The catacomb entrances are scattered throughout the city, but the closest one to us is not very far. We need to go into a poor neighborhood to get there, so watch your step."

"Yeah I could use some help. Thanks Cassia," he said, finishing his breakfast.

He then winked at her. "Of course, I may be planning an expedition to get some exotic materials. You're welcome to come along and keep anything you find," he added

Cassia became unusually excited about this. Even if it was just a chance to be with one of her own kind, she would take it.

"Excellent! Lead the way. As soon as we are done here, I'd be glad to help you."

Torvin got into his wagon with the load of metals.

"So Torvin, I see you got a friend?" the draft animal said.

Cassia smiled at the draft animal. "What sort of a creature is it, Torvin? I haven't seen one of these before."

"I guess you find ghettos in every city where secret passages to dungeons and catacoubs exist," Youri remarked.

"Enough with the sarcasm and let's get going," Shiana responded.

----------

Finally catching scent of the person he's looking for, he lifted off towards the guild dome...

"We should find the entrance in the... wait.  I detect an unfamiliar creature. Something magical. We're being watched!"

Turning in the direction of the unusual beast, Silverfang saw what looked like a winged german shepherd in the dome of the guild hall!

The trio looked up as the creature came in for a landing next to them, and they were stunned.

"By the gods..." Shiana gasped.  "Storm Paw?!"

The beast landed calmly and bowed his head towards the group.  The half-elf ran to him and hugged him around his neck.

"How on earth did you find us?"

The senmurv (D&D:  Fiend Folio, if you're confused) could only speak Sylvan, but he could understand Common.  "I sensed you weren't coming home today," he said, "so I searched for you all."

"Silverfang, Ophion," Halo said.  "This is Storm Paw, one of our friends back home."
