A Crazy Idea

As many of you probably know, I am making a fanfiction about the original sharptooth. We all know him as a bloodthirsty monster in the film, who was supposed to be even worse, although about 10 minutes or so of the film was cut, much of which featured scenes that supposedly would have sent children screaming out of the movie theater.

I also know that the Don Bluth was very upset at the cuts. We are also very unlikely to ever see what the film's footage was, as it was probably destroyed. I've heard that it MIGHT be possible (on the TV Tropes page, which I take with a huge grain of salt) to even contact him on his site: http://www.donbluthanimation.com/index.php

I don't know what he intended for the original sharptooth to be, if the film that was released is the watered-down version of him, but if it is possible to ask, and to use that in the story, with permission... hmm. It might work. At least, as far as the characterization of him. So far, I have him on a slow descent into evil and madness, going far beyond the normal killing instincts of a predator. His fatal flaw in my fic: revenge. It will stalk him and hound him unto death. The only piece am I aware of that was cut from the film was something in a junior novelization that involves the tyrannosaurus "with drool everywhere."

The idea is tempting, I'll admit. A chance to maybe, just maybe make the character as he was originally intended to be. Of course, I would be ascribing names and motives to the tyrannosaurus that were probably not intended by the creator, so that has to be considered as well.

I hope this idea has at least some merit. Or, at the very least, to learn about what was cut, even if the footage itself is gone. If he is available, and at liberty to speak of such things.

The crux of the idea is that I just ask the man himself how he intended that character to be, and develop the story accordingly. That's really it.

Sounds to me like there was some really heavy violence in that portion of the animation that was cut... or it may depict blood... or a flattooth actually getting killed by the sharptooth(The kind of scene where we see the sharptooth bite down on the neck and you see the blood flowing...). It only makes sense, since a lot of underage kids would be trying to catch the flick in the theaters, and it had to be "politically correct".

But if you want to write a fanfic where this sharptooth is a really bloodthirsty murderer; and- assuming there are no really young kids who are members on here- you want all of us to read and comment, by all means!  

However, if you wanna portray him as a family male with a mate and children to look after, the kind of sharptooth who wouldn't kill without reason; or who would kill to feed his family; that's okay, too.  

I've written some LBT fanfics that also kind of deviate from the norm. In some of them, I may have even anthropomorphosized the characters too much, but I've not had any negative comments on them. Quite the contrary, some have even said that they are quite imaginative and interesting.  

I'm currently working on one that is a crossover with the original Knight Rider. Matter of fact, it's a sequel to two previous ones I've written; and there may be a fourth one on the way. I'll put up a link on here for anyone who wants to read it.
