The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

For me, the classics are culture.  Not only have I watched stuff from 80s & 90s, but I loved some of the stuff from even farther back.  The only few shows today I enjoy watching was Avatar: the Last Airbender (great story, great depth, good comedy), Krypto:  the Super Dog (I just like dogs, and it reminds me of Road Rovers), the Land Before Time series (obviously), the Simpsons (a still-living classic), and American Dragon:  Jake Long (it's funny, and I like dragons).

The main reasons I don't like the others is that it's not as intellectual in comedy, to me anyway.  The characters are simply too crazy to me.

I don't see how ANY of the cartoons of today are better than shows like Courage the Cowardly Dog and Ed Edd n Eddy.

I guess it's a matter of opinion then.  Those were my two most hated shows...mostly because of the lame humor.

To me most of the funniest shows on CN are the ones on the Adult Swim block.

Robot Chicken

Sealab 2021

Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Metalocolypse

Family Guy

Futurama

That wasn't  directed at you, I was speaking in general.

You say that Courage and Ed Edd n Eddy had lame humor yet you praise Fairly Odd Parents? How? Fairly Odd parents' humor was even WORSE than the Ed's and Courage. About 97% of FOP jokes were just the characters doing something stupid or some lame gag. The only FOP episode I really liked was the one where Timmy was turned into a dragon(that was the one with Wanda's old boyfriend).

Why do you hate the old shows so much? What do they do wrong that cartoons of today do right? What is so bad about them? I'm not understanding your side of this.

I personally find FOP to be a funny show. It's one of my fav nickshows, next to Spongebob.

I'm more of an Invader Zim guy actually. FOP had some good episodes but...well I already said why I didn't like it.

I'll admit, I did like FOP when I was a kid. But now it just doesn't look that good to me. I think Timmy is an absolute brat and at times is even loathable. Remember the episode where he wished to be popular and started treating his real friends like dirt? If he treated me like that, I would have swiped that hat right off his head and stuck it up  his where the sun don't shine. That kid seriously needed to be buried six ft under.

The kid who had a man crush on Timmy was pretty funny, I'll admit. Don't remember who it was though.

I personally think Invader Zim and Kablam! were the best Nicktoons. Action League Now! was so stupid it was awesome!

FOP is funny to me mostly because it tries to be funny and fails so miserably.  I'm pretty sure they do that intentionally to make it enjoyable for the older audiences.  Those other two shows you mentioned are really trying to be funny and someone actually thought they were funny on paper, but in reality it's just so lame.  Not lame enough to be funny, just lame enough to be lame.  Don't know if I'm making any sense here.

I like Invader Zim. Gir's my favorite character from that show. He was so adorable and funny to watch.

I don't think I could name a Gir moment that was my favorite. There was a lot of great Gir moments, such as when he became part of Zim's house and went to that drive-thru place, and when an episode ended with him at a dance club and he dancing disco or something.

A shame the show isn't on TV anymore although I think Nicktoons TV or whatever the station is called is bringing the show back for one month. I do have the station so I'll check to see if it's this month they're doing Invader Zim.

Theres going a be new Scooby Doo series this year called Mystery Incoporated. It apparently taken from the " Ghost are real" idea that the 90s movies put in. Frankly I'd like them tio give Scooby a Girlfriend for once..
as for modern shows, yeah, they're crap. fop  is annoying, spongebob isn't very funny anymore, and i can't remember the last time i saw a good cartoon on cartoon network..
Winner of these:

Since you mentioned Spongebob, it actually was a pretty clever show when it first began. The episodes were intresting and pretty imaginative, and Spongebob was actually not too bad of a character. Now it's just "let's make Spongebob and Patrick babble like idiots for half an hour". Real shame...

I'm not even going to start with FOP again. I've really had it with talking about that show.

I still watch Spongebob a lot lately. My sister Jana believes the show got funnier with the later seasons. She still likes the older episodes, but she feels they didn't put much effort into the humor, whereas the newer ones are a lot funnier, in her opinion. I like both the old seasons and the new ones.

I personally don't find Courage the Cowardly Dog funny, hardly at all. But this isn't because I don't like the show; I do like it. But I never thought it was a comedy show; I always thought it was a more serious, creepy-type of show where "weird things happen in Nowhere".

Yeah I agree with you about it being more serious now that you mention it. I had watched some episodes last night and you're right. But it does have some funny moments although it is more of a horror show for kids than it is a comedy. Still this show is awesome and I was lucky enough to get a Courage T-shirt!

By the way, have you ever seen the Weremole episode? God, that scared me as a kid!

Oh, it's the one where Muriel was bitten by a mole and turned into a werewolf kind of creature.

And I gotta say, I absolutely LOVED the episode where Courage befriended the Hunchback that came to Nowhere instead of being scared of him. I loved the teeny little bells they were playing. Also, Courage makes up my perspective of a VERY good heroic character :)

I remember that episode. It was really sad and had a good message behind it. I loved how sympathetic the hunchback was and it was nice seeing karma come back to bite Eustace in the ass! That was great!

I remember that,Eustace's "Ow" scream was always hilarious, memories, I always loved the more emotional episodes.

Ed,Edd n' Eddy was another old favorite of mine.
