Out of time and place

"I didn't go looking for them," Deimos replied just before he exited the cave.

James rinsed the pots with the remainder of their water. "Frank may be right. I mean why else would we be pulled out of our own time into the past with dinosaurian allies?"

He then looked at the empty canteens. "Erm, could you light a fire so I can boil some water?"

He then grabbed the canteens marked with an "X" on them and headed to the lake.

Meanwhile, an Egg-Stealer was helping himself to a nest full of unguarded eggs in the lake.

Deimos was fishing when he detected the odor of fresh meat. He crept up on the Egg- Stealer and prepared to pounce. Suddenly, the Egg-Stealer yelped and dropped the egg he was holding and bolted.

James was filling the canteens when he heard Deimos chasing another dinosaur. He paid it no heed, keeping in mind that Deimos was a predator.

The Egg-Stealer was fast but Deimos had way more endurance. He finally pinned the Egg-Stealer outside the cave the others were resting out.

"Someone help me!" the Egg-Stealer screamed in English/Leafeater.

"You hear that?" Cleve asked, "Someone screamed. Grab those rifles. Someone is in trouble."

Cleve dashed in the direction of the scream, grabbing a rifle before he exited the cave.

Frank grabbed his rifle and followed cleve out of the cave. frank aimed the rifle at the dinosaur deimos pinned. "Who are you?" frank asked.

"I wonder who that is, another dinosaur I'd guess." Dan said standing up. He thought of going, but decided to remain behind go guard the camp, unless more help was needed.

As he waited for the others to return he started to walk around the peripheral of the camp to see if any additional help was needed and to make sure no one else tried to sneak into the camp.

James finished filling up his canteens and bought them back to the cave. He decided to start boiling the water. Some tinder and a match quickly got the cooking fire started. He grabbed the now clean stewpot, placed it on the grate and poured the canteens of impure water in it and waited for it to boil.

"He was trying to eat me!" the Egg-Stealer shouted.

"Look, I eat meat," Deimos said coldly. "I don't have a choice. And since I don't exactly know you, you're fair game."

He then turned to Frank and Cleve. "Should I let him go?"

Cleve hesitated for a moment. The new dinosaur didn't seem to be a threat, and it spoke English. Cleve wasn't exactly comfortable with someone eating a language-speaking animal, but he didn't want to deprive Deimos of his meal either.

Meanwhile, Chomper and Ruby ran forward to investigate. Chomper didn't hesitate.

"Don't do it," Chomper said, "We have plenty of things to eat."

Deimos looked at Chomper and then Cleve then the new dinosaur.

He got up and released the new dinosaur. Deimos did not look too happy about it.

"I'm going to get some crawlers," he said.

He then headed towards the lake. It was now nighttime and the air was starting to cool.

"Thanks for convincing him to let me go!" the Egg-Stealer. "The name's Theo."

He then did a double take as he saw Cleve. "You're not dinosaurs?"

James stuck his head out of the cave. "What's all the commotion about?"

Frank lowered the rifle. "We have a new commer here james." Frank said.

"What sort?" Dan asked curious. He went over to see what the newcomer looked like. "I wonder if we'll have more join us during our travel." Dan said wondering if they would or not.

Chomper stood perfectly still until Ruby tapped his shoulder and gave a smile. Chomper didn't mean to offend Deimos or deprive him of a meal, but Chomper didn't believe in having flattooth for food. Ruby smiled and tried to cheer him up.

Cleve did not know what to say either. He hated angering Deimos, a dinosaur who has saved his life. Cleve knew nothing about the customs in the dinosaur world. He learned that all dinosaurs were in the same order. I'm in the same order as all primates. Would I be comfortable eating another primate? Cleve thought to himself. He concluded that he wouldn't like it, but if we was desperate enough, he might be crazy enough to try. Still, he was in no place to judge Deimo's actions.

James came out and saw the Egg-Stealer. "This who you all talking about?" he asked, pointing to Theo.

"That's me," Theo said. "The name's Theo."

"Pleased to meet you!"

Deimos returned with four crawlers in hand. "I got food," he said hollowly. He ignored Theo and headed into the cave.

Chomper's eyes opened wide. He has never seen crawlers so big before. Chomper was hungry from the long walk, and his stomach was already making its hungry sound.

"Where'd you get those crawlers?" Chomper asked Deimos.

Cleve introduced himself to Theo. "Hi," Cleve said, "my name is Cleve. Pleased to meet you."

"So are you going to continue your story frank?" Littlefoot asked while walking up to Frank.

"Yeah I can continue it from where I left off." Frank said.

"Found them by the lake," Deimos replied to Chomper. He ate one crawler and handed the other to Chomper. "Want some?"

Deimos actually looked somewhat upset. He looked at Chomper; Chomper was able to restrain himself from eating Littlefoot and Ruby and Theo? Why couldn't he do the same? He sighed; if he wanted to keep everyone else - save James - around; he'd have to follow Chomper's lead.

Theo nodded and looked at Cleve and Dan. "Theo's my name."

His stomach growled. "Got any food? Being chased gives me quite an appetite!"

James nodded. "We've got fish and some fruit."

"Fine by me!"

"Do you have a preference?" Dan asked as he looked at Theo.

"Lots of green stuff and tree sweets to eat." Petrie said, not being a meat eater at all, of course.

"There are lots of options." Dan said, "More then likely we can think of ourselves."

Theo nodded. "I prefer fruit."

James got up and tossed some twigs into the fire. He then moved the water over to rock to cool so be could pour it into canteens.

"Now where was I when I last left off on my story?" Frank asked littlefoot.

"You had just started it." Littlefoot replied.

"Sure," Chomper yelped with joy. He almost forgot his sense of guilt when he deprived Deimos of his mean. Chomper grabbed a crawler and ate it.

"These Mysterious Beyond crawlers are juicy," he commented, "Ruby, mind if we go and get more?"

"If you're hungry," Ruby said, "it's my responsibility to make sure that you're not hungry. Let's go."

Chomper and Ruby ran off towards the lake.
