Artie cradled the child in her arms, smiling. "Well, I'm glad you're okay." She patted the kids head. "Don't worry, Pterano and I will protect you from the sharpteeth." Her smile grew wider when she felt the kid scoot closer to her chest, listening to her smooth heartbeat. "So what's your name?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Devon!" Pterano called.
"Pterano! Catch!" the blue flyer shouted as he passed the older flyer a vine. "Let's do this!"
Before Pterano could do anything, he remembered about Rinkus. He craned his head towards the pink flyer staring back at them in disbelief. "Rinkus! Run, get out of here!"
The pink flyer's shocked look turned into a confused, worried look. "We've got this! Just go and help Luke and Jared. They're gonna need you!" Pterano continued.
Rinkus just didn't know what to do. He didn't want to leave his old friend to the mean sharptooth. But he also didn't wanna leave Jared either. So he decided he should fallow Pterano's order for once and flew off.
Pterano and Devon smirked at eachother. "Let's do this!" Devon repeated as the red flyer nodded at him. Devon tossed his vine in the air. Pterano did the same. Devon's aiming for the legs and Pterano's aiming for the jaws.
The sharptooth jerked its jaw, pulling Pterano near its mouth. "Be careful, Pterano!" Devon shouted in worry.
Pterano, ignoring the blue flyer's call, used his feet to jump from the sharptooth's bottom jaw to fly to the top of its head, tying the vine around them tight.
Devon tied his vine around the sharptooth's leg as it looked down and saw him as a good meal. So it lowered its head and opened its jaws, despite the vines. Only to taste a certain pteranodon instead.
"Pterano!" Devon shouted as he tied his vines around both of the sharptooth's ankles, pulling them together so it won't go anywhere. "Let my friend go, you heartless bastard!" He pulled on the vine, causing the sharptooth to fall on its stomach, knocking it unconscious.
Devon took a couple breaths before racing up to the sharptooth's closed jaws. "Pterano?" He called worriedly. "Pterano?" Are you in there?"
He received no answer as the atmosphere remained silent around him. Assuming that the sharptooth had already swallowed his friend, tears of grief formed in his eyes. He turned around to face the setting sun, thinking his friend was in a better place now.
Until he heard a silent groan coming from behind him causing him to turn back to the unconscious sharptooth. And guess what he saw.
Its jaws opening...wide, until they revealed a certain red flyer holding them up with all of his strength. He smiled. "Pterano!"
Pterano jumped out of the sharptooth's jaws as Devon jumped into his arms right after. "Are you okay?" he asked the blue flyer, breaking their reunion hug.
"Am I okay? Am I okay? No. The question is, are you okay?"
"I'm okay. I'm okay..."Pterano groaned, holding his wing in pain. "I hope..."
"Oh my! Will you be able to fly?"
"I'll try. But probably not that far though." Pterano replied, still clutching his wings.
"Should we go tell the others we're okay?"
"Sure. Just don't fly too fast." Pterano replied, being the first to spread his wings. "I'm not as young as I used to be."
Devon smiled at the older flyer worriedly before spreading his wings. And they took off together.
