Pterano smiled back at his nephew, stroking his cheek lightly. "Thank you, Petrie...I love you..." the red pteranodon turned to the blue flyer beside him. "Devon, come closer..."
The blue cearadactylus leaned in close to his father and took him by the hand. "I'm here, Dad."
"Devon, I won't be here with you much longer."
"Pterano, don't you DARE say that! You're gonna make it! You will! You will!"
"I'm sorry Devon, but, I'm too sick to move on with my life. I'm very old, Devon. I've lived my life." Pterano spoke in a raspy voice.
"That's not true! You're not old! You proved it when you knocked down that sharptooth!" Devon protested, tears starting to form in his eyes as he continuedt to squeeze Pterano's hand.
Pterano sighed, rubbing his son's hand. "Devon, I need you to promise me something."
"Anything, Daddy."
Pterano smiled at his son. "Promise me you'll never forget me." Devon opened his mouth to protest but Pterano went on. "Remember the wisdom, protection and love that I gave you. Remember that, so you can do the same for your children. Find yourself a mate you can trust, and have yourself some beautiful children. Treat them with love and devotion as I had done with you. Remember what I taught you, Devon. And pass it on to your children so they can pass it on to their children and grandchildren. Promise me you'll do this."
Devon looked at him. "Of course, Dad."
Pterano smiled at his son for what seems like the last time, reaching up to touch his cheek. "Thank you, my son. I love you, Devon. I could'nt be more proud of you than I already am. Thank you...for being there for me...and being my son." Devon closed his eyes as tears fell freely down his face. He then felt Pterano's hand slip from his cheek and fall to the floor. He heard a quiet sigh coming from the old flyer. He opened his eyes to see his father, laying there, with his eyes closed.
Devon's eyes went wide open. "Oh my god! Dad?...Dad?..." his voice drifted off. For a second there, it seemed as though Pterano was dead. Luckily Pterano was still breathing, but his heartbeat was dangerously slow. So that didn't cease Devon's worrying. He burried his face into Pterano's chest, sobbing uncontrolly as he clutched to his arm, desperately wishin to be held by the old flyer...just one more time.
***Man that was sad...poor Devon...***
